Margaret, I look at this picture and I am disgusted. I know I’m supposed to be upset about the Hatch Act. I get it. The law is the law and even the President isn’t above the law. We’ve been there. We’ve done that. And Mitch McConnell told us the law and the constitution needed to take a back seat because Donald Trump is just too important. Screw national security. Screw the Hatch Act. Screw the Constitution.
You know why I am mad when I look at that picture? The real reason? It’s not the Hatch Act. It’s not impeachment. It’s not who is leading in the polls and who isn’t. It’s not about blue beating red or red beating blue. I am pissed off because America and Americans deserve better.
America hasn’t solved the pandemic yet and Americans are still dying by the thousands.
America hasn’t opened back up for business yet and Americans are holding on by a thread.
Parents want their kids back in school. Teachers want to feel safe.
Business owners want to return to business as usual. Customers want to shop. God how I just want to go out to dinner and see a movie.
Children want to visit their aging parents in nursing homes. And Grandparents want desperately to hug and kiss our grandchildren one more time.
How dare you. How dare you, Mr. President. We are out here in America doing EVERYTHING we can to NOT get or spread this disease. And some of us are doing it without knowing if we will be able to pay our rent next week. We are wearing masks. We are social distancing. We are making sacrifices every day in hopes that we can reduce the number of deaths. For me 1,000 deaths were too many much less 200,000.
Every other first world country has gotten this thing under control and here we are still leading the world in cases and deaths. That’s not success. That’s failure. You want to blame this city or that state. You want to blame this Mayor or that Congressman. How is that helping anything? We needed to work harder at this. We needed to ALL come together and do what was needed to be done.
And then you do this? You bring a thousand of your fans together without masks, without any precautions whatsoever? And then you put it on television and rub our noses in it with a million dollars’ worth of fireworks? Fuck the Hatch Act. I don’t give three shits about the Hatch Act. Screw it. And SCREW YOU MR. PRESIDENT.
We are out here dying. Quite literally dying. Over five thousand of us died just during your little show. And what do you do? You announce to God and country that you don’t care. You don’t bare any responsibility. You can do whatever you want whenever you want because, in your world, pandemic or not, being President is more important than being American. While we are struggling and yes, afraid… you throw a party.
I didn’t watch last night. I didn’t listen to your speech. I am tired of your lies and the people who lie for you. But I saw the pictures. I saw the gathering and the hugs and the cheers and the absence of masks. And here I sit doing my small part to help America recover. And today I am sicker than I have ever been. My heart is broken. My brain is tired. And I am out of my mind with anger.
Your selfishness is killing people. You don’t deserve our votes. You don’t deserve to breathe the same air we breathe. In your America 200,000 people are dead and it didn’t have to be that way. In your America children are rioting in the streets begging for justice and it didn’t have to be that way. In your America whites are told to fear blacks and blacks are told that equality isn’t a right but rather a reward for good behavior.
You are rigth Mr. President. You and your family said it all week long. I hate YOUR America. It’s an awful, shameful, disgusting place to live.
To be clear, it is Trump’s America. It is not Barack Obama or Joe Biden’s America. YOU are the President. YOU. Donald J. Trump. HEY SIRI. WHO IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES? ALEXA. WHO IS THE 45TH PRESIDENT?
It’s YOU. It’s all you. I look at that picutre and I realize that everything bad with our nation isn’t because of Republicans or Democrats or white people or brown people or black people. I am so tired of being afraid of my neighbors. I am so sick of looking at Facebook and wondering who is going to piss off whom. It’s not them. It’s not us. I look at that picuture and I realize, it’s you.
I can’t wait for Joe Biden’s America. I am begging for Joe Biden’s America. WE ARE DYING FOR JOE BIDEN’S AMERICA.
Go back to your castle in the sky, Mr. Trump. Go back to your palace in Florida. Go back to your nice life with your pretty wife and your perfect children. Go back and please take Rudy, Mitch, Lindsey, Marco, Mike, and the rest of them with you. Go now so the healing can begin.
This great nation of ours will survive you, Mr. Trump. But as God as my witness, I pray that your Presidency doesn’t survive us this November. I mean it. Really.

