Jesus Loves the Legal Little Children

helen-mug1  FROM HELEN:

Margaret, our good Christian Governor down here in Texas, Rick Perry, said he would use his executive authority to activate up to 1,000 National Guard troops to help secure the Texas border region against “criminal aliens.”   Criminal Aliens being Spanish for children, I think.  My Spanish isn’t so good so you might want to look that up.   These are children who were not aborted so Texas just doesn’t have room for them… or compassion.  In Spanish I believe the word for compassion is… well I’m not sure what it is but I am sure that good Christian Perry knows.

Last year, Perry spoke to the Faith and Freedom Coalition about his own Christian faith and how God taught him to abandon his own selfish pride.

“Nothing less than the example of our savior inspires me as I speak to you today,” Perry said. He then read Philippians 2:5-8, in which Paul says that Christ set an example for his followers by humbling himself and became “obedient unto death, even death upon a cross.”

I always love it when a good Christian finds strength in the words of Jesus.   It gives me hope.    In this case, I think the teachings of Jesus are pretty clear…

New International Version
Jesus said, “Let the legal little children north of the border come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

New Living Translation
But Jesus said, “Let the non criminal alien children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children especially those good legal ones from Texas.”

English Standard Version
but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them unless they are illegal, for only to the legal ones belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

New American Standard Bible
But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.  But make sure they have their documentation.”

Yes.  Margaret.   It reminds me of my favorite hymn:

Jesus loves the legal children,
All the legal children of the world.
Red and yellow, black but mainly white,
All are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the legal children of the world.

Amen.  I mean it.  Really.

margaret-mug1 FROM MARGARET:

Helen, dear.  I’m afraid I can’t help you.  I own a non-political bible and the only aliens we have to worry about up here are the French Canadians.  Does Governor Perry have issues with French Canadians?

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX

    PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away.If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self-esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

    I love this one.
AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

  70. Hi again Gato,
You’re right. I think the Ferguson police department is terrible. They need more diversity in their ranks and more training. There are many, many good policemen in this country but apparently Ferguson doesn’t have too many of them, along with many other places. They made so many, many mistakes. I read a report that a cop actually let his dog urinate on a floral memorial for Michael Brown. After letting Michael Brown lay in the street in the hot August sun for four hours you have to wonder why these people didn’t have the common decency to treat his body with a modicum of respect, both for him and the community which was enraged by this behavior.
On another note, Fox News and the right wing media have apparently decided that Officer Wilson is some kind of hero and Michael Brown had it coming. Despicable.
So, I share your weariness on this topic. We need to,learn exactly what happened, but one party had a gun, and one did not, that is for certain.

  71. Gato….I just have to take a minute to respond. I am near Dallas. We have had two police shootings SO FAR this week. Everything to do with guns is out of control here in Texas. Whether the bad guys or the good guys. Being the peaceful person I am, I think “they” should gather them all up, make them into a big mountain in Kansas and melt them down, one and all, but especially hand guns and assault weapons. It could be a tourist attraction, maybe someone would actually go to Kansas then! But I sure don’t say that outside my own home, I could be shot for stating it in public. This is Texas after all. Gov’ner Dick Perry was going to the border to shoot the little brown kids himself, remember!!

    Like

  72. Ah, Terri – Sometimes I’m just too weary to respond further. This is all too nuts. Why is there even a debate about a police officer killing an unarmed person who was not a “suspect” for anything, other than walking in the street…? Don’t most cops do better? Don’t most of them have a car in which they can drive away? They’ve got guns; why do they feel threatened? Don’t they have access to backup? Don’t they have cell phones?

I live in CT. I’ve NEVER heard of a cop here shooting someone without cause, or even shooting anyone, ever, in the more than fifty years I’ve lived here. Officers show up to check out a potential robbery, to remove a miserable raccoon from a trap, to pull over a drunk driver, when required, to see if anyone has caused a problem for anyone else. Of course they all have guns; I’ve just never heard of a single one of them ever using them.

