How hard would one have to pull to get Trump’s head out of Wayne LaPierre’s ass? #NeverAgain #NRABoycott

From Helen:

Margaret, I’ve really started to enjoy this whole Twitter thing. It’s short and sweet. And you know me honey, I’m nothing if I’m not fat and mean. No wait…

Anyway, I was looking around at all the different tweets and I came across one about Ann Coulter. My old nemesis has been pretty irrelevant for years, but I couldn’t resist because it just made me laugh. Someone tweeted the question: Does Ann Coulter have to be crated on Delta flights or could you make the case that she is a comfort pet? I’m going to say yes to the former, but no to the latter.

It got me wondering, however, about what Ann has been up to these days. Apparently she is using her 3rd grade writing skills to make the case that a mass deportation of immigrants would result in mass shootings being reduced by half. She likes the word mass. Me too. If we had a mass deportation of old, white racists, I bet we would see a mass decrease in Ann Coulter readers and probably a mass NRA membership reduction of about half. I’m sure the other half are responsible hunters who still think the NRA is about them. Unless of course they’re hunting deer with an AR-15. Then they are just assholes.

The NRA membership is less than 2% of the population and yet the NRA owns 100% of Republican politicians. They do not represent gun owners. They lobby to protect the profits of gun manufacturers. For heaven’s sake, more people have read our blog and Margaret and I are nobodies.

I don’t encourage you to read what Ann writes, but if you did I’m sure you would be scratching your head like me and asking yourself how does she do it. How does she make a living writing books when she is so absolutely terrible at it? Honestly, if 50 monkeys typed for 50 days hitting keys at random they would most definitely type three of her books.

Ann’s logic, or lack thereof, is that some mass shooters have ancestors who were immigrants. Ann seems to forget that we all have ancestors who were immigrants. In fact, if we had a mass deportation of people born from immigrants, we would see a sharp decline in the number of poorly written, conservative books by an author who has to shop for shoes at a specialty store.

But enough about Big Foot… I mean Ann. You know who I really can’t stand now? That horrible NRA spokesperson, Dana Loesch, who thinks CNN and MSNBC love mass shootings because crying white mothers are “ratings gold”. I really didn’t think there was anyone more pathetic than Ann Coulter, but I don’t hang around in sewers so I had never heard of Ms. Loesch before. Honestly, she looks like something the dog has been hiding under the porch, so I’m not sure I want to get to know her. I have no idea if she’s as dumb as Ann, so I’m going to call her bluff and see if she is correct. Let’s ban all assault weapons and see if CNN and MSNBC go off the air because mass shootings become a thing of the past. Do we have a deal? The balls in your court, Dana. Actually it’s under the porch with you and the dog.

And speaking of that idiot Ann Coulter – OK bad segue but any chance to call Ann an idiot is ratings gold for me. And speaking of that idiot Ann Coulter, I wonder where she stands on the orange asshole. For or against?  I assume she is pro Trump, but again she’s been irrelevant so long I’m not sure. She hates immigrants. He hates immigrants. She loves guns. He loves guns.  She sort of looks like a man.  He sort of looks like a man. She has affairs with porn stars. He has affairs with porn stars. No wait. I honestly can’t back that last one up with any factual evidence. And while both she and Trump don’t believe in facts, I hold myself to a higher standard. So I issue this corrected statement: I have no idea if a porn star would actually sleep with Ann Coulter. However, I stand by my statement about porn stars sleeping with Trump. Sometimes they even marry him.

Now, where was I going with this? Oh yes. Stupidity.  Is Ann more stupid than Trump or is Trump more stupid than Dana?  I’m going to say no to the former and yes to the latter. There is no stupidity like Trump stupidity, although Ann and Dana come close.

Arming teachers with guns is really your answer?  Are you kidding me?  And to make it sweeter, Trump says we’ll give them “a little bit of a bonus.”  Dear Lord in Heaven, but there is no bullshit like orange bullshit. Well, as long as we’re not going to take the issue seriously, why don’t we give guns to Delta Flight Attendants so they can put down Ann Coulter when she goes off on them again. By the way, Delta, thank you for stopping your discounts to NRA members. Not only does it put you on the right side of history, it ensures more people like Ann won’t have to be crated on your flights.

