The Race for Respect

Margaret, tell Howard he is full of shit. Democrats aren’t trying to take his money. Show me a Republican who makes less than a million a year and I’ll show you a moron who watches Fox News. Newt wants to spout off about a food stamp President and welfare queens which is just another way of saying, “Hey. Who let the black guy into the White House?” And Romney wants us to believe that the poor in America are doing just fine and dandy. Good Lord where did the Republican party dig up these idiots?

Obama isn’t making plans to take your hard-earned money and give it to some poor person who is sitting at home with too many kids just living high on the hog off the government. Despite what Gingrich wants you to think, Obama isn’t a Socialist. I doubt most of the Gingrich voters even know the definition of socialism. After all, it has three more letters in it than Muslim. I do know this – taxes piss everyone off. Nobody likes to be taxed. But we all kind of like our roads, schools, healthcare, national security, law enforcement, energy… Those things represent the majority of what our taxes go to. And speaking of majority, the majority of welfare recipients are children. You know, those precious little bundles of life that the Republican base likes to ignore once the cord is cut.

And now we get to hear it all over again as Mitt and Newt head to Nevada. God help our friends out West. If ever there was a time for things that happen in Vegas to stay in Vegas, this would be it. And you my poor dear, Margaret. Your beautiful state of Maine is also up this week. I’d bake you a sympathy pie, but it won’t be long before the mud-slinging gets to my state as well. At least Perry has been put down.

Mitt and Newt are beginning to bore me. Let’s talk about something else today.

Three cheers for Virginia State Senator Janet Howell who gave the Old White Guys Club a taste of their own medicine. Virginia law makers are trying to pass their own version of the Texas law that requires a woman to have an ultrasound before terminating a pregnancy. Good ‘ole Senator Howell added an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication. I like how that lady thinks. Considering most of them have their head up their ass, a finger up the butt just might knock some sense into their brain. I wish politicians would figure out how to run the country rather than trying to run my uterus. Am I the only one to notice the hypocrisy of the Republican party? They want smaller government all right… just small enough to crawl up my vagina!

And shame on the Susan G. Komen Foundation for letting some Republican nut case from Georgia convince them to start picking on Planned Parenthood. With men like those Virginia State Legislators in the world, we women need to stick together. The folks at Komen might want to remember that it wasn’t all that long ago that breast cancer was another one of those women’s health issues that was feared and discussed in hushed tones, as if it were shameful. Women should be allowed to make medical decisions with their doctors and not with their politicians. Planned Parenthood is one of the largest providers of breast cancer screenings and mammogram referrals in the nation, and that asshat Karen Handel over at Komen is about to find out that Planned Parenthood is also one of the most trusted names in women’s healthcare. I surely would like to introduce Ms. Handel’s ass to my boot. A boot, I might add, that walked in many a Komen Race for a Cure. Now the only walking I’ll be doing is from my door to my mailbox to drop a check in the mail to Planned Parenthood. Women turning on other women when we already have the likes of Rick Perry to deal with… Well I never.

Maybe we should stop Walking for a Cure and start Walking for Respect. I mean it. Really.

  3. How Palin Changed Politics and made it much worse. This quote reflects the current Presidential and Republican Platform.

Since Palin, though, ignorance has become more than bliss. It’s now an attribute, an entire platform: Vote for me, I know nothing and hate the same things you do.

    HAVE YOU EVER BEEN DESPISED?
Think back over the course of your life. Can you remember times when your sense of value was cheapened by the behavior of others? If they were your authority figures did you accept the unkind remarks they made about you as true of yourself? Have you ever said about yourself the same type of things others said long ago? If you answer yes to any of these questions then you may be living in a very real sense of shame.
Jesus Christ made those He contacted feel better about themselves. Even an adulteress walked away with her sense of worth restored (John 8). Isaiah predicted that the Messiah would be “…despised and rejected of men” as Spurgeon commented “so the reader need not bear it” (Isaiah 53:3). Christ bore the emotional ills of His people so we would not have to medicate our pain. Instead we can believe that He “…carried our sorrows” for us (Isaiah 53:4).
Go to Him now and ask Him to minister this vital provision in your life.

