Margaret, I am sorry I haven’t written more, but honestly, honey, I am just too tired. Sadly, it has nothing to do with my age and everything to do with my home. Don’t get me wrong, I love my home. Unfortunately, my home is located in Texas, and in this state, we liberals are all tired.
The rest of the country woke up last November and said, “Oh Shit. What just happened to this country?”. But all of us in Texas woke up and said, “Oh Shit. The rest of the country just became Texas.”
We’ve been dealing with race baiting, misogynistic, religious nut-jobs for decades. For us, the craziness started when George W. Bush became Governor in 1995. Now just imagine how tired you would be if the government had been trying to grab your pussy for 22 years. Even my husband gave up sooner than that, God rest his soul.
Yes, Texas has a long history of electing morons and, somehow, we’ve survived. But I warn the rest of you, if you think Texas is the benchmark you might want to consider these recent headlines:

Now any of those are reason enough for most Texans to not want to get out of bed, but that last one is particularly alarming. When Texas moved to defund Planned Parenthood our maternal mortality rate doubled. Doubled. Texas politicians are literally killing women. And you might not have heard this expression before, but it is becoming agonizingly clear – As Texas goes, so goes the nation.
Our President admitted on camera to molesting and assaulting women. That alone should have disqualified him to be anything in politics. But what I fear now is that his politics won’t just assault women, it will kill women. And for those of you hanging on to the hope that Ivanka is going make it all better, I offer you this headline:
The election of Donald Trump was alarming to the majority of voters because the majority of voters did not vote for him. And those that did, usually defended their vote by saying, “I like him because he speaks his mind.” Well I say, if your mind is full of shit, speaking your mind is akin to passing gas. There was a time when Texas got it right. We ushered in the great Ann Richards as Governor when her Republican opponent, Clayton Williams, joked, “Rape is kinda like the weather. If it’s inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”
If only jokes about assaulting women were still reason enough to lose an election…
I watch the news everyday waiting for a reporter to ask Sean Spicer if being President means Trump has been able to grab even more pussy. It hasn’t happened, but an old gal can dream.
Both Texas and the U.S. used to be great. In a few years, maybe we can elect someone who can make them great again. I mean it. Really.

Hey, Terri – And all… Been a while from here, I know. (Never spent so much time calling and emailing Congresspeople in my entire life…)
I am as sick and repulsed by this guy’s petulant outbursts as most everyone I know – but it’s not the “Trump supporters” who keep throwing this junk in our faces hour after hour. They’re not the ones giving his every petty rant minutes of on-air coverage, and paragraphs of print and cable “analysis”… It’s all of our activist groups and the media. AS LONG AS ANYTHING HE SAYS OR TWEETS GETS HYSTERICAL COVERAGE, HE’LL KEEP DOING IT. And why wouldn’t he? We’ve convinced him that whether he puts a piece of adhesive tape on the back of his tie, or refers to the “failing NY Times” for the umpteenth time, or discloses classified information to some foreign dignitary, it all gets the same reaction: “Trump Lashes Out,” or “Trump Strikes Back,” or “Koch Brothers Blindsided,” or the like.
All that’s needed is for the extent of the “coverage” to be something akin to “Trump tweets more of his paranoid ramblings once again this morning,” and then DROP IT. That’s certainly as “informed” as I feel I need to be.
Every time the media makes a big deal of his idiotic comments, his supporters get a double thrill (if they are aware of it): They love it that he keeps doing this crap, and they love it that it makes “the libtards” crazy.
No snake oil salesman can survive without an audience. We have to get up, turn around, walk away, and empty the hall.