We do have a mixed society here – local Caucasians, lots of Ecuadorians, Central Americans, Brazilians, blacks, a whole mixed bag. I’ve never heard anyone complain about the law enforcement here. I may have been “protected” from any of this in some way, but I don’t think so.

It just doesn’t happen here. It happens in Missouri. It happens in the South. “Officer Wilson” is, IMHO, a total wimp for not stepping up and dealing with what he did. And the Ferguson, MO, PD is equally culpable for not holding him responsible for his actions.

  73. Hi, Terri – Of course the only ones of us who can exercise our “personal responsibility” are those of us who have had:

    (1) Decent parenting.
    (2) A decent education.(Grade school… Reading and writing!)
    (3) Enough food to eat as we were growing up.
    (4) A doctor to see us when we were sick.
    (5) A home in which to live while we were growing up.
    (6) At least the possibility that we might be able to get a job which paid a wage on which we might hope to live… Nothing fancy; just enough.

Without those things, what kind of “perusal responsibility” could anyone possibly have…?

    Gato

  74. Happy summer Gato! As always your post is right on point. We must get Dems out to vote this November. The thought of the GOP winning the senate makes me ill. I’m never quite sure who the people are who vote Republican, especially these days when we have faced more obstructionism than ever before. As for “personal responsibility”, why does that always seemed to come from people who have enjoyed white privilege their whole lives?

    Like

  75. Hi, Terri – and COBLUE. and Mageen, and others –

Well, the ol’ tradesman certainly gets points for consistency, AND for finding such a wealth of paranoid, ranting, “conservative” sources for his “news.”

When people like Ben Carson go on about “personal responsibility,” the “free market,” and so on, I have yet to see any of them suggest any concrete programs to encourage any of that – other than just telling people they should get off their duffs and “make something” of themselves. Ah, yes.. Nobody is going to “help” anyone else, at all, with education, food, medical care, affordable housing, family planning, a decent minimum wage, immigration reform, the right to vote… But everybody can have a gun. THAT’s the kind of thing that’s going to make everyone “personally responsible,” isn’t it?

Oh, and I haven’t seen Officer Darren Wilson stepping forward to take much “personal responsibility” for his part in what happened in Ferguson. And I don’t want to hear one single word about how he “fears for his life.” If law enforcement, weaponized like an army, can’t “protect” him, what the hell good are they…?

    And, yes, of course… VOTE!

  79. America does not negotiate with terrorists, including the Koch Brothers’ Republican Tea Party Terrorists. Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority leader, has given the President an ultimatum: sign the Tea Party platform into law or we, the Tea Party Republicans, which by the way consists of every Republican lawmaker in Congress and the majority of Justices on the Supreme Court, will once again shut down the government. The Tea Party Republicans have done nothing but filibuster or obstruct the agenda of a President who was elected twice by the people of this country, not by hanging chads and a ruling by the state of Florida supreme court (whose brother just happened to be the governor of that state), but by winning a majority of votes.

The Tea Party platform intends to take away all rights of women, including the right to CHOOSE what they do with their bodies, the right to equality in business and the right to vote and this includes taking away the right to vote for all ethnics, they want to widen the gap between the 1% and the 99% because poor and destitute people can be manipulated. They want to destroy Social Security, Obamacare which has already saved the lives of millions of Americans despite the kinks that come at the onset of any new program. What kind of people begrudge fellow Americans the right to good and affordable health care? They would like to destroy Medicare for Seniors, help for Veterans, help for the poor. They want no separation of church and state and no medical research because Science is truth and they can’t handle the truth. The Koch Brother’s Republican Tea Party is no different than the terrorists in the Middle East and Russia. And the Media seem to give them carte blanche, never reporting the truth, always reporting what they are told to report or regurgitating the garbage lies from Tea Party darlings like Limbaugh and Fox News. It is disgusting.