  5. SMH, don’t feed the troll. Isn’t that the right answer, folks? :-)

  6. I am raising three “unwanted” children right now that I did not give birth to. Thankfully, their biological mother chose their lives over the comfort of her own body. In the eyes of many, maybe not you and certainly not me, the circumstances of their conception might have warranted abortions. I am all for womens’ health, but I am not for women undergoing a brutal and painful procedure to destroy a life. And it has very little to do with religion or politics. It has everything to do with what I’ve experienced and what I’ve seen with my own eyes.

Bravo – glad you are privileged enough to have the choice – give other women that option. If you do not want to undergo a procedure do not have it. No one is forcing you; but do not that choice that you freely make on someone else. In your case you walk the talk and adopted but the reality is that some women do not have that luxury. Not all children are as privileged – the Norman Rockwell fantasy of a loving home for every child that is born is a fantasy. The same people who scream for no choice also cut the safety net that children not privileged to get adopted to a loving home – suffer needlessly for a life time. Those same no choice folks also want no contraception which would solve a large number of the pregnancy problems….they also support paying for Viagra the little blue pill that also contributes to the pregnancy problem. Prohibiting the use of Viagra and mandating the use of condoms or other birth control for men would also go a long way to cut pregnancy and reduce the need for abortion.
You have a choice so why deny that to others?

True respect is a two way street

  8. Y’all have me laughing until I cry. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! Just found you this evening & can’t wait to read more of your awesome-ness. Much love from a red state (South Carolina).

  9. Helen, I am NOT the exception to your “Republican Rule”: I made $7900 last year. I believe in and have always supported Planned Parenthood (until I got laid off last year anyway). I believe in a woman’s right to make her own decisions about what happens to her own body. If that includes getting an abortion, that’s no one business but hers and God’s. I’m certainly nowhere near being a millionaire and never will be unless I win the lottery. That’ll be hard to do because I don’t buy lottery tickets. I don’t watch Fox News unless it just happens to be on already wherever I happen to be at the moment. I’ve been accused of being CONSERVATIVE more times than I can remember, because I AM CONSERVATIVE. I believe in being self-sufficient, even if that means living in my car. I don’t get unemployment, welfare, food stamps or Medicaid because I think others need it more than I do. I don’t have health insurance for the first time in my adult life (30+ years now) so I don’t go to the doctor. If I get some terrible disease, then it must be because God wants me to come home. Thank God my children are grown and have their own families to raise; I don’t have to worry about feeding anyone but me or keeping a roof over their head or anything like that. Be as outspoken as you like, but please stop the generalizing. Your spouting what you *think* you know about Republicans is as incorrect and damning as what those conservative talk show hosts spout about Democrats. How about stopping the name-calling if you want to be constructive and make things better.

  10. I love you what else can I say, you remind me so much of my Mother and our best friend who turned 100 last year. Mom was a very straight talker as well….please never stop!

  11. You know what frosts me about the pro-life crowd? They are usually the same people who fight against things like the morning after pill, condom distribution, and comprehensive sex education in schools. If you are really pro-life, you should be doing everything you can to make sure people make smart decisions when it comes to sex.

  12. Karen Handel resigned! It’s like they are trying to make it up for the offensive racist campaign ad put up by PeteIAmNotARacistHoekstra. “We are truly sorry for that tool. Here, take Handel’s head instead.” I found it sadly funny that I saw your post titled “Race for Respect” after being outraged by that ad. We don’t get no respect. Apparently, in the html code you can see that hoekstra’s people named that video “yellow girl”…

  13. Just encountered your blog — great stuff!
My grandmother is 84, and she could be writing your blog too — We are actually in Michelle Bachmann’s district in Minnesota. They gerrymandered the district so much that it will be a sure thing for ANY Republican, even one as moronic and air-headed as Bachmann. I’ve asked my grandmother if she would care to join me in throwing rotted fruit at her, and though she treasures the idea, jail is probably not the place to spend your golden years. When Bachmann won her first election, she came out wearing a TIARA as though she thought she were a prom queen, rather than a newly elected member of Congress. Palin’s vindictive and vacant thinking pales in comparison to Bachmann. I am ashamed to say I hail from her district. Minnesota used to be the home of relatively sane people. Evidently not any more.

Keep up the excellent work, Ladies!!