Here in New York State, we we started loosing loved ones in February. #45 admitted to Bob Woodward in a Feb 7 phone call that the Novel Coronavirus “It goes through air,” “So that’s a tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus.” So he knew.
At the same time, he was telling us “when it gets a little warmer it miraculously goes away.” Most cases in New York came from Europe, the scientists know this from the DNA of the Virus. In an NPR.org article I read “On Feb. 28, at a rally in South Carolina, he called Democrats’ criticism of his handling of the virus “their new hoax.” Attendees at the rally told reporters they thought the whole story of the virus was a media creation. The following day, the first U.S. death was announced, and Trump opened his news conference talking about progress in Afghanistan.
Flights from Europe were finally slowed around March 11.
So, YES, we CAN blame the one person who could have acted but didn’t want us to panic, since he must think we are a bunch of lilly livered panty wastes who, if we were fighting WWII today, would loose miserably.
And besides, he didn’t want his campaign contributors to loose money in the Stock Market (which is really just a rich man’s gambling game)

Mark, if nothing else like the economy and its attachment to the corona virus and the way that the mismanagement of one damns the other, how about the scorn for our military live or dead, active or imprisoned in enemy territory does it for you? My husband and his brothers served in the military and all of them valued the experience. It meant a lot to them. The administrations in existence during their tours of duty were both Republican and democratic. And no one in any of these administrations – NO ONE – insulted them. Think about that when next you salute the flag inasmuch as their was a flag patch on their uniforms. These three must be spiraling in their graves. If they could, they would dig tunnels and pay you a visit.

Amazon is also acceptable. And that’s where the reviews are. I’ve digressed. I’m writing this to say how enraged I am too. Along with – lord willin’ and the crick don’t rise – enough of us who feel the same way to outvote and therefore outvoice his bloviating, congregating, anybodynotlikeme hating ‘base.’ The word has several definitions. Yes, you are one angry woman! Praise God because there are thousands more angry women that wish they’d had the courage to say what you did! God bless you for putting in writing what so many of us are too afraid to do. You are my hero! Every time I hear another lie about how he sent PPE’s and ventilators to hospitals so quickly, and how he shut down travel from China, I physically feel sick! He might be able to snow his blind followers, but he can’t hide the truth from the doctors, nurses and first responders who helplessly watched their patients and coworkers suffer and die as they waited for that load of ventilators that arrived broken and missing pieces and the PPE that had been sent to China! This country deserves better! He keeps saying that the only way he’ll lose the election is if there’s fraud. My fear is that the only way he’ll win is if there’s fraud! What breaks my heart the most is how he’s mesmerized and brainwashed people to the point that he has families and friends turning on each other. He’s blatantly talked about another civil war. He’s seems to be provoking one every time he opens his mouth!

not to pile on or anything, Alaskapi did an excellent job of pointing out It’s errors, BUT, yes, it would have been different if we had a different president. The one we have not only ignored and cancelled all the work done in the past 20 years to prevent a “plague” from coming to our shores, when the experts told us we were in trouble, It suggested the Novel Coronavirus would, like magic, just disappear. poof! Well, it didn’t and here we are with (sorry,I have to keep checking the number, I believe it’s now) over 180,000 dead Americans who might still be spending their time locked down with their families.
And, yes, people die all the time from all sorts of causes, Sometimes the causes are just the normal stupidity of kids, gun lovers, motorcycle freaks, kids, adventurers, drunk drivers etc. But the scientists who hang out at real universities and study these things all agree that thousands more would be alive now if those in power had taken this threat to peace and prosperity just a tiny bit more seriously and shut down all the scurrying around a week or two sooner (well, I guess you can’t really scurry around while on a plane coming home from your cruise but they were reminding me of cockroaches) (OK, I do have a prejudice against “cruising” as a way to “see the world without actually learning anything about other cultures” but do learn to fold washcloths to resemble swans)
I do agree with the idea of living one’s life to the fullest but before you take that deep breath, please make sure the strangers nearby are using real masks for your protection and that you too, are wearing a mask for their protection.

