Like a zoo, Fox News isn’t so scary once you realize the animals can’t get out of their cages

HELEN:

Margaret, I ventured into new territory today. I tuned into Fox News. It was kind of like going to the zoo… not so scary once you learn the animals can’t get out of their cages.

Just like when I go to a regular zoo, I didn’t know the names of all the animals at Fox, but I quickly learned the ones with opposable thumbs and the ability to reason were token Democrats who had, at some point, worked in the Clinton administration. The ones who liked to rattle their cages and screech at the visitors were the angry Republican hacks who seemed to be, for the first time, discovering the wonders of math.

I was surprised to see so many animals that I thought were long ago extinct. There was angry, old Lou Dobbs plodding around mumbling something about voter fraud and immigrants and Mike Huckabee being all folksy and jolly. And there was Oliver North, Liz Cheney, Haley Barbour and even Geraldo Rivera who now just goes by Geraldo like Madonna, Cher and Cavuto.

Over in a corner in a cage all by himself was the red-assed Karl Rove. Now that one scares me. When they called Ohio for Obama I heard he started flinging pooh and screaming about recounts and faulty polls.

I got a chance to spot the elusive big-footed Ann Coulter which was thrilling. Since her visit to The View, she only makes appearances when no other women are in the room. She seemed pretty at ease in the zoo. I guess that comes from all the time she spent collaborating with monkeys on those personal therapy projects she calls books. Ann seemed remarkably calm considering not only the election results but also the colossal failure that was her last book. Usually she’s shrill and fidgety but sitting there in the cage with Sean Hannity she seemed almost human.

There was a lovely exhibit of irrelevant talking parrots including Shepard Smith, Greg Gutfeld, Tucker Carlson and Mr. Van Susteren. I can’t keep all of their names straight but one of them suggested that the majority of voters are like abused housewives who voted to stay with their abuser. Most of them were squawking about Hurricane Sandy and that America was about to go over a cliff. As expected, they blamed the liberal media for handing the election to Obama while simultaneously chirping that Fox is the most watched news broadcast in the nation. I know. I know. It doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense but it’s Fox News. It doesn’t have to. While I don’t think they understand the difference between Mexican-Americans and Cuban-Americans, they seem to think that any Republican politician with a name ending in O or Z will need to be on the bottom half of the ticket in 2016 if Republicans are to take the White House back.

Every zoo has its specialty and Fox is no exception. They have the largest collection of blonde, bulemic middle school girls posing as reporters with names like Megyn, Gretchen, Cheryl and Dana… many of them openly wept as the election results came in causing a river of mascara that got all over everything.

But the real treat came when I ran across that rare but ever-lovable snow beast, Sarah Palin. She’s a bit older but still very capable of smacking her lips while rattling off those non-sensical run-on sentences like “this election if it continues the way it is going will be a catastrophic setback to our economy and to any opportunity that we would have for Supreme Court justices to be appointed who would be strict adherents to the traditional interpretation of what our Constitution says which is a blueprint towards a more perfect union.” Isn’t she precious? Honestly, I was surprised to see that she had actually survived the end-of-days calamity known as the 2008 election.

Now Margaret, I don’t suggest that you visit the Fox Zoo. The lighting is bad, the air is thin, and reality is in short supply. They haven’t cleaned the cages in years so the bullshit is everywhere. Instead let me visit occasionally and send back reports. Trust me. It’s better that way.

Unlike the zoo, trips to Fox News should probably be few and far between. I mean it. Really.

MARGARET:

Thanks dear. I’ll stick to Ellen and leave the heavy lifting to you. But next time you are there do check and see what ever happened to Mrs. Van Susteren.

  7. If you lived or some how got stuck in a place far from home and you could have to be next to a cougar or mountain lion that was hungry and wounded or you were starving and in search of food for sustenance and not just gluttony as westerners are used to than you might think twice of what you said in the opening caption about never needing cages

God the Creator of all things put us with a soul to protect and use everything on this earth. Read the Holy Bible, the Last Best source for all mankind. It is the only roadmap paving a way to eternity with your heavenly father. You all do have two choices you know….

  9. OMG I’m in love. Can you adopt me?

  10. Gah!! Gato! We will have to disagree on the tradesman, I think he is a racist blowhard, as evidenced by his posts. I just flush w/o even reading now, his opinion is completely worthless and without merit as far as I am concerned! I hope he’s gone to his girlfriend’s and doesn’t have net service! :)

  11. I’ve enjoyed reading everybody’s comments, yes, even those with which I don’t agree entirely. But, I am with DeLane on these ladies!

I love these ladies too, Delane, but they’re too young to be my grammas. I would love to have them as housemates. I have never felt so enlighted by what anybody said about Fox News until Helen ventured into this stark cable-tv reality.

My partner has a block on it at home, so I never get to see it there. I only see it when I’m working out at the gym. I’ve watched it several times, and here’s what I’ve noticed:

First of all, hanging from the ceiling, are five HDTV’s. As I get my cardio workout, whether on the treadmill, the stationary bike, or the rowing machine, I look up at the broadcast images that seem to be most important to Atlanta viewers. Set #1 displays CNN – - this is not surprising, given that CNN is based in downtown Atlanta. The second channel is HGTV, a home improvement channel. If I were new to the area, I’d guess that the reason this channel is on is that I work out amidst a cross-section of Atlantans who not only love to redo their houses, but enjoy as much watching other people who redo houses. There’s a seemingly infinite number of ways to install a soap dish in one’s bathroom. Screen #3 is WSB Channel 2, from Atlanta. Folks there spend a lot of time covering traffic. How many people are watching the traffic reports while driving, I ask. Lucky #4 is Fox News. I guess their audience loves that trio in the morning. Steve and Brian are good-looking enough, for sure. But, without Miss America, Gretchen, in their midst, those two fellows would be about as outstanding as shoe salesmen sitting on a lumpy sofa.

I’m sure that the real audience draw in that show is Gretchen. She definitely appeals to a certain audience of men who probably dated, long ago, women as pretty or lovely as Gretchen. But she was Miss America, which means she is trained in the fine art of poise. Thus, no matter how much that older audience wishes she would uncross her legs for a half-second, Miss America training says, “uh-uh, that isn’t going to happen.”

Oh, and channel #5? It’s ESPN. Well, it is a gym, it attracts jocks. And, it doesn’t have much in the way of politics, except when a local politician, or the president, throws out the first ball of the game.

Margaret: I hope to catch up with you on Ellen. Ever since I started working afternoons, I don’t get to see her. The last time I saw it, former president Bill Clinton was her guest. I was sitting at the dentist’s office watching it, but not too closely – - I guess I was worrying how much the new crowns were going to cost me – - but I remembered that, at the end of the program, he stood up and danced with her! I can only think of a couple of presidents who wouldn’t have stood for such frivolity. Nixon, who, after he danced with his daughter at her rose-garden wedding, vowed he’d never be seen dancing on television again. And, FDR, for obvious reasons.

  12. Hi, Sidney – Roll eyes heavenward… It’s that slightly simpering, “Little Lord Fontleroy” posturing that is so familiar…

Here, let me write a post for him/her: “Well, I see you prefer to attack me personally, rather than addressing the very important questions I have so thoughtfully, and kindly, presented to you. Well, that just makes me ROFLMAO, and I feel so sorry for all of you, worshipping your Diety. But it doesn’t bother ME, because I am obviously so superior in intellect and human kindness than any one of you, that I wonder why I deign to bother to approach you. But… I’m basically a kind and generous soul (unlike any of you), and I, in my magnificence, am simply concerned about all of you. So I continue to put myself out – SOLELY for YOUR ultimate well-being – but am continually rebuffed. Oh, well… I am strong and self-righteous enough so tht your cruelty just doesn’t bother me whatsoever (LOL). However, I will keep posting as long as I am convinced that it is making at least two or three of you absolutely ballistic. Not everyone would be as compassionate as I am, but I am willing to sacrifice myself… Besides, I have nothing else to do this evening… Or in the foreseeable future.”

Or something like that. I kind of miss UAW… Although I still wish he’d change his avatar to something more contemporary. Jill Kelly maybe…?

Hey, Porch Dwellers! Be ornery! Love and be loved. Eat turkey, lentils, chard (delicious), pie, yogurt, bacon, Gummy Bears, Cool Whip, organic free-range tofu, or a Butterball… Whatever turns you on and guarantees you a wonderful day tomorrow. (I just realized that the gravy I’ve planned for tomorrow requires a “broth” that has to simmer for five hours, so that’s what I’m doing…)

It’s a pleasure to be amongst you all. God bless Margaret and Helen, and all of you… And Matthew!

  14. I really got under that thin skin of yours. Didn’t I little sammy man? And to accuse me of wishing you to drop dead…….I would never do that! What kind of person do you think I am? I was worried about you and would hate to see a fellow patriot choke on sour grapes while eating his thanksgiving meal for Pete’s sakes.

  15. Oh Sydney – I just read your previous post. You must have been looking in the mirror when you wrote this. LMAO – this made my day –

“And if you run across them debating among themselves online and poke a little reality into the conversation they just let into you with insults, curses, predictions and their sincerest wishes that you drop dead. It’s kind of scarey, isn’t it?”

Yes Sydney – it truly is very scary.

  16. Good one Sydney – you are all alike. You can’t discuss what was in the post – you have to try the personal attack way – because that makes you feel good about yourself. You have a good day now.

  17. Erik honey these people refuse to clutter up their minds w facts. There was MEANT to be some voter fraud this time, but something went wrong in their little system. That’s why Rove went off like he did, it became clear the goods were NOT going to be delivered! Stay tuned, bet we haven’t heard the last of this!

  18. There WAS voter fraud in 2004, but sadly, Gore politely pursued vindication through LEGAL means, while the Repubs even INTIMIDATED the Miami-Dade recounters to prevent any possibility of a legit recount. Combined with the Shrub’s bro as governor, and a biased and ambitious State AG in Kathleen Harris, well……. Read James Gannon’s “The Reckless Presidency of George W. Bush.”

  19. Sam…..why don’t you just take your crazy and post it on another blog where you can find your own kind. We won. You lost. We are the majority. Your not.
Nobody here appreciates some fool that comes TO OUR HOUSE, to fling pooh. And you are a fool. So run along now little man and lick your wounds somewhere else. Oh…and maybe see a doctor for those delusions you are having. Have a nice thanksgiving. Try not to choke on those sour grapes you’ll be eating with your turkey.

  20. Margaret and Helen – just wondering if you made fun of the Democrats back in 2004 when they screamed voter fraud. You know – just wondering since it appeared there might have been some of that going on back then. Do you think it just MIGHT be going on today? Romney didn’t get 1 vote in 59 precincts in PA? Really? I don’t think that is possible. Can you imagine what you would be writing about if it was reversed? Lol – I can!

  21. My theory about the haters: the rise of the internet and cable news has emboldened the haters to be more upfront about their bigotry. They listen to the things Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck say, and they think “if he can say that, then so can I.” There is no conspiracy theory too ridiculous, no epithet so vile, that they don’t feel they now have carte blanche to use them. The ability to post anonymously in also emboldens those without scruples or self restraint to express their suppressed feelings of resentment and animosity. We cherish free speech, and I don’t know what can be done about this, but it is very disturbing. To a certain extent both sides are guilty, but to my mind the right is much more vitriolic. (I’m sure some will disagree, but that’s my opinion.)

  22. Skyler-
I’m glad you liked the poem :-)

We took our name from a crack made by our long departed and not missed ex gov SP but mostly stay out of politics.

  23. Hi Congenial Gang,

As usual, the election postmortem continues with the gloating and sour grapes. Throw in a tacky little sex scandal between a randy old fart and an over-the hill bimbo starved for attention as she approaches menopausal oblivion, and those topics should make for some lively discussions around the Thanksgiving table this year.

However, if it should get too contentions, I would like to recommend a fascinating article from the November issue of Scientific American Magazine by George Musser entitled “Quantum Physics – A New Enlightenment”, “Quantum theory once seemed like the last nail in the coffin of pure reason. Now it’s looking like its savior; on an American Election season.” You can Google it and read the entire piece if you are interested. The reference to the “Prisoner’s Dilemma” should give everyone something to think about without being too partisan and controversial.

We have plenty to be thankful for this year!!!!! Our Democracy prevailed, sort of, and President Obama was re-elected for another four years. I really think we will get things done now!

We will be going to our traditional “Calabash Family” Thanksgiving dinner. This has been going on for YEARS at the home of dear friends with their outdoor roofed barbeque. They do a whole pig on a spit, snout and all, and a number of turkeys. There are 40-50 of us and we all have our assigned dishes to bring. Mine are my renowned cheesecakes. Immediately after dinner is served in the late afternoon, the bountiful leftovers are bundled up and several of the men take them to a shelter. A great time is had by all!

With that, I wish each one of the M&H Family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Aloha! :-) Namaste. Shalom. Saalam. Peace.

    Auntie Jean

  24. People I grew up with, ate the same cafeteria food with, drank the same San Joaquin Valley water, lived and dreamed similar dreams, now spout these views as truth. I hear the parrot heads talking the fluff of that gas bag, Rush Limbaugh, and wonder that they don’t seem able to think for themselves or read any history. I believe for many of them the idea that a black man could be president is so outside of their white insulated beliefs they will say anything to distort, block, or otherwise lend support for the betterment of the country as a whole. We are in for a rough ride in our once proud country. All around us the pedestals of value, pride and good will have been eroded by the divisive views that come through at Fox. I too tuned in election eve to listen a few minutes when the blade was dropping on the Mitt bus. Quite surprised there was no one choking on their predictions.

  25. Thanks for that Alaskapi! By the way, I went in to try and read your blog tonight, but had no luck. That Gravator or whatever it is sure ain’t user friendly! I enjoy Gato’s blog and wanted to subscribe to yours. If you have any advice on breaking through the wall, please let me know! Thanks.