  14. Once again ladies you have hit it out of the ball park!

My best friend died of cancer tonight. The end was peaceful but these last few months have been so hard.
I was thinking of you and your wife through this conversation here.
Sending best wishes to you and all who suffer this disease themselves or the loss of those they love from it.

  27. Jo, thanks man, you have made my nights. Buds and I are just chilling after a great game, I had to show them this blog and you have us laughing our asses off. Thanks for being you.

  28. FROTHY; You are a coward.

HoneyJorumples made her case for abortion and you totally ignored it.
BE A BIG BOY and discuss the issue with HoneyJorumples OR ARE YOU A COWARD?

In my case, a daughter had the baby growing not in the uterus. It was either my daughter or the baby. My daughter is still with us and I am thankful.

FROTH: YOU ARE A BIG MOUTH COWARD!!!!

FROTH; GOOGLE SANTORUM, (I am now thinking that Santorum is the definition of you.)

  29. Jo, go take your meds son, you are flipping out again. For the record.
in the less-than-three-years Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $4.212 trillion–more than the total national debt of about $4.1672 trillion accumulated by all 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through George H.W. Bush combined. As of Oct 3 of 2011

  30. Frothy: Google Santorum

  31. Pfesser, lets stop beating around the bush and exercise some courage. You have never put yourself on the line and said when an unborn child has rights. I have. Step up and put your big boy pants on, or stick to tamer conversations. Sideline commentary doesnt much become you.

  32. FROTH; You loved the two BUSH wars and were upset that President Obama stopped the one in Iraq – talk about money wasted. Afghanistan is going to end with President Obama as well. YOU are biting at the bit to go into Iran – and remember North Korea is now Nuclear – should we go in there?

HEY IDIOT – BUSH TAX CUTS HAVE COST MORE THAN A TRILLION SO FAR and you want your daughter to keep paying for those.
    FROTHY: HYPOCRITE!!!!!

When should we pay for the Bush wars that were put on credit cards? You want to wait until your daughter is a teenager for her to pay?

FROTHY: You truly are a miserable person. The people on this blog are making you look dumb – just want you to know. Your stupidity is showing.

  33. Not that it matters jo(btw thanks for helping me prove to Alaskapie that you are the party of hate) but I rarely ever drink. 3-4 times a year tops. Thanks for your concern about my drinking habits.

As far as being miserable, just the opposite. A few years back I took a year to remove as much of the negative from my life as one is able to do. I read at least one chapter from a self help/improvement/coaching type book every day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for 3 years running. Again thanks for taking so much of your time thinking about my person, private, none of your business, life.

  34. Notes Farsight, like every other Liberal, didnt have the balls to step up and answer the hard questions…just gets on to belittle others.

It is funny Cynthia, that until Susan G. Komen crossed you Liberals politically you all turned a blind eye. Now that they dared take a stance other than your own…they are prime targets. Never trust a Liberal folks. Watch how they turn on their own, and remember, you WILL be next.

  35. Dont feel sorry for me Jo, not for a second. I’m not the one who has to look my little girl in the eye and explain to her why she and her children and grand children will be paying for your debt long after you are dead.

  36. Froth: What made you such a miserable person? Just wondering. Were you the kid that got his kicks out of flattening peoples tires? Just wondering
You seem pretty pathetic. I got in my cross country skiing BTW.

You were just here acting stupid on the computer of course waiting for people to come back and harass. I am back now Frothy!! You can act stupid again. Bud is now owned by a South American company. I drank a USA beer.

    http://crooksandliars.com/nicole-belle/komen-backlash-shows-conservative-war

The war on women by Conservatives backfired as seen by the backlash regarding Komen.

  37. Very interesting information regarding Komen:

“But a Komen insider told HuffPost on Sunday that Karen Handel, Komen’s staunchly anti-abortion vice president for public policy, was the main force behind the decision to defund Planned Parenthood and the attempt to make that decision look nonpolitical.”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/05/karen-handel-susan-g-komen-decision-defund-planned-parenthood_n_1255948.html

“Karen Handel herself was the center of a Department of Justice investigation into her failure to impartially uphold voting rights laws while Georgia’s Secretary of State. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s reporting on the story: “Justice Department lawyers said Handel’s office had created a system that ‘does not produce accurate and reliable information and that thousands of citizens who are in fact eligible to vote under Georgia law have been flagged.’”

    http://www.change.org/petitions/fire-karen-handel-get-back-to-your-mission

“Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a multimillion-dollar company with assets totaling over $390 million. Only 20.9% of these funds were reportedly used in the 2009-2010 fiscal year for research “for the cure.” Where does the rest of the money go? Let’s have a look. Health screening is 13.0%. Treatment is 5.6%. Fundraising is 10.0%. The largest chunk of the pie is going toward “public health education,” 39.1%. More on that later, but for now I’d like to take a look at the millions, or 11.3%, spent on “administrative costs.”