Incomparably brilliant as usual. You are such a straight shooter and you never, but never miss the bull’s eye. Once upon a time I lived and worked in D.C. I loved it! Folks back home liked to hear me talk about it. Can’t do that any more. At night a bunch of the local streets around the WH are closed off and under guard. This can also happen during the day for “special events”. I do not ever recall any of the previous CIC’s doing this, even when our country was attacked by terrorists. I am aiming to retire, sell out and move back to the heartland next year. KI am going to take some pictures with me of DC and some of the other places around here. I will keep them in a big album (I’m old school, you see) so my grand kids can look at them and I can tell them stories about what Nana did for her country. And I will do whatever I can to help Joe fro Scranton, PA get elected. I keep thinking of him debating the Golden Gibbon. I hope they are on separate stages and doing all this in virtual fashion. I know for sure if they are on the same stage Joe is going to come to a point where he rips his shirt off and offers the Gibbon a chance to put his own dukes up. Dukes? Those tiny hands? All that cowardice? Nah. It just won’t happen – in public at least.

Helen, I just typed a variation of the following on another well written blogpost. So, please forgive the repeat here. Having been on this planet for close to 62 years, this independent and former Republican (and Democrat) voter can say without a doubt, Donald Trump is the most corrupt and deceitful president in my lifetime, including Richard Nixon, who was a crook.
Taking Trump at his word is a fool’s errand, but it is also proving to be dangerous. General James Mattis, who was Trump’s Secretary of Defense, said Trump does not even try to unite us. It is actually worse than that. He is trying to divide us. And, he will succeed, if we don’t stand up and say this is not right. Not with violence, as that feeds into his hands and is never appropriate, in my view. Trump thrives on mudslinging, but has a hard time with debate on issues, as he does not know them or lies about them.
While I cannot watch the president as counting the lies is frustrating, I am most perturbed by the GOP sycophants in the legislatures who have rationalized away behavior that is unconstitutional, criminal and certainly not Christian-like. He has done more damage to Christianity than any atheist ever could.
I think clear messages to Senators, Congress people, Governors, etc. are needed – we must not tolerate sowing seeds of racial division. We cannot tolerate attacks on the voting process by a president of the United States – he is supposed to protect us and it.
I did take hope in the bipartisan move by Democrat governor and Republican Secretary of State in Kentucky on steps to protect the integrity of the voting process. What is interesting, the Senator Majority Leader, who is from Kentucky, and the president could learn from them, if they so choose, but it seems they do not want to.

This is worth publishing in newspapers, magazines, on the internet , AARP newsletter, and anything I’ve left out!! Beautifully written. I want to preserve it so I can read it again and again. I’m almost in quarantine eight months!! My daughter lives in another city. I miss her more than I can say. I’ve had to postpone orthopedic surgeries. I went to My doctor today for a healthy problem caused mainly by being in quarantine! As a senior citizen I am at high risk with ie without the Coronavirus.Johns Hopkins said if trump would have taken steps to shut down the country two weeks sooner 83 per cent of – that’s 83 per cent of this country would not have died. I can’t wait to vote for Joe Biden. And Kamala.

This says everything! The CDC said a week or so ago that if we all just wore masks for 4-12 weeks, the worst would be over. What about the last 30 weeks that I have spent in a mask, distant from people I love, scrubbing my hands, serving at a food pantry, feeling anxious, sacrificing normalcy. Thank you Helen! For us “old” folks we know America is better than this. We know what is was like to see quality shows on tv. Some rules and regulations to live by. Respect for your elders and teachers. No we were not perfect but this coruption going on in government was not so blatant. Now they don’t even try to hide it. I don’t have the words to discribe my anger at that mfing asshole who thinks he deserves a second term. He has had 4 years to make America great and what has he accomplished?