  26. Skyler…..yes they do hate us, and they really really hate Obama. You have to realize that these people live in a bubble. Their news is from rightwing media outlets and rightwing websites. And they all repeat the same damn thing. Drudge will run some crazy ass headline….fox picks it up and RUNS with it for days and Limbaugh is the fat-assed cherry on the cake that swears to it. Their neighbors, friends and churches all believe the same things that they do. They know, I mean they REALLY KNOW, that Obama is a corrupt Kenyan, Marxist commie, coming to take their guns and freedoms. But the truth is……they just don’t know the truth. And have no interst in learning.
And if you run across them debating among themselves online and poke a little reality into the conversation they just let into you with insults, curses, predictions and their sincerest wishes that you drop dead. It’s kind of scarey, isn’t it?
And the GOP and their operatives fed these lies to their base for the SOLE purpose of getting this segment of the population to vote for THEM. They just jammed so many lies and bullshite down their little fearful throats, that many of the actual republican politicians and spokespeople believed it too.
Now, one thing this election cleared up for me, and I must say I was really concerned about this, was, JUST HOW MANY OF THESE NUTBALLS were out there and ready vote republican? And the answer was, thankfully……..not enough.

  27. Dear Helen and Margaret-
I’m still hoping for a Thanksgiving Letter to the family and wishing for a day of good food, and good company for all – all across the country.
Ma of Pi always told me this doesn’t sound too Thanksgiving-y but it does to me.

We pray of suffering and remorse.

Thank you for having us all in.

  28. Skyler-
I’m not sure even looking at the disconnect certain folks who call themselves Christians have even matters here. Especially lately, especially about this President.
Some words about the hating thingy from one of my favorite philosophers, Jose Ortega y Gasset from his
    Meditations on Quixote:

“We are definitely more willing to hand over our free will to a rigid moral attitude than to keep our judgment always open, ready for the desirable reform and correction. One might say that we embrace moral imperative like a weapon in order to simplify life for ourselves by destroying immense portions of the globe…

No product of resentment can evoke our sympathy. Rancor emanates from a sense of inferiority. It is the imaginary suppression of the person whom we cannot actually suppress by our own efforts. The one towards whom we feel resentment bears in our imagination the livid semblance of a corpse:in our minds we have killed him, annihilated him. Later, when we find him actually sound and unconcerned in reality, he seems to us a refractory corpse, stronger than ourselves, whose very existence is an embodiment of mockery, of disdain towards our weakness.

A wiser course than this anticipatory killing of his enemy by the resentful individual consists in falling under the influence of a moral dogma, so that, intoxicated by a certain heroic fiction, we come to believe that the enemy is utterly mistaken and completely in the wrong ”

Ortega goes on to make a case for truly understanding an enemy and asserts that “We should be on our guard against rigidity, the traditional livery of hypocrisy”

  29. Posts keep showing up on Facebook about the “liberal media” being so corrupt, about Israel, Benghazi, one cover up after another. When I have time, I read through all the comments (and sometimes I post comments just because I can). I am just amazed at the disrespectful things people are saying about Obama, the sheer hatred, the distrust, the wishes for his demise. AND they all claim to be so religious, just like all the Obama haters I know. What is it about hating Obama that these “Christians” think is all right? I thought as Christians, we were supposed to love everyone. I sure didn’t want Romney to be my president, but I didn’t hate him! Did I miss something along the way? That it’s okay to hate certain people, but not others?

  30. Hey, Mageen – I sure as hell hope he’s keeping them, and I’m pretty sure he is. There is still lots to do. What’s so pathetic is that “Mr. Job Creator” couldn’t even create a job for himself… And the so-often-maligned community organizer has turned out to be a MUCH better CEO – able to head up an incredibly successful organization, bring people in good people, inspire them, make sure they’re focused and informed, and get the job done.

(Maybe Rove has applied for an internship at OFA, to see how things are done…)

I hope you’ll forgive me taking advantage of your post to let you and fellow porch-sitters know that I’ve just put some other ornery thing on my own (new) blog, at http://www.partyandsoul.wordpress.com. HTG, I hadn’t intended to keep being political, but I seem to be doing it.

This one’s about using fear (much of it fabricated) to keep people in line… And I think the One Percent is already quite aware of how to do that, which is worrisome.

So… Would love to have you all check me out. Happily, some of you already have! Thanks!

  31. Obama’s campaign staff was superb. Have a hunch he should keep them on under another classification if he really wants to roll like he thinks he should.

  32. No fear Progressive’s! FORWARD embrace the new age. ;-) YES we can have safe and secure elections without fearing.

  33. JC, as long as the paper ballots do not involve chads! Scantron is very good at reading pencil. By the way, good porch people, I have been having computer problems of late. One of the anonymous posts was me. All the $$ I spent on computer geeks lately! Sigh!

  34. I don’t think we should have machines: I say we go back to paper. Now.

  35. opps left out IA… not sure what happen to it. lol

  36. with PA, CO, NV, NH , Obama didn’t need FL,OH, or NC… It was all moot…

sorry but all of the “magic” voter machine conspiracy stuff is just nosie.

    PEACE ~ Δ

  38. JC……maybe your husband is on to something. We will never know. But elections should be regulated somewhat on the federal level. Voting machines and tabulators should NEVER be privately owned. The federal government, through a non-partisan agency should, own, approve and test all voting machines. They should have a website with full transparency were all Americans can go and research and ask questions until their hearts content.
Until that happens, oopsie……our machine must of malfunctioned when it flipped your vote to the GOP canidate, will be the “law” of the land. And it’s not right. It’s just not right.

  39. Hi Sid, my husband thinks the Justice Dept may have picked up the velvet hammer and whispered in someone’s ear. I wonder if some one of those machines that were pulled for registering improperly (think of that video that went around from PA) was the “mother” and would have tripped others like dominos as time went on. Still thinking that’s why FL dragged their feet so long, if Rove COULD have kept it close then FL would have amazingly flipped for Mitt just like they did for W with the same song and dance just to generate noise. And there would have been the yapping about late counties, etc. AND we might have accepted it because it HAPPENED BEFORE and even though the mathematics of probability are against it, humans really like precedent-and very few are acquainted with probability theory. Thus lotteries continue to make money! :)

  40. Not so fast Gato, go to TPM and read about his latest sour grapes. Continuation of the “free stuff” bribery scheme successfully conceived and implemented by that guy in the White House. He makes a really nice arguement for adding dental care to ACA (facetiousness to him) and comes off looking exactly like the petulant entitled small-minded little prick he is. SO DAMNED GLAD we didn’t get that ass foisted onto us by Rove’s cheating machine. Bobby Jindal almost sounds sane for the moment, but then look at LA!! Almost as awful as my poor Texas! Oh well, at least the Feds will be creating our insurance exchanges cuz Little Ricky pitched a fit and said NOPE you can’t make me! So there is a glimmer of hope here!

  41. If we’re lucky, the wild hyena, know as McCain, will soon have his own cage over at the Fox Zoo. I hope it’s soon, before someone has to shoot him with a tranquilizer gun.
I found that anonymous video to Karl Rove a while a go. It’s appears real. They were locked into HIS servers, looking for and preventing any irregularities, which they promised to turn over to (authorities) the media, IF they found anything hinky.
The letter attributed to anonoymous, I’m not so sure about. It doesn’t sound like them. It is not written in the same style as so many other letter that anonymous has released in the past.
Now the ORCA program, run by the Romney people had a lot of problems that THEY caused themselves, such as expecting their supporters to print off their home printers over 60 pages of info. Now their supporters were unable log on, but that was also directly attributed to wrong info given out and then having all phone calls go unanswered, that could of corrected the problem.
Maybe anonymous did have something to do with ORCA, which had nothing to do with counting votes, but was the Romney GOTV ground game. I love anonymous, and I believe that they do great things, and if they did manage to stop Rove from stealing votes, we should be getting the scoop soon. As anon says…….we don’t forgive, we don’t forget, we are legion. And may I add …..we vote.

  42. Hi, Terri – Picking Palin did it for me…

    Gato

  43. Hey, Cynthia – What a fascinating idea… Almost no “conspiracy theory” can be tossed aside these days, given some of the absolutely blatant and shameless voter manipulation stuff that has been attempted – and sometimes successfully – right in our faces. Also hard to believe that ORCA (whatever it was actually supposed to accomplish) failed so utterly without some sort of interference… Unless there’s not a single competent Republican geek to be found anywhere, which could be possible…

Also, has anyone else noticed the utter and total disappearance from the scene of the former Republican candidate for President…? (Not that this development makes me unhappy, I hasten to add!!) What was his name…? “Gloves”, or something like that…? Kind of confirms the gut feeling I had all along that he never wanted to do it, at all, in the first place…

Thank heavens for the utter brilliance and dedication of the OFA campaign managers, supporters, and volunteers!! THEY certainly haven’t disappeared, nor are they likely to. Nor are the rest of us!

    Gato

  44. (((R.C.))) :D Thank you so much, what a splendid start to my day! Still laughing!

  45. Not Grandma Katie!
Why, oh, why couldn’t it have been UAW?
    That worthless waste of food…

  46. Is this why Karl Rove threw a hissy fit when Fox called Ohio for Obama? He knew something we didn’t know????

    Peace.

  47. I used to respect John McCain for his service but he has become a bitter and hateful person. He’s made too many mean and nasty comments since 2008 and he’s rapidly becoming irrelevant because if it. His love of the spotlight is distorting his judgement. It’s a real shame.

  48. Gol durn, Terry W… You’re living in Texas? Might be hard; might not be… CT is feeling pretty cheerful these days, having defeated the wrestling lady once again. Lordy, I never want to see “Linda” again. Mercifully, my neighbors across the street have finally put their “Linda”signs in their dumpster.

Looking at this Petraeus stuff, and my husband is watching the Fox, god love (and help) him, and i think this is all just “Fuck me? Well, no… Fuck YOU!” Petreaus got caught with his pants down, and his brain was in those pants for a few moments, and he ain’t going down easy. This is now a battle between the Prez and a general… Remember that Petraeus is a Republican.

If I ever have to listen to the Krauthammer again, I may have to throw up.

Petraeus knew he was boffing someone he shouldn’t have been boffing. (Oh, well, who knows what his personal life is like? I’m kind of with Holly on this, I must say… How can she forgive him for this…?) Petraeus knew that THEY knew, and now they’ve got him on the witness stand, and he’s going to save his own hiney. He’s going to blame everyone else.

This battle is just beginning. So much for “winning.” Thank the Universe that we don’t have to hear from Romney again. He’s evidently disappeared totally from his website. Knew he always hated doing this.

Fox will go on about Benghazi forever… That’s all they’ve got.

    Gato

  49. Terri, I too am disappointed in McCain. I used to respect him and was sorry to see him saddled with the “Gotcha Queen” in 2008. Now as you say he’s just another sad old man who’s watching his Grand Ole Refusal party lose its grip.

  50. Gato, Austin is in the middle of Texas, a little west of Houston. El Paso is as far west as you can go in Texas, right on the border of New Mexico and across the river from Mexico.
I’m 73 already and I look forward to seeing a real change in this country before the next election. Reading M&H and all the positive posts you and others write keep my hopes up. It also helps when we can laugh at the audacity of the opposition. Jon Stewart’s take on any of their antics is priceless. He even made an interview with Mike Huckabee bearable and that’s saying a lot.

  51. PS – thank you for my bloggy friends here who helped me find out why we hadn’t heard from her recently!

  52. Hi everyone. I was not sure whether or not to share this news since it’s been a while since you’ve seen Grandma Katie here. However, this place and several people she knew here were very special to her. Grandma Katie passed away earlier this month. You may remember her for her characteristically smart posts, slightly plagued by typing issues from her stroke and her aging computer. She was special to me. I am better for having known her. She was in her early 80′s but still her passing was somewhat unexpected and swift according to her son. Fortunately it happened after a nice phone conversation with a family member and some ice cream.

On a happier note, Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday and my favorite Margaret & Helen season. I hope these fine women will choose to share something with us again this year!

  53. Would somebody please contact the powers that be and get “The Margaret & Helen Show” on TV!!!!!!

  54. I have to say I just loved this post, Helen. Every time I hear a Republican grumble about the election (and I’ve got some friends in my red state still whining and complaining), but when I hear it, my mind immediately shifts to Karl Rove flinging pooh from his zoo-cage. Love it!!

  55. Someone needs to tell McCain that he already lost the election to Obama. No one wanted him then and they sure don’t want to listen to the old coot now. What bitter bullies they are. They still don’t get it. The more they talk, the bullier they look. If bullier is a word.

  56. Hi, Terry W – I think Austin is kind of blue, also, isn’t it? Is that in the same county? Let’s just remember to hang in here with M&H, and not be complacent about our victory. We’ve got four years to hang tough… Shit; by the time of the next election, I’ll be seventy-three! And, goddess willing, I’ll be ornerier than ever. (Guess I better get a bit more serious about those “Silver Sneakers” classes at my local YMCA.)

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance… it’s so worth it.

    Gato

  57. My daughter has lived in Texas for several years, first south of Houston in Lake Jackson and recently in El Paso. When they first moved to El Paso she joked about although she couldn’t see Russia from her front porch she could see Mexico on her way to work. To her amazement most of her church members wish that El Paso could be annexed by New Mexico! The county she lives in is the only, from what she’s heard, Democrat county in Texas.
I thought that when people in Texas starting talking about seceding we should let them, then move the Democrats out of there to make room for any Republicans who wanted to move in.
Now that the dust has settled, as well as my stomach and nerves, I’m hoping that Congress will wake up and smell the BS that’s been shoveled around their work space. I’m planning to write to Boner and McTurtle to let them know that they need to work with our President to fix what’s broken. – Terry in Missouri

  58. Can I just say that John McCain and his wimpy sidekick Lindsey Graham are acting like total jerks? Being lectured to by John McCain, after he tried to foist Sarah Palin on us, is galling. He really needs to take a look in the mirror before he talks to anyone else about “judgement.” McCain seems more and more like a bitter old man who’s holding a giant grudge because he lost to Obama. Time to let it go.