I have totally lost patience with Trump supporters. When will they admit that they are supporting a pathological liar who is both incompetent and corrupt? He is crass and rude with a delusional self-regard and ego. Case closed. He is an international embarrassment who is destroying the image of our country around the world. I am not interested in hearing him whine about how unfair the media is. And I am tired of his supporters who follow that stupid and false line of thinking. What he is really saying is that facts don’t matter, anything that isn’t favorable to him is “fake news”, and he and his family are infallible. Results of those cases are not helping Trump but they are assisting the Constitution. Trump shoves the leader of another country out of his way in a photo op. Trump bags a session of a meeting of world leaders and sends his daughter in as a sub. Trump has now written and signed more Executive Orders than any predecessor after spending campaign time cussing out anyone who leads by Executive Order. Hey, Kate – I’m not sure exactly what got you going here, but the instant I read or hear the phrase “you people” it immediately signals to me that any rational thinking, or possibility for meaningful exchange of ideas, is gone. This, in my experience, is universally applicable, and also includes the labels “liberal elites,” “rednecks,” “Libtards,” “Rethuglicans,” and just about any blanket term used by anyone to describe any other entire group of people. I wouldn’t presume to know what you read, which news outlets you favor, whether or not you prefer Gulden’s to Dijon, like Chardonnay better than Dr. Pepper, or how you scored on your last psychiatric evaluation – unless you, yourself, had told me. And you have only the smallest idea of what any poster here reads, watches, or prefers, either – unless they’ve told you. This country currently has an occupant of the Oval Office who publicly declares, over and over again, that anything he finds unflattering is “fake,” that our system of government is “clumsy and awkward,” that our elections are usually “rigged,” that “his people” should beat up protesters, and that law enforcement shouldn’t be “too nice” to “thugs,” among any number of other things that come from behind his
podium or from his ceaseless twitter machine. A country that insists that people who don’t like the way things are going should just get out – or where they are actively removed – is a dictatorship, not a democracy. Thought we all knew that…

Some of you may remember we are helping care for our now four year old grand daughter for four years in June. Doctors told us that as a mycroencelific she would be up to three years behind others her age. They were wrong. She can read, she knows the number of Danicka Patrick’s race car and she knows the main cloud types. This will be her second year of pre- school. She will have exploratory surgery on Aug 2. No one told her, but she figured it out.
When in doubt she asks me, because she thinks I will tell her the truth. She is thinking about God and Heaven now.

I wallowed in some bitterness during Obama and Hillary’s failed Middle East policy, but I was not where you are. I had suggested using the Women’s March as an opening as the Tea Party became. So far, nothing has happened because they are too far left to attract mainstream voters.
People mocked me when I wrote the Tea Party was a grass roots movement which would create problems for Democrats and later Republicans, but once again I was right and you were wrong. Trump may be a buffoon sometimes, but your side has lost state and local representatives in elections not involving Trump. Why are heartland people not buying your brand?
Republicans have serious problems. After promising to change Obama Care, for example their resolve is being proven a pack of lies. Obama was a buffer letting them promise anything, if only they had the White House. Now that they have a Republican president, at least in name, they have exposed themselves as the liars they have been since ObamaCare.
Your side has an opportunity which you are squandering in self pity and bitterness.
The left has a problem, and the most popular reaction is not trying to understand what went wrong. The left is stewing in its own bitterness.

Liz Warren has already stood up in the Senate and called for single payer. What the Rethugs refuse to realize is that they are paving the way for it.The town hall meetings for the congress critters in their home areas have gotten even more dynamic – to be tactful. One congress critter was greeted by a room full of people yelling that he should vote no on Trump Care and finally the congress critter ran away. This reminds me of how the Catastrophic Care Act of many decades ago went down the tubes. The people most impacted by it beat on the official cars of people like Dam Rostenkowski and made life miserable for anyone on the Hill that backed the CCA. Rostenkowski went to jail of misuse of certain funds (franking privileges) and the CCA went down the tubes. The poor and middle class folks most impacted by the loss of their coverage under the ACA know something the Rethugs don’t. Health care is a right, not a product like a car or a refrigerator. What is it about Rethugs and rights, as in voting?

Greetings, Cynthia! Well, another way to look at it is this: POTUS45’s most solid core finally gains eyesight etc. and get a really good look at him and his lies and they rise up. What’s so different or significant about that? They would be the most avid because it was their faith that was broken. And what makes 3% so dangerous? They are the ones who are so well armed. I know my suggestion to just sit back and watch the cookie crumble in prime time world wide sounds crazy, but hey, I don’t own Trump. The 3% do. Its all on them. They made him. They can break him. Or, and I must admit this next surmise is worthy of debate, Trump takes his own sorry self down via his mouth and his madly tweeting fingers. He has given up on so many things he has started: airlines, steaks, vodka, you name it. He has proven that he can just drop everything on the victims and walk away. He has already said that the job is too hard (it’s a 24 – 7 gig and he hates working past 5 PM) and he never really envisioned himself as President anyway. His presidency was a pure fluke. Which is why he is doing so damn badly. Also, he is someone who thinks very often and quite readily that nothing is ever good enough for him, people, especially. Sound sad doesn’t it. Look how he treats even his innermost circle int eh White House. And therapy will not help. Hermitage is the most apt future for him.

