If Today’s Republican Party Were to Come Up With A Good Idea, It Would Die of Loneliness

Margaret, normally we can find a little humor in everything. I think that’s why we’ve outlived almost everyone we know.  But the Republican Party has gotten to a place where even humor doesn’t make them palatable.

If I hear one more Republican deliver the talking point that America doesn’t need a continuation of Obama’s failed policies… Well I’d say I’d pull my hair out, but I want to hang on to what little I have left.

So with all humor aside…

Fact: the economy is amazingly robust with over 12 million new jobs created under Obama, a stock market that has more than doubled, and deficits that have been cut by two-thirds.

Fact: the Middle East has been screwed up for generations but it’s better off than when George Bush and Dick Cheney were calling the shots.

Fact: Obamacare has been remarkably successful  with health care inflation at the lowest rate in nearly 50 years.

Fact: Carly Fiorina failed at HP just as she failed to realize Planned Parenthood  is more popular than the NRA and the Republican Party.

Opinion: Gay weddings are actually quite well done and it’s been nice to see Americans excited about wedding ceremonies happening outside of a London cathedral .   And by the way, the Republican front runner has been married three times more than the Democrat.

Like it or not, Obama is a highly popular President as are Former Presidents Clinton and Carter.  Meanwhile  both Bush’s are as lost as last year’s Easter egg.

The Republicans can go on believing that we don’t want a continuation of Obama’s policies, but from where I sit that dog just don’t hunt.  Why in the hell are we trying to find a Democrat who can work with Republicans when even Republicans can’t work with Republicans.  That whole damn party is so useless if they actually could come up with a good idea, it would die of loneliness.

And I really, really wish CNN would point that out every time  they have another delusional Republican spokesperson on as an expert.  I mean it.  Really.

  7. Personally, I am from a Canadian family and spent a chunk of my life in that beautiful country. My people were working class white collar, managers and such. They had to work their way up to such positions. Decades ago, one took tests to move up the ladder. As I recall, my people were always a lot more relaxed when the Liberals were in office. They considered the Conservatives to be constantly depressing in every regard. Yes, money flowed freer with a Liberal government but it didn’t flood the country. Even Liberals believed that a nickel was still a nickel, but they were far less dramatically grumpy about it. The only real memory I have of the late Pierre Trudeau is the fact that he kept the emergency war powers in effect for years because the the actions of Quebec separatists. Folks did feel he overdid it somewhat. He also had a beautiful young wife and three sons in no time at all. Still trying to find a way to squeeze out some time for a visit north of the border. Will be great to see family again.

  8. Dearest Margaret and Helen, Would you please consider a column on Alabama’s DMV office restrictions in poor, black counties? See http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/10/hillary_clinton_alabama_visit_1.html . It is one more example of how “deaf” the Republicans are to real people. I did read that the state is experiencing budget problems, but closing the only office where you can get the ID needed to vote doesn’t seem to be the way to go. Thank you and I share your columns with family and friends across the country. Best wishes, Ellen G

  9. Love love love Margaret and Helen. With that being said, I am Canadian and read more for humor than anything else but…..just watch what happens to Canada now that a bunch of friggin idiots voted in justin trudeau (sorry I can’t even capitalize his name). Everyone votes for budget balancing and that is what we had. Budget balancing takes guts and cuts and now that our budget is balanced and Stephen Harper got us through one of the worst recessions, idiots have voted in a spend, spend, spender that will put our country right back to where his father took it to begin with. They will all cry and whine without even thinking that it is their fault. Sad day for Canadians.

  11. Republicans must be longing for the good old days of Bush, when the economy was in free fall and millions of Americans sere without health insurance. I haven’t seen one republican candidate whose fit to serve on a local city council let alone serve as president!

  14. Thank you for that today. When I got up this morning one of the first things I read was that the State of Texas (where I live) is officially cutting off all Medicaid funding of any Planned Parenthood clinic in the whole state. They say it is because of the video that Fiori woman mentioned.and therefore they assume the clinics are guilty of “Medicaid program violations”. It was a five-page letter sent from the state health officials to each PP clinic, even if they do not have abortions at that clinic and blah, blah, blah!! PP says they will fight back with everything they have :in order to protect women’s access to health care. The same thing happened in Louisianna where they are now in lawsuits. So sad PP has to spend money on lawsuits in almost every state where the GOP has taken control. Federal courts have consistently found were it is against Federal law to remove abortion providers from funding. All that time and money wasted, you trustees of public funds!

  20. Preach, Sister! The news organizations have a lot to answer for.  It’s due in large part to their broadcast decisions that Republicans and other really unqualified people have managed to get and hold onto so much power in public discourse.  And the Republicans really need to take a look at themselves if they want to survive (although at this point I hope they don’t).   From: Margaret and Helen To: pietblau60@yahoo.com Sent: Monday, October 19, 2015 5:31 AM Subject: [New post] If Today’s Republican Party Were to Come Up With A Good Idea, It Would Die of Loneliness  #yiv9623710262 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv9623710262 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv9623710262 a.yiv9623710262primaryactionlink:link, #yiv9623710262 a.yiv9623710262primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv9623710262 a.yiv9623710262primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv9623710262 a.yiv9623710262primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv9623710262 WordPress.com | Helen Philpot posted: “Margaret, normally we can find a little humor in everything.