  41. Thanks Even for proving my point. Your making light of, and ignoring all together, rape, coersion and men strong arming women into terminating babies they want to have proves you only care about one half of the problem, and you will never win by tackling only one half of the problem. As long as men aren’t being raised to respect and honor women, even those women who don’t respect and honor themselves, as long as men are raised to treat women like nothing more than warm pieces of meat to deposit their sperm, as long as no one deals with the male side of the problem, there will always be women who find themselves lied to, used, raped, abandoned and pregnant and in a heap of life-altering trouble. I actually would be all for a comprehensive repeal of Roe v. Wade. if we increased funds to provide more quality food, medical care, day care and education for children who are born to single mothers whose fathers are nowhere to be found, when laws make it easier to go after deadbeat dads and garnish their wages, if a woman is procecuted for having an abortion, the man who got her pregnant is also prosecuted, then I’d be much more on board with taking steps to curtail abortion rights. But people of your ilk don’t really care about saving innocent babies. You care about foisting your religious and moral beliefs on other people.

  42. There does come a point at which one hopes that the hosts decide that Noah’s misogyny has gone far enough and block his IP address.

  45. Evelyn, you are so right, one note Noah has nothing other than us, and he doesn’t have us either. It is a pity, but it is his choice to be a loser.

  46. You made no other observation, other than….so you didnt but you did? Typical Liberal double speak This is why Liberals make life so fun. They even lie to themselves. And Evelyn, maybe it was one dose to many but you are repeating yourself, again. Maybe wait to get off your cycle, or ask your husband or lifemate to do your posting for you.

  47. “Enraged Grandmother, as long as pro choice people believe that the unborn child has no rights until it is outside of the mother, even in the 9th month, then there will always be a fight.”

The major problem you have with hiding your identity, Hydra TexMex, is that you always use the same fallacy: the straw man – accusing people of saying things they never said and then getting exercised about it. It’s as self-identifying as an iris scan.

For the record: …”unborn child has no rights until it is outside of the mother, even in the 9th month,” Nobody ever said that. Ever.

    Except for you.

  48. Noah–I make no observations about your life other than that it, by definition, is sadly lacking. This is based on your demonstrated inability to do anything but post here, and the sad fact that you do so using a whole range of identities. Your b.s. about “pms meds” and your previous statements using gynecological terms for women posters have already made clear that you can’t deal with women. Poor, lonely sad soul. I realize that it is cruel for people to laugh at you, but you really are a joke.

  49. Evelyn, the fact you take the time to make personal observations about my life that you could not possibly have any information tells me you probably need a second dose of your pms meds. I understand your cycle has a way of hampering your ability think straight and makes for these kind of emotional outbursts…, so I forgive you.

  50. not in the least, Noah. It’s obvious that you post here under at least 4 different names. You must be so proud: post, change to a new name, post, change to a new name, post. But then again, you ARE the person who pretended to make a melodramatic exit and swore never to return unless asked by the hosts. That lasted a few hours before you were back, just using a different name. I’m not sure which is more pitiful, the multiple simultaneous identities or the past fantasies about the baby, the successful business, the non-profit, and the like.

Get under my skin? Nope. Unlike yourself, I really do have other things in my life. Perhaps some day you will as well.

  51. Thanks Evelyn, glad to see it is getting under your skin.

  52. Regardless of how many names Noah tries on, it’s still clear that it is simply he, trying to seem like he is more than a single and not very bright person.

These anti choice folks won’t be happy until all poor women have to go to some back ally and a waiting coat hanger

Some, sure, most no. Disingenuous to argue otherwise. It also shows how weak you feel in your argument to resort to such a desperate notion. Could you explain why you feel an unborn child has no rights worth considering at any point in a pregnancy?

