Mitch McConnell’s Republican Party Can Meet Me In The Middle and Kiss My Ass

Margaret, it appears that rape remains unpopular among likely voters, gays are people too, and Rocky Mountain High isn’t just a song. It isn’t final yet, but at the time that I am writing this, Michele Bachmann, bless her heart, might not be too popular with voters either. And while he wasn’t actually running for anything, Donald Trump proved to be unpopular with just about everyone.

Once the real news called the race for Obama, I tuned into Fox News to see if Karl Rove was giving refunds. I had to laugh at the meltdown that was happening. Karl wanted a recount in Ohio and some blonde woman with too much make-up lamented about the inconvenient truth of Hurricane Sandy. Evidently Sandy and fraudulent voters had given the election unfairly to Obama. Honey, Hurricane Sandy reminded us that we had a good man in the White House much the same way Hurricane Katrina reminded us that we had an idiot in the White House. And fraudulent voters are about as common as unbiased reporting on Fox News. I had to turn the channel back to the more civil CNN coverage with that lovely Anderson Cooper. Too much Fox makes me itch.

After running for President for nine hundred years, Mitt Romney accepted defeat and gave a surprisingly short and genuinely gracious concession speech. I was touched, truly touched, when he called for unity and wished the President success. President Obama too gave a lovely speech. He always gives lovely speeches. It was a tad bit long and I must admit I drifted off a couple of times. I am old and it was getting late.

But back to Mitt… you had me there, sir. You had me ready to put aside my partisan ways in hopes that our elected officials could come together and find common ground. I was all ready to write my letter to the President asking him to govern to the middle and bring us together. I would get a good night’s sleep and then write the letter in the morning and send it off to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

But just before I headed to bed, this flashed across my television screen:

“The American people did two things: they gave President Obama a second chance to fix the problems that even he admits he failed to solve during his first four years in office, and they preserved Republican control of the House of Representatives. The voters have not endorsed the failures or excesses of the president’s first term, they have simply given him more time to finish the job they asked him to do together with a Congress that restored balance to Washington after two years of one-party control. Now it’s time for the president to propose solutions that actually have a chance of passing the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and a closely-divided Senate, step up to the plate on the challenges of the moment, and deliver in a way that he did not in his first four years in office.”

– Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader

Well Margaret, so much for me giving up my partisan ways. Mitch McConnell is a jackass and the Republican Party can kiss my ass. I mean it. Really.

Well, here we go again. Honey, why don’t you just move to Kentucky and run against McConnell? I would vote for you. I mean it. Really.

  1. In town there’s enough punch when you need it and its tiny turning circle gets me more than one jealous look from blackcab drivers in central London..

  2. I was just researching for this information for any while. Approximately two hrs of online researching, thankfully I obtained it in your website. I do not understand why Bing dont indicate this form of resourceful internet sites in the first web page. Normally the leading websites are craps. Perhaps it is time to alter to another research engine.

  3. Chief Justice Burger further stated that executive privilege would most effectively apply when the oversight of the executive would impair that branch’s national security concerns.
i’m confused…explain what that means, please.

  4. “Democrats in America were put on Earth to do one thing: Drag the ignorant, hillbilly half of this country into the next century…”

And when we “hillbillies” arrive, we’ll be broke, job-less, defense-less, heart-less, child-less, indebted, sick, and completely dependent on a God-less, green-worshipping, elitist, socialist government. Why didn’t we follow the ‘light’ of the democrats sooner?

  6. I enjoyed reading this election and post-election reverie from this spirited team of fine ladies. Because I have to wake up at 4 to go to work on Wednesdays, I couldn’t wait for the vote counts to come in from the West Coast. As I headed off to bed, Mr. Romney was leading.

As so many singers have crooned, “What a difference a day makes.” I had to coach a team who reads the local papers to the blind. What headlines these were!! Most voters here in Georgia were not happy to learn the news. Only urbanites in a few metropolitan counties opted for Mr. O’bama (that is Irish for Dukakis, right?). The rest of the state’s voters chose Mitt.

Thanks Helen for staying up late to catch the returns.

  8. noah has, as have so many, swallowed in its entirety, the repuglican line. there is no reasoning with people like noah. they ‘quote’ falsehoods, resist science, refuse to see facts, and make up their own. they do this over and over and over again. this is the prime example of how cognitive dissonance works. i have a nephew who automatically spouts the same—the very same—words. he hears nothing else. it is, truly, beyond my ken.

  9. Hi, Whirled – I JUST LOVE THIS!!! Thanks!

  12. Noah dear, YOU are the one with a blatant disregard for the Constitution! YOU are the petty dictator who demands that we all get with your religious program lockstep and in a hurry! The Constitution is a living document; it is a masterpiece of restraint, and preserves the right of the minority, or dissenting groups against coercion or abuse. It does NOT allow the minority to dun the show, or act as an autonomous and completely separate group. You’re in the minority now Noah, so get used to it!