These are very dangerous people who own all the media outlets in this country. There are only 6 corporations who own everything so every one in Media is owned by the Koch Brothers and their ilk. The Kochs have successfully taken away a majority of the Progressive radio stations in our country. The Tea Party is pumping billions of dollars into every Republican lawmakers war chest in this country, no matter how small their political position. The Koch Baggers, for lack of a better grouping word, have purchased our federal government, state governments, city governments, townships, judges, etc. All the Republican politicians have sold their souls to these heinous brothers whose ultimate goal, beginning with their Nazi sympathizer father , was to destroy this country so that they could be the Puppet Masters . The Kochs are doing it with money, buying the Citizens United ruling, they are doing it by buying off everyone in politics and a huge majority of the Media.

They truly believe that money will buy their heinous desires. America should not negotiate with these American terrorists.

  81. jmatt and others gathered on the porch, I just spent a little time looking at the Texas two-stepper’s situation. Seems as if one of his cronies also got caught DUI and what happened? No notoriety and 2step gave him a helluva job with the TX guvmint and a salary of $162,000 a year. 2step had been after Lembaugh for some time, even before she got lit one night. Her office was charged with looking into improprieties in 2step’s office. And that cancer fund thing was actually a slush fund for 2step and his posse. That cancer bunch had given millions to 2step. Its that cancer thing that really got me. I lost my husband of 44 years about a year and a half ago to that disease. I was with him to the last. Anyone who would use a cancer project as a front for dirty dealing has to have a special place in Hades already marked out for him. And, boy, do I mean that!

  82. Ah, Gato…Mageen, you are so right. We have always known he is a crooked SOB, it was just a matter of time before he got caught. I used to not keep track back when The Shrub ordained Perry, but in my memory I was very very suspicious back when he decided all our young girls had to have the vaccine for HPV. Made it mandatory. Now I even agree all the young girls and maybe boys should get this vaccine but not make it mandatory when (then anyway don’t know now) insurance would not cover it and the shot was something like $380-ish. Mandatory! Turned out there was only one manufacturer that made the vaccine and Perry had close financial ties to them. So, first, not all parents wanted to have their girls vaccinated (dummies) and most couldn’t afford it without insurance coverage. When it was finally revealed his financial ties to the company and that he tried to enrich himself with our daughters, he finally rescinded the order. I may have used the wrong words for how it was enacted and overturned, but I hope you know what I mean. Since then I always presume he has an underlying reason for everything he does. But when he de-funded Planned Parenthood and managed to pass a law that effectively closed all abortion clinics except three or four, I finally figured out he just hates women especially those of us who are even a little independent. Allegedly he wanted to protect women and their fetuses, he said. Turns out he is only interested in fetuses, not real live children. Then he wants to shoot all the brown children at the border. The man is insane and has been allowed to screw up this state for too long. He has been the worse thing for women ever in his terms of office. I feel really sorry for Texas women…Perry has squashed us politically and every other way. It probably will take decades to catch back up to where we were before his term. Even the Shrub was not as bad.

And, uawtrad….whatever, we all know where you stand, I don’t know why you still come on this blog. Of course you try to defend the indefensible! But it is getting almost impossible for you, isn’t it? tee hee!!

  83. Its not just one indictment. If that were the case Perry needn’t have to worry but its danged hard to work circular fashion around two! This was more than a political opportunity against a female DA with a solvable problem and the smart money knows that. Ten to one if the DA had been a man, and even an associate of Perry, the DUI story would never have made the papers or even got the heat Perry gave Lembaugh. For all we know, that office was also investigating some of Perry’s friends and maybe even Perry himself. When he denied funding to the DA’s office he pretty much decommissioned it and thats obstruction of justice. There is way more to this than we presently know.

Wouldn’t it be better if we all could say, “Yeah; we have this problem, and we need to deal with it,” rather than insisting it just doesn’t exist?