  59. Gotta agree, Sidney – with both the thanks for all the wisdom and humor generated here… And with your statement that the GOP hasn’t learned anything of substance. The elephant can’t become a gazelle, no matter how much it may wish to attract gazelles… Or to fool the gazelles into thinking it’s one of them. (I think the latter is more the goal with this particular elephant.)

But I think WE may have learned a few things:

Nothing like good pointed wit to make things bearable.
Not everyone in the country is a self-destructive dolt, after all.
There is no way to “compromise” with bigots, racists, homophobes, plutocrats, or sexists.
The way forward is a path, and we need to stay on it!

    Pie for the porch!

    Gato

  60. [...] blog is here and it’s a hoot. The entry we love begins [...]

  61. To all of my wonderful buddies on the porch….I would like to say, thank you. Thank you for keeping me sane through the GOP election insanity. And to Helen and Margaret……for giving me hope through laughter.
Now…don’t think for a minute that the republicans are going to change anything EXCEPT their bullshit propaganda. The ONLY thing they learned from this election……is that they MUST do a better job keeping dems from voting and they really have to become much better liars to many more people.
They are backed into a corner of their own making, and are flailing desperately to survive as a party. They have learned nothing.
Had they been able to steal this election, they would be licking their chops just thinking about the many ways they would dismantle our social safety net and our way of life and handing this country over to the 1% on a silver platter.
Bobby jindle is on his way to defunding the Louisiana school system giving thousands of kids public school money so they can attend regilious schools, that don’t believe in science, that have text books that teach that the Loch Ness monster proves that evolution doesn’t exist, and that a Japanese fishing ship caught a dinosaur!
These people have not changed what they think or what they would do if given complete power. Don’t believe it for a minute.

  62. I agree Gato, sidney and anonymous. Mitt Romney has proven once again what a souless, heartless, clueless automaton he really is. He and Ryan have been completely graceless in defeat. And they would have been a disaster if they had won the election. It says something when they both lose their hometowns and home states.
As for the cretins signing secession petitions, I am sure they are the motley assortment of racists, birthers and nincompoops that every state has. We have plenty here in NY state.
And a shout out to Nate Silver for hitting the nail on the head with all his election predictions. He correctly predicted all 50 states, the popular vote within 1/2 percent, and the entire electoral college. A lot more accurate that Peggy Noonan’s “gut feeling” (don’t get me started on her); Dick Morris (what an appropriate first name) and Fox News. I have been amazed to learn they were actually believing their own bullshit! I thought they were just trying to bs the voters, but they bought it all hook, line and sinker! Really, the GOP and their true believers need to get out of the bubble and face reality–I’m starting to feel embarrassed for them.
But mostly I’m feeling good about our country.

  63. It’s really frightening, isn’t it…? Thinking of Romney taking this clueless attitude onto the world stage – let alone operating on the basis of it here at home – is a truly terrifying thought. And not only Jindal calling him to task, but “top Republicans” now admitting that he didn’t have any real “plan”… NOW they fess up…! What on earth would they have done if he had (heaven strike me for even saying this) “won”…?!

Personally, I’m quite happy with my “gifts”: four more years of a conscious, concerned, and extremely capable President, a fine new CT Senator, and a goodly number of new faces in Congress, many of them wearing lipstick. (Not quite enough, but – hey – maybe we’re getting somewhere…)

    Gato

  64. Romney is stuck on that 47% idea. Hey, they didn’t ruin him. HIs own narcissism did. Do not hold your breath waiting for him to see the light, even after years of therapy. I was in Michigan during the Romney years there. George joined up with other groups to fight racism and to do things stuch as get decent affordable housing for those who didn’t have any. Gift giving? At least George did not sound like a broken record such as “and get rid of”” which turned out to be Mitt’s favorite mantra. Mitt was true blue to his fellow “welfare queens”, the 1% with the magnificent tax breaks. And when Bobby Jindal takes you to task, you know your day is done!

  65. The president handled himself just fine today, even though he is hoping that enough republicans learned something from the election results he is aware that McCain and others are still playing to their base and searching for a scandle, any scandle that fox and the RWNJ web sites can run with. They are pathetic so are the republicans that are trying to figure out how they can dazzle the Latino community and others with just enough bullshit to fool them into voting republican. They now know that they can never win another presidential election selling the same crap, as the only people foolish enough to buy it are the minority. My faith in the intelligence of the majority, has been restored.

  66. Gato, I don’t feel sorry for Romney. He is finally showing his true core. He only feels disdain vor the Obama voters, pure disdain. Comments I heard today attributed to him sure do mirror the 47% comment. We voted for Obama because he is giving us stuff? Glad Ann decided this was his last turn.

  67. The only intelligent person on The View, EH?, that’s a real stretch of the imagination. uaw, even you make more authentic comments than she does. Now I don’t feel sorry for EH anymore.. sometimes I can be shallow that way.

  68. I’d mentioned in an earlier post how our local liberal radio station suddenly switched to all sports 24 hrs a day. The stationl is owned by Clear Channel who is owned by Bain Capital. Talk about viscious and petty. Our liberal radio channel was airing since before the 2004 elections and all of a sudden, after the Nov 6 elections, it was decided that liberal programming just wasn’t cutting it and was eliminated in our area. They must believe if you take away the public voice of their political opposition, the left and center will be less able to gain supporters, thus be less of a threat in the 2016 elections…

  69. Ladies again you have an AMAZING way with words!! Would you by any chance feel like telling us what you did for a living, besides the wonderful thankless loving job of parenting. I swear you should have been in politics or at least in the NEWS business!!! Wow I can just see you up there with Anderson giving out the ridiculist report!!! Maybe some useless heads would go rolling down by those cages at the zoo!!! I Love you Both, Good health always and keep writing, we need some clear thinking around here!!!!

  70. Terry in NY – There are those who have signed a petition to have NY secede. I was thinking since I do not wish to make another move in my life. What if we just send those who have signed the petition to Texas instead? I understand a number of people are signing on other state’s petitions raising their numbers! How do these people think they are going to make this secession work; that they would actually be able to survive economically or otherwise.

    Peace.

  71. See, I told you.. They found out. And by the way, I voted for Obama and I’m still waiting for my free pony ride and helium filled balloon.

    http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20121115/US.Romney/

  72. Hi again, Gato. I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I’m not too worried about the malcontents. Some of them will always be with us, but the rest will either fade away or realize the world is not going to end. The utter defeat of the Koch brothers and the other gazillionaires’ agenda has been very reassuring. I, too, am disgusted by the secession petitions. Such patriots, no? Proof they don’t really respect our constitution or their fellow citizens. Must suck to be them.
    Cheers.

  73. Sorry Gato…they don’t care if he’s black, white or half and half….they don’t like liberals…..some people think that not liking liberals is RACIST…..that’s like saying not liking ASSHOLE”S is RACISTS…..
    Damn…I must be RACIST…….got that Terri……

  74. good thing we have Israel’s back!!!!!!

  75. Hey, Terri – I don’t mean this as sympathy. NO WAY! I just want to protect my ass. Really. I mean it. The worst possible scenario for any society is to have a small number of really rich people, living in walled compounds, surrounded by great masses of unemployed, uneducated, religious fanatics, most of whom have guns. That would be Pakistan, or Afghanistan, or Oldwhitemenistan, or any of a number of countries we are trying to “support”…

I just keep thinking of the French revolution (inspired by us, I think I can correctly add). These “others” are not going away, and we have to figure out a way to deal with them. I think President Obama knows this, and he’s being stronger and stronger. Absolutely like that.

At least thirty states have evidently initiated secession petitions… Are they kidding??!! They just can’t stand having a black guy in charge. Or, at least, a half-black guy.

This is the greatest country in the world…? Good Goddess; help us all.

i lived through Bush, Jr, too, and I could hardly stand to hear him speak. (But there was something so innocent about him; so in over his head.) Fortunately, I don’t think we’ll have to hear Romney turning himself inside out to try to talk to the rest of us. At least not for a while. I am sure that he, and the lovely Ann, are so relieved that this is over. And that he didn’t win.
I do have some sympathy for the two of them. Can’t help myself.

And then… There’s Ryan… He’s not done yet. For that dude I have NO sympathy whatsoever.

    Gato

  76. OH that’s right…who on your side would have guns….that would be the Mexican drug cartels with the Fast and Furious guns……

  77. Yes terri…
“This is America, we go to the polls and vote for our leaders, and then we live with the results.”….
??????wasn’t there a bunch of bullshit about rioting if Romney won !!!!!!!
WTF are you going to do if the OLD WHITE MEN in the USA decide to riot….call in the U N …..

  78. UAW. Don’t waste any of your valuable time addressing me with your bogus scandals that use the Weekly Standard as a source. You want to believe the worst of tour government, be my guest.

  79. Yes Terri….
“Later evidence, however, revealed that U.S. officials had real-time updates from Americans on the ground in Benghazi, and that terrorists were immediately suspected.’
    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-i-made-susan-rice-talk-american-people-about-benghazi_663353.html

  80. Sorry Gato, I don’t have too much sympathy for those types. This is America, we go to the polls and vote for our leaders, and then we live with the results. Sulking and complaining are not productive. I lived through two terms of Bush, and I never felt like the right gave a damn about how progressives were feeling during those years. I am sorry if people are frightened, but they need to open their eyes and really try to understand what President Obama’s plans are. There’s nothing to fear and it’s time for them to man up and honor our tradition of elections.

  81. Hey, Terri, once again – As I said, I liked it, too. But I think it would be a mistake to think that half of the country is saying to itself, “Oh, gosh; I think we got it wrong this time.” I know my Libertarian neighbors are saying no such thing. They feel they’ve been screwed, and the country is going to hell in that basket… They’re worried; they’re afraid, and they’re angry. They feel their lives are no longer in their control. They don’t want to be ignored, any more than we felt we were. Nobody likes that.

I don’t quite know how to find that common ground, right this minute, but I hope we can, and we must, as the Prez has said – not by compromising, but by understanding, somehow… Put your head on this. And you, too, Sidney, Robert, and Pi and Peas, and other porch sitters… Maybe you, too, UAW. And, best of all, M&H. This is what we most need to work on, right now, and not one minute later.

    Gato

  82. Hi Gato!
He’s sounding strong and determined not to let the GOP roll over him. He struck exactly the tone I wanted to hear–he’s willing to listen to reasonsble proposals, but not the usual bs he normally gets from the other side.

  83. Hi, Terri – I liked that, too. Nice to hear the Prez say, basically, “If you want to try that stuff, you’re going to have to deal with ME.” And he means it!

    Gato

  84. Just listened to President Obama give a strong defense of U.N. ambassador Susan Rice. It was wonderful to hear him defend the reputation of one of his people. Take that John McCain and Lindsey Graham!

Only look at this fantastic zoo imaginary, God bless America where two sweet old ladies can combine such great inside with such great hilarity and God bless Margaret and Helen!

  96. To the uninitiated Christian thought will be dull and boring. Christians have discernment. Can see from both sides, cause they have one absolute truth. Selah

  97. Too funny that the comments on here have moved to that annoying Elisabeth on The View. She is just the worst. Her voice alone kills me.
I love the others on the show but have had to stop watching due to Miss Ignorance. She needs to go.

  98. She is ignorant.

  99. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is not a serious person. No need to feel sorry for her. She’s a big girl and she needs to own the dopey stuff she says. I don’t think she has ever had an original thought in her life. It’s obvious she gets her politics from Fox.

  100. Yes, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is evil.

  101. I had to stop watching The View because of Elisabeth. Just couldn’t stomach her anymore. I now watch The Talk.

  102. Everybody is beating up on Elizabeth H, now I feel sorry for her. She’s not evil like Ann Coulter aka Cruella De Ville… EH can be annoying though because she’s not authentic. She blurts out rightwing talking points.

What happened to the William F Buckley types in the conservative movement. I like a good debate where each side makes thoughtful and fact based counterpoints. I remember when one of his gay republican friends came out of the closet and he got a lot of news coverage. Buckley told him, coming out of the closet doesn’t mean you have to walk across the stage. That is typical Buckley. At his level, they don’t care what color you are or who you’re attracted to as much as they hate paying taxes for programs they feel aren’t getting a good return on investment.

  103. To Elaine on 11-12 @ 11:21 AM

  106. Dear Margaret and Helen,

Love your site and your insights. Happy to make a small donation. Love and best wishes from Dallas County, a little blue dot in this sea of idiocy…I mean Texas. Let’s hope I can sell my house before Texas secedes and loses $260 billion in Federal money. Then I can move back to Massachusetts where I can get married to my longtime partner.

    Take care, ladies.

  107. I had to google E. Hasselbeck since I don’t watch daytime tv. What did she do or say that’s so awful? This inquiring mind wants to know.
I’m also reading a lot about how Obama (whom I voted for) and the Democrat Party need to focus more on poverty in our country. We’ve managed to keep this issue off the table too long and it’s going to only get worse. Now that we’ve made it pretty clear that women, gays, and the middle class are people too, we need to take a look at all those people on the margins of our society, you know: “the least of these”. – Terry

  108. [...] Like a zoo, Fox News isn’t so scary once you realize the animals can’t get out of their cages But working together doesn’t have to mean believing everything you see on certain tv channels. [...]

  109. Elisabeth hasselbeck from The View is a complete moron. Why is this woman on tv? Please, the powers that be at The View…fire hasselbeck and hire Helen Philpot!!!!

