Margaret, tell Howard he is full of shit. Democrats aren’t trying to take his money. Show me a Republican who makes less than a million a year and I’ll show you a moron who watches Fox News. Newt wants to spout off about a food stamp President and welfare queens which is just another way of saying, “Hey. Who let the black guy into the White House?” And Romney wants us to believe that the poor in America are doing just fine and dandy. Good Lord where did the Republican party dig up these idiots?
Obama isn’t making plans to take your hard-earned money and give it to some poor person who is sitting at home with too many kids just living high on the hog off the government. Despite what Gingrich wants you to think, Obama isn’t a Socialist. I doubt most of the Gingrich voters even know the definition of socialism. After all, it has three more letters in it than Muslim. I do know this – taxes piss everyone off. Nobody likes to be taxed. But we all kind of like our roads, schools, healthcare, national security, law enforcement, energy… Those things represent the majority of what our taxes go to. And speaking of majority, the majority of welfare recipients are children. You know, those precious little bundles of life that the Republican base likes to ignore once the cord is cut.
And now we get to hear it all over again as Mitt and Newt head to Nevada. God help our friends out West. If ever there was a time for things that happen in Vegas to stay in Vegas, this would be it. And you my poor dear, Margaret. Your beautiful state of Maine is also up this week. I’d bake you a sympathy pie, but it won’t be long before the mud-slinging gets to my state as well. At least Perry has been put down.
Mitt and Newt are beginning to bore me. Let’s talk about something else today.
Three cheers for Virginia State Senator Janet Howell who gave the Old White Guys Club a taste of their own medicine. Virginia law makers are trying to pass their own version of the Texas law that requires a woman to have an ultrasound before terminating a pregnancy. Good ‘ole Senator Howell added an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication. I like how that lady thinks. Considering most of them have their head up their ass, a finger up the butt just might knock some sense into their brain. I wish politicians would figure out how to run the country rather than trying to run my uterus. Am I the only one to notice the hypocrisy of the Republican party? They want smaller government all right… just small enough to crawl up my vagina!
And shame on the Susan G. Komen Foundation for letting some Republican nut case from Georgia convince them to start picking on Planned Parenthood. With men like those Virginia State Legislators in the world, we women need to stick together. The folks at Komen might want to remember that it wasn’t all that long ago that breast cancer was another one of those women’s health issues that was feared and discussed in hushed tones, as if it were shameful. Women should be allowed to make medical decisions with their doctors and not with their politicians. Planned Parenthood is one of the largest providers of breast cancer screenings and mammogram referrals in the nation, and that asshat Karen Handel over at Komen is about to find out that Planned Parenthood is also one of the most trusted names in women’s healthcare. I surely would like to introduce Ms. Handel’s ass to my boot. A boot, I might add, that walked in many a Komen Race for a Cure. Now the only walking I’ll be doing is from my door to my mailbox to drop a check in the mail to Planned Parenthood. Women turning on other women when we already have the likes of Rick Perry to deal with… Well I never.
Maybe we should stop Walking for a Cure and start Walking for Respect. I mean it. Really.

Praise to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN DESPISED?
Think back over the course of your life. Can you remember times when your sense of value was cheapened by the behavior of others? If they were your authority figures did you accept the unkind remarks they made about you as true of yourself? Have you ever said about yourself the same type of things others said long ago? If you answer yes to any of these questions then you may be living in a very real sense of shame.
Jesus Christ made those He contacted feel better about themselves. Even an adulteress walked away with her sense of worth restored (John 8). Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would be “…despised and rejected of men” as Spurgeon commented “so the reader need not bear it” (Isaiah 53:3). Christ bore the emotional ills of His people so we would not have to medicate our pain. Instead we can believe that He “…carried our sorrows” for us (Isaiah 53:4).
Go to Him now and ask Him to minister this vital provision in your life.

I am raising three “unwanted” children right now that I did not give birth to. Thankfully, their biological mother chose their lives over the comfort of her own body. In the eyes of many, maybe not you and certainly not me, the circumstances of their conception might have warranted abortions. I am all for womens’ health, but I am not for women undergoing a brutal and painful procedure to destroy a life. And it has very little to do with religion or politics. It has everything to do with what I’ve experienced and what I’ve seen with my own eyes.

