The scariest thing about Halloween was the Jack O’ Lantern in the Oval Office or maybe it was the White Sheets. #DumpTrump

helen-mug1 FROM HELEN:

Margaret, what the hell is happening? Nazi’s are fine people. Russia poked me on Facebook. The Real Housewives of Trump Tower are fighting over who’s the real First Lady. And now the Civil War wasn’t about slavery. Has everyone gone insane?

We had an opportunity to have an honest conversation about racism and once again Trump screwed it up. Those football players are kneeling for a reason and it has nothing to do with the flag. And then we had an opportunity to have an honest conversation about gun violence and once again the Republican Party made it about… turned it into… changed the topic to… wait a minute. They didn’t do anything. They just left it hanging out there. It’s just bat shit crazy if you ask me.

And now we are debating the civil war? Again? I know for damn sure we had that conversation a long time ago and it ended with freeing the slaves and a dead president. Compromise? John Kelly says it was about lack of compromise? General Kelly, with all due respect, what was the acceptable compromise? The South could keep the slaves, but they had to give them weekends off? My God is anyone in the  Trump White House not a racist? They’ve got more white sheets than a Motel 6 in Pulaski, Tennessee.

The other day I saw John Kasich on TV talking about his dissatisfaction with the Republican Party and I thought maybe we could find something to agree upon. But then he said that he had no idea what Democrats stood for and I was reminded that Kasich is still an asshat.

Mr. Kasich here is what Democrats stand for.  It’s not a secret.

  • Affordable healthcare for all.  Period.
  • Common sense gun control because you don’t need an assault rifle to kill a deer.
  • Immigration reform.
  • Equal pay for equal work.
  • A woman can be trusted to make her own healthcare decisions.
  • Sex education reduces unintended pregnancies.
  • Love is color blind and gender neutral.
  • Global warming is not a Chinese hoax even though Trump has more chins than a Chinese phone book.   (Was that racist or just a clever play on the word chin being Chen is the 5th most common Chinese surname?  Actually it was a joke about Trump being a fatass which has nothing to do with global warming unless you count the amount of gas Trump releases from his fat ass daily.  Surely there is a scientist who can tell us what harm that is causing.  You know what?  Never mind.  Just get us back into the damn Paris Climate Agreement.  That’s what I meant to say, really. )
  • Happy Holidays is a lovely thing to say to someone when you want them to have a Happy Holiday.
  • Every child should have access to a quality education.
  • College should be affordable.
  • Coal is stupid.  (see Chen reference above)
  • Slavery was bad.
  • Nazi’s are not fine people.
  • Trump is a moron. (Which makes Rex Tillerson an honorary Democrat)

I’m sure I’ve left a few things out, but I think that’s a pretty good list to start. And I imagine if you read the comments below, you’ll learn a few more things we Democrats stand for.

I think the real question is what do Republicans stand for?  Because it appears they stand for greed, racism and coal. I’m not sure if you know this, but Donald Trump Jr. tweets bullshit about as well as his father. Last night he tweeted out a picture of his adorable daughter with her Halloween candy. He commented that he was going to make her give half of it away to children who didn’t go out because it’s never to [sic] late to teach her about socialism.”  Now I don’t know about you, but where I come from a child giving away half of her candy to other kids is called sharing and it’s a very charitable thing to do.  But bless their hearts, the Trumps know nothing about charity.  Maybe it would be a better lesson to have her get 99% of the candy and just wait to see how long it takes for some of it to trickle down to the poor kids she hangs out with. Or better yet, have her pledge to give 25,000 pieces of it to a Gold Star Father and then forget to do it. Oh.  I know.  Teach her to take the candy from other children and then give it away herself so she can tell everyone how charitable she is and maybe take a tax deduction and then hide her tax returns.

When I was a little girl, if you ran into someone like Donald Trump or Donald Trump Jr. you would conclude that they were not right in the head. Now I have a feeling that little expression is no longer politically correct, but in this case, it is medically correct so I could stand by it. Instead, I’ll try not to offend anyone and just say that Donald Trump is not normal, and I don’t mean that in a good way.  He’s about 9 eggs short of a dozen.   A small fries shy of a Happy Meal.  A Saturday devoid of a weekend. He’s only got one oar in the water. If his brains were dynamite, he couldn’t blow his nose. So dumb he couldn’t pour piss out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel… Awe hell. The man’s an idiot and so is his son, Slow Donnie.

Might I remind all of you Republicans out there that your candidates insulted one another’s wives and compared penis size. And then you went and elected the disgusting one who admits to assaulting women. Last time I checked, Democrats didn’t nominate Harvey Weinstein.