  13. In the United States government, executive privilege is the power claimed by the President of the United States and other members of the executive branch to resist certain subpoenas and other interventions by the legislative and judicial branches of government. The concept of executive privilege is not mentioned explicitly in the United States Constitution, but the Supreme Court of the United States ruled it to be an element of the separation of powers doctrine, and/or derived from the supremacy of executive branch in its own area of Constitutional activity.[1]
The Supreme Court confirmed the legitimacy of this doctrine in United States v. Nixon, but only to the extent of confirming that there is a qualified privilege. Once invoked, a presumption of privilege is established, requiring the Prosecutor to make a “sufficient showing” that the “Presidential material” is “essential to the justice of the case.”(418 U.S. at 713-14). Chief Justice Burger further stated that executive privilege would most effectively apply when the oversight of the executive would impair that branch’s national security concerns.

If this faux outrage was really about executive privilege, Noahwestmichigan would have been so outraged at Bush that he’d have left his right wing perch.

  14. Karen in Ohio at 12:50PM, great answer!

  15. penny, you presented no facts. You presented a challenge, and then when I met it, you ran and hid. nuff said kiddo.

  16. karen: see what i mean? there’s no arguing with someone who totaly disregards the facts. it’s a lose/lose situation and i need my energy now to work on changing the house come mid term elections. that’s what we need to do now.

  17. Karen, where I come from we call it a prediction, ie an educated guess based on past actions of this administration. Their blatant disregard for the law and the Constitution are my evidence.

  18. penny I met your challenge and your going to run and hide? LMAO why are Liberals always this predictable. Not one of you have the education to stand up and back your lies. Thanks for helping prove me right to alaskapi.

  19. Karen, you need a better understanding of EP. By invoking it, he automatically implicates himself as being involved. You need to look at it again. IT has been buried, not resolved. If you have any news story that says otherwise please share it.

  20. to karen: well said and a good answer to noah. i’ve decided to ignore him, myself…he spouts the same ole lies told over and over, most of them proven to be lies. cognitive dissonance

  21. PS You wrote:

“In the future Obama WILL misuse his executive powers to cover up what happened in Libya.”

Now you have the power to foresee the future? How about if you work on getting the past straight first? Thank you.

  22. Noah, Mr. Obama invoked executive privilege, yes, but neither he nor his administration was in any way involved in Fast and Furious. This has been investigated and determined to be so. Please look that up.

Secondly, the jury is still out on Libya, and may I remind you of the SEVEN attacks on American embassies during the eight years of the Bush administration, which resulted in 47 deaths and more than 140 injured. Add that to the 3,000 deaths on 9/11, and the nearly 4,200 US military who have died in the Middle East, so far, because of Bush.

Mr. Obama has done a way better job of keeping us safe than almost any other four-year President, despite the right’s continued claims that he’s incompetent. And your rhetoric otherwise only serves to show how ill-informed you are.

  23. GWB “abused” executive privilege 6 times, so you should be pleased at the improvement. You do know the purpose of executive privilege, don’t you?

  24. Sandy…..Robert Altemeyer’s book is available FREE ONLINE.

  25. Obama Invokes Executive Privilege on Fast and Furious. This means he is complicit in these murders, or he misused it for political gain.

In June, Obama misused his executive powers to grant amnesty to illegals and to stop them from being deported. This usurps congressional authority and is beyond the scope of powers set for the executive branch.

In the future Obama WILL misuse his executive powers to cover up what happened in Libya. We already know he lied, so he has no other choice to misuse his authority to avoid impeachment. The only reason I am not 100% against this is because Biden as President would be far worse than Obmalam.

  26. The Authoritarians (Bob Altemeyer) is one of my favorite books. I give copies to people as gifts.

  27. i’ll tell ya what noah…you prove with details that obama violated EP or dictated anything…and i’ll stand up for u. otherwise, keep urself outa here. what we need is truth. truth can be proven.

  28. robert and sydney…read about cognitive dissonance…so many answers there

  29. ponies and balloons? cmon fellas, u know wot’s under the pony.

  30. terri? do u think, really, that any dem can win in 2016? it seems to me to b a very dicey time for a dem to run…altho a lot depends on well we make out in the coming 4 years. and i wonder if hillary isn’t just plain tired and disgusted by now?

  31. alaskapi “should have stayed home and gotten drunk now that we have a dictator…”
(You betcha- Mr Obama will be able to shut down Congress and the Supreme Court. Mmmm, hmmm)”

You mean like the 3 times he abused EP and violated the Constitution to force through his agenda? Sounds like a quasi-dictator to me.

  32. o, robert, u devil u. run a vagina for president? that’ll drive them nutz!!!

  33. well, robert, unfortunately ryan won his house seat so he will definitely be around, committees and all. as for possible repugs for next pres. election? cristi is a strong possibility. he is a strong personality. yes, the weight is worrisome. he won’t gladly suffer fools either as his running mate, which seriously limits the choices. rubio? he looks good, he sounds good (if u don’t listen closely) and he seems confident.