  110. sidney- yes! on all counts.
We are still under preclearance rules here to keep from diluting the Native (minority ) vote with gerrymandering as well as court mandated language assistance, most particularly Yu’pik in areas with well over the piddly 5% required minority routine kicks in other provisions.
This is a big one. for all of us

  111. Alaskpi……..the GOP are saying that the VRA is not needed anymore and they want it wiped off the books. It is getting in the way of their voter suppression schemes. The SCOTUS will be hearing this soon, and god help us if they succeed.

  112. Afraid this fight is only just starting, and it will be ugly. Scalia and Alito are a foregone conclusion; we could hope Thomas will get a clue, but it seems unlikely after all these years. Roberts, on the other hand, is sort of the dark horse here. I don’t know what his past positions in arguments on this subject have been, you may know more. He certainly broke from the pack on the AHC deal, so I guess we will have to see. Trust the morons in Texas to have brought this suit, they are shamefully ignorant, unjust, and self-serving. We have GOT to get rid of Abbott and Perry, and I think Dewhurst ought to go too.

  113. Dear Helen and Margaret-
Thank for having us all in and allowing us so much latitude to yak between your posts.

I would rather hear from you more often :-) but greatly enjoy the community here .

For those who have paid attention to voter suppression issues, there is a run at important portions of the VRA taking shape under our very noses. My state has filed with the plaintiff.

    http://www.lawyerscommittee.org/projects/voting_rights/page?id=0073

I haven’t worked my way through it all yet, on the links at this site or the scotusblog site but it is very important.
In my state the argument seems to be that the gov wants the preclearance dealie chucked out rather than go to the trouble of meeting the criteria to “bail out” which is contained in the law.

  117. Good Lord no! He’s not liberal at all! He is not a progressive in any sense of the word. He IS a pragmatist, and won’t discard an idea just because it has a progressive flavor to it. My husband sez he is RePub lite, just like Clinton. But for heavens sakes, Barry Goldwater looks like a wildeyed liberal when compared with the current crop of RW nutjobs and fruitloops!

  118. Robert – my progressive radio station has the Buffalo Bills on (cuts in to a program in progress) just for the season I think. (Sister station carries Right Wing) Still have the regular line up (Press, Miller, Schutz, Rhodes and Hartmann) during the day and Ring of Fire on Sat & Sun night…so far. But I know that WPOJ in Portland, OR has changed to sports; no longer a progressive talk station. Portland a very liberal city! NYC has no left wing stations! Yes it is happening, IMO.

They say that progressive talk radio doesn’t make money (or demand for it) but most are “small stick” stations covering a small area. The advertizers would rather spend their money on larger stations covering a larger portion of the population. Can’t blame them.

But realizing the turn out of Dems this election and last why would there be no demand for left wing radio??? It is said for every 1000 hours of Conservative talk radio there is 100 hours of liberal talk radio. I would not be surprised if they are working to eliminate the left wing stations along with NPR. Are they stacking the deck the SOBs.

    Peace.

  119. From Democracy Now, an interview with Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West… their thoughts after the election.. worth watching because its what I’ve been saying all along, Obama is not a liberal.
“Rockefeller Republican in Black face”… http://www.democracynow.org/2012/11/9/tavis_smiley_cornel_west_on_the

  120. Has anybody noticed if their local liberal radio talk show channel has changed programming? I usually listen to Keep Hope Alive (Jesse Jackson) on Sunday mornings, but today as well as yesterday when Ring Of Fire radio (Mike P, Bobby Kennedy) was usually on, the programming was all sports, all day. Its still sports programming as I type. It would usually be re-runs of the weeks liberal radio shows on the weekends.

I know Clear Channel owns the channel I listen to. I’m wondering if they are retaliating for Obama’s win and cutting back on liberal show hosts? I’m anxious to hear if the normal weekly programming with Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann and Ed Schutlz, et al remains the same.

  127. ALERT to any newcomers to this wonderful, witty blog: there ARE intelligent comments despite the nonsense perpetrated by the crazies and the uglies. I just had to scroll way…WAY…down to find them. Thanks, Patty, for the words of encouragement just when I was about to give up.

  128. lori- please tell delurkergurl to check her email.I don’t know what will shake out. Sending best wishes…

  129. Hey Pi, do you still keep in touch with Jeuno Joe???? We haven’t heard from G-ma Katie in a while and we are starting to get a little worried. JJ kept in touch with her. We wondered if he has heard from her lately. Would you ask him for us?

  130. Hi Congenial Gang,

    My opinion and observations:

There is nothing quite so OVER as a national election when it’s OVER. Well, maybe Christmas, after all the shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, decorating and putting up with cranky relatives for the day and then the clean up. And of course the THUD of taking down and dismantling the tree to say nothing of deciding what to do with the monstrous ‘authentic object d’art’ Cousin Jake proudly brought us from Las Vegas.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the re-election of President Obama. I have thought right along that he is a fine man with the best interests of the whole country at heart. Besides that, he is highly intelligent and now has four years of experience under his belt in trying to “work with” the Republicans. He is no longer naïve about that, I’m sure.

The doom and gloom boys are already out in full force as if their viewpoint has ever solved any problems. Since President Obama no longer has to be concerned about re-election, he can break out the executive order pen as soon as the GOP starts dragging their feet (knuckles?) again. He can now concentrate his energies on getting the job done without the Hanging of the Crepe from the Right.

I only wish we had been able to pick up a few more House seats. It is still going to be near impossible trying to get even a little cooperation from that bunch. We have progressed a long way though and I have noticed that popular vote-wise, many of the former solidly red states are gradually turning toward shades of purple. That’s a good sign.

I do feel however that we should not let our guard down. And I don’t mean wasting time going off half-cocked on paranoid conspiracy theories. That’s the Right-wing’s specialty. We do know for sure now that the 1% money people are livid! Their very ‘raison d’etre’ is their money with the power and influence they expected it would buy. All those billions down the drain. For those whose entire identity is wrapped up in their net worth, it must truly be panic time. With the drop in the stock market since Election Day, I think we saw some of them scurrying to stash assets in Switzerland and the Caymans quick, quick before the Bush tax cuts expire, unless they think they can find a way to con President Obama into extending them. He’s not likely to fall for it this time around.

It has been my experience in my rather long life that trying to ‘reason’ with deeply ingrained philosophical, ideological and religious convictions is an exercise in futility as well as a waste of time. No amount of ‘clips’ and ‘proof’ from the expert evidence of metonymic rhetoric on Fox or in the social media is likely to change anyone’s perspective. Certainly not mine!

I don’t have much faith in fraudulent, scheming and weak historical injustices perpetuated because of traditional irredentist claims. It boils down to this: all people prefer to live rather than to die; to spend their days in a modicum of comfort rather than pain and deprivation. That requires a few basic necessities. In civilized society it is called humanity caring for humanity.

Aloha! :-) Namaste. Shalom. Saalam. Peace.

    Auntie Jean

    P. S. Need I emphasize? LET’S STAY VIGILANT!!!!!!!

  131. One more comment . . . sorry lovely ladies with my favorite new blog that’s getting a billion comments because FARK gave you love . . . this one’s just so I can do it without checked boxes, in hopes I won’t keep getting endless emails about irrelevant comments. Much love and happy strolling!

  132. Right on ladies! Right on!

  133. Does anyone remember Mittens Robme, the great business genius who was going to turn the country around with his colossal ego, his extensive business experience and his state-of-the-art voter supression program called “ORCA”? I get hot flashes just thinking about what a doofus he turned out to be.

Here is a prime example of how he managed to blow off his foot. It’s a hoot.

  134. SkylEr- I thought it was a gentle rebuke to me spelling your screen name incorrectly:-)
Jim Wright delights me over and over. His smackdown of Mr Aiken made me laugh so hard my dog got up and ran out of the room.

    Cynthia- thank you!
Mr Rich deserves praise for coining the term “post fact” Republican-right? Romney campaign along with the whole of his argument there.
He did point to something else we should stay very aware of a couple weeks ago though

As Colorado Blue, sidney, and others have said it is not over. The 2014 midterms will be very important , right along with the day to day keeping up.

The one and only Representative in the House for my state, Mr Don Young, Congressmen only for those who vote for him, affectionately known as Yon Dung, could do with some of those letters you all are writing also, too. :-)

  135. I made a quick attempt to find if this had been posted already. If so it is worth reading twice.

  136. That was me, Skyler, Alaskapi. — when it said E. I was typing in the info when it decided to “send.”

  137. Ha Alaskapi. I love Stonekettle Station’s blog as well. Guess I’m not the only “hated one” now that the “party of hate” lost the election. I’m still laughing at Stonekettle’s blog about Todd Aikan where he said that if a woman can shut that down in cases of rape, that sounds like birth control and he wondered if the pope was aware of that.

  138. Jim at Stonekettle does it yet again!

  139. Peas…..as long as the republican party learns how to say “we hate you, you mooching spics”, in Spanish, then everything will be good for the next election. LOL …..I just love the sites you post, and I have no clue how to do that. I’m on an iPad, so I don’t even know if i could.

  140. How wonderful! I’m so happy that I stumbled onto your blog; thank you for taking time our of your day to share your insights. :D

  142. I have been making more than just “extra income” from an invention I’ve been peddling to the conspiracy theorists.
They are the antecedents of the torch carriers in Young Frankenstien, an historical documentary concerning a period of time of the gop.

It was easily determined that they were experiencing interference in receiving clear signals from Mars while wearing their Reynold’s Wrap hats.
I watched one of them and took note of the facial twitches, grunts, angrily puzzled expression and sweat.
I then realized that they were suffering from OCD which manifests itself in neurotically blaming President Obama for everything that has ever occurred in the 6,000 years of their world’s history.
What I did was asked one of them for permission to inspect one of their “Truth Caps”.
I used oven mitts to avoid any infection.
I had lined this cap with pennies and asked to CTer to put it back on.
He immediately wore a wide smile with even more facial tics.
I knew I had something so, I went to the bank and bought rolls of pennies.
I then went around to all the “myth robme” rallies and set up a stand.
I sold these rolls of pennies to them @ 2 rools for $3.00.
I then took their caps and lined them with pennies.
I ekplained to them that the copper in the pennies would enable them to pick up clear signals from Pluto with the explanation that that was where the actual headquarters were for the campaign.
I made so much more money than I expected as, when one of them told another, it spread like wildfire, almost as fast as unfounded rumors in that crowd.
Now, I did have to wear shin pads during these events to protect my legs from the vast forest of constantly jerking knees.
I realized early on that I can be prepared to make a vast fortune during the next election cycle so, I have rented warehouses around the country, mostly in the red(neck( states.
I will be acquiring bridges and swampland and stiocking them in these warehouses.
I expect to be able to retire after raking in all that easy money.

  143. Skyler……the republicans not only have the ability to lie to their supporters without blinking an eye, it appears they also have no problem LYING to themselves!

They also believe that if they can explain the conservative ideology to the Latino population in Spanish, that they can win them over, because once the Latinos understand that giving up their Medicare benefits so the billionaires can keep their taxes low, the problem will be solved. They are delusional to the extream. Really.

  144. JC-
The whole thing is long and complicated and would try the patience of even those who were interested.
Also- I realize looking at how I said that I have left the appearance that the turning-red here thing was fully on the doorsteps of the Ds. As much as I think the failure of the state Ds to understand what was going on contributed considerably to the Native population shifting away from the party, I also think the standard and accepted notion that the oil boom changed demographics enough to shift us played a part, though not nearly as much as many think.
    Short story:
Against the backdrop of multiple landmark settlements in land, subsistence rights, and the like coupled with the federal government’s abandonment of assimilation policies (starting under Nixon almost unbelievably!) Ds here missed the primary difference Alaska Natives had/have with traditionally D civil rights issues :
    from section 1.3-
“In contrast to the civil rights movement of American blacks, Native Americans sought to mitigate the injustices perpetrated against them mainly by pursuing political self-determination, in the form of tribal self-rule.”
    http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/civil-rights/
and through inattention and oversight lost the larger Native community. It is a distinction which eludes Ds in large numbers here yet.
The *saving* or *helping* was in trying to apply civil rights notions of what to do for disadvantaged persons as individuals while ignoring the group’s intention to stay whole. There is some similarity here to the beginning-to-be-understood downside of colorblind polices elsewhere but I would have to think more on how much…
It is not to say that the community became Rs though. The Rs are no friend of the community but Rs like Senator Stevens and Senator Murkowski have filled in plenty of gaps the State will not for Native communities and have thus become the enemy-we-know.
Personally, I am mixed race, with a foot in 2 worlds, both of which are full of the good, bad, and the ugly. For me, the Ds still present a better chance for resolution of age old problems but locally an awful lot of them are pretty clueless.

Mageen- I looked up the Murray Energy guy and read his lil prayer and all. Whoa! what a doof!
What’s up with rich -job-providers who blame the President, any President, for shifts in the whole market? If people are relying more on natural gas, where was he in cutting himself into that market? Isn’t that what the so-called smart ones do?
    Sheesh.

  145. Even though I didn’t post my pro-Obama views on Facebook or rub them in anybody’s face, or say na-na-na-na-na after he won, I’ve been “unfriended” on Facebook, and I’ve got 3-4 other friends who have lost friends over the election (although I think these weren’t really friends, but who am I to say?) I think I will order a T-shirt that says: I voted for Obama and got unfriended. Even though Romney bashed women, the middle class, gays, the military, latinos and all immigrants, blacks, all minorities, basically everyone except for rich, white men, and belonged to an anti-woman cult, and even though some republican senatorial candidates thumbed their noses up to rape (and would have changed the laws to make it a non-crime if they could have), these oh-so-smart republicans cannot understand why so many in the above-mentioned bashed groups didn’t vote for Romney and are convinced it’s my fault. Oh well, no tears shed here. I went out to breakfast with one of my Canadian friends yesterday and people in the cafe heard us talking. They were complete strangers, but came over to shake my hand. Proud to meet an American who supported Obama, and some said they wished they had been able to vote as well.