One of Trump’s lawyers (some day when I have time I will put them in alpha order) was on Meet the Press this morning trying to prove Trump’s assertions on something. Having seen and heard so many of Trump’s different stories on the FBI guy’s firing, and then be inflicted with the babble this lawyer was trying to sell, I had no idea what the bleep he was talking about and I bet pocket lint that he didn’t either! Chuck Todd – bless this heart – was giving this guy a hard time. Trump’s polls are still in the low 30’s whereas Trump His Own Self swears they are higher. Apropos of all the poll stuff, the Washington Post carried a whopping amount of column inches in the Sunday edition about how rural voters view the world. Apparently anyone who doesn’t live in the country just might not count as “people” with these voters. For one thing, non-rural voters are viewed as inhumane and don’t support or take care of their neighbors. Yes, I know there are tons of material available to disprove that view but it still won”t go down as gospel with that crowd. All I can say is that isolation is a total bummer!

May I suggest that the reason Little Lord Cheese Puff is still there is because a number of people are benefitting enormously from his continued presence, in terms of both power and money. As long as he’s outrageous enough, and distracting enough, to remain the focus of the majority of our attention, that’s where he will stay – and his capacity and intent to continue to do both those things seem bottomless…
HOWEVER, I am reminded of that old chestnut, “Be careful of what you ask for.” The magnitude of his grandiosity and “unpredictability” seem to be expanding at an exponential rate beyond even what at least some of his “handlers” might have anticipated. (Putin offering transcripts of a closed White House meeting to the US Congress, “if the White House approves”…??!! Really? And apparently not even worrying about doing so…?? REALLY??)
Let’s all remember, even as we’re reeling from one ludicrous absurdity after another, that members of Congress are working diligently and ceaselessly to nail down gerrymandering, open up National Parks for potential “use,” gutting health care, roll back financial regulations, consumer protection, workers’ rights, and all their other little fun projects.
When the “Possible Impeachable Offense” show is over, however and whenever it ends, the dust will settle… We’ll look around, see what happened while we weren’t paying attention, and wonder whatever happened to our principles, our beliefs, our traditions, and our very souls.

Hi, Cynthia – In my personal experience, anything that knocks my ego down a peg or two I consider a blessing… However, I am not Little Lord Cheese Puff, and I have learned that “I” am not solely my ego. (It’s taken me quite a lot to get the hang of that, and I’m certainly not perfect at it, by any means! But at least, after decades and plenty of wise guidance, I have an idea of the concept…)
I have no idea what LLCP would do should he be removed from office, but, based on the behavior he’s so consistently displays in public, so far, it’s hard to imagine that he would ever consider ANYTHING to be his fault. I’m guessing we’d likely hear the usual litany of how “unfairly” he was treated, how he had every “right” to do whatever he did, and probably how it had always been his intention to do it, anyway… You know – all the same stuff we hear from him, about everything, day after day.
Let’s keep in mind that this is the guy who bragged, during his campaign, that he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone, and he still wouldn’t lose a vote. As Maya Angelou so wisely asked, “When someone tells you who they are, why don’t you believe them?”
I sincerely hope that, should that removal look inevitable, someone will have the good sense to keep him away from the nuclear codes… I wish I were joking about that; I’m not. (Sadly, I’m not counting on any current GOP “leaders” to step up to that plate,..)
BTW, “inevitable” is looking more and more unlikely, every hour that we accept the idea that this behavior is just “unique,” “different,” or a matter of “personal style.” I’m not willing to accept rampant narcissism as any of the previous.
I hope you don’t mind my indulging in the Amateur Shrink Hour; I don’t even play a psychiatrist on TV, but evidently I’m okay with doing it here!