I’m a little tired of everyone trying to make sense out of this President. He ain’t right in the head. I mean it really.

margaret-mug1 FROM MARGARET:

Helen, dear, I don’t want to take the chance of offending anyone so I’m donating to Goodwill my Robert E. Lee potholder I bought in Charleston in 1962. The color doesn’t go with my kitchen anymore anyway.

  12. As Bill Maher said a few weeks ago, “One of these things is not like the other.” What Franken did/may have done may not be appropriate, but it does not rise (lower?) to the level of a man in his 30s molesting 14 year olds!! There is a continuum of behavior, and if Franken should resign, then so should Moore, the moment he is (oh I hope not) elected. Rethuglican apologists for Moore (and the GOP in general) also seem to have a problem with the issue of consent. Just like they fulminated about “gay marriage” leading to people marrying their dogs (or in my case, my horse? LOL) Neither young teens nor dogs (nor horses!) have the real capacity to consent to such relationships.

  13. gato – wasn’t Al Franken’s comedy act a bit on the raunchy side to begin with? so what would you expect. I think we really need a conversation on sexual harassment. The difference between just crude joking and actual sexual intent. I worked in an office with 75-125 guys and 3 girls…the only single girl. Yes there were those who were joking/crude, those who would have run home if you had said yes, those who were very serious. And one boss who promised me a raise if I accommodated him. I was 18 – 22, the early ’60s. Yes it was uncomfortable but I also learned to say something to them. Most took the hint and stopped. I am not condoning their behavior. I do think you have to learn recognize the “bad” ones. Bosses and people (doctors, teachers, older etc) in authority are another thing. They should not be allowed to get away with it. If we accuse every man of bad behavior we are going to hurt our fight. From what I read Franken was kidding around but not serious. I understand men are visual but they need to learn that most women are not turned on by dick pics. or naked old men. Dems hold theirs accountable and republicans elect/hire/excuse theirs. I am just venting.

PS – I did not accommodate…a raise was $10 a month. I thought I was worth much than that!!!

    Peace.

  14. Agreed… Loathsome, and very, very conniving and dangerous… I doubt he even “thinks” about what he’s doing. It’s really animal survival instinct, as others have pointed out – a cornered “fear biter.” (Why ANYONE is hanging the future of their political lives, or that of their “Party,” on this kind of thing is beyond my comprehension…) But, combined with years of gerrymandering and voter suppression, and making sure that more and more Americans are poor, sick, and carrying weapons, it just might work…

This latest “sexual harassment” thing is, I’m sorry to say, a brilliant piece of vile machination – who would dare say “it doesn’t matter”? He knows what “his people” droll over: Abducted blonde teenagers stolen by dark, swarthy, foreigners and forced into being sex slaves; adorable orphaned kittens found in a dumpster; scrawny dogs chained to a tree… With starving puppies!

It is becoming more and more obvious that the primary “targets” of the fast-flying accusations these days are “liberal” Congresspersons and media hosts: Charlie Rose, Al Franken, Matt Lauer, Garrison Keillor (!) As for Franken, his primary “accuser” was co-hosting a UjSO show with him, and did plenty of her own flouncing, butt-patting, and smooching herself – and had just signed a book deal with Sterling Publishing. (Oh, surprise!) And who knows what Kellyanne Conway might have gotten herself up to over the last twenty years…

I was appalled to learn that a group of Democratic Congresswomen think it would be “best for the country” if Franken steps down. At a minimum, their timing sucks, frankly – just as good ol’ Roy Moore is running neck and neck for the Senate seat in Alabama. Does anyone think, for a moment, that Bible-banging mall-hound is going to “step down” if he – god forbid – is elected?

That’s why this particular side show is so effective: If Democrats don’t speak out, they’ll be accused of “not protecting women.” If they do, and are successful, they lose one of the few voices of sanity left in the Senate. And pretty soon we can expect women to come to work in something close to a burka, for their own “protection” – if they’re allowed to work at all.

Ask Mike Pence. It’s just not safe for any man to be alone with any woman, anywhere, other than his wife. And since men are currently obsessed with who gets into what room, things don’t look very promising.

  20. Ah, Cynthia… It is an absolute madhouse, is it not? But before we all sharpen up our pitchforks, or pack up our menfolk and puppies, and head out of the country, let’s just each DO ONE THING: CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES ATO THE US CONGRESS, ND TELL THEM YOU ARE APPALLED AT THIS WHOLE MESS, AND THAT YOU WILL VOTE ACCORDINGLY. Do this as many times as you can. Even if your Reps are already totally opposed to this travesty, the more voices they hear, the stronger their position.