  34. i’m going to make a prediction. everyone’s gonna play good guy/bad guy. mcconnell is the bad guy/boehner is the good guy. obama is the good guy/biden is the bad guy. they all know the game. they’ll play it anyway. most of the deals will be made in back rooms using major compromise which should actually bode well and might even avoid the cliff, altho that’s not part of my prediction. now is the time to collar the movers, in private, and let them know lbj styel wot the emes (truth) is. it could work very well. if they’d only lissen to me. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

  35. i have been reading about cognitive dissonance, which explains a whole helluva lot…and that strikes me funny. do some reading about it. verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting (laugh-in). it really answers the constant question i’ve had…how can they bleev this crap??

  36. re voting fraud. the biggest danger is the machines. i was very involved in florida, for 2 years, ’til we changed the machines AWAY from Diebold (who promised dubya his success in this state) and to optical scanners w/paper ballots and random checking. we learned how easy it was to simply walk by a diebold machine and w/a small remote, change the vote. we had many instances of voters pushing one button and consistently getting the other guy’s name on the screen w/the dibod machines. that’s where the main danger is. and the (mis)handling of absentee ballots, which is very common.

  37. Gato @ 8:46 AM – that was brilliant.

  38. Reblogged this on The Happy Homesteader and commented:
A good friend and fellow codger shared this piece written by Margaret & Helen with me, and I am thrilled to commend them to you here.

  39. Possibly the best post election piece I’ve read to date. Speaking of date, are either of you two ladies “available”?

  40. Hi, Robert – Couldn’t agree with you more… And, although Fox is the star player here, there are other “news sources’ who have some influence: primarily “talk radio.” The problem is that their “opinions” are never challenged within the context of their own programming. To me, a classic example of this was when the DNC decided to change the venue for its final evening, from an outdoor stadium to someplace inside. When asked by Bret Baier why he thought this had been done, the Krauthammer (a man I find very difficult to watch, I must say) replied, “Well, of course, they’ve known for months what the weather was going to be. They just didn’t want to show empty seats…” To which Baier replied, “Thanks, Charles…”

Now, of course, on a REAL “news program,” one might expect the “reporter” to express some modicum of surprise at being told that somehow the DNC had a truly miraculous weather forecaster, and might ask something like, “Really, Charles? How could they possibly have known that?”

An interviewer like Charlie Rose will ask a guest a question like, “How did you feel when your puppy disappeared?” Baier usually asks something more like, “So, when your puppy disappeared, didn’t you feel pretty certain that the liberals had stolen her to be part of one of their Satanic rituals that undermine the founding values of our country?” To which the “guest” will reply, “Well, of course, Bret, that was my first thought, since that kind of thing is happening so often all over the country these days…” Cut to commercial…

And that’s how it goes. And people think, because it is labeled “news,” it actually IS “news.” And we just can’t get enough “news,” and the advertisers know that, so their money goes to anything that can remotely be called “news,” no matter what it actually is. The advertisers rake in the bucks; the “news program” does everything it can to hang on to its ratings, which usually involves upping the melodrama and “controversy” to make even the most unimportant piece of trivia seem of world import; and the people watch and listen and “believe”…

And real harm is done… As always happens when people are urged to follow their fears, their prejudices, and their hatreds.

  41. News flash for Mitch McConnell. Your party lost! The old way of taking the Presidency with a majority of white men is over, big time. Look at the photos of the crowd at the Democratic convention and compare them with the photos of your own garden party. Get with it, man. Say yes to the President’s plan for avoiding the fiscal cliff. Really. I.mean.it.

  42. Thanks Sidney, I’ll check it out… I grew up in the midwest. Worked in a factory right out of high school (that factory was moved to Mexico about 10 years ago). It was at the factory that I became acquainted with the religious factions that are very prevalent in the midwest. I remember how mean they could be towards other co-workers.

Several of them tried to recruit me into their church. They saw the devil everywhere and many were convinced the end of the world was near. One of them eventually got me to go to their holy roller church. People would shout out hallelujah in the middle of the sermon. It was an Evangelical congregation. I was encouraged to go up to the altar to be saved. The preacher put his hands on my shoulders. shook me and said do you feel it son, do you feel it . After several attempts and my response was still no, he told to go back to my seat and maybe I would feel it there. Apparently I wasn’t as impressionable as some thought. Maybe it was my catholic upbringing that made me suspicious of this new experience.

I left the midwest when I was 20 and now live on the west coast in the most unchurched state in the USA, Oregon. I love it here, but the outlying areas are very conservative just like the rest of the country.

  43. Robert…..you might be interested in a free online book written by Robert Altemeyer, he has studied the rightwing (how they think and their motives) since 1966. It is a frightening read. Please check it out if you might be interested, it is at Theauthoritarians.com.

I’ve read it twice. It explains the hyprocrocy and the stupidity of the right.

  44. I think the single biggest reason this country is so divided can be laid on the doorstep of Fox News and the rightwing hate machine that proliferates the AM dial. The rightwing is epitomized by everything they claim the left is. They want the government to act as their own personal sledgehammer against every prejudice and fear they have and are willing to suffer as long as who they hate suffers more in their eyes. When government doesn’t act in that capacity for them, as they believe Obama’s form of government is doing, then they believe government is acting as a sledgehammer against them and their right to hold their prejudices and fears, that are most often based in ignorance and supremacy.