  146. Apparently, the FBI was monitoring Petraeus’s emails and that’s how the affair was discovered. So, who is monitoring the FBI’s emails, the NSA or is HSA? We should also realize everything we do through the internet or electronically on our phones is being archived. There is no privacy anymore. None. The Military/NSA is building a very large facility in Utah that is where the data will all be archived. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/03/ff_nsadatacenter/all/

When you call your bank and enter the account and pin # into the phone, all that data is being archived. The entire string of numbers. People should also realize, all our calls are also being recorded. So when you tell a family member where the house key is hidden or what the combination on a lock is or something personal about your life, just remember that info is out there to be resurrected whenever you become a target of investigation. All it will take is a breach of that information by some rogue employee or hacker to cause some real security issues for all of us.

1984 is here. I don’t much like this future. The younger generations don’t seem to care though. They tell everything they do as though they’re a Kardashian, only without the million dollar contracts. There is no anonymous behavior anymore. When we know we are being watched, we act different. But its being sold as its for our own safety and welfare. People think reality shows are just on TV. We are all in a reality show now. Some of the internet companies are now offering home monitoring. Do people think those cams are off just because they think they turned them off when they came home? How will you know they’re really off?

  147. OMG! You, Margaret and Helen, are Brilliant!! So glad my friend, Juanita Jean over at the World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, turned me on to you all!! Thanks for the uproarious LOL’s!!!

  151. Obama’s re-election is going to bring out the crazies. Today, I was out walking my dog. This Land Rover pulled up next to where I was. Two men were in it. They were looking at something ahead of them. Then one opened the door and said to me, the guy up on the corner looks like he has a rifle. By the time I looked he was gone.

They followed him in their car. Later I saw them parking in front of the bldg I live in. They told me they’d called the authorities. Apparently, other people had already called him in when he was crossing the bridge, about 30 blocks from where we saw him. We don’t know what he had in his rifle case, but it sure caused concern.

I think were going to see lots of people pushing the boundaries of laws they don’t like.

  152. Hey, porch people! Take a moment to listen to this. There is a coal mine owner who just laid off 160 people and blamed it all on Obama. Yeah, this close to all the holidays! I guess he was afraid he would have to buy turkeys for all his employees and decided it would cost too much. I think this is the same guy who docked his miners their pay when they were forced to stop work and pose behind Romney at a campaign stop. If you think McTurtle and Boner should not get away with one damn thing, how about letting this guy know he can’t get away with this chicanery. Its the Murray Mining Co. Please feel free to Google them.

  153. Robert…….I hear ya and was thinking the same thing. The conspiracy theory’s that the GOP could of twisted this story into before the election would of been gold for them. I wouldn’t put anything past the republican party.

  154. Does anybody else find the timing of Petraeuss’s resignation interesting? He’s a darling of the Republicans and the military industrial complex (and an accommodation of Obama to show he’s open to promoting people who are affiliated with the opposition)…You can’t tell me that people high up in both parties didn’t at least hear rumors. The R’s probably thought if they exposed it before the election, it would harm Romney’s chances of being elected. If they thought it would affect Obama’s chances, they’d been all over it before the election… Just surmising.

  155. I don’t watch Faux Noise but I’m now going to have to to check out Brett! I’m glad you mentioned the “spelling” as I had just skimmed over that special word!

  156. “go ahead and stomp. I don’t care.
Gloat some if you want. Enjoy the party after all the hard work.
But do , please do , be wary of whatever it is which being part of a majority can do to we humans that forgets the humanity of our foes.”

I like that part. Why, maybe some are wondering. Because I remember how I felt in 2004 when GW won his 2nd term. Whatever happiness I feel is tempered about Tuesday’s win, is tempered with that memory. Because I fully well know we may very well be in that position in 2016. By that time, we’ll know if our win was what we hoped it would be or did we just elect the smile we preferred.

  157. Colorado Blue, I’m going to take you up on writing to Boner and McTurtle.
They do have to open their mail, or at least pay someone to do it for them. I wonder if they wear asbestos gloves for some of them. I’m certain that Robme and Lyin’ Ryan had asbestos pants during the campaign.
But seriously, I harbor no ill will to my Republican friends and family and I want us to all work as hard on getting Congress to cooperate and compromise as we worked on getting Obama re-elected. – Terry (a Blue Missourian)

  158. Curious pi, what in the world fo your dems think they saved you from? Sid said to UAW that the Dems nat’l kept troll w in a pension by rescuing the auto industry. I’ll rephrase: you get to have a pension despite voting against your own best interests! The man’s an obnoxious fool!

  159. Sidney- No, I don’t mean no celebration!
I think we should dance and shout.
( I can’t do that from rooftops anymore so will leave it for the youngsters.)
I’m hoping we have done more than dodge a bullet, that we have really turned a corner. I’m so far left leaning I know things will never make it to my preferences but am hopeful we can drag ourselves back to something approximating a true middle.
I’m very wary of any helping-and-saving stuff though :
    What you said here
“You took a hit, and like a wounded animal, you try to bite the person that had come to help you”
along with the rest of it isn’t celebrating though to me.
It is more on the order of lecturing-the-ingrate-saving-the-dimwitted type stuff like the asshat Rs pulled on us after Reagan’s 2nd win and Bush2s 2nd one and very, very like the colonial attitude I live with everyday here.
UAW is quite capable of taking care of himself – go ahead and stomp. I don’t care.
Gloat some if you want. Enjoy the party after all the hard work.
But do , please do , be wary of whatever it is which being part of a majority can do to we humans that forgets the humanity of our foes.

  160. Alaskapi….no, I don’t get your point.. Are you saying that I shouldn’t be celebrating our win? That the American people didn’t repudiate the conservative agenda? I know that all our prayers have not been answered, and Obama could get sucked into the republicans “coming to their senses” crapola. And he could let us down. It’s possible. But compared to the damage that the rightwingers would of done to our country and our lives had they won, I feel that we have missed the bullet for now. We just have to be involved, very involved in the 2014 midterms. The RWNJs are not giving up or going away, they are planning to get a conservative majority in the midterms and then take the whitehouse in 2016 and implement the ledgslation they were hoping to shove down our throats this year.

  161. UAW…….here is how a budget becomes law:

How Does the Federal Government Create a Budget?
There are five key steps in the federal budget process:

Step 1: The President submits a budget request to Congress

Step 2: The House and Senate pass budget resolutions

Step 3: House and Senate Appropriations subcommittee

    “markup” appropriations bills

Step 4: The House and Senate vote on appropriations

    bills and reconcile differences

Step 5: The President signs each appropriations bill

    and the budget becomes law

So don’t get too excited about the House committee passing ryan’s ridiculous budget.

  162. Sidney-
You didn’t get it, did you?
I don’t care if you chew UAW up and spit him and then stomp on the remains.
Nor was I saying that WE didn’t win by a nice tidy majority of both electoral and popular vote margins.
I was asking you to be wary of the majority-saving-the-unwashed crap.
It turns both ways and is not pretty from anyone.
As part of a permanent minority I get damn sick of it all. American Indians/Alaskan Natives make up 1.7% of the US population. Here in Alaska we make up 15-20% depending on how you count and our numbers skew the whole country’s.
The Alaskan Democratic Party has lost almost all the Native vote , except old hanger ons like me, from just such language/behavior.We were a blue state before Dems started “saving” us.

  163. Alaskapi…..you like UAW? Good for you. May your friendship continue to blossom. Although I have my questions regarding a majority of the voters putting little Bush in the whitehouse…twice, there is no doubt that a clear majority voted Obama in for a 2nd term. The republicans win when the turnout is small, when more Americans get involved in the process, there is no doubt that we are a progressive country and want to move foward. And Nixon……? Well we learned a lesson from that mistake. Really

  164. …….and Carl Rove and the others in the fauxfox zoo are still lying. It has been 3 days !!!! OMG !!!
How can their polls be so wrong ? They are so dazed and confused. They made up their own special polls so they would know THEIR truth. Well, Carl, if you only poll 100 angry old white men who fornicate with farm animals, you would most definitely see a win for the Mitt-ster. These are the same people who hate women ( obviously) and believe that RAPE is God’s will and letting a women die in childbirth is ok with them. These are the same people who can’t see past their angry old racist white noses.

The ridiculousness (maybe they can get on that MTV show) of it all is that Carl is out there bald face lying, saying the Democrats were voter supressing by putting on mean and nasty ads about the Mitt-ster. Really ?? You and Crossroads and the Koch bros and pumpkin head Trump and all the other mess of billionaires spent mega dollars on a lying smear campaign second to none in history and it failed. The only voter suppression going on, you two dumb-asses ( Rove and Limbaugh) , was in RED states where there were Tea Bagger governors. It is like the first debate all over again. Lie,lie,lie……..get caught in the lie and then lie again.

I sort of feel sorry for old Mitt and Ann. I am sure that the smoke blowing up their collective butts was non-stop…..”you’re gonna win in a landslide, all you need is an acceptance speech, you will get 300 bazillion electorial votes”. I’m sure Ann was already deciding how she was going to decorate the rooms for “the help” with ironing boards and she had probably already been to Walmart so she could stock the pantry with tuna.

When you live in a parallel universe bad things happen. The Tea Party can’t handle the truth…….how very sad. The Tea Baggers are like dinosaurs who will become extinct. The country has spoken ( and apparently so have the Baggers in congress) We need to hold our Bagger congress people’s feet to the fire. Bombard their offices with phone calls, emails. Do it weekly or monthly. I suggest writing an actual letter to McConnell and Boehner. They won’t take your calls from out of state or accept your emails, but they have to open the mail. Hold them accountable for their obstruction and their fillibustering. Pay attention the what Congress is doing and not doing. We are just getting started. 2014 mid-terms are just around the corner and we have to start now. Colorado, we are stuck with that worthless Bagger Coffman for another term, but we can insist on accountability. And we must re-elect our 2 Senators.

  165. At least Bush the Lesser stayed away from the fray. If he had stuck his nose in as he did in Iraq the Rethugs would have suffered an even worse defeat.
You have to give him some credit for not becoming the latest lightening rod of the general public that finally came to terms with the R’s incompetence by booting them to the curb. In 2014, the House will be next toilet for cleaning..

  166. .
    .
    This is just typical R&R.

    ORCA:

How the Romney Campaign Suppressed Its Own Vote.

‘The fact that the Romney campaign spent more than $100 million on services from political consulting firms close to his family senior staff — services that we imagine were not vetted through a rigorous contracting process — couldn’t have anything to do with this and other failures, could it? Thank goodness the Republicans nominated a savvy businessman with so much private sector management experience to run this thing. Just imagine how badly it would’ve gone under the direction of some hippie community organizer!
    . ;)

  167. Hee hee hee thought I recognized you! There ARE things in life that are not politics! BTW don’t let UAW drag you into his swamp, not worth it in any way. Come vist the porch once in a while amiga!

  168. Typical, knee-jerk comment. “Blame Bush”. Well, it WAS Bush’s fault, for crying out loud. Who else? The situation existed–the worst recession in 80 years–before Obama took office. Whose fault was it, the Easter Bunny’s?

It’s funny that Bush never seems to have to take the credit or the blame for anything, since he and his administration blamed Clinton for eight year. Geez.

  169. Sidney-
you want to tell UAW to STFU or go TP some other porch by all means do so but please don’t invoke the “majority” dealie.
The majority was busy saving the rest of us when they voted in Nixon, Reagan, and Bush2 (the second time ).
I didn’t want or need them *saving* or *helping* me.
Don’t want to go there now with the other side.

  170. UAW-
A whole 10% of the time?! Wow! :-)
No, not really, not Mr Reid’s “fault”
More like Mr Reid’s strategy to stay out of a worse quagmire than already existed and to keep things moving along without the likely showdown some of the Rs like Paul Rand wanted.
That is not a bad thing in and of itself.
Contrary to what people have been saying this country has been this divided many times before- some of these strategies have kept us putting along on idle while we duke it out.
The spin from all over the map on the lack of a budget resolution needs to be dumped and we, us everyday people, need to learn more about the whole budget dealie works, legally and strategywise.
We do ourselves no favors by comparing it all to household budgets, personal checking accounts and all the horsepunky that is rolling around.
For a nation of laws, not men, we sure are determined to ignore what law is, how it works, or doesn’t…

  171. Dr. dot………Greta got some plastic surgery several years back, but surgery can only do so much. Did you know she is a member in the cult of Scientology?

  172. UAW…….you lost. Why don’t you shut your pie hole already? What are you trying to prove, that the MAJORITY of Americans are smarter then you? You took a hit, and like a wounded animal, you try to bite the person that had come to help you. But your own kind far from helping, will tear you to shreds.
Look, Obama saved your pension, and what was left of your health care. Romneys bankruptcy would of left you flapping in the breeze. And then you were offered a job……and you turned it down? It was my tax dollars that saved your ass, giving you plenty of time to come to this board and fling poo.
You are the very moocher that the republicans talk about. You, of all people deserve to have your own kind tear you to shreds. And maybe you’ll get your wish if the economy takes another tank in the future when the GOP runs the show and a “let Detroit go bankrupt” president does just that.

  173. Speaking of Mrs. Van Susteren, I remember her from the days when she worked for CNN. What the bloody hell happened to her face? She looks like a political caricature of Tip O’Neill, bless her heart.

  174. jeez Whirled…what’s next…..a repeat of Al Gore’s…..”republicans have 49 chromosomes”……
and people complain about the language Conservatives use…….
    OH that’s right….liberals can’t discriminate……

  175. OK Lori….are you talking about the Budget control act passed 8-2-2011…..
the bill that raised the debt ceiling and gave us sequestion………..are you saying sequestion is now the budget????????

    guess what….NO BUDGET…..

  178. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Lori…keep trying…..

  179. LMAO….
“let the four more years of blaming Bush begin”…..
“how will Obama handle the myriad of problems he inherited from himself”…..