The only Demon that can control us is the one we refuse to name…

I think a Karmic shift is in the works, and has been for a while. Obama is part of it – maybe even the start of it. Captain Ron Johnson, of the Missouri Highway Patrol, is part of it. Even the Ferguson Police Dept chief is part of it, although he doesn’t seem to have quite gotten the hang of what’s happening, yet. The citizens of Ferguson who stood in front of storefronts, to deter the looters, are part of it, too.

And this blog is part of it, too.

  91. Mageen in Old Virginny – you are so right. I remember those times. I have lived in Texas my whole life and am now an old lady. I know if we didn’t have the Mexican workers here, there are thousands of business that would just have to close up. Landscapers, restaurants, janitorial companies, farmers, cattle workers, construction companies to name a few. Currently in my city they are building a new toll road – hard hot or freezing-ass cold highway construction work. In the heat, all Mexicans completely covered in long sleeves and hats and neck covers to stay out of the sun out to work in this heat. I am in commercial property management, I know. We can’t hire them at my company, but they are hired by others and I think we are blessed to have them. When I drive around town, anytime there is hard hot outside work, there are the Mexicans. Even on a Sunday, I saw a crew up on scaffolds building a rock wall on a bank building. It was about 105 degrees that day. In my experience they are the hardest working, most reliable workers you can get. Personally, I don’t think I am brave enough to go to a new country where I don’t speak the language and try to build a new life. Yet they do. I have seen so many mothers who don’t speak the language, but they take their little children some as young as four or five into stores with them to interpret for them. I can’t think my kids when they were that little were capable of knowing two languages. Industries in the Southwest depend on them to do they work we wont to make their millions. I have a big soft spot in my heart for them…. braver than me and harder working than me too. To these people who want them kept out at any cost….build walls, shoot em or let Gov’ner Perry shoot em or deport them – what, you going to come mow my property and plant my flowers? Clean my building every night when you won’t even pick up your own damn paper towels off the floor? Clean the plumbing pipes out when you continue to flush your feminine pads down the toilet and have to look at what comes out? Or, wash my dishes and cook my food? Wash and wax my car or clean and wash my marble floors? Build my highways and buildings on Sunday afternoon when its 105 outside? What about build my house and pour the concrete when it is raining all day? Will you come clean up the cow crap at the cattle feeder lots that smell when you get within five miles away? Wanna come slit the throat of the cows or hogs at the slaughter houses?? How about you go pick all my taters or lettuce? Huh, Huh??? The Mexican people will and sometimes take two or even three jobs a day every day to support themselves, their kids and their parents or family back in Mexico. Then when they get old, because they have not been working “in the system” or have been working under someone else’s social security number they have enriched that person and have been even paying taxes under that person’s name but they can’t even collect Social Security retirement money. I have known people who’s mother died in Mexico and they could not go back to the funeral. I knew one man who was shot and killed. His wife had to send his body back to Mexico to be buried, but she and his kids could not go. And, the whole family lost their means of support when the Daddy died. She ended up having to take the kids who were born here to her home in Mexico. It must be a sad and completely terrifying way of life.

  92. Greetings Gato and all! Good post, Gato, on what constitute illegality where the refugee children are concerned. The United Nations has some really amazing data on these children. The vast majority of them have a parent or parents already here in the U,S. and have been reunited.

I am what is romantically called a senior citizen. I wonder if any of the other senior citizens remember a time when the flow back and forth over the southern border did not get such incredible attention. Ever since the 1920’s, just about right after WWI, that flow has been in existence for farmers and ranchers in need of extra labor to keep their businesses running. These were farmers and ranchers living at some reallly big distance from large urban areas where they might possibly find extra hands born in the US of A. During WWII, the same farmers and ranchers went south of the border personally to recruit help to fill in for all the Americans who were in uniform. They even went across the border in big open trucks to do so. These laborers went back and forth and kept in touch with their families.