The rightwing mind is driven strictly by fear and prejudice about losing their right to believe as they do, regardless of facts that most often don’t support their views. We on the left are driven by fear too, fear that we will be the target of their wrath and for that reason they believe we are the haters. How do you find common ground in that scenario?

  45. I stumbled across your blog and oh goodness I love it!! Especially your insults toward Mitch McConnell; unfortunately he and that dipshit Rand Paul are my senators. It’s hard enough living in Kentucky, accelerating mountain top removal mining and sucking out our jobs just makes it worse! Next senatorial election I am sure as hell gonna drive the vote out against that turtle necked fiend~

I look forward to reading more of your posts!

    An Art Student in Kentucky~

  46. Helen and Margaret, thank you so much for another great post! I am so happy President Obama got another chance. I know his heart is in a good place and he has this country’s best interest at heart. He will continue to do his utmost best for us all, I am sure of that.

Senator McConnell’s statement did not surprise me at all. I had him pegged as one of those people that are always right. Even if an entire room full of people were saying something in unison and his is the only dissenting voice, his would be the right one, of course. He is not a positive person at all and really gives me the creeps.

  47. Michele Bachman scares the heck out of me with her and her husband’s ‘Pray away the Gay’ business! Lunatics!

  48. Alrighty then…
We had multiple people at my work today saying really silly things :
“should have stayed home and gotten drunk now that we have a dictator…”
(You betcha- Mr Obama will be able to shut down Congress and the Supreme Court. Mmmm, hmmm)
“I’m moving to Canada or Australia…”
(You betcha- go get yourself a constitutional monarchy and some universal healthcare there, Bud)
“Now Obama is back in he’ll send all our jobs to China…”
    Lord, love a duck.

There is NO hands-across-the-aisles with some folks- no matter what.

    And speaking of that
Noah- It is absolutely childish to continue to call the Democratic Party the Democrat party.
Robert- we get ponies and balloons? I didn’t know that. Where’s mine?
All I got was an ” I voted today” sticker. Dang.

  49. To Teri in New York…I agree wholeheartedly about not having to see Mitt Romney’s face ever again…and in 2014, hopefully we can say the same about the Senate Turtle, Mitch The Turtle McConnell! Both of these just make my skin crawl !

  50. Check out the Castro brothers from TX Robert! One spoke at the Dem convention. Articulate, dynamic, young, attractive AND bilingual. There IS HOPE for the Lone Star. Right now I’m pretty focused on getting the hell rid of Gov Goodhair Perry and Greg Abbott…:)

  51. Robert- two words: Hillary Clinton! 2016 may be her year.

  52. Ashely Judd To Run Against Senator Mitch McConnell? I Hope So! Video

  53. I meant I hadn’t heard of Obama before 2004.

  54. At this time, I’m projecting the 2016 presidential ticket will be Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. With Chris Cristi as an alternate choice for either role. Depends who can project the more centrist appeal. Cristi has shown himself to be independent of the far right influences (Cristi will need to slim down though, his weight is at a very unhealthy level) It will be hard to beat any combination of those 3.

The only way the Democratic Party ticket can compete is for the 2016 candidate to learn Spanish and take on a likewise VP from the Latino community. I don’t know of any rising star in the Latino community that could run for president, but then again, I hadn’t heard of Obama before 2008. The Latino vote is gaining more and more importance in the elections. (The mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, is a possibility.)

Paul Ryan will continue to get attention, but not sure how relevant he will be beyond his own self aggrandizing.

  55. Fabulously written, no doubt about it! Liquid language, supremely empathetic… glorious stuff.

  56. Have you read these ladies blog? Pretty good stuff! Teri

  57. I may be alone, but I didn’t find Mitt’s concession speech particularly gracious. It seemed flat and perfunctory, given in a grudging tone of voice. It’s not a particularly important point, but I am surprised by al the praise the speech received when I perceived it so differently. In any case, I’m glad I don’t have to think about him or look at him ever again.

  58. The democrats can not make the mistake of thinking that the republican party has suddenly changed and “come to their senses. They haven’t. They can’t be trusted to behave rationally. Now that their agenda has been repudiated by the American people, Obama should be strong and not give too much up when making deals.
Can you imagine if Romney won? They would be shooting off fireworks and planning to destroy Medicare, Medicaid, SS, child labor laws, minimum wage laws, EPA dept. of education and outlawing abortion already. They would be parading In front of tv cameras boasting that THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN LOUD AND CLEAR.
The dems must watch over their shoulder so they can see the knife the repubs will be trying to stick in their back.

  59. One of the nicest things about Romney losing this election is the fact that none of us have to see or listen to ‘Eddie Munster’ [in a new and more important role] and have him force vouchers on us instead of Medicare. During the campaign, one of the newspapers stated, “Ryan is a rising star whether Romney wins or not”. I don’t think so!! It was quite evident with our President’s win that Americans don’t want more GOP stinkin’ lies and no more lines of BS. Why is it the republicans always say they have ‘rising stars’ like Eric Cantor or Marco Rubio? I see no star quality in any of them.

I also agree with whoever said that we need to keep a report card on those members of Congress who continue to obstruct – especially Mitch the Bitch.