Bravo – glad you are privileged enough to have the choice – give other women that option. If you do not want to undergo a procedure do not have it. No one is forcing you; but do not that choice that you freely make on someone else. In your case you walk the talk and adopted but the reality is that some women do not have that luxury. Not all children are as privileged – the Norman Rockwell fantasy of a loving home for every child that is born is a fantasy. The same people who scream for no choice also cut the safety net that children not privileged to get adopted to a loving home – suffer needlessly for a life time. Those same no choice folks also want no contraception which would solve a large number of the pregnancy problems….they also support paying for Viagra the little blue pill that also contributes to the pregnancy problem. Prohibiting the use of Viagra and mandating the use of condoms or other birth control for men would also go a long way to cut pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion.
You have a choice so why deny that to others?

Helen, I am NOT the exception to your “Republican Rule”: I made $7900 last year. I believe in and have always supported Planned Parenthood (until I got laid off last year anyway). I believe in a woman’s right to make her own decisions about what happens to her own body. If that includes getting an abortion, that’s no one business but hers and God’s. I’m certainly nowhere near being a millionaire and never will be unless I win the lottery. That’ll be hard to do because I don’t buy lottery tickets. I don’t watch Fox News unless it just happens to be on already wherever I happen to be at the moment. I’ve been accused of being CONSERVATIVE more times than I can remember, because I AM CONSERVATIVE. I believe in being self-sufficient, even if that means living in my car. I don’t get unemployment, welfare, food stamps or Medicaid because I think others need it more than I do. I don’t have health insurance for the first time in my adult life (30+ years now) so I don’t go to the doctor. If I get some terrible disease, then it must be because God wants me to come home. Thank God my children are grown and have their own families to raise; I don’t have to worry about feeding anyone but me or keeping a roof over their head or anything like that. Be as outspoken as you like, but please stop the generalizing. Your spouting what you *think* you know about Republicans is as incorrect and damning as what those conservative talk show hosts spout about Democrats. How about stopping the name-calling if you want to be constructive and make things better.

Just encountered your blog — great stuff!
My grandmother is 84, and she could be writing your blog too — We are actually in Michelle Bachmann’s district in Minnesota. They gerrymandered the district so much that it will be a sure thing for ANY Republican, even one as moronic and air-headed as Bachmann. I’ve asked my grandmother if she would care to join me in throwing rotted fruit at her, and though she treasures the idea, jail is probably not the place to spend your golden years. When Bachmann won her first election, she came out wearing a TIARA as though she thought she were a prom queen, rather than a newly elected member of Congress. Palin’s vindictive and vacant thinking pales in comparison to Bachmann. I am ashamed to say I hail from her district. Minnesota used to be the home of relatively sane people. Evidently not any more.
Keep up the excellent work, Ladies!!

As far as being miserable, just the opposite. A few years back I took a year to remove as much of the negative from my life as one is able to do. I read at least one chapter from a self help/improvement/coaching type book every day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for 3 years running. Very interesting information regarding Komen:
“But a Komen insider told HuffPost on Sunday that Karen Handel, Komen’s staunchly anti-abortion vice president for public policy, was the main force behind the decision to defund Planned Parenthood and the attempt to make that decision look nonpolitical.”
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/05/karen-handel-susan-g-komen-decision-defund-planned-parenthood_n_1255948.html
“Karen Handel herself was the center of a Department of Justice investigation into her failure to impartially uphold voting rights laws while Georgia’s Secretary of State. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s reporting on the story: “Justice Department lawyers said Handel’s office had created a system that ‘does not produce accurate and reliable information and that thousands of citizens who are in fact eligible to vote under Georgia law have been flagged.’”
http://www.change.org/petitions/fire-karen-handel-get-back-to-your-mission
“Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a multimillion-dollar company with assets totaling over $390 million. Only 20.9% of these funds were reportedly used in the 2009-2010 fiscal year for research “for the cure.” Where does the rest of the money go? Let’s have a look. Health screening is 13.0%. Treatment is 5.6%. Fundraising is 10.0%. The largest chunk of the pie is going toward “public health education,” 39.1%. More on that later, but for now I’d like to take a look at the millions, or 11.3%, spent on “administrative costs.”

