If only Trump had a brain, a heart or a shred of decency…

If Donald Trump were a decent human being, he would have put patriotism over party and allowed this nation to heal. Instead, he has spent the last almost 4 years whining like a three-year-old. The man isn’t fit to hold office. Both candidates should step aside at this point and let the nation heal. But it is what it is. If these are our candidates, then let’s focus on their administrations and not their individual qualifications.

One is full of felons, con artists and idiots. The other is filled with civic-minded civil servants who are experts in their fields. One is filled with resignations, felony convictions, scandal and racist ideology. The other is filled with career experts representing a diverse cross section of the American people. One is a clown show. The other is a proverbial steady hand.

Which group should you trust to lead this nation? Only an idiot or a racist would choose the shit show that is about to play out in Milwaukee. If you want the truth about climate control, talk to a farmer, a fisherman or a scientist. Want the truth about abortion access, talk to a woman who wasn’t allowed to get one. Want the truth about immigration, invite an immigrant into your home. Want a bunch of lies, conspiracy theories and fear mongering, talk to almost anyone wearing a hat in downtown Milwaukee this coming week. The GOP has its collective head so far up its ass, they can see the backside of their tonsils.

Like him or hate him, we need a leader in the mold of Al Gore. More so than any other presidential candidate, that man had a legitimate gripe, but when the courts spoke, here is what he had to say:

“Good evening. Just moments ago I spoke with George W. Bush and congratulated him on becoming the 43rd president of the United States. And I promised him that I wouldn’t call him back this time.

I offered to meet with him as soon as possible so that we can start to heal the divisions of the campaign and the contest through which we’ve just passed.

Almost a century and a half ago, Senator Stephen Douglas told Abraham Lincoln, who had just defeated him for the presidency, ‘Partisan feeling must yield to patriotism. I’m with you, Mr. President, and God bless you.’

Well, in that same spirit, I say to President-elect Bush that what remains of partisan rancor must now be put aside, and may God bless his stewardship of this country. Neither he nor I anticipated this long and difficult road. Certainly neither of us wanted it to happen. Yet it came, and now it has ended, resolved, as it must be resolved, through the honored institutions of our democracy…”

Imagine if Donald Trump was capable of being that guy, instead of the asshat he is.

Politicians aren’t perfect, but anyone is better than Trump. Vote Biden. I mean it. Really.

Helen, of course you are 100% correct! We elders have a much better perspective because we’ve already seen some of those impossible to happen things, happen. Like I never thought a registered Republican would try to take out that toad. (No disrespect meant toward real toads, I like real toads!). People his age have heart attacks all the time. I was hoping for that. I know it’s not the Christian thing to say, but I’m no longer a ChrIstian. I’m more of a Realist. I look at Jim Jones’ Jonestown for an example of when this happened before. Jones too, wanted revenge against his enemies, used his followers. As I see it, what we have here is a simple binary choice. We can continue trudging along using the Constitution as our guide or we can fly off the handle and choose chaos. A problem is that younger people sometimes have trouble distinguishing between fantasy and reality. Guys, we’re not living in a video game! Vote Blue! Go Helen!

    Sincerely, MHRHSofyaEQ

What a fair and astute assessment contrasting the differences between 45 & 46. Also, what a genuine class act @ Al Gore putting his country first and foremost.

    Margaret and Helen ~

I am so glad to hear your voices at this time. We need many more people who “speak truth to power”. You have artfully described the bifurcated choice we have, but I fear that the MAGA base has bought into a cult that cares nothing about them. I will send your latest salvo around to friends and colleagues who will appreciate all you have done over the years – and hopefully into a long way into the future as well. We need this presidential election to produce a sane, ethical, strategic leader, not the narcissistic felon who is evading justice (should he win) and who doesn’t care about taking the country down with him. Thank you.

You are too kind. Trump is a narcissistic sociopath who plans, from Day 1, to be a dictator (he said it, not the “fake” news).

if anyone wants to see how that will unfold, read Project 2025: peaceful protests put down by the military, a national abortion ban (including the arrest of women), at least two more young Supreme Court appointments (the GQP will pay Thomas and Alito to resign), the AG and FBI to be personally loyal to Trump, the destruction of NATO at the behest of Putin, decreased taxes for corporations and the uber-wealthy, the demolishment of Medicaid and the ACA, the abolishment or privatization of Medicare and Social Security, culminating in the abolishment of the Constitution.

As always, I love your post! Now, please, could you use your platform to endorse President Biden? We need to be reminded (especially with the onslaught of misquotes and NYT twisted headlines and op-eds) that electing an American President is not simply about electing one person, especially if that person is an incumbent running for a second term. It is about electing an entire TEAM, and in this case a team that has achieved remarkable improvements in all aspects of the lives of every-day Americans. I will vote for JOE BIDEN if he’s sitting in the corner drooling and mumbling, because I have complete faith in his team (I also have complete faith in him). I am sickened every time I read that another “prominent Democrat” has called for Biden to drop out, and then I read that the “quote” is in fact a misquote. Meanwhile the vast majority of Democrats support Biden, but that doesn’t get covered. AND they don’t cover the evidence of Trump’s increasing dementia. Give me a break. Call me paranoid, but I cannot help but believe there is dark money behind this orchestrated chaos. Yes, Biden performed badly in the debate, and we know why. And yes, Trump performed like the lying bully that he is. America is now faced with a choice between fascism and democracy. Is democracy perfect? No, it is messy and difficult, but I will take that any day over what is outlined in Project 2025.