Nowadays, ever since 1986 when another very restrictive law went into effect, the border has not been amenable to the old flow that existed previously. In order to get a visa, a poor man would have to get to a city with a consulate and worse yet, had to be able to read and write. And be in possession of certain documents which they usually knew nothing about. Economic conditions south of the border were at one time so bad that the poor were literally driven north, usually in the hands of smugglers. The usual price some years ago was about $700 Yankee dinero. Now it is more than ten times as much which means that once a laborer is in the US he has to work much longer to pay it all off. And he cannot drift back and forth across the border to see his family or he would lose his/her job. They are “locked” in.

This means a loss of contact with one’s children. It can also mean putting out a call to those same children who miss their parents to come north by any means possible. Yes, those notorious smugglers are deeply involved in this. So are the conditions in Central America. If I lived in CA, I would give my life’s blood to get my kid out of there before some narcoterrorist killed him or her.

And Helen is right. Jesus blesses all children.

“Legality” is based on the decisions of humans; the Ten Commandments reflect the justice of a Higher Power, according to those who believe… And even to many who don’t.

    Big difference.

Yes, Gato. ‘us’ and US. They are us. More specifically maybe those that are over us. We all participate. Everyone effects the health of the whole.

    This is probably better articulated…

We have arrived here because of the accumulated evidence which overwhelmingly proves that the status quo is a fraud – designed to strip us of our powers of judgement and the determination to act on that judgement. There is no time for further deliberation of the pros and cons of this or that political polemic. It’s all a miasma. A massive sham. A sham which we continue to uphold as long as we go on playing along with its sense of self importance; giving it a status it does not actually possess, and then sheltering under its poisoned wing.

It is beyond obvious that all the Koch Brothers’ financed and there-for Koch Bros Teabagging Republican Puppets talk out of both sides of their asses. Love the fetus and hate the child, war and hate monger until the good guys need to use some military action and then scream about it, let your two world “champeen” idiots, Dubya and Ronnie (Reagan) use more events of Executive Power and Signing statements than any presidents in history and then file a total waste of time and taxpayers’ money lawsuit (with their dreams of empeachment—-which is BTW simply a reprimand) because “the scary black man in the White House” is doing his job and trying to get immigration into force and doing what the health insurance companies asked him to do with extensions and trying to get embassadores approved and into countries where there are none.

The Teabagger Republican party owned by the Koch Brothers have done nothing for this country since they purchased 3 Supreme Court Justices during the Dubya sham of a presidency, won the majority in the house in 2006 and used the Baggers in the Senate to filabuster more bills than any party in the history of this country. They are useless asshats to be sure.

Get out the vote in November and vote Democratic. Offer to drive people who can not get to the polls, offer to do some campaigning in your district for the Democrats and pay attention to whom your judges are and which govenor appointed them. Get the Baggers out because any Republican is a Bagger now and any one of those Bagger judges can grow up to become corrupt Supreme Court Justices !!!!

  108. Yay! A new post! Rally the troops!

As a believer I have been critical of others that talk-the-talk yet do not walk-the-walk. That is what prompted me to first post here some years ago. Americans are a society obsessed with labels. The Christian label is certainly popular, especially among conservatives, but more often than not, there’s no faith there to back it up. It isn’t genuine if it doesn’t look like Jesus.

We live in a world of manufactured crises and this one is no different. Just because it is headlines today doesn’t make it a new problem that needs solving. The media is no longer tasked to inform, rather to sensationalize events and propagandize the public. Quite successfully, it has caused both conformity and division among us. We like taking sides. Maybe it’s how we’ve been indoctrinated. Competition is good, we are told. Where there are winners there must also be losers.

There really is no interest on the part of government to solve ANY of these issues. Look at their track record. How many ‘wars’ do we have that are ongoing? Declaring war on drugs hasn’t slowed the drug traffic, quite the opposite. There are too many resources devoted and profits derived from maintaining the status quo. That is the primary problem. Cui bono? The world system is inherently evil, no matter how much whitewash one applies. Unfortunately, humanity as a whole suffers and the most vulnerable are the children. Children have been exploited for political gain time and again. This administration is no different.