Sadly, impeaching this nutball will accomplish not much of anything, and, IMHO, sets a dangerous precedent. Presidents should never be impeached for anything other than breaking the law – no matter how loathsome anyone finds them, or how despicable their hollow souls may be. This one is likely as not going to end his days, staring into some brass-plated mirror, somewhere, rocking back and forth, mumbling, “Fake news… failing media… no collusion…best president ever… Crooked Hilary… loser… people are saying…”

  41. Thanks for your post. As an Independent voter who has been a member of both parties, I have been frustrated by the lack of civility, lack of truth and lack of due diligence shown by the President. I am also frustrated by the ongoing rationalization by his party for his behavior. When he was elected, I said let’s give him a chance as his success will be ours and that is how this works. I did have low expectations which he has failed to achieve. After I made the above statement of hope, within days he appointed Steve Bannon as a Senior Advisor and that made a huge statement to me, that white supremacy and nationalism had a chair at the table.

The President consistently is more untruthful than he is not. It has been measured at 69% of the time, which is kind as it gives him credit for partial truths in the 31%. This is not news as Politifacts said he lied 70% of the time during the campaign and his five biographers and ghost writer for his biggest selling book all said Trump has a problem with the truth. Thomas Wells, an attorney who worked with Trump, wrote last June, 2016, that Trump lies “every day, even about things of no consequence.” Other leaders in the US and abroad do not trust this man and why would they? So, I keep it simple and do not believe a word he says as the odds are in my favor.

Then there is the demonization of everyone who dares criticize him or did things he did not do. Everything Obama or Bush did is “horrible” and every thing he will do will be “beautiful” or “make you happy.” But, it is the transactional, zero-sum game he plays with critics. He must crush them to make it alright in his mind. He rarely criticizes on issues or policies as he is not steeped in details. He prefers a mud fight. This lack of civility to people who have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods, civil rights, etc, is downright un-Presidential and un-Christian. It would not be confused with the right thing to do.

If this were not bad enough, almost every decision is made off rhetoric, not data. Our problems are too complex to solve them without knowing what caused them. Or, solving a problem that has been over-simplified or does not exist. Right now, the Department of Defense says not reacting to climate change is a threat to national security. If you take this one step further, then a President who ignores climate change, must also be a threat to national security. Thomas Friedman wrote an excellent piece about the holistic problems in Niger, which includes the impact climate change has had on desertification and causing farmers to invite in ISIS. This is what a President should consider.

The sad part about the last issue is the President does not show any desire to learn things. We have woeful staff shortages and he has a limited attention span. Michael Lewis has written about how Obama’s people made transition books and invited the Trump people in to meet. Department by department, very few took them up on this.

I am sorry for the long comment. I wanted to share the view of this Independent. We now need more Republican leaders to remember to whom they swore their oath – it is to the Constitution, not the party or this President. He needs to be censured and he may eventually need to be impeached, if what appears to be true about Russia, in fact is. That is what I believe.

    Keith

  80. Once again you ladies have got it correct. I’ve never been so ashamed of a sitting president (apologies to the previous 44) even Nixon wasn’t this bad. As for blue falcon Kelly, he deserves to have some stars removed for lying. I always thought that officers were supposed to be truthful and apologize if they made a grevious mistake. But racist misogynist Kelly refuses to apologize to a sitting United States Congresswoman when a video shows that he’s wrong. He lied. She wasn’t in Congress when the building funds were appropriated and he refuses to admit he’s wrong. And that empty-headed mouthpiece backs him. But then the entire White House is run by racist morons who should be nowhere near government. The Ancient Greeks had a group of female Goddesses the Furies who went after those who broke their oaths. In those times, an oath was a sacred bond. They were called by cursing the oath breaker(s). The Furies then tormented those unfortunates on Earth and into hell. Let the cursing begin!

  83. Great stuff – you’re helping me survive all this madness. But while I’m certain Trump should go, I start looking at Mike Pence. He just might be even scarier. What’s your take on Pence, Helen?

  103. Helen, you just made my day tolerable! On a day when we should have been focusing on Mueller’s progress, we were distracted by yet another pathetic immigrant who decided to just rent a truck and kill some people. Your message (hopefully) will get us on track on the issue that really needs to be talked about–far more Americans will die if we don’t deal with the ass in the White House. Thank you for keeping our priorities straight!