Alrighty, Porch Sitters – Here’s a suggestion from a friend on Facebook:
Go to the US Department of Justice website at justice.gov. Click on “Contact” at the right end of the header bar. A page saying “Contact US Form” will appear. Fill in your name & email address where requested. Scroll down the “Topics” drop-down to “Message to the Assistant Attorney General.” (Don’t bother with the actual AG for any number of reasons, the most courteous being that he has “recused” himself from anything to do with the Russia investigations.)
And then, as politely as you can manage, urge the DOJ to appoint an independent special investigator to pursue any “possible” ties between the current Executive and Legislative branches of the US government and any foreign government. The DOJ needs to hear a LOT of public outrage about this – we cannot let them brush this aside as “not important,” “fake news,” and whatever other BS they will continue to put out.
We can also brace ourselves for all kinds of badmouthing about “not supporting the president” while Little Lord Cheese Puff is wandering around the globe, having his picture taken with as many “famous people” as possible.
Tell all your friends, too, and get all over social media. PERSIST! Massive public outrage is the only thing that has a chance of getting through to these people…

Kate, really? You certainly do have a helluva low bar! Now my dad was a terrific judge of character in men. He had to be. He was his local area’s best athlete in decades. He did everything from individual to team sports. And he spent some of the best years of his life in a locker room. His behavior in and out of the locker room had to be the best or all is hard work as an athletic champion should amount to zip. He came from a long line of people of stalwart character. Even know what that means, Kate? He ended up “smelling” an untrustworthy sort coming up the front walk even before there was a knock on the door. And he knew how to handle them. What insults woman also insults men, especially the one male mouth doing all the talking. This is what a lot of people don’t get, including the big mouth. There is a lot about Trump that deeply, deeply concerns people even in his own party and none of the characteristics he displays are not new. He has already shown his historical illiteracy. Even his Biblical illiteracy. Remember “Two Collasions”? And in front of a Biblical crowd. I could certainly go on with an even longer list but if those two items don’t make the point, then forget it. For someone from U/Penn’s business school, Tump has the IQ of bean dip. And he really, really, really proved that he will lick a steak knife with his dismissal and prior and current treatment of Comey. The smoke around that dismissal is so thick and unrelenting that there has to be a helluva fire feeding it. And, Kate, you of all people should know the definition of unforgivable.

Hi, “Kate” – Just want to bring you up to speed here… There’s so much more to complain about these days! Every day brings an exciting new opportunity: Everything that’s wrong with “digital catapults” on aircraft carriers; explaining to economists what “prime the pump” means (a phrase that he claims to have “come up with” just a few days ago); threatening witnesses at a Congressional hearing; contradicting his own spokespeople; going to war with the head of the FBI (almost never a smart idea, far as I understand, but I could be wrong)… And that’s just this week! Wow. In the light of all this, bragging about mauling women seems like Amateur Hour, doesn’t it? Gotta agree with you on that one. It all adds up to a whole new definition of what makes a country “great”…
And you’re certainly right that this guy will “go down in history”… Hopefully, the “going down” will happen sooner, rather than later. No one deserves it more.

Wow, women are really nasty here and complaining that our president at one time in his life was talking to men about women,and one of the men decided to let the whole world know what he said(who knows what the other men were saying)and some women got their panties in a wad over it. Ever been in a locker room of men? Heck, ever been in a locker room with women?
Women can be nastier than any men, but somehow President Trump’s remark is the only one that liberal women are zeroing in on and obsessing about You all sound like a bunch of clucking hens angry that the rooster came into the roost and started changing things. President Trump will go down as the best president this country has ever had. If you women could get what you want, our country would not be recognizable in a few years under another president like Obama. But keep telling yourselves you are morally superior to those of us who voted for President Trump. Maybe you will learn, but it’s highly unlikely.

Hi, Mageen, and all – Apparently, Little Lord Cheese Puff was under the impression that he could summarily “fire” the 6’8″ head of the FBI – on the flimsiest of “excuses” – and nobody would mind… SURPRISE!! And Sessions and Rosenstein, who encouraged him to do so, knew that LLCP would take most of the heat. Trump rarely seems to have any idea what he’s doing, but I’ll bet they did. All anyone has to do is to tell LLCP that someone doesn’t like him, and they’re toast. “SAD!”

Trump apparently cannot shake off The Apprentice thing. He keeps firing people such as prosecutors and thinks nothing of it. Hey, prosecutors are lawyers and they are a dime a dozen in D.C. And then he fired the head of the FBI who was investigating the collusion/collision of the Trump campaign with the Russians. Plug pulled. Comey gone. Second in command now temporarily in command. Trump’s skin is still not saved. Comey is a free agent! He can say what he likes, where and when he likes. He can write a book, sell it to Hollywood for a movie. He can even hire himself out to another country.
No worries, though. Trump always has his bags packed.