Thanks Even for proving my point. Your making light of, and ignoring all together, rape, coersion and men strong arming women into terminating babies they want to have proves you only care about one half of the problem, and you will never win by tackling only one half of the problem. As long as men aren’t being raised to respect and honor women, even those women who don’t respect and honor themselves, as long as men are raised to treat women like nothing more than warm pieces of meat to deposit their sperm, as long as no one deals with the male side of the problem, there will always be women who find themselves lied to, used, raped, abandoned and pregnant and in a heap of life-altering trouble. I actually would be all for a comprehensive repeal of Roe v. Wade. if we increased funds to provide more quality food, medical care, day care and education for children who are born to single mothers whose fathers are nowhere to be found, when laws make it easier to go after deadbeat dads and garnish their wages, if a woman is procecuted for having an abortion, the man who got her pregnant is also prosecuted, then I’d be much more on board with taking steps to curtail abortion rights. But people of your ilk don’t really care about saving innocent babies. You care about foisting your religious and moral beliefs on other people.

The major problem you have with hiding your identity, Hydra TexMex, is that you always use the same fallacy: the straw man – accusing people of saying things they never said and then getting exercised about it. It’s as self-identifying as an iris scan.

But then again, you ARE the person who pretended to make a melodramatic exit and swore never to return unless asked by the hosts. A woman and her doctor should make the choice of abortion – not the government or a white 60 year old male senator. If the mom’s life is in danger – that is a major consideration. I would ask my daughter to save herself – please.

If you are a woman who doesn’t believe in abortion, don’t have one.
If you are male and don’t believe in abortion, don’t ever have sex with a woman who
possibly might believe in abortion. Remember this – abortion is legal, and keeping it legal means fewer back-alley coat hanger procedures – and that’s a good thing.
ABORTION IS NOT MANDATORY. Neither is ‘pro-life’. Don’t continue to attempt
to insist that your opinion should be my opinion, and I won’t try to make you
embrace my beliefs. I mean it. Really.

Also, something is wrong, or it is not wrong. Your explanation smacks of situational ethics. If it is wrong to do something then its still wrong despite any justification you might have.

Honeyjorumples, you said it! This pro-life thing is simply about dumping on women and giving men a free pass. Ask a pro-life activist group who are in the business of talking women out of abortion what they are going to do about the rapist that caused the pregnancy and they will back-track and tell you that that is not their thing! As far as they are concerned rape is as good a way of getting pregnant as any other.

Get off your sanctimonious high horse, Hotshot. We have seen how well the right-winger “abstinence” programs have worked, haven’t we? The US has the highest rate of teen unwed pregnancy in the developed world. What’s that definition of insanity again – doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
The irony is that, when my high-school buds and I wanted a little sex (which was basically all the time), we couldn’t wait for warm weather and those tent revival meetings to meander across the South. Those hot, sweaty Christian abstainer girls just couldn’t weather all those pheromones wafting on the stultifying air in those un air-conditioned tents and the excitement of all that preachin’ without a little relief. We were all too happy to provide it.
Grow up and come in to the REAL world. Sex happens. Not only get over it, rejoice! That’s why you’re here…LOL

I would have rather thought mens role in getting a woman pregnant was obvious….you see..when two people love each other very very much……….
Where us pro life people have an issue is the belief by pro choice people that the child has no rights until born. They advocate the mothers rights at any stage of the pregnancy, but never the child until born. The belief the child is not alive until it breaths air is foolish by anyones standards, yet they hold to this belief regardless. Until these butchers can start to consider the rights of the child at some stage of the pregnancy, there can be no common ground.