What they intend is a one world government devoid of borders. You may have heard talk of a new world order? The way is being paved and it’s coming to your neighborhood.

When he came here all he had in the way of documentation was his diploma. That was in the late 20s and by the time 1935 rolled around he was a citizen. My maternal grandmother was an immigrant as were her parents. They had to get off the boat in Canada instead of the U.S. where they originally wanted to go. Grandma was born in Renfrew, Ontario, and then spent the rest of her life in Detroit. Now because my father was an immigrant that is a bunch of really macadamia type nutjobs who want me to self-deport and take my family with me!

I am all for the children fleeing the narcoterrorism of Central America just as my grandmother’s parents fled the war mongerers in Europe. To me, there is no difference. When I saw a picture in the newspaper of a group of Central American boys, I didn’t see typhoid carrying illegals. I saw a Little League baseball team! And I could see at least one of that team moving up to the majors and the Hall of Fame. Even the littlest Yankees in this country have electronic gadgets that keep them from being physically fit. They are in such dire need of playtime that when required to sit still with their hands folded you will see them kind of rock back and forth a little just to wear off the energy.

BTW, I’ve been reading up on the migration of the people from northern Europe some time ago. The “legality” of their entry could depend entirely upon which port their ship landed at. And some would jump ship if they knew they couldn’t get through strict screening. Some people got into Canada and made their way south. And yes, many that came were teens, on their own, without parents accompanying them.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 90 undocumented immigrants in a recent six-day operation.

The agents conducted Operation Bear III throughout five cities across Central and South Texas last week. They say the people who were arrested had well-documented criminal records and have been tracked by ICE.

Of the arrested immigrants, 13 were in Austin, a city that ICE agents say has become a focal point.

“We feel that this is a target-rich environment that people fitting ICE’s priorities are living here in this area, and I have a team in Waco and two teams in San Antonio, and they were constantly coming to this area to work it,” Enrique Lucero, ICE San Antonio’s Field Office Director, said.

Operation Bear began in 2010. Previously, the operation has covered Waco, Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio.

  128. Oh, Helen, I just love that you are so funny & you know the Bible so well. I think it is so important to have a sense of humor in life. Our pastor can recite the bible one moment and have us rolling on the ground with laughter the very next moment. He sure can connect with the youth in our congregation that way. Especially the young boys. He even has special outings with them, gives them wonderful gifts, and makes each one feel so special. I understand they even all agree to a “cone of silence” after each of their “away” events. Such brotherhood is important at that age. We are so blessed to have such role models in our lives. I do consider you one as well!
Yours in the light of our Lord,

  131. I lived in Brownsville, TX, for 13 years until I became disabled and it wasn’t safe for me to remain there alone. Why? Because the violence and trafficking associated with the cartels and organized crime from Mexico was even hitting my good neighborhood. A stash house holding dozens of illegal immigrants was found blocks away. A violent home invasion took place one block away. When I first got sick and was still teaching, everyone in the schools where I taught had to be tested and retested for TB because a recent immigrant child carried the drug-resistant variety and a teacher’s aide died from it. This is the reality of life there.

Now if you want to hold onto some fantasy in which groups of children are either making their way alone or with caring, benevolent guides, that’s your business. But don’t use your fantasy life to degrade others’ concerns, opinions, and objections by calling their faith into question. That’s just playing to your crowd.

Coyotes are leading the groups and are charging the parents. Coyotes are most often working for the cartels and gangs. It’s amazing that you haven’t bothered to ask yourself how they are being paid. You should — the kids are used as sex slaves or to carry drugs along the way. For every kid caught by ICE, several more are being held in Texas, in stash houses, and put to work in the sex or drug trades to pay off the debt.

