Margaret, the news has just been fast and furious this week. One fugitive dead and one still on the run. ISIS attacks in France, Kuwait and Tunisia. Donald Trump becoming the new leader of the Tea Party. I wonder what flag that Confederacy of Dunces will fly now that the Stars and Bars is being removed? Oh and something about a trade bill being passed and God hating America. That last one seems to be getting the most play over on Fox News. Never in my life did I think I would live long enough to see the gays persecuting the Christians instead of the other way around. That was actually a Fox Exclusive!
I read somewhere that Glen Beck has 10,000 to 20,000 pastors ready to die before gay marriage would become legal. Funny. I haven’t seen any obituaries printed. Religious conviction has its limits I guess, but that really is one herd I would love to see thinned. Of course if a government is able to show more compassion than your church, maybe you should join another church.
It’s just so odd that all this hatred and discrimination seems to be emanating from a bunch of Republicans who claim to represent Jesus. Now there is a conundrum. As a Christian politician do you abide by the law of the land and treat others with love and respect or do you follow the teachings of Jesus and treat others with love and respect? Such a dilemma.
I look forward to the day the Supreme Court rules that a political party can’t have a monopoly on God. I mean it really.
Helen, every day I check out this blog, quivering with excitement. Surely the pressure of such a wide array of worthy targets must soon cause an explosion of wit here! Take my reasoned advice and start posting instantly and often lest dear Helen become Mount Saint Helen with all those unsaid things!

Hi, Terri – and other porch sitters… Yes; plenty going on. And the MSM’s coverage of every piece of trash that comes out of “the Donald’s” pie hole, as if it were “news,” makes me want to throw up… The hard right made this guy, and now they’re sorry… Too bad!
The terrifying thing is that some people might actually vote for him, if he stays in this. And this is effing “America”…?
The discontent is right, but the the “culprits” are not. Immigrants are not the problem; corporate monopoly is. Just my opinion…
Just wanted you to know I’m still at least “alive-ish” these days. Best I can do – and it’s probably damned good enough!!

I just tried to share your letter on Facebook and I couldn’t because when I tried I got a message that said that it was blocked because some on FB had found some of the content abusive. Keep it up ladies! You must be doing something right if those who find your letters abusive must be Republicans. I find this so hypocritical but what can you expect.

Greetings, Jim! What the prelate from Burlington was “coding” is that marriage is totally for the procreation of children and its validity rests simply on biology. That means that all those good Catholics who married and found they could not have children and were deemed too old to be adoptive parents are in some fashion living in an invalid way. I recall at least one priest opining that such people would just have to bear their cross no matter the pain and suffering caused by uncooperative biology. And then there are those old duffer Catholics who marry beyond the age of procreation. My! My!
Per the prelate, there is no “unitary” version of marriage, only procreational. Hmmm! No wonder so many heterosexuals these days are opting for a non-traditional “partnership” (without a marriage license) or are doing their churching elsewhere.

This blog post by Margaret and Helen has been blocked because some FB users are offended by its contents. All sorts of racist, sexist, anti-Islamic, homophobic and other offensive posts are allowed, but one which questions how some people use religion to justify discrimination and hate is disallowed. To fans of this blog post, try copying and pasting on FB. Then complain to FB about this outrageous censorship.

I thought you might be interested in an excerpt from an insert in the local Catholic Church’s bulletin today by the bishop of Burlington Christopher J. Coyne who used to be the assistant to the Cardinal Law
“With deep respect for all our brothers and sisters, there is no basis in law or in nature for any definition of marriage that seeks to expand it beyond that of a life-long and life giving covenant between one man and woman. Today’s 5-4 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court redefining marriage as a union between two consenting adults regardless of gender ignores the fundamental and natural truth of marriage and opens its definition to the whims of public opinion. Efforts to redefine marriage based on an expansion of a “right to marry” are misguided, as it is not within the power of any institution, religious or secular, to redefine marriage since it is God who is its author.”
To this I say, there is now a basis in law, like there already was in many states.
I would also like to say that just as the states and federal government go to great lengths to stay out of the business of religions (and even now governments are not dictating anything to any church), religions should keep out of governments businesses.
It was interesting that nowhere in the statement, nor in the supporting homily, was the word “love” used. Of course, this could be because in the days when the Bible was written love was not considered a reason to devote ones’ life to another, something that some believe has changed. And were Mary and Joseph ever married anyway? (Incidentally, I did find this, among many links: . http://www.catholic.com/blog/tim-staples/when-were-joseph-and-mary-married . No comment is needed as long as one sees the “obviously”s.)

Thanks for sharing. There have been so many celebrations around the globe today with the many Gay Pride annual marches. The best picture was a Lesbian couple holding their fists out with “Love” and “Wins.”
These threats of apocalypse over decisions grow weary. Obamacare was supposed to be a disaster for the country and it is working pretty well per a number of measures and reputable health care foundations an economy think tanks. So, the gay marriage decision will not be disaster either and will actually make our country stronger by saying everyone has equal rights to marriage. Plus, their marriage has no impact on others per the Supreme Court, as they cannot show harm by same-sex marriage. Good post, BTG