  180. I think the people in Florida need to take a long, hard look at their governor and other officials. They cannot seem to run an election and they are becoming a laughing stock. Their disgraceful attempts to suppress the Democratic votes has made the results from their state irrelevant. People in Florida deserve better and should not have to stand in lines for 6-7 hours and then read multi-page ballots.

  181. Doesn’t that strange looking one in the cage at fox noise, brett baier look like a televaginalist who hangs around in city park men’s rooms?
And, yes I DID spell that word correctly.
    After all, I invented it.lol

We’re not s’posed to politickle at polling places so, I wore my Sox cap as a subtle “In yo face, mofo” statement.

Being a veteran and a REAL American, of course I voted for Prez O.
I had contemplated writing in someone else’s name as, she is one of the prettiest, most intelligent and gracious First Ladies we’ve ever been fortunate to have.
I would have butt, I didn’t want to waste a needed vote for THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB~~my homey.

  182. UAW… there WAS NO VOTE! please, please , please, if you do NOTHING else this off season READ!

    There was NO 100- 0 .. no 99- 0 noooooooooooo VOTE! They passed a budget in committee……

  183. HI Alaskapi…..
I agree with you more than with the others here……(1 out of 10 times)(HAHA)
the statement started “now we need to pass Obama’s budget”
    I pointed out that the senate vote was 99-0….didn’t pass…….not Obama’s fault….Reid’s fault……

Lets get this done in a balanced fair way.

  186. Charm offensive, indeed! LOL

  187. Lori….raising the debt ceiling is not passing a budget……
it’s just getting another credit card….

  188. Fiscal Cliff? Why is allowing Bush’s tax cuts to expire called the Fiscal Cliff? Sounds like a Frank Luntz creation.

  189. Susana J. Sturgis: I highly recommend the establishment of a 12 Step Program for GOPers. We might even start with whether or not they hate their mothers . . . based on all their fixation on anything to do with women. Frankly, I think the whole idea of jumping off their train wreck scares them more than anything else. They would rather stand on a flaming deck and die. Sigh. What a waste!

  190. Interesting. The right ranted and raved that Obama could win re-election but lose the popular vote. Turns out they were wrong. The only modern president to do that was Bush. However, in the house race the R’s lost the popular vote but kept the majority. IOKIYAR I guess.

Senator Ron Johnson blames an ignorant electorate for Obama’s win. I see they’re already working the charm offensive for next time! smh…

  191. Obama knows what its like to struggle. I am agree with “Unlike the zoo, trips to Fox News should probably be few and far between”.

  196. lori! Good on you for the Ohio work!
Oy and ugh on Alaska election stuff.
Small light in the mess is that
Mr Obama got almost 42% of the vote here this time, up from 38% in 2008 when our worst governor ever was the VP candidate on the other ticket .

Bad news is we lost our Bipartisan Working Group majority in the State Senate.( My state Senator was the only Rep or Sen in the whole state who did not have to run after redistricting and he’s a great guy.)
That is REALLY bad news for many, many reasons. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
Our local races went ok- they were in October. We are in decent shape here in my blueish purple part of Alaska . Sometimes I am extra glad we are a home rule state ( constitutionally conferred home rule- totally anti Dillon’s rule ) and that I live in a unified home rule borough. We cannot afford to ignore state politics but we can do more to take care of ourselves than most or all other places without state top down management.

  197. From Mr. Van Susteren to Mr. Ingraham

I can’t watch the animals in this zoo anymore. They are out of the cage already.

  198. Mr. Van Susteren is doing a bit on President Obama “going overseas while there is a crisis at home”. Give me a Effin break. He is never ever disconnected from what us going on in DC. AF1 is a mobile White House. Do all of you conservative posting here really support that shit. I watch MSNBC but I recognize the slant, Fox News pretends there is no slant and thinjs you are all idiots who don’t notice the slant. You want comipromise? I’ll leave MSNBC and you leave FOx and we’ll meet at CNN. How about we start there?

In-Effin-fox- believable. Fox is what is wrong with our country right now.

  199. Robert-
i don’t know very much really but I keep plugging away at it.
    I think this:
    http://assets.opencrs.com/rpts/98-721_20081120.pdf
    is very readable and useful.
As best as I can see the Ds have been avoiding dealing with what would be necessary reconciliation legislation to get a budget resolution passed. Some even believe they would never be able to agree on reconciliation language to get started on it.
See starting around p 21 (document page, not pdf page ) about how that has been used for deficit reduction- NOT the best way to go about it with the fundamental disagreements between current R and D . Somewhere in there it talks about sequestration , which we will be facing in upcoming new year after the hoobobby crap that super committee pulled this last year in not working anything out together.
The 1974 law setting up the requirement for a budget resolution really doesn’t require one- it simply disallows certain Congressional action until there is one.

  200. Margie, thanks for the video. Is there any politician on the R side that can project the sincerity and authenticity that President Obama does, when talking with the average Joes and Janes of our country? He’s been there. He knows what its like to struggle. I don’t see Romney being this genuine or candid in anything he says, except when he’s talking to his millionaire/billionaire friends behind closed doors, referring to the 47%.

  201. Yes, those fine (!!) young Castros! And Mr Gilberto Hinojosa, party chair, is great too! Ready for blue, any day!

  202. Oh TX is turning purple… no doubt. We have two rising stars right here in SA. I have out of TX politics for 7 years, so I need to bone up on the goings on… Many of the people I knew when I was here have left! I gotta get back in da loop! ;-)

  203. Reblogged this on Collectables and commented:
More zany thoughts from my favorite crazy old ladies.

  204. Well it sounds awesome, and you guys were probably instrumental in our taking OH and breaking the Romney camps back! Welcome home and hope you thaw out – thanks for your efforts, too! Now, how can we kick Perry and Abbot out? Isn’t it great that we eroded the supermajority here?! Brush up on your Spanish and let’s turn out the Latinos y Latinas! 2016 here we come!

  205. JC, Ohio was cold, wet and tiring! LOL

But I tell ya I’ve been doing this a longggg time and I knew when I came back to TX if we didnt win Ohio it just wasn’t winnabe.

The ground game was fan—freakin—tastic. I was in 4 counties (one PA) in 2-3 1/2 days and never had one second of difficulty or confusion or difficulty from the moment I hit the ground in Cleveland. Seriously, we have it going on! I couldn’t believe how percise their GTV info was. Things have improved so much , even in 4 years! I met wonderful people, many of whom could be my kids! LOL It was as a great experience.

Waving to PI… how did you fair in your state and local races?

  206. alaskapi, your knowledge of the system is vast. I admire that. I read that NY Times article and must say, I’m still confused. I read your synopsis and still don’t understand the process. What are the Dems afraid of having to deal with if they begin the process and just what would the R’s be able to spring on them that makes it something to be avoided. That’s about all I could get out of it. Not because it wasn’t clearly written but because I’m just not familiar with parlimentary(sp) processes and the formalities that must occur.

  207. Lori you are wasting your time yakkiting with the UAW troll. Not much doubt about how the American auto industry got into trouble: management had their heads clean up their collective hineys, and if UAW is any indicator, the “tradesmen” are WORSE!!

    How was Ohio?! ;)

  208. Patty-
Unlike many, many here I like UAW.
I often want to pinch his face off about some of his ideas but I like him.
( And sometimes I’d like to kick you in the shins too, UAW, but I think that feeling is mutual, eh? :-) )
It was the UAWs who were the best coworkers when I started working in what was then called non-traditional-work-for-women 40 years ago
If I could do my job well and not endanger anyone else in the trench they left me alone , even came to my aid when the macho asshats got out of line.
Didn’t need their help but appreciated it.
Different world he and I come from than so many here.
Don’t care if he agrees with me either, do I UAW? :-)

  209. Happier when we can not just leave them behind but bury them…

  210. Don’t let the trolls scare you away. this is a good place filled with good thinkers. Ignore them and stay true to Helen and Margaret.

    Helen and Margaret 2016

  211. Don’t let those name calling morons discourage you, Ter, they have nothing else to fall back on!

  212. Alaskapi that was a wonderful answerr but I fear he will simply argue for the sake of arguing and THAT is the real problem. I also think that is what Helen is really talking about. If you read her stuff she is actually a very deep thinker who uses humor perfectly to make a point. Animals can be unreasonable because they don’t know any better. Thank goodness the Fox Animals are caged – meaning they weren’t able to get out and affect the outcome of the election. It is safe to go look at them now because we (Helen) realizes that they aren’t as dangerous as she thought. The American people decided to think for themselves. The animals, for now, are caged. IMHO

  213. Goodie for you! I for one haven’t missed you a bit and wish you would go live with her forever- but maybe she doesn’t like you enough! Very sorry to see your handle pop up so often, nixed your vote for that worthless f*ck Romney with enthusiasm, and could make a case for you and your sort being EXACTLY what is wrong with America: a grifter who wants to preserve his own gravy train while making damn sure no one else gets a damn thing you benefitted from!! Bah! Flushing your shit just like I do my own you selfish worthless racist troll! President Obama is easily worth 500 of YOU! Maybe more!

  214. Great comparison…especially with all the shit they throw around

  215. Robert-
there are as many as want to be. some are fine… others not so much…

    UAW-
“Prior to 1974, Congress had no formal process for establishing a coherent budget. When newly-elected President Richard Nixon began to refuse to spend funds that the Congress had allocated, Congress needed a more formal means by which to challenge him. The Congressional Budget Act created the Congressional Budget Office and directed more control of the budget to CBO and away from the President’s Office of Management and the Budget. The Act passed easily as the administration was embroiled in the Watergate scandal and unwilling to provoke Congress”
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_budget_process#Budget_resolution
See also the section on budget resolution at that link

Very important information about what the Congressional budget dealie really is is there
Binds Congress to a process but is actually not a mandatory act.
Both sides have been playing games about it or trying to avoid playing games with it for quite awhile now- very partisan stuff going on . Rs really being snots about it and twisting the issues, Ds circling wagons and trying to keep from getting bound up in required resolution process which is a frickin mess- the process , as you can see from first article, is fine and dandy if people are really trying to sort out a real budget resolution but not if they are not.
Having no budget resolution is neither here nor there in many ways- regardless of what Rs are saying. It grows out of the idea that it lends coherence to a vast project but appropriations don’t need a budget to happen.
So- it is really not what Rs are saying and some not what the Ds are saying and I suggest we have more important crap to deal with than the poo flinging this whole thing has engendered.

Short answer, Mr Reid has not “passed” a budget. Longer answer- it is all much more complicated than that and he doesn’t have to anyway.

  216. Comic deliciousness. I adore your comparison here. Very Animal Farm. You may want to apologize to zoo animals in general, though. They tend to be kinder and more intelligent than FOX News squawk box Chatty Cathy dolls. Glad to have discovered your blog :-)

  217. UAW- haven’t caught up with the whole “conversation” here but as per a real budget resolution ?

  218. How many Anonymous’s are there?

  219. Gato, I love your comment about scorpions. I know several people who voted for Romney. Most don’t especially like him, but they’re convinced that President Obama, liberals, non-Christians, feminists, et al. are taking the country down. On other subjects these people are smart and interesting, but we sure can’t talk about politics. They’re genuinely scared and there’s nothing I can say to make them less scared. Their facts are not my facts. They won’t believe my facts. They are like alcoholics who live in their own world and are terrified of losing their fix, which in this case isn’t alcohol but their view of the world. I have no idea how to ease their fears, so we talk about anything besides politics. I wish I knew how to get through to them.

  220. “…They have the largest collection of blonde, bulemic middle school girls posing as reporters with names like Megyn, Gretchen, Cheryl and Dana…”

LOL…this is the best site EVER

  221. Helen and Margaret, you are so spoiling us! Great piece! Just loved it.
Colorado Blue, love how passionate you are. You have me convinced, and I thought I already was!

Here is hoping Fnews really goes through some soul searching. I remember when the station came on the scene during the Reagan years and people started to wonder why they were appearing so partisan and the reply then was that the office of the presidency was not being respected enough by the other media outlets and they needed to restore its luster. I did not know that the deference was meant for the republican presidents only, democrats need not apply. That is when I stopped trusting them. Shame on them how they treated this president. The country is leaving them behind.

  222. Great post, M&H. Love the zoo analogy. Of course, I find both FauxSnooze and zoos appalling so it wasn’t a stretch for me. Love you both.

  223. Fark just introduced me to your blog. I don’t know if I’ll have time to follow this wonderful bit of writing, but I will certainly make every effort. I hope you get many more readers from this.

    Grinning like a Cheshire cat . . .

  224. Hey, Terry W… It’s so tiresome to have to do this kind of stuff, isn’t it? But I think it’s wise. Your Dad was right to be aware of the dangers around him, and to prepare for them. Thanks for sharing that.

    Gato
    http://www.partyandsoul.wordpress.com

  225. what the repubs are yammering about is it isn’t a “detailed” line by line budget, but it is a budget… just not the kind they want.. basically it is all political postering and really isn’t important at all because we all know there wouldn’t be one repub that would have voted for a budget.

so again i say… write your leaders and lets get this done

  226. uaw, the Senate dems passed a budget as part of the debt compromise in Aug… Im pretty sure it was Aug 2.