Thank you Helen and Margaret for getting us through this extremey difficult campaign season – it lasted far too long.

  60. I decided last night what I really needed to do was to take a break from all the news shows, so I went to my yoga class and stayed after for a lovely visit with my daughter and the yoga teacher. By the time I got in the car NPR was announcing a win for President Obama. Then I came home in time to watch the wrap up and the speeches. Like you, Helen, I was impressed with Romney’s concession speech. It was a bit short, but he said all the right things and didn’t whine or rant about anything.

And the President’s speech reminded me just why I’ve voted for him twice and how proud I am that he is our President. I also loved seeing his beautiful family and the Biden’s beautiful family together. Their respect and love for each other are genuine and most likely life-long. That hasn’t always been the case with Presidents and Vice Presidents.

And like you, Helen, all those good feelings that we might be on a path of actually getting some things done came to a screeching halt with sour puss McConnell. One of the commentators called his response grumpy and they pointed out that he has to run again and feels the need to stick to that hard right line or risk being primaried. I wonder if he will be anyway. People are pretty sick of that line of thought so we can hope that his voice will really be the minority opinion and he’ll be voted out next time round.

I’m ready to move forward and determined to remain hopeful.

The GOP has announced going forward it will be celebrating ‘Cinco de Mayo’.

Re: Memo from desk of Rupert Murdock and the Fox News Network:

    Dear loyal viewers,

Staring January 2013 our evening propaganda news hours with O’Reilly, Hannity and Van Susteren with be displaying Spanish subtitles.

    Also, too…

We will be changing our panel of commentators on Fox & Friends to reflect the need for $ocial diver$ity to include:

An African American, a Muslim, a gay, a lesbian and a Latino with a heavy Chicano accent.

Gracias and have a mucho gusto day!

    Roger Ailez

    PS. Sarah Palin, blow me!

  63. Ladies, I found you just a little while ago while writing this post:

I can’t wait to see what you have to say next!

  64. Noah…..why don’t you take you bucket of poo over to some rightwing website where people like you like to roll in it. There’d have been only 10 cases of voter fraud in Minnesota out of millions of votes. None were voter impersonation. NONE. Go away. Really.

  65. HI, Sidney – And what a happy morning it is! I LOVE your story of how God answered those prayers… Terrific!

  66. I thought Obama promised us we’d all get free pony rides and a balloon if he won. Where’s mine? I want some that free stuff I’ve heard so much about.

  67. Mitch McConnell is a troll, and we’ll have to keep an eye on him, dammit. I was wishing hard for control of the House, but knew it wouldn’t happen. We did pick up a couple of Senate seats, though. It could be worse.
Keep on keeping on, Helen & Margaret.

  68. 177 people arrested in Minnesota casting 1900 illegal votes. That is 1900 negated by 177 people. Quite a ratio. Nuff said Mageen.

  69. Voter fraud? Yagottabekidding! There are easier ways of practicing fraud in any line of criminality than standing in a line for hours waiting to vote! Now voter suppresion, that’s another thing entirely! And there are state legislatures out there who are proud of it!!! They oughta be on a special list just like the 31 states that allow paternal rights to rapists!

As for Mitch the Glitch, he is actually an albino terrapin! What a maroon, as Bugs Bunny would say.

  70. I was feeling the same way, I think it is time for Mitch McConnell to retire (before he starts another civil war) That man is scary…..

  71. I think we finally got our “thousand points of light” last night. ;)

  72. LIfe’s a bitch for Mitch and his cronies. So glad this election is over and President Obama had a resounding win! And, I’m thrilled Elizabeth Warren and Alan Grayson won!
If only, Michelle O’Bachman could have been voted out.
Oh, well, she’ll provide the comic relief.

  73. ((uaw)) I am just so so sorry to hear of your loss. Time will heal the agony of defeat. It won’t be long before you will be back kicking tires as usual.

  74. Thanks Helen and Margaret, I really enjoyed following the campaign with you ladies, and I’m thrilled with the results!

  75. Perfect! My sentiments exactly.

  76. Sad day for America. and just in case you want to know it has nothing to do with race, rape or gays. All rape is rape and should be punished to the full extent of the law, gays have rights, the rights that we all have (and it does not matter if I understand this life style) and color does not matter anymore and should not have in the beginning.. Everyone that uses the race card is an idiot and this is done by both sides. Thankfully some of these people were voted out who do not understand these issues. Sadly some are still there. We need to stop all this your side my side stuff and work together. It is our only chance and as I see it all hope is gone. God bless OUR America.

  77. Mageen, so sorry to hear of your husband’s death. Sending you love and comfort.

  78. .
    With President Obama winning
    with a landslide mandate, I say;

    Let The Socialism Begin!!!

Seems that taking care of your citizens first (healthcare/education/social security and opportunity) is what makes a country truly successful and prosperous.

    More here.
    . ;)

    PEACE ~ Δ

  79. I am so happy! I can’t help the snarky comeback… IT IS GOD’S WILL!!! That’s right folks, Obama won and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Several billion dollars later, and he still won. Guess we’re not all so stupid.