I also take umbrage to the notion that abortion is the result of shallow, selfish women who don’t want the “minor inconvenience” of a pregnancy. Why is it when you want the baby, it’s the hugest, most life-altering, most significant thing that will EVER happen to you, but if you don’t want the baby, it’s just a “minor inconvenience?” When you want it, it’s huge and life altering in a good way. If you don’t want it, it’s huge and life altering in a bad way. There’s more to an unwanted pregnancy than discomfort or inconvenience.
I have never had an abortion. I have never been pregnant. But I know that for every abortion that takes place in this country, there is not only a woman who fell down, there is a man who commited adultery, fornication, rape, sexual coersion (honey, if you loved me you would, or if you don’t I’ll find someone who won’t) who abandoned or threatened to abandon (I frequent a relations forum and in a two year period four different women came to discuss their problem of being pregnant, desperately wanting their baby, but their man saying “I’m not ready to be a father. Get rid of it or I’m leaving you.” Sadly three of the four women couldn’t bear the thought of losing their man, so they killed their babies. We managed to talk the fourth woman into keeping her baby, mainly because the father was only a “friends with benefits” situation and she wasn’t in love with him and wasn’t willing to do anything she had to to keep his from leaving her) but I don’t ever hear anyone in the so-called “pro-life” movement addressing the role men play in unwanted pregnancies and the tragic termination of such. And that’s why the “pro-life” movement has failed for the past 35+ years to overturn Roe v. Wade, and why they will continue to fail. You cannot fix a problem by only addressing half of it. And they just want to demonize and vilify women. They REFUSE to deal with the other half.

I don’t understand why abortion is even a part of this discussion in any way. Abortion services are only a small part of what Planned Parenthood does, and NO money at all from SBK went to fund those services in any way at all. The money from SGK made it possible for lower income women to get cancer screening and early detection. Taking that money away would not stop any abortions, or make it harder for PP to provide abortion services. It would only take away cancer screenings, referals and early detection to low income women, the women whose lives depend on such services. A very foolish proposition, as we have now seen, since SBK cut off their nose to spite their face and it will take quite some doing for them to come back from this huge misstep.

Your morals mean squat to me because they seem to go away once elected. Not bad for a Muslim born in Kenya. Republicans not wanting to re-elect Obama isn’t exactly newsworthy. They like war and they hate gays, women and those damn government-cheese-sucking poor people. Is it an 8 year Section 8 waiting list if you’re suddenly homeless? Is it living in your car with your kids if you suddenly lose your job? Is it eating non-nutritious, dented canned food so many donate to soup kitchens or the lovely school breakfast/lunches that may be a child’s only meals? Is it trying to make $600 last an entire month for a family? Exactly how safe are these nets when they’ve had they’ve cut so many holes in them?

Even if Komen does reverse its decision on PP, I would recommend taking a close look at their financial statements before making further donations. They spend as much on administration and fund-raising as they do on research (about $77M each). If you want to support breast cancer research, I’m sure you can find an organization that will actually spend a much higher percent of your donation on research than Komen does.

So tell me doc, when does a child start to feel pain? When is the child aware of its surroundings? I know my child would respond to my voice, to music while inside my wife. Same argument as before, geography should not be the determination of life. Nothing magical occurs in the last few seconds when the child is inside the mother, then suddenly outside. It is reasonable to assume the child is worthy of protection at some point while inside the mother. The matter then is drawing a line most can live with.

You tell ’em, Helen.
SGK has been off message for quite a while, and now they’ve tipped their hand in a way that made us sit up and take notice.
I’m glad they’ve reversed themselves on funding for PP, but I’m afraid they have done themselves irreparable harm.
Planned Parenthood has always been there for women and men, and their only agenda is keeping people healthy. My money goes directly to them from now on.

Just a few moments ago, Komen announced that they are reversing their recent announcement that they would no longer be affiliated with PP. Talk about action – money really does talk loudly – I’d say that all the contributions to PP rather than Komen spoke volumes and because Komen wanted all that money to run through their hands and women to continue to walk in their walks, use pink as a symbol for them, etc. Yeah!

