Margaret, that little Vance kid just doesn’t get it. When asked about abortion rights he said, “I want us to make it easier for moms to afford to have babies.”
Are you shitting me with that nonsense?
Women might get an abortion for a lot of reasons. Some of them are wanted pregnancies gone horribly wrong. Some of them are unwanted pregnancies at a time when a women isn’t ready to become a mother. Some of them are because of rape, incest, abuse, ignorance, mistakes, and even just accidents. All of them are private. None of them are any of JD Vance’s business. You either trust women or you don’t.
Vance suggested that if we could just make having a family cheaper or more enjoyable, then women would be ok with abortion bans. Of course in the very next sentence he reminded us that we would be sending those children to schools with bullet proof windows and doors that resemble bank vaults. And any pre-existing conditions that child is born with won’t be covered under Trump’s new healthcare plan.
In response to the question about abortion bans, Vance also said “as a Republican who proudly wants to protect innocent life in this country, who proudly wants to protect the vulnerable, is that my party, we’ve got to do so much better of a job at earning the American people’s trust back on this issue where they, frankly, just don’t trust us.”
The man just doesn’t get it. He thinks we have sex and then order an abortion while the guy is ordering a pizza. It’s not that simple JD. It has nothing to do with our trust in Republican politicians. It has everything to do, however, with Republicans politicians not trusting women and doctors. Republicans don’t trust women to make the right decision for us. Look at the states with abortion bans and then tell me you don’t see red.
Thanks to Donal Trump women are driving all over God’s green earth just to get access to life saving healthcare. And Vance thinks if we would just trust him a little more, California and New York won’t be too far to drive. No thank you. I trust that Vance had it right the first time: when asked he said he would support a national abortion ban. I trust he meant that. And when asked if women should be punished, Trump said they should. I trust he meant that too.
If lying really really well makes you a good debater, then JD Vance is a master debater.
Vance, Trump and the GOP clearly don’t give a crap about the babies who are already here considering they love guns more than those babies. So please save us the insincere concern about the babies who aren’t here.
Vote Harris/Walz. I mean it. Really.
We sure miss your writing! Hope all is ok with you (other than the redtide drowning the country)
Sha

In addition the general consensus seems to be that everything has a price tag. Money is the solution to everything including a woman’s motherhood and ecology! No! The main problem/solution is changing attitudes. Changing people’s way of thinking.
Start by getting their brain slotted into the right position, unblocking their ears and positioning their eyes correctly in their sockets. Even then some people (like Vance) just won’t get it.
Don’t forget that J. D. was a military man. They become terribly institutionalised: picking up their tray in the canteen and clearing it when they’ve finished for someone else to wash up after them. All this whilst wifey is back home popping out children and looking after them!

[…] Margaret and Helen are here (Yay!), in time for JD Vance to assure everyone that the way to deal with abortion rights is to make it a non-issue by encouraging women to have babies, and getting them to trust Republicans to make that decision for them.Helen isn’t having it! […]

Really is right. Thank you for the reminders. People who ban abortions also approve death penalties, even if it isn’t proof positive that the alleged offender has committed a crime. I am so sick of the way our country is turning. And I am so concerned about my grandgirls. Thanks for the post. —- Holly Simpson

A Fulton County, Georgia, judge recently struck down Georgia’s six week abortion ban as unconstitutional.
Judge McBurney writes:
While the State’s interest in protecting “unborn” life is compelling, until that life can be sustained by the State — and not solely by the woman compelled by the Act to do the State’s work — the balance of rights favors the woman.
Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy, even taking into consideration whatever bundle of rights the not-yet-viable fetus may have.
For these women, the liberty of privacy means that they alone should choose whether they serve as human incubators for the five months leading up to viability. It is not for a legislator, a judge, or a Commander from The Handmaid’s Tale to tell these women what to do with their bodies during this period when the fetus cannot survive outside the womb any more so than society could — or should — force them to serve as a human tissue bank or to give up a kidney for the benefit of another.

Helen, You might be old (I am too) but you’re clearly not senile. It’s a shame Vance is able to “normalize” his running mate’s obvious frequent “brain farts” AND the fact that he clearly IS becoming senile. Some of my ancestors were senile in old age, some of them developed Brights Disease from the lead in the water pipes, many of them were women who bore children from age 15 until they died at 40. Who knows what der fuhrer’s (notice he is lower case fuhrer) life has exposed him to.
Sincerely,

I was forwarded the article from the NY Times by Emily Bazelon, etal: “If Trump wins, could he really use the Justice Department to jail his rivals?” from October 2nd. (To which I can only add: VOTE!!!) I was shocked by the stupidity of some of the online comments following the article. Maybe I shouldn’t be shocked…

Male, 72 years old. Resident of Indiana, Mississippi of the Midwest where Eric Holcomb our moderate gov, (well he at least does not act like an idiot like Pence and he was fairly OK during Covid and he does have a cool beard) signed the first post Dobbs abortion ban. Voted blue since 72. McGovern. I helped elect the president once, 2008, Obama. Thank Electoral College. First thing I will think of in the booth (even though it is worthless) I must save democracy, second, my wife and I are childless cat parents. Third and most important, I must do this in 2024 for all of my friends who have daughters and all of my female friends of reproductive age. I owe it to the women that are my friends. I have voted with more money donated than I ever have before. I have been married to my wife for 40 years. She could tell you that I don’t have a violent bone in my body. I have always believed in feminist causes. But this year it is time for men to put up or shut up. Either you believe in equality or you belong in the Republican Party. Just saying… PS, My wife was from Illinois. We should have moved over there when we got married. JB Pritzker is pretty cool. So is Kentucky Andy but the rest of his state is a bunch of DFKs (figure out what that stands for if the “K” is for Kentuckians) So abortion is legal there and the only reason that they can shoot each other in Chicago is because they come to Indiana for the guns (Build a wall!) And those 34 years I was a teacher, well I have a friend who taught Earth Science over there like I did here and on his retirement income he is driving a BMW convertible.

Don’t think that New York and California are safe, either, even right now. The hospital where I was born, St. Joseph’s in Eureka California is being sued by the state’s AG for failing to provide an emergency, life saving abortion to a woman pregnant with twins whose water broke prematurely. They are a Catholic hospital and as such would not provide an abortion even to save the woman’s life. They gave her a bucket of towels for the bleeding and suggested she take a helicopter to San Francisco because an ambulance would take too long and she might die.

And yet he didn’t not vote for child tax credit to help lift children out of poverty. They are rabid pro birth not pro life. Their only desire right now is to win and have power over women and people of color.