This is a horrible situation that needs to be shut down. Of course we need to feed, clothe, and protect the children in custody. But they need to be returned to their families and the US needs to assist the Guatemalan government in cleaning up the violence there, building infrastructure, and providing opportunities. The only way to protect the children is to keep them out of the clutches of the coyotes.

Frankly, I don’t understand what sort of person advocates children walking thousands of miles without their parents and in the hands of criminals. And then gets downright nasty when measures are taken to protect families who live on the Texas border from the crime associated with trafficking. If you want to make this a color issue, you do realize that 96 percent of the people who live near the Border are “brown,” don’t you? And that Texas is a minority majority state?

I can’t stand Rick Perry but he does have to prevent chaos at the Border. And it will ensue if this drags on. The thing that I find odd is how up-in-arms residents of some “Blue States” get when some of the children are taken there to ease Texas’ burden. So you people insult those of us who deal with the realities of Latin American immigration all of the time but your states don’t want them, even for a little while. Heh, typical.

They have not even been immunized, carrying a health threat to us. Also they are a HUGE drain on our social safety net, as if we don’t have enough trouble with our own AMERICAN citizens abusing and gaming the system with bogus EBT and SSI claims. Further, as another poster on here said, where was all your concern for brown children while they were in Mexico or Guatemala or whatever godforsaken hell hole they came from?

  150. Chris – about your friend’s issue with her passport, it is the individual’s responsibility (a Republican tenet) to make sure his/her passport is renewed prior to the expiration date. The Government has notified the individual of the expiration date by printing it in the actual passport, not some paper that would be lost during the 10 year time period of the passport, so in truth, the expiration of your friend’s passport was not unbeknownst to her. Did she want the Government to notify her of the upcoming expiration date (and what, create a nanny state?). No, it was her responsibility and hers alone to ensure she was properly prepared to travel.
As to your assertion that the Government is not being fair to it’s own citizens, yes, you can leave without a passport, but you must have a valid passport to re-enter the country. Being able to show that you are a citizen of the country you are entering is done by showing your passport. How else do you think the customs agent would know you are a citizen and should be allowed to enter the country? By looking at you? Looking you up in a phone directory? Showing your drivers license (no, even “illegals” can get a drivers license in some States). Because you say so (I’d like to be there when you try that one)? No, by showing your valid passport you will be able to re-enter the country. Otherwise, aren’t you considered to be undocumented?
And last, in my travels I have seen that other countries also require their citizens to show a valid passport upon re-entering their country. I guess the world is full of unfair countries.

Why should we think that the horrific plight of thousands of refugee children would be enough to move Republicans toward immigration reform? What a fascinating – and heartbreaking – study in evil being cloaked in religious righteousness.

  158. You make a lot of unsubstantiated statements about cartels, sex-trade workers, overflowing hospitals, etc. but you present no facts to back this up. How about some statistics that prove your case? US or state government data, articles from newspapers, magazines, online sites that have documents that can be verified.

“Hospitals are overfilled causing states to go broke.” No states have gone broke. What state has such a precarious budget that overfilled hospitals would cause its bankruptcy? Hospital bills are usually paid by insurers, not states.

“All types of sickness is rampant.” Not according the the Centers for Disease Control and the US Public Health Service. Many of the immigrant children are better vaccinated than native Texan children. Some of them come from countries where vaccinations are free and mandatory. That’s not true for all US states.

Many immigrants who came to America in the 1800s had NO documents whatsoever. Local governments in their native countries often did not issue birth certificates at that time. Or marriage licenses. My great-great grandparents came over without official documentation. They just bought tickets on a ship. These immigrants have walked, some for hundreds of miles, been carried, been stuffed in trucks and buses, gone hungry, been afraid. And you make it sound as if our ancestors had it worse. I don’t think so.

