You can even celebrate for no reason at all

Whatever your reason for celebrating the season, we hope your home is filled with good food, good friends, good health…

And a turkey big enough to feed 22!  I mean it. Really.

  1. Happy holidays! As a girl (17) named Margaret with a sister (15) named Helen and a best friend who shares not only your exact political views but also your enthusiasm, I appreciate this blog so much. Rock on!

I am also an aspiring blogger. There are only two silly posts on my blog right now since I am in the middle of exam season and swim season and have virtually no spare time, but I hope to get back to writing in a couple of weeks. Feel free to check it out at http://www.jerseygoddess.wordpress.com 🙂

  5. Merry Christmas! My family are not big turkey and dressing people so once at Thanksgiving is enough. One year maybe 15 years ago, I was testy when the dinner was discussed, hollering at both my sons and husband, FINE, if all you boys want is Cheeseburgers then Cheeseburgers it is. Thus was born our famous and quirky Cheeseburger Christmas. Fun while it lasted. Then my younger son died 3.5 years ago. All of the Cheeseburger fun was taken from our family. We did it the first and second year without him because it was our tradition and with lots of tears. Then came last year when I failed to take the meat out to thaw. I was weepy anyway, but then just broke down. My older son said that is fine, Mom, we can just go out somewhere! They talked and talked and looked on line. Who is open Christmas Day? We came up with IHOP! It was good! Each person got what they wanted. And, we had lots of laughs all year about our IHOP Christmas! Many other people there, makes you wonder. We are in Texas so tamales at Christmas are traditional. This year we had homemade, not by me, tortilla soup, tamales and all the trimmings on Christmas Eve. Best food I ever tasted. On Christmas Day, back to IHOP! A new tradition for our new life without our son has been born. He would have loved it! Merry Christmas, Helen and Margaret. You ladies give this old woman a laugh when you write me, taking me momentarily away from my broken heart. Thank you!

  7. Yes! Happy whatever floats your barge! Life is to short to be so damn picky! And as for the turkey and stuffing, it was the custom to do the stuffing as a completely separate dish as in Louisiana style it was always very we’ll seasoned. Seasonings need their own venue to do their work. Stuffing them inside a turkey didn’t really do the trick!

And pie, yes, pie, for dessert!

  11. It is almost 2016. Most people do not realize that turkey is one of the leading causes of food borne illnesses…particularly a turkey with stuffing. It is recommended that people cook the stuffing seperately, unless there is a safe way to confirm that the interior dressing reaches about 170 degrees… ? Thought you should know this…

  28. A turkey for 22 isn’t essential for our celebrations. A duck big enough for 8 is. It goes in at around 2:00 PM today.
Merry Christmas, Helen! Merry Christmas, Margaret! Happy Holidays of whatever stripe to anybody else reading this.