  227. I totally get what you’re proposing and I’m not gloating to my dear Republican friends and family. I do have to share a story about scorpions, however. My dad worked in the silver mines in Virginia City, Nevada as a young man. He told us that in order to keep the scorpions from stinging them at night they would pull their beds away from the wall, put the legs of the bed in cans of kerosene and then carefully tuck their bedding in tightly when they got into bed. That way even though the scorpions could crawl up the wall they couldn’t crawl across the ceiling to drop on them or climb up from the floor while they were sleeping. I think I’ll be mentally doing the same as we see what the scorpions in our political system try to pull off.
    – Terry

  228. OK ….how’s this……

Bob Corker says Senate has not passed a budget in more than three years

    http://www.politifact.com/tennessee/statements/2012/sep/28/bob-corker/bob-corker-says-senate-has-not-passed-budget-more-/

  229. Sidney, I agree about having their ideology crammed down our throats. I wish they could remember that God wanted us to take care of the marginalized and Jesus reiterated this is his message about “the least of these”. I don’t know what Bible they’re reading or what God they’re worshipping but neither one is the same one I’m reading or worshipping.
Now I just hope they can be a part of the solution instead of being the problem. – Terry

  230. OK Lori won’t send link…can anyone???????

Hey Alaskapi….did Harry pass a budget or not…..

  231. UAW! Go to Politifact for info on Obama budget.

  232. UAW, here’s how it works. The guy who gets the most votes wins. It doesn’t matter by how much. Majority rules. It’s not proportional. And check out the electoral college. Obama creamed Romney, and now he’s your president.. Get used to it.

  233. How do you two just keep getting better and better. I want some of whatever it is you got.

  234. Yo, Cynthia – If the GOP didn’t do what it needed to do, it’s because the K/Carl told them not to bother. He’s got some cojoñes to tell them it’s their fault; they hired him to do it for them. And he failed to deliver. You just don’t screw with people who give you a lot of money… They’re going to be really annoyed…

Doesn’t the phrase, “Republican strategist” seem like a total oxymoron right about now…?

  235. OH Sidney….FYI…….I just got home today….GF does’t have internet….or cable……or an antenna……..2 1/2 days without the bullshit was great……

  237. there won’t be gridlock if the repubs get their ass in gear and tear up Gover pact, and wrangle their loons. we are ready to get this thing done and get on with getting this country where it needs to be. I suggest you send an e-mail to your leaders and tell them to get off the pot.

sorry UAW I am not going to play sir links a lot, I’m to tired, or take my word for it ;-).. google the Budget Control Act, Aug 2… you will see it.

  238. well Lori….I guess we’re right back to 1/2 fearing and loathing the other……

    come on 2014…….

  239. hey Lori…send link……I keep looking up senate passes budget…..google can’t find it…..
Senate Democrats are promising pre-emptive gridlock for 2013.

  240. and btw that link isnt acurate. i expect to pick up 5 more by weeks end.

  241. UAW you can send me all the links you want. But I got news for you democrats received more (congressional) votes than republicans this election cycle. redistricting hit us hard and it will continue to take hits in the house until we can turn the state houses around. but please do not confuse holding gerrymandered house seats as a reason we have to bow to the tea people’s agenda. Those days are done my friend. its time for the liberal agenda to see the light of day.

  242. check this out Lori…..

  243. Just a wee bit of gloating allowed until Friday. After all it could have very well been us.

    Peace.

  244. Well first the only one talking about mandates or lack there of are old cranky white men. LOL

second we are at 50.5 percent will be 51 when all votes are counted.. Just to be clear..

third, Reid and co passed it on Aug 2 … look it up…

  245. andddd Mr. “our only priority is to make Obama a one term President”, needs to do the same.

    Now lets get to gettin..

  246. lori…even Harry wouldn’t pass that budget….it got 0 votes last time…..

  247. just wondering how the Dems are going to change winning 50% of the vote into a mandate????????

  248. Ok, maybe one more political comment.

UAW…. YOU LOST…. your policies, lost, lost lost …. YOUR party now needs to pass the budget already put forth by the President.

I am sick to death of hearing how WE need to do what the Repubs want..

YOU lost… Now Boner needs to get together with his cacus and figure out how they are going to pass the Presidents budget. Not the other way around.

See that’s the way this democracy thing works.

  249. well Robert…I’ll step in…
how about the middle ground on the budget…..OH….WAIT WE HAVEN’T HAD ONE IN 1200+ DAYS….THANKS HARRY……
That would be Mr. “I won’t work with Republicans” Harry Reid…..

  250. What world does this man live in? Is it desperation or denial? (I think he is scared those big money people are coming after him for wasting their money and looking to fit him with a nice pair of lead boots.) Oh well!

“Mitt Romney lost the election because President Barack Obama engaged in voter suppression, according to Republican political strategist Karl Rove.”…

  251. Thank you Sidney. Thank you Robert. It has been interesting. I am still your fellow American and did it ever occur to you that not all Republicans are the same. Remember we have 565 or there about in Washington. How can you say that all of us are like you described. There are more than 300 million of us. Yes that is you and me. Sorry for you that we (you and me) are in the same group.

  252. [...] Like a zoo, Fox News isn’t so scary once you realize the animals can’t get out of their …. [...]

  253. Either we are “salt” and “light” by the grace of God, or we are willfully disobeying the One who saved us for such a time as this.

in Philippians 2:15, the apostle Paul says, “Believers, you are to shine as light in the world”. The Greek word used here is very similar to the word for the beacon that a lighthouse emits. That beacon is bright and unmistakable in its purpose. It warns of danger. It directs to safe harbor. It provides hope for those who have lost hope. Everyday we are surrounded by people groping around in the darkness, separated from the God who loves them. God uses His children, like beacons from a lighthouse, to show the way to Him.
Either we are “salt” and “light” by the grace of God, or we are willfully disobeying the One who saved us for such a time as this. If we are being “salt” and “light” then we can expect fruit from our faithfulness. If we are not being salt and light, then the New Year is a perfect time to repent and let God have your best for His glory. This is our commission and in His strength we will experience this reality.

  254. Colorado Blue, You are my hero! You nailed ‘em over and over but I hate to tell you, you can’t fix stupid or greedy, it seems. I’m just tired of being labeled as a God-less Democrat! – Terry

  255. You ladies crack me up. I love your candor and this is so good.

  256. Ladies, you warm my heart. I haven’t popped in for awhile, and shame on me for not, but you continue to be some of the best read on the web!

  257. Thank you Lori. I love hearing H&M tell it like it is. Makes my day. Yes some of the R did some awful things and the rest believed their awful propaganda but we do need to make peace to move forward and I hope we can. I am very happy about the elections across the country except for Bachmman winning and the Labeling GMO products in CA. This is gonna be a good 4 years!;-)

  258. Robert…..the GOP supporters were under the delusion that they were the majority. Their dream was to push their ideology down our throats. They were going to show us! They had god on their side. Rape babies, stopping abortions and birth control pills, ending Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, war…..were all sugarplum dreams dancing in their head. They thought they had righteousness on their side. They prayed and prayed because surely god would hear their prayers. And god did hear their prayers. And he answered their prayers. And the answer was NO. HELL NO.
And now they want to get along? You can’t trust the republicans. They can come back from the dead. They haven’t come to their senses. They have no sense.

  259. Anon, talk to me. Begin the conversation. What do you want? I don’t want to hear platitudes. Had enough of them from Palin for a lifetime. Give me/us some details of where you think the right isn’t being heard or listened to?

  260. funny funny stuff M&H… Thanks for sharing your talents, not only today, but throughout the cycle.

it’s too bad I have a self imposed political gag order. my fingers are itching to take on ANON.. LOL LOL But it’s been a long campaign and I am tired, so I will leave it to the more capable hands of you and the porch dwellers.

congratulations my friends on a job well done. Time for some pie. xo
    FORWARD!

  261. Ladies, once again, you make exceptional good sense with wit and humor. But I do wonder how the arrogant, rich, bully-boy thugs are enjoying the day after. They learned, at least I hope they learned, that the presidency off the United States isn’t for sale. A note, however, $2+billion were spent. Just think of what that money could have done – scholarships, medical research, food for hungry children, jobs training, the list is long. Instead, all that money was squandered because of the hubris of a few men.

  262. I did not say that the Dems (capital D out of respect) or the Rep (again out of respect) have not sought the middle ground, or had outrageous demands. I said that not being able to talk this out will get us no where. Like the last 4 years. That is not a slam towards the White House it tells of a congress that cona not work together or get anything done. Let us demand our people in Washington take some action. The polarization of America will bring us down. Thank your for the full of shit comment. Point taken.

  263. Anon,..,now you want give and take?? Now we are all in this together?? Bullshit Mr. Anon. Your agenda was repudiated by the majority of the American people. The problem with you rightwingers is that you only associate with people that think like yourself and in your little bubble world you didn’t realize that your ideology is in the minority. Your media lied to you and your ok with that? The repubs threw you under the bus in 2010. And you know why? Because they wanted to regain power. They don’t give a shit about this country or it’s people. They blocked everything this president tried to do. They lied about voter fraud, they spend billions in propaganda. They tried to buy this election. And they failed. We are not a rightwing country. When everybody gets to the polls they vote for liberal ideas, only when there is a small turnout like in 2010 can you win elections. I think we have learned a lesson and you will see more people voting in the midterms. So never again anon, never again.

  264. One of the best things about this election: Karl Rove spent $390 million and basically got nothing for it! I hope his investors are happy. I know I am.

  265. Anonymous, be specific. Your answer is a cop out. Give us some detail. If you believe the dems have not sought middle ground, name some of their supposed outrageous demands? Otherwise, your full of shit.

  266. I am not ashamed of my name–just do not have anything set up yet. But why is it important? I could call myself Blue Whatever—, crafty lady—or anonymous. I am still your fellow American and again why does it matter. I do not know you and you do not know me. I do not even look at your name when I read your comments, because it does not matter. I am interested in what you have to say, think and feel. I could learn something from you and that should be the goal for all of us. This blog is very interesting and I do read it. I also agree with some of it and do not agree with other parts. I suffer through some of the language but that makes Helen Helen. I accept all of her comments and all of yours. The middle of the road means to me not party lines but compromise to get us back on track. It means give and take. It means being together for the good of all. It means knowing that we will give up as well as get. I care about all of you and this country. We ARE in this together. i remain anonymous but if you want to call me something you can.

  267. Colorado Blue: perfect response to anonymous!

Once again Margaret and Helen, you have made my day.

  268. Eric Hoffer, wasn’t he the intellectual longshoreman who lived very simply. I saw a pbs documentary on him 20 years ago.. Fascinating man… and yes, I agree. The conservative mindset is in their genes. It seems the only times I’ve seen the conservative minds really express happiness is when they’ve stomped on their many enemies. As I’d mentioned earlier, the overly religious people I’ve worked with saw evil everywhere except in the mirror. They were also quick to play the victim role. They actually are what they attest to most being against but are to blind to see it. Very scary people. I find myself becoming more cautious as I grow older but conservative, at least how it comes off in todays world, never.

  269. Somewhere on M&H someone suggested a book written awhile ago that explains the conservative mindset. I”ve heard of it but I still prefer The True Believer written by Eric Hoffer. That one is scary, too. Evidently conservatives, whether corporate captain or cobbler, believe that the sole right to govern everyone else lies in their DNA, hence they are as close to an anointed Divine Right Monarch as you can come. That anyone else dare to think and do otherwise is a mortal threat to their existence and needs to be anywhere from suppressed to wiped out. Ah! But the intrigues in such a bunch. Think of the court of Henry VIII of England where he had darn near everybody beheaded, including the innocent. They have the abilty to wipe each other out.

  270. Love it, love it, Helen. A perfect description. Fauxfox will never learn so long as they have their decision from the corrupt Supreme court that it is just dandy fine for them to lie. Until we have parity on the airwaves, Limbaugh will spew his hate propaganda in every small town in America. And BTW, ya, you betcha, the palin’s name is already being bandied about for 2016…..the palin and Rick Perry……..Hayzoos Fred !!! Really, Baggers, Really ??? Actually, maybe they need Hayzoos Fred on the ticket next time. They might get a few more votes.

And PLEASE Anonymous, the hands reached out to the Repubs in 2008 and Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and the other Tea Party leaders bit those hands and said all they cared about was making Obama a one term president. They would obstruct and filibuster everything and to hell with the American people. Mitch McConnell with his same ole, same ole crap, clearly stated his position on Tues night. The Dems have to compromise, but there will be no compromising from him as minority leader in the Senate. Boehner is singing a little different tune because he sees the writing on the wall and he is still gets to be Speaker of the house but poor Mitch didn’t get to be the high honcho muchy muck in the Senate and he is pissed about that. Their olive branches are rotten and full of holes.

The sound machine on the right has now turned the Tea Party and the baggers into poor put upon souls who wanted nothing more than to compromise…….bull crap to that. Most of the american people are not stupid enough to believe the blather. It was blatantly obvious with this election. Women are not stupid, ethnics are not stupid, Seniors are not stupid, happy white men are not stupid.

Get a clue: since 2009, the Tea Party has obstructed in the House and filibustered in the Senate, every bill that would have sped up the economic recovery. Days before the election they filibustered a bill in the Senate that would have create more jobs for Veterans. What is it you people don’t understand about that ? The congress makes the laws, the House of Representatives control the money. They refused more money for foreign security and when our diplomat was killed they pointed the finger at the President. I am pointing “THE FINGER” back at the Tea Party. You are responsible because of your irresponsibility. The economic growth is slow and job creation is slow because of Tea party irresponsibility. It is all just a game for those of you on the right.

What is it that you people don’t understand about women not wanting angry old white men crawling up their vaginas? What is it you don’t understand about women not wanting RAPE to be called, “God’s will ” and a RAPE BABY a gift? what is it you don’t understand about a woman being told, “you are going to die because we don’t allow any kind of abortion”. What is it that you do not understand about caring for the child once you insist that it be required for a rape victim to carry and deliver that child?

What is it you don’t understand about watching your job go to China? What is it you don’t understand about equality in the workplace, equal pay for equal jobs? What is it you don’t understand about Seniors getting back in the form of Social Security, the money they paid all of their working lives into Social Security. What is it you people don’t understand about affordable healthcare for all of our citizens? What is it you people don’t understand about our young people needing affordable college loans? What is it you people don’t understand about every one of our ancestors being immigrants?

What is it you people don’t understand about WE THE PEOPLE ? Until you do, you will fail and thus our country will fail.