I read your post yesterday and immediately went online and donated to Planned Parenthood. I usually don’t donate impulsively, but this story makes me really angry. Knowing a bit of the history of who Susan G. Komen was makes this all the more unfortunate. I’m sure that Nancy Brinker (her sister and the founder) never in a million years thought that she’d ever allow anything to taint her sister’s name and memory. Now she’s allowed some nut job to come in with an agenda and ruin all the good that SGK was doing.
If this decision was politically motivated, shame on them. If it wasn’t, then the SGK board didn’t do due diligence when thinking of all of the consequences their decision would have. This makes me think that it was the former rather than the latter. These kinds of slash and burn decision are never motivated by the greater good or thoughts of good public relations because nut jobs usually just want what they want when they want it and screw everything else.
Kudos to Planned Parenthood! They are the ones who really reaped the benefits of this whole fiasco and now are on the verge of raising more money than they would have gotten from SGK to begin with. All they had to do is sit back and watch the fireworks. The president of NOW predicted that SGK may end up being on a quarter of what they are now in a couple of years because of the backlash. That’s the power of ordinary citizen walking their talk when an injustice is being done. I’m getting pretty sick of seeing the health of poor women and children being a political issue. Don’t people realize that it is cheaper to keep people well than it is to care for them when they are sick? Don’t get me started…..
Thanks, as always, for the wise perspective. Really. I mean it.

Also, too- there is the tendency to argue from the other extreme , the late term abortion, the general exception to the rule.
As 88% of all abortions occur in the 1st 12 weeks of the 38 week pregnancy time frame, why are we always talking about the exception- which is performed only to save the mother?
And really- as regards Komen- why is a witch hunt by a bully Congressman being elevated to the status of a real investigation of PP?

anon Hydra –
Here is a pseudo-dup post from Rutherford’s blog. I think it sums up how the fetus-people frame the argument in their own terms and then attempt to debate from that point. Of course, it always leads to nothing, because they DON’T WANT TO TALK AND THEY DON’T WANT TO COMPROMISE. THEY WANT WHAT THEY WANT, AND TO HELL WITH EVERYBODY ELSE’S OPINION.
******************
Nice attempt to sneak in your own definition of fetus-as-innocent-child and then frame the whole argument around it.
That definition is really the core of the whole argument, isn’t it? I think most folks understand that a pregnancy is a work-in-progress that, as it goes along, starts with a couple of strips of DNA and develops eventually into a child, and they are willing to strive diligently and honestly to find a workable solution. (Actually, Roe v Wade is a fine, workable solution)
The fetus-people of course define all feti (like that word? made it up) as “children” and then go from there, and of course there is NO talking about it.
As long as that is your definition then there will be no compromise. You will either steamroll or be steamrolled. So far the anti-abortionists are the sail-cats. Doesn’t seem very productive to me.

Ah, anon – so once we are caught in a lie, we say that wasn’t the point after all – we change the subject. In my part of the woods we call that “crawfishing.” Sorry – that dog doesn’t hunt. I’d say nice try but a nice try is one that is not as transparent as a windowpane.
Watch abortions? Are you kidding? I PARTICIPATED in MULTIPLE abortions during medical school – it was part of our training. Don’t try to kid a kidder – or impress people with knowledge that you don’t have. There are people out there who DO.
Learn something about your subject and then return for discussion. And the rantings of Randall Terry or Klondike Kardashian (Palin) are not valid reference, by the way.

I thought this to be self evident. Ive my notions as to why your avoiding the obvious. If we really wanted to take it to task, we could say silent scream. Not such a far fetched concept.
Not that I am telling you anything you dont already know but the point was to denote a child in pain as it is being killed. If you have ever had the courage to watch a late perm abortion, you would understand this. Or maybe you do and are purposeful in taking your denial to the levels you have. Considering we are talking about the end of a life, and your entire argument is based on if the child does or does not make a noise is the part that makes your argument weak. I think the notion of a life ending more than slightly trumps if the child makes a noise or not eh?