I can’t stand to look or listen, either… I’m even starting to have a hard time with the late-night parodies – and I do love me some Colbert and John Oliver, for sure! We need ’em, and I’m glad those who are doing them, are doing them. But just the constant exposure to lies, “fake news,” and “alternate facts” gives them a validity they don’t deserve. We get numb…
HOWEVER… We must work tirelessly to make every effort to insure that our three-branch government remains intact, and is able to exercise its powers, despite all efforts to disembowel and twist it to better serve the particular ends of the plutocrats. It is “cumbersome” for a damned good reason.
A MILITARY CANNOT FUNCTION IF IT’S UNRULY.
A DICTATORSHIP CANNOT DICTATE IF IT’S UNRULY.
A CORPORATION CAN RARELY FUNCTION WHEN IT’S UNRULY.
A DEMOCRACY MUST BE UNRULY – A LOT.
And that, dammit, is why running a democracy is nothing like running a business. (I can hardly enumerate the number of times I’ve had this discussion with my beloved husband…) Trump doesn’t get that, and so far has shown no inclination to “get it.”
I am truly alarmed to learn that ten states are working on, or have enacted, legislation to limit “protests,” for all kinds of reasons – from “defacing critical infrastructure” (no more taping up those signs on the oil tanks, kids) to impeding traffic flow. And these apply not only to the protestors themselves, but to any “conspiring organization” who supports or organizes them. Not sure if these penalties apply to all supporters of such organizations, or just the organization itself. So… If you give money to Moveon, Swing Left, or OFA, you could possibly be arrested, levied an enormous fine, and spend a few years in the slammer… This is what’s in the works. In Oklahoma, such legislation was apparently just been put immediately into effect by Governor Fallin, due to what she, and her legislature, consider an “emergency.” In every manifestation, the goal is to intimidate people, cost protesting organizations a hell of a lot of money, and tie everybody up in court for an indeterminate amount of time.
Sounding more and more like what we imagine life to be like in North Korea, doesn’t it?
This is not how I imagined I’d have to be spending my “golden years”… Maybe I won’t have to spend ALL of them on this crap…!

What’s becoming more and more clear to me is that IT IS A MISTAKE TO FOCUS SO INTENTLY ON “THE PRESIDENT.” (I hope all will forgive me for what is likely to be an excessive use of all caps here…) Yes, he’s a source of constant embarrassment and revulsion (“I’m the President! Can you believe it?”), but HE’S JUST THE FRONT MAN HERE.
He has given no evidence whatsoever of any core principles, any sound reasoning, or any concern for the nation outside of T-Towers and Mal-A-Dapted. He seems willing to say anything, do anything, and sign anything, as long as he gets his picture taken sitting at the Big Boy Desk surrounded by Adoring Famous People. (Even Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent are apparently “famous” enough…)
And this, IMO, is precisely because he is so currently “useful” to those currently running the zombie version of the Party Formerly Known as Republicans. HE’S THE IRON PYRATE-PLATED SHINY OBJECT THAT NONE OF US CAN RESIST – he’s the multi-vehicle accident by the side of the road that makes us ashamed of ourselves that we want to slow down to count the bodies, and we do anyway…
The press, ALL of it, reacts to his mindless tweets with the enthusiasm of a toddler who can’t stop playing peek-a-boo, over and over and over again… I’m so sick of reading that so-and-so “slams” somebody over something, or “rips,” or “blasts,” or even “throws shade” about something, when ninety percent of it is more accurately “whining,” or “complaining” or something equally without power or meaning.
It doesn’t mean that any of these things should be ignored, but they certainly aren’t “news” in any way, shape, or form. What’s NEWS, again IMHO, is that the Keystone Pipeline is still being protested, everything that’s been said recently about the ridiculous “wall” is absolutely untrue, that the agency in charge of dealing with the opioid pandemic is being almost completely gutted, that the status of National Parks is going to be “reviewed,,” and that non-citizens with no criminal record whatsoever are being deported for driving with a malfunctioning tail light…
We MUST keep focused on local races for the House and Senate, tedious and boring as those can be. This is grunt work, no doubt about it, but it’s the only thing that has a chance of working.
It’s hard for me to believe that this “head of state” has not been removed from office for any number of things he’s already done, allowed to be done, or is trying to do – but he hasn’t. What I would like to believe doesn’t matter; the truth is what matters. And the truth is that it’s just as he said: He could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and none of his supporters would care.
But the real demons are all those “supporters” IN GOVERNMENT, and especially IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, who SAY they’re “outraged,” who say “this president has a unique style,” or even – curse them – that we should “give him a chance” to “grow into the job.” THAT’S THE LAST THING THEY WANT; THEY LIKE HIM JUST THE WAY HE IS – AND THAT’S THE ONLY REASON HE IS STILL IN OFFICE. (Sounding like a broken record here, but does anyone really think he’d still be tweeting if it was a problem for Ryan, McTurtle, and the rest…? Do we? Really…? i DON’T.)
This is going to be a long and tedious struggle. I’m all for ranting (obviously!), but we’ve got to be absolutely relentless with showing up, making those calls, and voicing our objections, especially to our local representatives.
As the old saying goes, “How do you eat an elephant…? One bite at a time.” This is one hell of a big ol’ elephant – but we can all chew, can’t we?