We do need to keep congress’ feet to the fire. Every time one of those idiots in congress says something stupid like Mitch McConnell did, we all need to write to them and call them out. It’s time for what we all want which is for them to find common ground for the greater good of all, not the greater good of the party,

  80. I am one happy Minnesotan today! I’m crying tears of joy over the defeat of Minnesota’s proposed voter/marriage restriction amendments. And we turned our whole state capitol blue. Now we can finally get some stuff done around here.

On the federal level… Although Graves has now conceded to Bachmann, she knows her days are numbered. She won by 1 measly percentage point. Even the people in her freakishly gerrymandered district are getting sick and tired of her nonsense. As for my district, we handily and happily returned the Anti-Bachmann, Keith Ellison, to Congress.

Add to that all the victories for equality in other states–Maine, Maryland, and Washington–and the defeats of theocratic, fact-challenged fools in so many congressional seats, and you’ve got a recipe for a heckuva good morning.

  81. The Valerie Jarett quote is fake. But isn’t that what you expect from that person in michigan?

  82. If the billionaires have that much money to try to buy this election, I’m sure that they can afford to pay more taxes. Don’t ya think?

  83. Noah…..before you come here flinging poo, get your facts straight. Reid said that if Romney thought that the democrats were going to HELP HIM destroy MEDICARE and other social services, that he better think again, the democrats were not on board. And that jarret commet, never heard it, but I’m sure that you found it in some rightwing web site right next to a story about Obamas fake birth certificate and the proof that he is the Antichrist.

  84. noah: now obama has a history to create/leave as the 44th presidentof the usa and it’s first non white president. he is very aware of that. he will use all his talents to create good stuff for the people, if for no other reason than he is determined to leave a sterling history. i bleev he also has morals, despite being a politician, and that those morals remain in tact. can u see him telling michele he sold out? i can’t.

  85. Noah, President Obama has bent over backwards to work with Congress the past 4 years. He’s a decent man, and regardless of what others in his administration say, he will continue to try and find common ground. He is truly a president of all the people.

  86. I would vote for you too!!! I think all of us “real people” should make sure the “ass hats” as you call them, are all replaced! McConnell always looks like he just ate something that terribly disagrees with him. Then he opens his mouth and says something that I terribly disagree with!! Hmmmmm….I have Irish heritage and he’s not making me proud. I think he needs to change his name to Rove or Trump or one of the others he seems to be related to!!

  87. Anna Consider the words of the Democrat party before the election.

Harry Reed: I will stonewall everything Romney tries to accomplish if he is elected.

Valerie Jarrett (Obama’s senior adviser) After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay.

  88. I heard this morning that Bob Scheaffer (sp?) said that Obama is going to have to find new and creative ways of working with Congress. Say what?! I think it’s time for Congress to start working with President Obama, not the other way around. Thank God that at least some of the crazies are gone: Alan West, Akin, Murdock, to name a few. And thank God for Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin, Tammy Duckworth, and Alan Grayson is back!!! In my own state of Colorado Dems regained control of the legislature, dug in their pockets to give more funding for public education and legalized marijuana. All these things are HUGE! Thank you everyone–especially the Floridians who stood in line long after President Obama was declared the winner to cast their vote. Democracy is messy, but it works when we stay involved. I am SO optimistic for the next 4 years! FORWARD!!!

  89. debann? he doesn’t have one.
yes, mcconnell needs to go. now. he looks like a stupid chicken hawk to me. have u noticed how some people look like some animals? with all due apologies to the chicken hawk.

  90. AMAZE-BALLS !!! All that money, all the racial hate, all the attempts at voter suppression and all the lies, failed !!!! Turns out Carl Rove was the largest contributor to Romney and he was having a coronary when they called Ohio, Would love to see Fla go blue !!!!

Remember, Romney is a salesman and he knows the audience to whom he is speaking and my guess is that he was once again lying his ass off. He didn’t even have a concession speech written. He probably had to write something on the toilet paper in his hotel room and thus the long, SILENT, wait for him to appear and pretend to be who he is not. Personally, I am more thrilled not to have to hear that simpering, arrogant Ann Romney talk about tuna, public service to her church and “we gave you all the financial information you are going to get”. Bye, bye, little missy !!!

Debann, I totally agree. We need a “state of Congress” report every freakin’ week so people know who the real obstructionists are. So they know who is not reaching across the aisle. Mitch McConnell is like one of those dress forms……with no arms at all !!!

Such outrage from the Baggers, but that is what you get when you have your head so far up Limbaugh’s and faux news’s asses that you can’t see daylight. This thing was over months ago, but because the entire Media was so Tea Party biased this election, unless you listened to people who were actually watching each state, you would have no freakin’ idea about the truth. Sandy was not to blame, Christie was not to blame, all that did was solidify the fact that we have to work together in times of crisis and that government is just fine thank you very much. And Donald Trump has gone off his rocker. He probably hurt Romney more than he helped. Go plan your revolution, pumpkin head.

Colorado is still BLUE and now I am heading off to by my ounce of pot !!!!!!
Actually, that vote was just a kick the can up to the Feds to make the decision. I don’t think it will stand, legally. I have no opinion either way. My husband worked his ass off for 10 months with the Obama for Colorado campaign so I am thrilled for him. We live in the highly Republican suburbs south of the Denver metro area so it was awesome for us to see the support in this area for Obama.