Anonymous. Quit being an idiot. There is a difference between screenings and mammograms. You do screenings to determine if you need a mammogram. Planned Parenthood does over 800,000 screenings a year and then refers for mammograms if the screening indicates. Stop watching Fox News and pull your head out of your ass. Screenings are ground zero for early detection. Please educate yourself before writing here. ~ HP

Just because I hold a regard for life does not make me a troll. Liberals are known all over the world for having an inability to take responsibility for anything, abortion is no exception. Their concern only for self is equally well known and abortion is no exception. This then explains the entire philosophy behind why Liberals believe in abortion.

At Kath M, you’re right about there being more children needing adoption than parents willing to adopt. I used the word “infant” for that very reason. There are always families looking to adopt infants. Children, sadly, are another story entirely.
I don’t frequent this blog and I doubt I’ll ever read it again, honestly. But I did stumble upon this post and wanted to comment. I’m sure the authors of this blog can handle varying opinions or they wouldn’t bother writing at all. In fact, I daresay, based on their writing style, that they invite some controversy. What’s the fun in only reading commentary that you could have written yourself or hanging out with people who share your same beliefs? Perhaps exposing ourselves to other points of view is a good thing. And my point of view is that abortion is the killing of an innocent life, not the private business of the woman who’s carrying that life.

I read the comments there and here with a sinking feeling. How can people not understand that access to decent healthcare including abortion and contraception saves so many lives? If you ban abortions you’ll just push them underground and women will die as a result.
And to the lady who said “there’s always people willing to adopt.” I don’t know about the USA; but in the UK there are more children needing adoption than parents willing to adopt. Your arguement needs stats to back it up.

If you ladies want to carve up a child like a thanksgiving turkey, you should have no problem watching and hearing a child that has been late term aborted scream as its body is being torn in half. Since you find no moral objection to the action you should not have any objection to watching the death occur. If you have a problem watching it, when how can you support the deed?

The January-February 2012 issue of Mother Jones magazine on page 10 has an article about how the Susan G. Komen foundation dismisses over 20 scientific studies linking BPA exposure to increased breast cancer risk. “Yet Komen has repeatedly dismissed possible links between breast cancer and the common chemical bisphenol A (BPA), even as it accepts millions of dollars in donations from companies that use the compound in their products.”
Just another example of how the rich and powerful think nothing of preying on sick people, the American way….. GREEDHEADS!

I think that my childrens’ birth mother has done and is still doing many things that are irresponsible, but giving birth to these children is not one of them. I believe giving birth to them was noble and good, one of the few right choices that she’s made. I did use the word “choice” because right now it is a legal choice, whether I think that it should be or not. There are always parents ready to adopt infants when their biological parents cannot care for them.
And I have given birth. You’re right, it’s is brutal! I’ve also had two D&Cs at about 13 weeks because my babies hearts stopped beating. The procedures were invasive and very painful. I’ve also held in my hands my 21 weeker as he died. He was 8.2 ounces, 9 inches long and perfect in every way, just too small.
I won’t convince you to feel how I feel. I know that. But my personal experiences have show me that human life is to be valued and protected. Nothing anyone says can change my stance on that.

Thank you Helen. I’m a 6 year survivor of breast cancer. Why shouldn’t everyone have the same opportunity to get the same care! I was sent to Komen for biopsies and mammograms and breast MRI’s. I was fortunate to have insurance to cover it. What about those that don’t have insurance? Shouldn’t they be able to be covered too? My daughter-in-law has run the race in my name for several years now….but would rather she gives her money to PP now so everyone gets the opportunity to get woman’s care, not just the wealthy.

Jhintze –
Do you think it is irresponsible for your children’s biological mother to bring three children into the world, knowing that she could not care for them? It’s good that you have the resources to do her job for her; that’s not always the case.
And you will note that you said she made the choice to have them. How about allowing other people the same choice?

I am raising three “unwanted” children right now that I did not give birth to. Thankfully, their biological mother chose their lives over the comfort of her own body. In the eyes of many, maybe not you and certainly not me, the circumstances of their conception might have warranted abortions. I am all for womens’ health, but I am not for women undergoing a brutal and painful procedure to destroy a life. And it has very little to do with religion or politics. It has everything to do with what I’ve experienced and what I’ve seen with my own eyes.