Way back before the election, during the presidential debates, Hillary Clinton suggested that Donald Trump wanted guns in school classrooms.  Trump called her Crooked Hillary and said she was WRONG!  He frequently tweets and speaks in ALL CAPS because he’s a moron. Anyway, I digress. The fact is, he lied. But are we really surprised? Trump has led a life of greed, adultry, racism and deceit – all verifiable. Why did we think his presidency would be any different? #MAGA is a joke.

I have an idea, Mr. Trump. How about you pull your head out of Wayne LaPierre’s ass and we just ban assault rifles and give all teachers a bonus to cover the cost of their classroom supplies. But if you are really going to ask them to carry guns to protect students, then how about we cap their salaries at the same level we cap secret service agents – that’s about $160,000 per year. Or, like I said earlier, we could just ban assault rifles. Wait a minute. Let me holler that down Wayne LaPierre’s throat so you can hear me.

Donald Trump actually needed notes to remind him how to be sympathetic to teens who survived a mass shooting. Somebody please find the Tin Man and see if he will give Donald a heart.  And while we’re at it, let’s work on a Scarecrow with a spare brain.

Have all Republicans lost their minds? Why are you trying to create a world where more guns is the answer? Why aren’t we trying to find a solution that results in less guns? Considering how much you increased military spending, I’m pretty sure the need for an unregulated, redneck militia has been mitigated. Red Dawn was just a movie… oh crap. Russia.  I forgot about Trump colluding with Russia. Well damn, my argument was pretty good until now.

Ok.  Let me try again. NRA lovers like Dana say that it wasn’t the gun, it was Nikolas Cruz that killed 17 people.  Well, I’m pretty sure if Nikolas Cruz had simply shown up with a pea shooter, that brave Emma Gonzalez would have punched him the face.  The NRA is right. Guns don’t kill people. They just make it a hell of a lot easier.

How about we make it less easy for school children to be slaughtered. Ban assault rifles. I mean it. Really.

#NeverAgain #MarchForOurLives

From Margaret:

Courage. You forgot courage, dear. We need to find a lion. Or better yet, let’s see if one of those high school kids can show Trump what courage is.  An exercise in futility, I am sure.

Note from Matthew: We use WordPress to create this blog. WordPress, not us, generates the ads. We were shocked to see the gun map ad too. I was going to complain, but then my Grandmother started laughing. In her words “Let those fools waste their advertising money. The more who see it and ignore it here, the less who will see it if it was more appropriately displayed elsewhere .” She’s smart like that.

  2. Ok Ladies, I trust you’re still of sound mind and semi-good spirits. It’s been three months +/- since your last letter to me! I know we all have outrage fatigue but, it’s time to get back to work. Please make me smile… My outrage fatigue is turning into despair, as evidenced by Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing In the Name” on my playlist on replay.

  5. Porch dwellers, just found out the distance between the winner (R) and the non-winner (D) in the AZ special election must be horrifying the GOP. The percentage last time around was 21%. The GOP was looking for a repeat inasmuch as the vast majority of people in the area are over a certain age, have a history of always voting GOP, etc. Note also that the Congressional District covers Sun City. I’m sorry the Doctor didn’t carry the day but the other competing priority for the D’s is VERY important!

  6. Well, LET’S GET TO IT, LADIES – AND PORCH-SITTIN’ GENTLEMEN! We know what to do: Get out the vote, every single seemingly “unimportant” local town council representative, every registrar of voters, every zoning commissioner; respond to your elected officials’ posts; do that postcard thing; let every corporation CEO know when she/he does the right thing (and, yes, I’m talking Starbucks here, among others, but not dam enough of them); never shut up. You’d be amazed how when you say, “This just isn’t normal,” how many people – especially women – reply, “I’ve been wondering about that, but I never had the guts to say it…”

If you have close friends, neighbors, and/or family members who feel differently than you do, take a deep breath, find common ground, and just stick calmly with civil conversation, until they just run out of knee-jerk reactions. (And keep a lid on your own, too!) It isn’t easy – but obliterating stereotypes is a powerful way to end division. It’s hard to hate someone you have to come to know…

Margaret and Helen have been, and hopefully will soon be again, wonderful inspirations, callers-out of BS, and the source of a lot of laughs. We can do this – and we’re the ones who can, along with our kids, grandkids, and wise souls everywhere…

Reminds me of the insurance salesperson who says, “We’ve seen a lot, so we know a lot.” Time to use it.