A woman and her doctor should make the choice of abortion – not the government or a white 60 year old male senator. If the mom’s life is in danger – that is a major consideration. I would ask my daughter to save herself – please.

  55. Enraged Grandmother, as long as pro choice people believe that the unborn child has no rights until it is outside of the mother, even in the 9th month, then there will always be a fight.

  56. Pfesser, I refuse to subscribe to the notion that people are too stupid to be held accountable for their actions. I also refuse to believe in situational ethics. If it is wrong, its wrong. Just because you have an explanation that fits your point of view nicely doesnt change that.

  57. Here is a great President Obama song!!! Enjoy!! Michael Franti and Spearhead.
It is time to gear up for the November thumping of the wanna be Republican Circus Clown candidate.

  58. It is really entertaining to see how hard the Anonymous Troll works at posting to these threads. He/she/it is almost like a meth addict looking for a fix. It’s not in me to feel sorry for his sorry ass!

  59. If you are a woman who doesn’t believe in abortion, don’t have one.
If you are male and don’t believe in abortion, don’t ever have sex with a woman who
possibly might believe in abortion. Remember this – abortion is legal, and keeping it legal means fewer back-alley coat hanger procedures – and that’s a good thing.
ABORTION IS NOT MANDATORY. Neither is ‘pro-life’. Don’t continue to attempt
to insist that your opinion should be my opinion, and I won’t try to make you
embrace my beliefs. I mean it. Really.

  62. Hello Puppet the obvious. telling everyone because she thinks the yare to stupid to figure it out.

Pfesser. I refuse to subscribe to the Liberal notion that people are to stupid to be held accountable for their actions. The adult world I live in says other wise. Also, something is wrong, or it is not wrong. Your explanation smacks of situational ethics. If it is wrong to do something then its still wrong despite any justification you might have.

If my daughter gets raped or gang raped, she should have abortion as an option. the choice to keep or abort the baby should always be an option for a woman and her doctor.

Are you certain about those salary numbers vis a vis Komen? Because if you are, my relationship with this group is over. I thought my donations were going to support R&D, not half-million dollar salaries for pencil-pushers.

The Big Business of Breast Cancer, indeed. It fits perfectly my theory, dating from college days, many years ago: no matter how it comes out, the women always get screwed.

You were probably praying and missed it, but the Internet is where religions come to die. They controlled the dialog in the US for a long time, via the expedient of untold millions of dollars’ compounding tax-free, but now anyone can post a withering critique of religion FREE. (It’s called YouTube if you were praying and missed it.) Here’s a good explanation. This guy’s a PhD and all-round Renaissance man, so if there are any big words you don’t understand, we can probably help you; just let us know.

    Cordially, PF

  70. Honeyjorumples, you said it! This pro-life thing is simply about dumping on women and giving men a free pass. Ask a pro-life activist group who are in the business of talking women out of abortion what they are going to do about the rapist that caused the pregnancy and they will back-track and tell you that that is not their thing! As far as they are concerned rape is as good a way of getting pregnant as any other.

  71. Hydra Even –

“Joe, why not just teach your daughter to take responsibility for her actions, rather than take the easy way out? Keep her legs closed. Otherwise if you wanna play you have to pay. ”

Get off your sanctimonious high horse, Hotshot. We have seen how well the right-winger “abstinence” programs have worked, haven’t we? The US has the highest rate of teen unwed pregnancy in the developed world. What’s that definition of insanity again – doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

The irony is that, when my high-school buds and I wanted a little sex (which was basically all the time), we couldn’t wait for warm weather and those tent revival meetings to meander across the South. Those hot, sweaty Christian abstainer girls just couldn’t weather all those pheromones wafting on the stultifying air in those un air-conditioned tents and the excitement of all that preachin’ without a little relief. We were all too happy to provide it.

Grow up and come in to the REAL world. Sex happens. Not only get over it, rejoice! That’s why you’re here…LOL

  73. proud liberal….
    and you bring up haters…….
it brings “GOOGLE SANTORUM” and “KEEP FROTHY #1″ to mind….
haven’t seen to many liberals complain about that…..can you say hypocrite…..