Always good to get your point of view (and I completely agree). This is a very disheartening time for our country. Facts don’t matter, truth doesn’t matter, lying doesn’t matter. It’s impossible to deal with people who won’t even acknowledge the reality of what they are doing. Trump told the Prime Minister of Australia that they have better health care than us! They have government sponsored single payer healthcare. Trump doesn’t even know what he’s saying. I hope the midterm elections will change things, but they seem such a long way off. Meanwhile, we have to sit and watch the Trump family enrich themselves while we are forced to endure the shame of having him as president.

He was an honorable man, who loved this country, and governed with a steady hand, and compassion. There wasn’t a major 9/11 attack during his watch, and he gave the order to send to Hell the mastermind of the 9/11 attack!

HI, Mageen, and all – I’d say “Good morning,” but goodness is probably on the endless list of “pre-existing conditions” that the “healthcare” package just passed by the House would allow States to declare uninsurable.
What a travesty. First of all, it is unthinkable that, in 2017, this country is even debating whether or not sick people should be able to get medical treatment. WTF is the POINT of all our wonderful research and innovation if great numbers of the people who need these miracles can’t afford them?
I live in CT, where our Senators, Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, have long been two of the most vigorous and outspoken opponents of this obscenity. So not much persuasion required around here. So… I will contact every friend, relative, and acquaintance I can think of, who lives in any State whose Senators might be leaning toward confirming this abomination, and BEG them to object, if they are so inclined – and to urge all of THEIR friends to do the same. Every dam voice matters here.
I love your confidence, and pray it is well-founded. But, while I’m hanging on to that, I’m also going to be on the phone, and on the internet… The nutcases, starting with the Nutcase-In-Chief, know that if you say something loud enough, enough times, people will believe it.
It works for them; let’s do everything we can to make it work for us.

Porchites! The Trumpcare package from the House has just been sent to the Senate who are waiting for it with bared fangs. As it stands now, that package hasn’t a ghost of a chance of approval by the Senate. With only a difference of two votes between the D’s and the R’s in the Senate, McTurtle absolutely cannot let anyone touch this proposed legislature without giving it a thorough whack job inasmuch as there a R’s in his caucus who just don’t like it. They are up for re-election next time around. The House jive of giving the states full control over whether or not to offer coverage for pre-existing conditions is a bullet where it really hurts! I am going to watch and see how close the final package comes out to being Obamacare redux, and by a Republican controlled Senate! Or lightening may even strike in the oddest places at the darnedest times and we get single payer!

Hi Helen and Margaret! Thanks for posting! I feel your pain Helen. I feel like Texas is such a missed opportunity. I lived in Texas once upon a time, my husband and I made lasting friendships there. Texas is a story in contrasts. The state seems to have some kind of split personality. The ignorance in some areas is so great, you wonder how they got to that point. But then you have Austin, it feels there like you are in a different state when you are in Austin. What can I say, Texas’ mess is now our country’s mess. I agree.
What concerns me more than anything is the EPA and what is being done to it. I am going to be missing clean air especially. I remember the days of thick smog, with the haze being so visible and the air so thick ,you could cut it with a knife. Those days may be back soon with the new EPA, which should be renamed Environment Destroying Agency (EDA) for short. Our new government is rolling back or is intent on rolling back all the gains of clean air and clean water regulations of the past few decades. I cannot believe people could be so dumb. What kind of legacy are we going to leave our children?