Thanks Helen and Margaret……….heep up the good work.

  91. I have decided now to concentrate on, send energy vibes to, surround w/enlightenment rays….john boehner. he can still make sense out of the house. he can finally clutch his gavel, bring some decent bills to the floor and get them passed IF he has any brain at all. then in 2 years, and again in 4 years, they will hve something to point to and say…we did this for you…we did that for you…it was tuf but we managed it. keep us/put us in the WH and we’ll do more. anyone gonna help me? siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

  92. You ladies always bring a smile to my face, even when you’re nailing those Republicans to the wall (or maybe BECAUSE you’re doing that).

    Keep up the good work!

  93. Since the Repugnants made such a big deal over RAPE, I believe it’s time for all the women to grab this issue and make it ours. It’s time that law enforcement put rapists in jail. It’s time to test all of the DNA kits that are just sitting on shelves while the rapist continues to rape.

Rape could be dramatically reduced if we have the Political Will.

And with Obama still in the WH, women could put some pressure on him to reduce the number of rapes. We have this opportunity and I don’t want to waste it.

Thank you Margaret and Helen for getting me through this Election. It nearly drove me insane. I love you both.

  94. Just think about all those that were praying to God for a republican landslide. The evangelicals, tea partiers, and rightwingers, were praying and praying. And God heard their prayers. And he answered them. And the answer was NO.

  95. Goodbye Joe Walsh and Allen West! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. So much good news this morning.

  96. Mitch McConnell should be replaced! He doesn’t deserve the trust of the American people, Democrats or Republicans.

  97. I am so happy!
We did it, we kept our president in office despite the lies, theft, scheming, poll watchers, RWNJ’s, Rove AND the Koch Brother’s.
I want to thank everyone who helped win this election, from the people who donated money over and over again to the phone workers and the people on the front lines. Good job!
But, We can NOT let our gaurd down! The Rethuglicans have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have no morals and have no problem lying, cheating, stealing, intimidating and using every underhanded method at their disposal to disenfranchise, steal and change our country into their Amarican Taliban dream.
Do not doubt for a second that they have already begun to plan their next attack. We must keep fighting for our rights, freedoms and justice for ALL people, not just rich, white men. 4 years is not very long. They took us by suprise this last time. We cannot let them do that again!

  98. Despite the right’s attempt to de-legitimize him, Nate Silver correctly predicted every state!

  99. Replace McConnell as leader in the House. That is the only chance for compromise.

  100. Harry Reid said he would stonewall everything Romney attempted to accomplish if he was elected. Remember this when you complain about Republicans over the next 4 years.

“Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and gave him triumphal processions. Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the ‘new, wonderful, good society’ which shall now be Rome’s” ~Marcus Tullius

  101. MY dream came true!! Romney looked like he was ready to jump up and down he did not have to put up with us 47%ers any more! Now he can go back to stealing from the American people and hiding his money. I am so proud of the American people for thinking and voting with their brain instead of prejudiced of color. President has done an amazing job of turning this country around. To think in our life time a black man in office TWICE!!!!
Ah life is good I feel safe and it will get even better. NO NO HELEN HAS TO RUN FOR GOV OF TEXAS AND GET THE FAT HEAD _(*&)&*)%&$%# RICK PERRY OUT OF OFFICE.!! I WILL BE HELPING YOU HELEN!!

  102. Love you both.. Thanks for many laughs and lots of insight. I’m so happy. Hopefully some of the “Christian” conservatives who believe so much in God see a message due to Sandy. (since they don’t think Obama could have won without this storm)

  103. I say we keep a report card on congress and closely watch and record what they say and do. If there were challenges to Obama and to America republican obstructionism played a big part. Is it just me or do others think Mitch looks like a dick?

  104. Helen- I’d move to KY to vote for you!
Thank you for this place to laugh and enjoy the company of folks from all across the country. Being a D in Alaska is kinda lonely :-)

Bo- No gloating here but also no letting up on the fight either.
We just took a major hit to our bipartisan working group in the State Senate here, something the rest of the country says it wants and we had for the 2 years running up to redistricting.Damn fine group of Rs and Ds working together for us. Dang.
Whole lot more work to keep our current Governor from giving the farm away to the big oil companies now. Not letting up on pushback , not one bit of letting up.

  105. Many thanks to Nate Silver for his excellent analysis and forecasting abilities. As far as Mitch “the turtle head” McConnell, we need to think of a way to diminish his influence on the political system. It has to be at the grass roots level and something the media will find just as newsworthy as they find his commentaries.

Maybe it’s not so much the Mitch McConnell’s of the nation we need to change as much as it is the media that allows their far right ideology to go unquestioned.

The media is where much of our nations problems are created, because the MSM has been a dismal failure at standing up to abusive power for fear of losing access.

The media and the banks need to be broken up into smaller, more competitive entities. Consolidation has not been a good thing for the consumer or our nation.