  10. Porch dwellers, I saw some of the Mark Z. testimony on TV. Those legislators were not handling the technical end well at all. These are the guys who know nothing about technical stuff anyway. It would have been better if there children and grandchildren handled the questioning. As for Mark, he invented and then let loose the kraken upon the citizenry of the world, a literal gossip line without any control whatever. It ended up being by God destructive as all get out. The defense of “I am not responsible for the behavior of strangers” just doesn’t wash. Cars have to b built responsibly with damn good brakes etc. or as a product, they go down the tubes. And manufacturers are required to do recalls and sometimes even get sued no end. As far as I am concerned what this guy did was simply to invent and put into the hands of the general public something that is as much a weapon as what the NRA adores.

  11. May that wave become a tsunami of outrage… Watching the Congress “question” Mark Zuckerberg and righteously intoning that Facebook is “enabling” the opioid disaster just makes me SCREAM at the unbelievable hypocrisy of some of our supposedly-elected “representatives.” Invariably, those most “outraged” are the same who do their damnedest to shut down every other form of “consumer protection,” who bark again and again that “guns don’t kill people; people kill people” and would NEVER take the NRA to task for “enabling” gun deaths. (Why don’t all gun sales come with a written warning that what the purchaser has just obtained “might” accidentally kill someone?)

So is the “cause” of the opioid epidemic our lack of that “beautiful wall”? Or is it Facebook? Or is it violent video games and the left-wing Commie elitist Hollywood crowd? It couldn’t POSSIBLY have anything to do with McKesson sending literally millions of doses to a pharmacy in a town of approximately 400 residents, or anything like that…

And, remember, “corporations are people, too,” and have a right to expand their customer base… Right, Big Pharma? Right, Remington and Smith & Wesson? And nobody wants “government regulation” on their rights to free speech, do they? Why don’t they just let Facebook “regulate itself,” as they feel is the perfect right of big banks, fossil fuel companies, hog farmers, and wedding cake bakers?

Meanwhile, President* Spanky Bonespurs can’t be allowed by his handlers to spend five seconds in front of a Congressional inquiry without crayons and a script, and an investigation of his attorney/”fixer” is declared an “attack on our country.”

    This is nuts – NUTS!

Yes! I have worn my Pink Pussy Hat many times. I have been to many Marches here in the great PNW. I was at the BIG march last month for better Gun laws and will be going next weekend to the Science March all wearing my Pussy Hat. It seems that marching and meeting so many other people is a small way to express yourself, but it does help to see how many other people out there share our thoughts and feelings. There are very few active ways to protest the destruction of our country, short of marching and writing your representatives. I feel so helpless in the face of the HUGE Russian and Republican take over of our politics, Facebook, TV news stations, schools, banks and churches! Even NPR is slanting a little more to the right instead of being balanced! We must fight back how ever we can!

For instance, how many still have their pink pussy hats? Did they wear them more than once this winter? And those Nasty Woman T-shirts. Don’t forget them! 27. Gato, I have been really concerned for some time about the inability for various sections of the entire country to be communications “blind”. I am all for stretching broadband everywhere. It is about 60 miles or so from my house to Richmond, the capitol of VA, and halfway there my cell phone has big problems. Coverage begins to thin out like mad. I feel for anyone in the hinterland either with no TV or limited media coverage TV and no newspapers to read. Their ability to get into town and buy a magazine like Time is also limited by their daily tasks and of course their budget. Magazines are down right expensive these days. When they do finally find out what happened, they are going to be downright “had” and mortified about their vote. this is a great way to stop people from exercising their civic duty. Regaining their faith in this country’s institutions and values is going to be one very hard stretch.

RE: Amazon and unfair competition. Yes, I suppose there’s truth to that, though I doubt it’s to the degree Walmart does it. They squeeze their suppliers out of business! I do believe that the post office is not losing money on Amazon. I’ve heard they don’t but haven’t confirmed it. Why isn’t Trump criticizing Walmart? Hmmmmm…. 😉

Local retailers aren’t ONLY going out of business due to unfair competition. Heck, Amazon’s not always the cheapest but I buy from them because it’s convenient, I can do it on my coffee break, and I can have it in 2 days. It’s a brilliant model and I shop there even though I’d rather be shopping locally because they’ve made it so easy! I hate taking the time to go shopping. When I shop local, I try to shop small. It costs more but it supports local businesses.