Gerrymandering is rampant everywhere; healthcare, women’s rights, equal pay, invasions of privacy, taxes, and an endless list of other things hit us all – to say “nothing” of continuing to poke North Korea in the eye with a sharp stick… (HTG, I think this idiot would literally start a nuclear war to keep anyone from seeing his bloody tax returns…)
All that said, we have some very “blue” friends who moved from CT to Austin a couple of years ago (lured by grandkids), and they love it. Don’t know how they manage it, frankly – although Austin seems to be an island of “liberals” in a sea of regression.

Well, we don’t “KNOW’ yet exactly how close the ties are between the Tweeter of the Free World and his Russian buddies, but we don’t really “know” either that the stench of dog poop is coming from the pile that was just deposited on our front porch by the Great Dane, do we…? In both cases, however, we can take a pretty good guess.
Of the endless onslaught of things about this particular family that are annoying, possibly criminal, arrogant, thoughtless, tasteless, ill-considered, sloppily-done, and hugely embarrassing, I think what may irritate me the most is their obvious unwillingness to alter ONE SINGLE THING about their “lifestyle” in light of the monumental privilege and power their “patriarch” has so foolishly been given. (I know I’ve whined about this before.)
Of course, their doing so, as you’ve stated, now costs all of us a ridiculous amount of money – but I doubt they’ve ever paid their own tabs, anywhere, ever, so nothing new there. What IS new is that this country is now being sold, literally, to the highest bidders, and every principle which so many of us believe makes us “Americans” is being tossed into the stinking “Drumpster.”

Texas was one of the first states to pass the Equal Rights Amendment. Just need 3 more. It hasn’t always been this screwed up. The liberals and progressives gave up with Tom Delay’s gerrymandered districts.

We lived in Texas from 1965 to 1974 and loved it; it wasn’t perfect but it was impressive and the friendships savored remain even if they are gone or no longer close. I would be horrified to live there now . under just the conditions you describe and I don’t suppose I can hang on ’til it rights itself again. But we have friends in Tx. that believe as you do in terms of the governor, the laws and some of these morons who voted for the Moron in Chief…so hang in there, we will survive. (Sounds like the name of a good song, doesn’t it?)

Trump is worse than the average woman abuser. He is a traitor to the United States of America. He and his campaign willingly colaborated with a hostile power, Russia, to cheat, lie and steal to win the election. Traitor trump is cheating the US taxpayer every day. His vacations alone cost us millions of dollars that should be spent on hungry children, schools, crumbling infrastructure, the list is all too long. He and his corrupt administration, the most corrupt in modern time, must be replaced. Immediately! Traitor trump is more than corrupt. He is insane.

I get up every morning looking for ONE good piece of news grasping for a reason to live another day (I am 83) or one small joke to get me to spew coffee on myself. A yankee who has lived in Texas for decades, these days you are my one bright hope and delight. There is never enough of your wit! Thank You Dear Lady for being my voice We suffer together! 🙂

So good to hear from you Helen, I missed you. I can’t believe ‘he who shall not be named” is president and I can’t believe his supporters think he’s doing a good job. Most days I feel like I’m in an episode of Twilight Zone. I keep saying to myself “he’ll be impeached”. It’s the only way to maintain my sanity!

After 19 years my wife and I sold our house on Texas and bought an RV. We got the hell out of Texas and are now residence of Oregon!!! I love Oregon! To see a Semator from my new state filibuster the new Supreme Court Justice… was AWESOME!!!

As another elder woman like yourselves, I am aware that the basic problem with our nation is the pure sexism that exists since our nation was founded. Definitely a carry0ver from Europe.
Yes, there are some men who are not sexist. Yes, there are some women who are not sexist. But as exceptions, they only prove the rule. Sexism Rules.
Based on the Trump presidential election results the majority Trump voters are sexist and truly believe women are dumb, not to be trusted, cannot make a real decision intelligently, and are merely on this earth to procreate, do as they are told, and serve men, or Man as in Mankind. Women have never been considered as part of ManKind. Is there a word that means both sexes? Puzzle for the day.

Not one 45 voter can explain to me why his boasts of sexually assaulting women did not deter the from voting for him. Not. One. They mutter something about “locker room talk,” which is baloney. The fact is, everyone who voted for that man gave their tacit approval to his behavior … and you’re right. It’s only going to get worse.