Christians would not try to block school buses containing immigrant children by snarling at them like wild animals. Christians would not threaten to shoot them as they crossed the border. Christians would not assault other Christians for helping the children, feeding them and providing shelter for them, at least until their deportation hearings. The Pope and Catholic Bishops are calling for the US to HELP these children. Last time I checked, those billions of Catholics were Christian. Are you being selective and just defending the Christians who are calling for these children to be abandoned?

No, Chris, you need to present some verifiable facts to back up your wild claims. It’s really hard to take you seriously when you just make these things up or just repeat what you’ve been told.

  160. The little children are not just young. There were 90 “caught ” aliens last Saturday night by the border patrol. Of those were 4 distinct separate groups…families….singular travelers, children, and the drug cartels..Mostly bringing in children for the sex trade, and undocumented workers for the slime ball corporations using cheap labor to sustain their businesses, while our middle class paying jobs to 3rd world countries.
This number is the ones that were caught…..there are maybe 4-5 TIMES MORE ? that did not get caught. We are not sure how many are smuggled into the country from the southern borders.
All this, while the government uses the scare tactics to insure our rights being taken away…with Homeland Security…why would our government leave the borders so vulnerable, while WE Americans cannot travel and get back into the country without passports.
My U S citizen friend’s passport had expired, unbeknownst to her; causing her to leave the airport, ditch the trip to Mexico, loose the monies spent for the trip….She was told she could leave the country without a VALID passport; she just would have a hell of a time re-entering the U.S. Without one.
Why is the government so unfair to our own citizens, while catering to foreigners?
This border crisis is happening EVERYDAY…….365 days a year.. When asked why they were coming to America, the people answered for the AMNESTY GUARANTEED by the U.S. government. That is why we have this border crisis.
The infrastuctures in the border towns are in crisis…all along the 2,000 miles of U.S. borders.
Hospitals are overfilled, causing states to go broke, and ALL types of sickness is rampant….a lack of food and water is destroying the cities on all the borders…truly, this causing a real American Crisis. The worst part is, OUR government IS CREATING this crisis, by NOT going by the set in place, rules of law.
My great grandparents came to America, in the late 1800s from Sicily by way of Ellis Island. It was a hard life for the immigrants. My Grandma came as a one year old, in about 1900.
There was a lot of sickness and death to the immigrants. They were brave and documented. They wanted to become citizens. They were poor and determined. They FOLLOWED the laws of the country they were to become a part of. They LOVED the thought of becoming a citizen in the Country they had such respect for.
THEY HAD PAPERS from Italy….if the immigrants did NOT….they were sent back across the sea, from whence they came.
Also, the immigrants were checked by doctors…if they were ill, MANY, as much as 1/4 to 1/2 were sent back. NO ONE WAS ALLOWED TO ENTER AMERICA WHO MIGHT CAUSE ILLNESS TO ITS CITIZENS.
If one had criminal backgrounds, that could be tracked…once the immigrants were DOCUMENTED as part of our society. That may have been a deal break breaker….I am not sure, how that worked.
There ALWAYS WAS A GENERAL NUMBER of Immigrants allowed each year that could reasonably be integrated into the cities, and assimilated into the infrastuctures and society, itself. The welfare systems of all the border states, does not have enoughfunds to care for these undocumented, illegal immigrants. Our states are going broke just trying to take care our our own brothers needing a helping hand, while our middle class sustaining manufacturing jobs are being sent to China, India, and Asia.
The immigration limit was made law and put into effect to protect our society.
Immigration is a super problem..but, the government is NOT governing by the laws on the books, which is causing this crisis.
Stop crying, we are not being Christian.
Stop this ridiculing of Christians. Stop pulling up the Christian card, and slamming Christians. This ONLY happens when it is convenient to the promotion of the Corporate agenda. Christians are usually blammed for everything, ridiculed and often times around the world, victimized and killed for their love of their fellow man.
We do love our brother, but, stop comparing government rule of law to our love of God, and of the Son of the Father.