Big box stores and local stores need to fine a new way to deliver perceived value in a modern era. If they don’t innovate, they fold. When I go to Sears it’s for tools – everything else is outdated or low quality junk. When I go to JC Penney it’s to return something from LandsEnd.

Gato, good to hear that your vision is getting better after surgery. Hope it continues and here is wishing you a speedy recovery. You are so right about the Amazon deal. Somebody must be feeling very powerful right now for being able to influence the markets by just tweeting and have the minions do his bidding. A good portion of these Fortune 500 companies benefit from government welfare. Only the ones that displease “our majesty” get called on the carpet. I feel daily we are on the edge of a cliff racing toward the abyss. I do not understand how people could have been so irresponsible with this country, by basically handing it over to chaos.

(Fox has been “reaching” this household for quite a while but, for the last couple of years, it hasn’t been watched.) Not so easy when you live in an area with only one or two stations available, I understand. All the more reason to GET OUT THE VOTE, STARTING THIS NOVEMBER.

  34. I’m still here, too! Had some eye surgery a couple of weeks ago, and it takes a while to get vision back. (It works, but it’s slow!) I think we’re all sick of dealing with the stupidity of President Spanky, too, frankly… But the March for Our Lives was an inspiration, for sure.

So, just to get us all paranoid again, I was wondering why anybody would give a flying freak about what he says about Amazon’s “using” the USPS as their “delivery boy.” But today I see that Amazon’s stock has gone down by about 75 points. Whaaa….,?? And then I got it. Jeff Bezos is top player at Amazon AND The Washington Post. Both Murdoch (Fox) and Sterling Broadcasting (lots of local news stations) are perfectly happy to take a serious swipe at both, and here’s how they do it: They plant a bunch of “scary stuff” on Fox and their other outlets about how Amazon is “costing American jobs” and any other BS they can think of. Twittermouth sees it, and shortly thereafter starts parroting whatever they said – gives him something to rant about other than Stormy Daniels, Russia, or his miserable performance, if he even gives it that much thought. Then, the big money guys dump a bunch of their shares in Amazon, all at once (as planned); the stock takes a (most likely temporary) dive. Trump feels like a big shot; people get nervous; the Wall Street pundits talk about it hysterically for about 24 hours… And, after the Murdochs and the Sterlings have made their point, they buy back their stock at the lower value, and we’re all ready for Round Number Innumerable of this Con Game.

If this seems implausible, just take a look at the time line between what Fox decides to rant about, and how long afterwards it is “suddenly” Twitter Central. And the fact that all the newscasters on every one of Sterling’s stations was given the identical “script” to read literally simultaneously. And how Fox “headliners” just seem to keep finding their way into the “Administration”…

We are being SO PLAYED, by absolute Masters of Deception.

So be pissed off, Porch Sitters – we dam well ought to be. It’s one of the great advantages of being a cranky old lady – nobody’s very surprised any more! (I myself am quite enjoying being the Nastiest Girl In The Room, until a few moments later, when all my Sisters realize they are, too.)

she’s had to walk by friends lying in their own blood,
    her teacher bleeding out,

He claims that all the things the politicians on the Hill want to vote for regarding gun control are A-OK with the NRA, but for some reason so many Americans, voters and non-voters alike, do not know that. Hence all the hellish screeching from such people whenever the subject of gun control comes up. Would anybody be surprised if I said I doubt his words? the NRA is impossibly good at getting out the word on their agenda. Hence, if background check upgrades, new age limits on gun purchases and what all were actually on their agenda, how come hardly anyone has ever heard of this? Furthermore, with this agenda why would Wayne waste his time telling horror fabrications at places like CPAC? Or is he just nuts like we all suspect?

  48. Thank you for yet another brilliant “letter to the sane”.

    @kayT:
And right after the Oklahoma bombing, tight regulations were put into place to make it very hard to purchase the used chemicals without leaving a trail.
After 9/11 much tighter safety protocols were put in place to prevent people with knives enter a cockpit.
These days (I’m told) air travellers have to take off their shoes before boarding a plane, because some nutter tried to blow up a plane with a shoe bomb.
So WHY are there no tighter regulations now on these deadly weapons, after só many mass shootings at schools, at churches, at festivals.
I’ll tell you why: because MANY politicians have been corrupted, bought and paid for, by the weapons industry, through the NRA.

