Margaret, I love you. We will survive, but now it is up to the next generation. If we raised them right, they will find the good in people and this country will find a way forward.
It is my hope that my daughters will one day see a woman as President. Like Hillary, we have fought the good fight for the right reasons. That spirit does not die tonight. It lives on in the next generation of strong, confident, smart women. Thank you Hillary. I wish we could have broken that ceiling together.
Hang in there. I mean it. Really.
Ah, yes… “Hope and Change”… Exactly what our new president-elect has promised, and in which you apparently so fervently believe: The “hope” that he’ll single-handedly restore all those “good jobs” (even though he has not done so with his own branded products) and “change” like “#Drain the swamp.”
We’ll see how all that works out. Good luck.

And do NOT forget Ms Clinton won the popular vote. There is no mandate, no imperative to hop on the train to nowhere with whatzizname.
Nor to leap off in fear .

Well, you are obviously an individual of low intelligence and little education. You don’t know anything but name calling which is unconstructive and accomplishes nothing. But if pointing fingers is all you are able to do, who will be responsible when things go wrong. And things do go wrong in the best of worlds. Then stand in front of a mirror and say “I’m responsible”. And when promises made cannot be kept, look in that mirror again and say “I’m responsible”. And when gridlock halts everything, remember to say “I’m responsible”.

It’s quite bizarre to me that disaffected American voters would elect a 1%’er who has never done anything to benefit anyone but himself. In fact the records show that he’s done quite the opposite. The public has such a short memory and forgets that the Occupy movement was a protest of just his kind. The “Thump” presidency will only serve to benefit the wealthy elite of this country. The United States and her allies will suffer for electing this man.
I am not looking forward to this dark age of democracy. Maybe we should change the name of our country to the “Untied States of America.”

My daughters watched Hillary do all she could against the misogyny and sexism that plagued this campaign and plague us still. We’re all damaged at that notion that 50% of “us” voted for a bigot as our standard bearer. Sad, sad day. I’ll pick up my skirts and get my girls and me through it. After a few days of wallowing….

I am a 45 year old man and my heart weeps…unable to fathom the logic behind this country choosing to vote this man in !!
I left my home country 18 yrs ago to live in the greatest nation on earth and to experience this travesty?
We hope he leads better than he campaigned….but to think that people accepted the bigotry, sexism , lies that he peddled and yet won overwhelmingly? And this is the greatest nation? Is this how he makes America great again?
My 11 yr old son woke up crying this morning asking me how could the people of this country vote in a person who talks so divisively? How could they think it was ok to overlook all the things he has said and.done? He is naive and may not accept that Hillary had her flaws but how does one ever think he is better than her?
How does one choose change even if it is dark and divisive? And to think HIM over Her ?? God …forgive the people for they know not what they seek !!
Utterly devastated!

Trump leads more of a movement than a faction of the Republican party. Jim or someone wrote that the election process was rigged. It was, but not how he believes. Wikileaks shows that much of the media, Democrats and others were part of the same movement intended to sway public opinion. Wikeleaks even found a pamphlet instructing pollsters how to twist the messages revealed by polls.
Now, Democrats will endure the same near civil war as the Republicans have.
It will be an interesting year, especially for the pollsters who were so wrong.

They want us to believe Trump was voted in by the people! No. The FBI put Trump in and Hillary was cheated out of her service and election. Now, abortion will be illegal, gay marriage will be repealed. Corporate greed will become even more greedy and the people will become more poorer. Freedom of speech, workers’ rights and all the things that made life fairer will be repealed. Where did WikiLeaks come from? Why did Comey send the letter and why has none of the real dirt on Trump been allowed to come out? Now the real dirt on Trump will come out so they can impeach him and make Pence president. We have to work and not be deterred by this entrenched forces of evil and materialism. There will be protests by the young; they will try to make that illegal also. Trying times ahead.

Jim, you speak truth. So few people ever learn critical thinking. Fewer still want to make their own decisions. They are the real sheep. Dumbed down be poor education and kept their by the religious right. Pardon me. Wrong. This election WAS rigged. Too much dark money, too much interference by the FBI, whose reputation is in the toilet , the media. All should know better. An Ancient Greek philosopher stated that “people get the government they deserve “. Well there are many who don’t deserve this but will pay the price for hate, ignorance, bigotry and religious intolerance. But then, if those who orcastrated this get all they want, we will cease to be a viable species in only a few decades. We earned extinction.

Jim – I concur with your thoughts about the “creation” of He, Trump: The GOP was looking for some grabbable constituency, and they found one in the under-educated, under-employed, and left-behind poor whites… Growing up, I’ll bet you heard, “Well, at least I’m not black” more than once.
As you point out, those “manufacturing jobs” will NEVER come back, for the reasons you state, not here, and not in any other “advanced” country. They are just not economically feasible any more, as even He, Trump well knows. (He didn’t even manufacture his own brand’s products here, for that very reason.) Any attempt, by anyone governing, to impose any kind of regulation that might allow for any increase in manufacturing jobs will immediately be decried as “government overreaching,” “prohibiting profits,” and will never be accepted by our capitalist corporations and financial institutions.
Add to this He, Trump’s apparent ignorance about how much of anything actually works (including computers, BTW), his seeming lack of interest in actually learning anything, his often-noted short attention span, and the obvious dominance of his own ego and need for self-aggrandizement at all times, by all people, and it seems pretty clear that, as you say, he will not be able to deliver much of anything he has even so vaguely promised.
BUT as long as he is able to continue to convince people that the fault lies with immigrants/the “elites”/the “rigged system”/lack of “patriotism,” and anything else, many people will continue to believe. And this “belief” can go on for many more years than some might imagine possible, despite any and all evidence to the contrary.
Ironically, this outcome of this election was also determined by promises of “hope and change”… But hopes that seem, to many observers, impossible to realize, and “change” that can never happen…

The Bible teaches that he who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind. Donald Trump is the ultimate whirlwind produced by the Republican Party’s decision to chase after and cater to the racist white vote of the Deep South following the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. (I grew up in Alabama in the 1950’s and 60’s. I know whereof I speak.) Donald Trump told them what they wanted to hear. “If their lives were failures, it was not because they failed to learn new skills to get ahead in a computerized world. It was because “those people” were allowed to come into this country and take all the good jobs. Everything that is wrong with this country is someone else’s fault.” I’m looking forward to 4 years from now when the mob realizes that Trump kept almost none of his promises because it turns out that most of them were illegal or unconstitutional.

We need to stop saying that “Americans’ ignorance” and “Americans’ hatred” did this.
The reality is that, once the Voter Rights Act was gutted and defanged, the always present smaller element of white supremacy and hatred would inevitably rise–since millions of American votes were suppressed. How else would the drumfsterfire win North Carolina, to name the most blatant example?
The American experiment died last night. Welcome to the future under a wannabe plutocrat and his cadre of power hungry ass-kissing puppets.

This country has just lost every friend it ever had. As for those among the deluded whatever faction who voted for this Fuhrer, they are historically among his first victims. This specimen has no intention of ever leaving the White House which is why he crowed about what would do to the Constitution. that would include Article II. As for staying and fighting, resistance is already futile. There is no way you can do that sort of fighting from inside an internment camp. Am I over the top? Just look at the filth he spouted on the campaign trail. This has emboldened every R governor in the country to go nuts with fascism via their legislatures, Attorneys General, police departments. And, frankly, I am too old to learn Russian. Its an odd language anyway since it does not contain a certain grammatical part that others do. Good luck to anyone who decides to stick around. Maybe there is a chance of a job at sweeping up in the old defunct stock market offices.