Is there any cause that politics does not corrupt??? I am bored with Newt and Romney too, Helen. This entire political
circusprocess and the constant campaigning is SO counterproductive. The moneyspentwasted on it alone could fund cancer research AND provide low cost or no cost health care to women in need. Obviously that isn’t the intent of those that champion this cause. If “the cure” was found, what would happen to the foundation? We are SO messed up and WAY too proud to repent.

I’ve raised tens of thousands of dollars for the SGK Foundation back in the early 2000s, but then learned that they are absolutely not politically non-neutral, and I dropped them like a hot rock. My support for Planned Parenthood, who supported me with low-cost exams and birth control in my younger years, has continued with interest. I stand with Planned Parenthood and will be actively working to convince people to NOT participate in the Race for the Cure or any other (fill in the blank) for the Cure events to come.

Honey, well behaved women rarely make history. And using the term “classy” usually means you have none. I support your choice not to have an abortion. That’s the pro-woman side of me. Too bad you can’t support my decision to not bring an unwanted child (male or female) into this world. Keep those legs crossed honey and you’ll never have to worry about it.

Margaret,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am disgusted by these women who would choose to put politics and Religion ahead of helping other women when they need it the most. What happened to separation of church and state? Why are we letting them shove their religous beliefs down our throat and up our vagina?
Don’t like abortion, Don’t have one!! Lets take care of the children that are here and in need. Hungry, homeless, abused, there are so many children in need of help.
We must stand together or we are lost. My check for P.P. is on it’s way. I will no longer walk for, work for, or donate to Komen.

if being tactless and brutal in our responses to each other worked for the good of all I’d be all for it. Since it accomplishes nothing more than increasing the anger level in our discourse, my take is, let’s be civil. I think the Ladies of The Blog might agree. What do you think?

Victooria, your trampesk nature aside, why don’t we just take care of them all? Shame there is so little room in your withered heart that you think we cant do both. Or more to the point, rob you of your chance to butcher another helpless life.

Thank you ladies, for speaking out so quickly about the Komen Foundation. I’ve done some reading about them this morning and found this Alternet story “The Marketing of Breast Cancer
The Komen Foundation, creator of the 110-city Race for the Cure, is tied up in private interests that run counter to its charity-driven mission. ”
http://www.alternet.org/story/14014/
Most comments I find about today’s news suggest that people will transfer their donations to Planned Parenthood directly.
Now I know the Komen Foundation’s pink was really just bleached out red.

You can donate as little as $5. to Planned Parenthood and they will send a thank you note to the person you wish to honor with your donation.
That’s pretty cool, because you can chose to honor:
Karen Handel
Senior VP of Fail
c/o Susan G. Komen Foundation
P.O. Box 650309
Dallas, TX 75265-0309
Come on, you’ve got $5. to make a large point, don’t you?

Susan G. Komen Foundation decided to fund organizations that actually performed mammograms, rather than Planned Parenthood that just reefers services to those organizations. Smart move in my opinion.

Love you ladies. How sad that Komen decided to make this political. Now women will be torn on which organization to support. THat seems very defeating to me. We women need to stick together. I hope Komen changes their mind. Planned Parenthood is a great organization. I kept going to them even after I had insurance because I was so comfortable with them.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am doing the same-sending a check to Planned Parenthood. I saw the woman who runs the organization on MSNBC last night and she said that there is a specific location on their website to send donations that will go to make up for the funds that Komen will no longer donate.
The head of Komen is a conservative Republican woman who, when she tried to run for governor of GA, vowed to end funding to PP, and I guess she has succeeded. I’m wondering if there is collusion between her and the legislator from Virginia. Wouldn’t surprise me.

I used to walk for Komen. Now I will STAND FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD because they were there for me when I couldn’t afford to go anywhere else. Had my annual check-ups there including a pap smear and annual breast cancer screening. Thank god they never had to refer me on for further tests but they did detect a lump in my college roommate’s breast. Thanks to the early detection, she is today almost 13 years cancer free.