  106. Ladies your efforts played a big part in this election for me.
You kept me smiling when I was constantly shocked and saddened by the support good people i know, gave to the right.
    Even against their own interests!
You reminded me that thinking women can and do change the world!
That women can be wise and wickedly funny at the same time.
That we might even be able to decide for ourselves, how our lives turn out!
And you were one of the voices, that helped show america the political power of women united.
    I love you both!
And would vote for either of you in a split second!

  107. I have to say that I am amused that the party of God and Christianity is saying that the hurricane defined as an Act of God is what caused Obama to win. Maybe God is trying to tell them something?

  108. It behooves us all to avoid gloating at this moment. In the final analysis, this nation needs to heal itself and come together around what we all have in common. There will continue to be disagreements about how to achieve the future that we all hope for; however, the extremes on both sides of the ideological spectrum cannot be the ones to dictate that. In order to break the dead-lock, some compromises will be essential. Let’s all keep cool heads, open hearts and shared commitment toward that goal.

Our success as a nation has always been strengthened and elevated when we can agree to disagree in a civilized fashion — and then get about the business of negotiation and settling upon pursuing “the greatest good for the greatest number”. We need to get about this task with humility and resolve. Today. Not tomorrow. Not on January 20. Now!

  109. .
    REVENGE is best served hot
& fresh out of the voting booth!

    Congratulations to OUR President!

    PEACE ~ Δ

  110. Way to go M&H. We did it.
    PLEASE: Keep ‘em comin’!

As far as Mitch and the Regressives…
they had their ‘top priority’ and obviously,
they couldn’t even get that done.

Chalk one up for evolution. It always wins out eventually.
    . ;)

    PEACE ~ Δ

  111. Mitch McConnell’s statement is emblematic of everything that is wrong with the GOP–they are small minded, petty and don’t have an iota of class or graciousness. They are such sore losers, and McConnell is a bitter, little man.

  112. Well, I (we’ve) survived another election. Thank you, Helen and Margaret for helping to get me through it.

  113. The Republicans and the House will continue to be obstructionists to progress. They need to serve the people who elected them, not the party. Angry rich men behaving as badly as a daycare full of 2 year olds.

  114. Well, Ladies, we WON!!!! My husband and I worked for the President’s reelection. The American people have told big money to go away. As much as they tried, Rove, the Koch brother and all the rest could not buy the highest office in the free world. The people have spoken and the republicans had better listen.

  115. I love y’all! Your work makes me smile. Keep it up.

  116. Helen, there is no middle with this GOP. Thanks for writing, ladies.

  117. Thanks for being here for us during this election madness!

  118. Hi, Sidney, and all – I’m sure Romney IS relieved. Don’t think he ever enjoyed one minute of any of this. Always seemed he was doing what he’d been tasked to do, by whomever. Now we can join Ann in dropping our concern about the risks to his “mental well-being.”

I am also thrilled that our CT Chris Murphy defeated the wrestling lady, and that Claire, Tammy, and Elizabeth also won. Now we’ll have to see if everybody can make things happen…

  119. I am one proud Ohioan! I love your blog and have shared it with many friends! You keep it real!

  120. I’m one proud Ohioan this morning and I love your blog! I have shared it with many friends!

  121. Many years ago my mother, a stanch Democrat, had a card, which I recently found and posted on my blog. http://www.conservativechristianwatchdog.org I thought it quite fitting for today and aligns with Helen’s title for this blog.
It will be interesting to see what the Conservative Christians say on Sunday. I imagine the “devil’ will be given all the credit for his candidate losing. After all, Romney’s church say the “worship the god of this earth.”
I also imagine the “Conservative Christians” will blame God for the Hurricane that helped elect Obama. They pray for God’s will and then complain when He answers.
Actually, they need to understand that God only cares about individuals and not real estate.

  122. I’d vote for you for anything! Marriage Equality passed in three states too. A lot to celebrate!

  123. I live in Kentucky, and I’ll be your campaign director if you’ll move here and help us get rid of McConnell and Rand Paul. Jackasses, both of them. The only difference between the two is that McConnell knows he’s lying…Paul isn’t smart enough to figure it out.

  124. The best part? We never have to see Mitt Romney give another speech! Woohoo!

Thanks for keeping it real, Margaret. You guys are the best.

  125. Mine too

    Sent from my iPhone

  126. I would vote for you! I think you’re amazing!

  127. Four more years! I wonder if nasty lil Mitch can handle it or if Ms. Bachmann will finally gain an IQ point. Frankly, my dears, I don’t give a ham as long as Obama is our Commander in Chief. Happy post-election day everyone!

  128. Romney almost seemed relived that he didn’t win.

  129. The conservatives must be shocked to realize that Americans didn’t want to buy what they were selling.

  130. Afraid no one has learned much, though!

  131. My son (he voted too, y’all!) texted me last nite when CBS called it for PBO “breathe easier, 4 more years.” I surely will! I understand Mr Romneys best speech of the whole campaign was his concession speech…

  132. Not rubbing it in….just sharing a funny post from Margaret! You have to laugh! Find her humor in it! She makes me Lol!

  133. JOY, JOY, JOY. Proud of our president.