  49. Just do what we did in Australia and ban guns. Farmers might have a need for a .22 rifle. Other gun owners are licensed and guns can only used on a firing range. If you are licensed to own a gun, they have to have the firing mechanism in a safe, seperate from the gun. Your gun laws are to poor, no wonder you are having problems.
No killing of school kids and other members of the public, no killing of native animals, they should be protected anyway.
Do what educated countries do and ban guns in public hands. Buy back guns in the community.
Americans must be amazed when they come to Australia! Nobody, except a few criminals, have guns. I don’t need a gun because my neighbour has one. My neighbour doesn’t have one! Neither does anybody here in our town. I don’t need a dog to bark louder than my neighbour, I just tell him. He won’t take umbridge and shoot me.
Move out of the third world America, ban all guns, not just assault rifles. Stop selling the things to kids, dopes and members of the general public.
Anyway, lower the flag and keep praying. Or do something.
The NRA should be deregistered. Is your president strong enough?

  53. Found your blog via a Facebook post. Very, very good. As an Englishman (you know, gun control, only one school mass shooting ever) I’m both dismayed and angry at what’s happening in the USA and have been posting often in the newsfeeds and, inevitably, getting labelled as “libtard” (and other names). “Libtard”? Well, Lib yes – I support the Liberal Democrat party, which is actually pretty centrist with a slight hint of left, so I wear the “Lib” tag with pride. No doubt who I’d vote for in the USA. “tard”? Hmm, a degree from Cambridge University would say otherwise!
After all that I really can’t add anything to the debate! Just thought I’d say “thanks”.

While your handing out gifts from OZ, please give the orange-ass-muncher a pair of red shoes so he can click them together and return home where he can once again sit and masturbate to pictures of himself while tweeting from his porcelain throne. Oh wait, he does that here too. But at least if he were there he wouldn’t be able to convince so many white supremacists here that his alternate facts and alternate reality are actually any kind of truth.

Laughter is the best medicine. It can’t cure the malaise that has settled over all of us in Trumpville but it helps. Maybe someone will write “Trumpville, the Musical” and we can look back on this time and be grateful we survived.

  79. Oh Ladies I’ve missed you so much — I understand, I’m sick to death of all that has been going on the past couple of years, too, and I’d love to just go to bed and pull the covers over my head. But that would leave our precious world and our precious children in the care of these idiots. Margaret, we need you like we’ve never needed you before — and that you rose up and created two of these wonders in one week left me wreathed in smiles this morning. It was like having coffee with family. Thank you Thank you!

P.S. I lived on a farm in Iowa and sometimes we had a first calf heifer in trouble and had to call old Doc Anderson and then the three young upstart vets who took over, Jim and Jim and Jim come out to pull calves. Mageen in old Virginny has it just exactly right — except she forgot the hardware — the jack-like tool to provide the tension!

When you’re not active writing your blog, I feel as though there’s a large dose
of sanity missing in our national discourse. Please keep sending us your incisive and witty observations. We need you and Margaret to keep us focused on what’s broken and how to make our government better.

Daily I am appalled by the Orange Mussolini, but right now I am energized by the smarts of these FL school kids who, despite conspiracy theorists to the contrary, are not bots or pawns of the Left. They are kids who want to go to school in safety. Since when is that not an American Ideal?

  91. “There is no stupidity like Trump stupidity…”

There are actually three levels of stupid:

    3. “Is this the 3rd quarter of the hockey game?”

    2. “Why can you look directly at the moon but not the sun?”

Now that I think about it, Mr. LePew did sound – and look – kind of painfully constipated as he tried to enunciate that “… only thing that can stop a bad guy, et cetera…” line, at that last televised whatever-it-was. Could your scenario possibly have been going on behind the podium? Just wondering…

  94. I mostly agree with you and I am relieved to see that you understand NRA does not represent all gun owners. But I can’t buy the idea that people won’t find ways to kill people if we ban guns. Think Oklahoma City (bombs built of readily available supplies) and 9/11 (airplanes). Sadly people who want other people dead will find a way. Why not try to figure out why these people are so angry? I would like to see that.

  95. How hard? Well, right now I am thinking of the way Dr. Pol, the TV vet, pulls a calf out of a cow in trouble with birthing. It involves chains, tension and several people pulling. It is replete with amniotic fluid, blood and some other stuff I will not mention here plus a lot of noise from the cow. Does that sound about right for the Golden Gibbon and LaPierre?