  271. Margaret,   I love you.  Your voice is a precious treasure that never fails to improve my day.  Thank-you for your clarity.   Mr. Susteran…indeed!   Kind Regards, Bernie Hohl

    ________________________________

  272. Tine, thank you! That is exactly what she said and what I think Rove really meant with his wails!

  273. Hi, Terry – I, too, got a good laugh out of M&H’s post this morning… But a caged scorpion is still a scorpion – and a THREATENED scorpion in a cage is the most dangerous of all. It is well-founded “folk wisdom” that the most dangerous, and impossible to control, kind of dog is a “fear biter.”

Evidently Karl Rove was “interviewed” on Fox this morning, and insisted, “This thing was won.”

This is not the statement of someone who has just realized he’s lost a “good fight”, and is willing to come out and shake hands over it. This is someone who, I would guess, feels his very identity (to say nothing of his livelihood, his position, his influence, and his reputation) has been sullied and is being mocked, even by those who believed in him and gave him their confidence and their cash. Human beings cannot tolerate this; this is not an issue of political positions; it’s a matter of self-identity. (Most murders in prisons are committed by someone who feels he’s been dissed by a fellow prisoner.) And I’m pretty sure that close to half the country feels this way. They will not go easily – nor, frankly, can we reasonably expect them to. WE wouldn’t!

Until progressives (like myself) really understand that the underlying fears and concerns of conservatives are quite genuine – and, yes, legitimate – in their eyes, we will not be able to work with them, and they will remain a real threat to all of us. We can certainly have a good laugh among ourselves, but we cannot just dismiss them with scorn, as Romney so unwisely dismissed the forty-seven percent. We all saw the outrage that followed that, and people were quite justified in feeling that outrage. That’s my very point: People can’t stand to be dismissed and scorned, and told they have no value. Please don’t think I’m suggesting that we need to “accept” the conservative point of view; I certainly do not. We would, however, be damned well advised to remember that they, like all of us, are fighting for their very lives.

Don’t mean to throw a wet blanket on the good times, and I love every word that comes out of M&H’s mouths. But we’re really all in the same cage, whether we like it or not. And some of us are scorpions.

    Gato

  274. After hearing how entertaining the Fox Zoo election meltdown was, I’m now a wee bit sad that I don’t get it on my cable plan.

    And…now I’m over it. ;)

Mageen: I think the witch said, “You’ve ruined all my beautiful wickedness! What a world…what a world…”

    Perfect. :)

  275. Red-assed Karl Rove, throwing poop. Triple snort!! Thank you!

  276. Helen, I have to know–were you a journalist or an author in your younger years? Tell us a little more about you and your background. You, too, Margaret–you’re just sharp as a tack! I want to know more about both of you and I’m sure others do as well.

  277. Reblogged this on Panda-monium and commented:
Not only do I love Margaret and Helen, but you have to give special props to reading, “But the real treat came when I ran across that rare but ever-lovable snow beast, Sarah Palin.”

  278. Beautifully written, as usual. :)

  279. Patricia, I don’t think we’ll hear the end of Karl Rove any time soon or at least not until his money runs out. A dear friend said that Romney made Bush look good. I reminded her that the problem wasn’t Bush, it was his handlers: Rove and Cheney! AND Rove would have been Romney’s handler as well.
Romney was like the flavor of the month when it came to what he stood for; you never knew when someone was going to post a new one on the board behind the counter. – Terry

  280. I also have been contemplating a visit to the Fox Zoo, for educational purposes, of course, but have felt a bit skiddish. I understand that they have been blaming everything other than Romney and his Republican message of distain, intolerance, and paternalism. As for Carl/Karl, let us pray that this was his last hurrah!

  281. Anonymous, what’s middle of the road to you? Tell us please. Name some policies that would represent a middle of the road compromise.

  282. Yes, I was able t access the Karl Rove meltdown. The video was not as entertaining as the comments that accompanied it! They are hilarious.

  283. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2012/11/for_the_ages_4.php?ref=fpblg

To Cynthia and anyone who hasn’t seen the Karl Rove meltdown. This is priceless. All that money spent to “guarantee” a Robme win and it didn’t work.

Hope I did this right !

  284. Hilarious! Delicious description of the blonde middle school “reporters.”

If I had cable, I would enjoy a similar field trip. Someday! Sounds like there are a lot of fairly ferocious representatives of the Bloviating tribe.

  285. Enjoyed this post immensely! Looking back, the Republicans have got to wonder why they added the Tea Party car to their Romney & Ryan train wreck. It was the car that derailed them like the straw that broke the camel’s back. But then again looking at the difference in the crowds at each party’s gathering it becomes very clear that angry rich old white men aren’t going to be able to drag us women back into the cave/kitchen! Plus there’s too much diversity in our populace. And finally, how great is it when one group can’t BUY an election no matter how much money they spend?
Now I hope that the Republicans can get down off their high horses and come to the table ready to work for the greater good and not just for their own goal of taking down their opponents! – Terry

  286. BRILLIANT, as always. I LOVED your perspective on this.

  287. Anonymous – are you ashamed of your name. I wish for every American President to come have the qualities of President Obama. He looks out for the poor, sick, elderly, children and minorities. He does not go into countries and kill innocent men, women and children and I pray all future leaders will think of people instead of themselves and their careers first. President Obama has offered so many olive branches there is a tree over in the Speakers office so quit fooling yourself, come out of denial or there will never again be a GOP. Its not hate you should be concerned with its the GOP’s denial.
The ladies write excellent post, I am so proud of them as they share their wisdom with humor, love them.

  288. To anonymous….I would love to meet you in the middle, but remember you have to actually take some steps in order to get there. Clinging to the right edge and expecting the other side to make all the moves in your direction isn’t going to cut it. Compromise has to come from the “right” side too.

  289. RE: Ann Coulter “…those personal therapy projects she calls books.” LOVE this line. And Moosehead’s run-on sentence was priceless. I was laughing out loud throughout this post. You two are the bomb, and I mean that in a totally un-violent way.

You might enjoy my post-election take on things, though it doesn’t compare to yours in wisdom, humor, or insight.

    xoxo

  290. Your description of Fox/Faux News was so vivid I was reading it as if you were actually there in the studio. Loved the zoo analogy. I try to watch occasionally just to know what the asshats are thinking.

  291. As soon as Ohio was called for Obama I flipped on Fox news. It was wonderful seeing then try to explain to their brainwashed masses how an unamerican, Muslim Marxist Kenyon commie got re-elected.

  292. Margaret and Helen, you helped make this endless campaign season bearable. I spent election night whooping and hollering and feeling exhilarated because all that rich-white-guy money didn’t affect the results much. Still, I’d like to see the EPA go after the GOP for air pollution. That stuff they spewed onto the airwaves is seriously toxic.

P.S. Mr. Rove spells his first name with a K. It looks more Germanic that way.

  293. Nice one. Anon. Call 50.4% of the electorate stupid and then ask us to hold your hand. You’re the moron who voted for a moron.

  294. If I wore mascara, it would be running too. From tears of laughter! Best characterization of Fox News EVAH!

  295. Flying the flag of our country up side down today. (allowing only one day). Maybe when China stops celebrating they will come and take care of us. The only losers were the United States of America. Yes I know half voted for Obama but they don’t have a clue that they lost also. That is they way big government wants it. The plan is working and on right on schedule.. Yes even we know Fox news is an embarassment. Why do you watch it I don’t. But we will try to work together, with you, for a better America. Can you stop the hate long enough to come to middle of the road and take my hand?

  296. Sorry about the email that I sent to you mistakenly, I do like the blog.

    Don

  297. I read every post from you and they are all great. But this one is the best yet. “What a world, what a world!”

  298. I love this blog and I think that this might be one of your best posts ever! (I can’t stop chuckling thinking about Ann Coulter as Bigfoot….). Have a lovely day everyone!

  299. I hope you didn’t get too much Fox poo on your shoes. It will only come off
after taking a math seminar and donating money to Greenpeace–where the
animals are smart enough not to get caged.

  300. Yes, gato, that’s exactly it! Their hypocrisy is stunning.

Whenever they accuse others of any infraction you can bet your bottom dollar they themselves are the ones actually trying to pull it off.

  301. Bo, your response to me reminded me of a scene from the movie Ghost, with the crooked banker. Not the part when the demons were slurping up from the pavement to get him – that was dumb. ;) He was an office glaring at the computer and watching the money vanish. He couldn’t even imagine how his crooked scheme was coming apart. You could see the horror on his face when he knew he was SCREWED and the big money guys were going to come after him.

    Guess what his name was?

    Carl.

    Thanks for the chuckle.

  302. Another great one M & H. And yes, I pick Ellen over Fox / Faux news any day! I tried watching a bit just when they called Ohio. Oy Vey!!!! Funny thing was Fox and MSNBC called Ohio / Obama Win before CNN. I thought that was hysterical!

But seriously, anyone who watches Fox news and thinks it is the real scoop is delusional!

  303. Bo, basically Karl Rove is a lobbyist. He gets paid by his clients only if he can come through and make something work for them. His street cred is now pretty well shredded. Have no idea right now who would hire him. Even the Kochs are not that dumb.

  304. OMG! Rove’s meltdown reminded me of the wicked witch melting down in Wizard of OZ surrounded by her flying monkeys! Does anyone remember what the Wicked Witch was muttering as she disappeared into a pool of her own wickedness?

  305. OMG, I nearly spewed my coffee and peed myself laughing. I’ll never venture to Faux News again without thinking about a rundown zoo.

  306. Helen and Margaret, I do so enjoy your columns. Keep em coming! And I love your posters too. Sophia, I laughed out loud at your post (that’s the only way to watch FOX News). Alma, thanks so much for the link to the Abortion Losers site. It was awesome. Yay for sanity!!!

  307. Love you!

  308. Great post as usual, and so funny!
I watched the Karl Rove meltdown. He reminded me of Rumpelstilksen, having his little fit.

  309. You have to understand that “Geraldo” is flying under the radar. He dropped the last name because he didn’t want anyone at Fox to think he was a “Messican.”

Just like Romney played down the fact that he would have been the first Mexican American President.

    http://www.conservativechristianwatchdog

  310. Hilarious! Forwarded this on to my friends who don’t make it to the Fox zoo very oftern. Thanks for chronicling your visit, Helen. Hope you showered afterwards.

  311. Another must read!

  312. HI, Karen – Yes! In Ohio, land of my birth, and which I am quite proud of today… Conservatives spend quite a bit of time deriding countries which have “government-run media,” such as China, and seem to have much less of a problem being the willing audience for “corporate-run media” right here at home. Odd, isn’t it? It’s just as odd as being adamant about not wanting “the government” make your health care decisions, but being quite content to let Pfizer, or Monsanto, or Humana make them for you…

We are, in so many ways, a very perplexing species…!

    Gato

  313. Hilarious

    Sent from my iPad

  314. Very little was made of this during the campaign, unfortunately, but most of talk radio is owned by Clear Channel, which is a part of Bain Capital.

The Foxes were guarding that particular chicken house, to extend the zoo metaphor, sort of, but no one was calling them on it.

  315. Say “Mike-Huckabee-stinky” all at once. It is super funny. Not as funny as this blog, though, which is like a light of reason in a world of darkness. Thank you dear ladies.

  316. delurkergurl — I can’t help but wonder if KKKarl had some kind of “money-back” guarantee with the suckers he soaked for millions of contributions to his SuperPAC. After all, he made lots of money skimming his percentage off the top of his flim-flam operation. His reaction on Tuesday came across to me as someone who saw his life-style slipping away right before his very eyes.

  317. Margaret, you continue to be a delightful breath of fresh air each day I read one of your postings. Although I am overwhelmingly pleased that the election is over (and even more pleased with the results except for the election for the Senate in our home state), I will miss your trenchant and insightful comments. This one is a real doozie!!!

  318. Nicely done, again!
I got up at 3am and clicked on fox news
    Just to gloat!
I spent 20 mins pointing at each new face
    And saying “loser”
Then on my way to work, in my Obama sticker clad car
I was honked at and given the “#1″
    With the right finger!!!
It was a great day in Austin Texas!

  319. Here’s a picture-says-a-thousand-words to bring us a smile–

    http://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/slacktivist/files/2012/11/AbortionLosers.jpg

It’s stolen from the Slacktivist blog
    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/2012/11/07/election-day-2012-losers/

  320. I think Karl was mad and screaming fraud because he knew his own party was working so hard to steal the election. In his crooked mind, the only way the Democrats could be soundly defeating them was by cheating better than the cheaters!

  321. Another boffo post, Helen! And good on you for venturing into the Fox News echo chamber on election night . . . pathos can be so entertaining, can’t it?

If you decide to ever do that again, here’s some advice for you — approach it as you would any other “soap opera”. After all, that’s what it is . . . a bunch of “recurring characters”; a collection of complicated and outlandish story lines that never seem to resolve themselves; some very, very bad acting; and over-use of dramatic techniques such as anger, confrontation and imaginary scary events.

  322. I was watching Fox News when they called Ohio for Obama. It was hilarious. The lady who’s name I didn’t know, asked “What about Florida, don’t we have to wait?” Then the guy next to her, who apparently believes in math, had to tell her it was over, Obama had won. She and Carl Rove refused to believe it, so she stormed down to the special room in the basement that they have for people who believe in math. They assured her there was not enough votes even in the world of Fox News to make a difference.

  323. You can watch for me too Helen, the bullshit upsets my stomach!

  324. But what about the big gorilla named Rush?

  325. They have a fairly slim hold on reality, it seems.

Both candidates raised close to a billion dollars.

The difference between those donation amounts, is stark; the bulk of Romney’s money came from super PAC’s and big donors. The bulk of Obama’s money came from individual donors, most giving less than $200.

Only the math-challenged could ignore the dynamics of that single factor when translated into votes.