  74. Helen Quote:

And Newt, honey, politics is a messy business. It doesn’t matter how many negative ads were run about you. They didn’t change a thing. People have thought you were an ass for a long time now. Go home, honey. You’ve sold a ton of books. Go home and give that current wife some new jewelry from Tiffany’s and order yourself a meat lovers to go.

  75. Be gone before I drop a house on you.

  76. Trying to scare people with that gates of hell nonsense. How trite.

  77. I would have rather thought mens role in getting a woman pregnant was obvious….you see..when two people love each other very very much……….

Where us pro life people have an issue is the belief by pro choice people that the child has no rights until born. They advocate the mothers rights at any stage of the pregnancy, but never the child until born. The belief the child is not alive until it breaths air is foolish by anyones standards, yet they hold to this belief regardless. Until these butchers can start to consider the rights of the child at some stage of the pregnancy, there can be no common ground.

  78. I also take umbrage to the notion that abortion is the result of shallow, selfish women who don’t want the “minor inconvenience” of a pregnancy. Why is it when you want the baby, it’s the hugest, most life-altering, most significant thing that will EVER happen to you, but if you don’t want the baby, it’s just a “minor inconvenience?” When you want it, it’s huge and life altering in a good way. If you don’t want it, it’s huge and life altering in a bad way. There’s more to an unwanted pregnancy than discomfort or inconvenience.

I have never had an abortion. I have never been pregnant. But I know that for every abortion that takes place in this country, there is not only a woman who fell down, there is a man who commited adultery, fornication, rape, sexual coersion (honey, if you loved me you would, or if you don’t I’ll find someone who won’t) who abandoned or threatened to abandon (I frequent a relations forum and in a two year period four different women came to discuss their problem of being pregnant, desperately wanting their baby, but their man saying “I’m not ready to be a father. Get rid of it or I’m leaving you.” Sadly three of the four women couldn’t bear the thought of losing their man, so they killed their babies. We managed to talk the fourth woman into keeping her baby, mainly because the father was only a “friends with benefits” situation and she wasn’t in love with him and wasn’t willing to do anything she had to to keep his from leaving her) but I don’t ever hear anyone in the so-called “pro-life” movement addressing the role men play in unwanted pregnancies and the tragic termination of such. And that’s why the “pro-life” movement has failed for the past 35+ years to overturn Roe v. Wade, and why they will continue to fail. You cannot fix a problem by only addressing half of it. And they just want to demonize and vilify women. They REFUSE to deal with the other half.

  79. Another Great Helen Quote:
Three cheers for Virginia State Senator Janet Howell who gave the Old White Guys Club a taste of their own medicine. Virginia law makers are trying to pass their own version of the Texas law that requires a woman to have an ultrasound before terminating a pregnancy. Good ‘ole Senator Howell added an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication. I like how that lady thinks. Considering most of them have their head up their ass, a finger up the butt just might knock some sense into their brain.

  80. I don’t understand why abortion is even a part of this discussion in any way. Abortion services are only a small part of what Planned Parenthood does, and NO money at all from SBK went to fund those services in any way at all. The money from SGK made it possible for lower income women to get cancer screening and early detection. Taking that money away would not stop any abortions, or make it harder for PP to provide abortion services. It would only take away cancer screenings, referals and early detection to low income women, the women whose lives depend on such services. A very foolish proposition, as we have now seen, since SBK cut off their nose to spite their face and it will take quite some doing for them to come back from this huge misstep.

  81. Because proud liberal , we want to make sure ignorance is not a defense by educating you so when you stand at the gates of hell trying to explain why you burdened the next 3 or 4 generations with your debt to make your life a little easier.

  83. Girls get pregnant by themselves now?

  84. Great post per usual. Always spot on and a fun read.

O/T what is it with these haters? Why do they always insist on going to boards they never agree with to poison the discourse. Fools you must know you don’t sway minds. So what is it? Are you paid to be offensive? Your lives are so miserable you go looking to inject yourself where not wanted? You really think YOU have the answer and won’t rest till everyone hears it? No one cares for you one sided, ridiculous, hateful, my way or the highway mode of thinking. Get over yourselves. Find like minded souls, if they will have you, and spout off to them. And if you must visit ‘liberal’ board, try shutting the $#@ll up! No one cares what you have to say.

Damn but you ‘people’ are a waste of skin and precious air.

    ….just saying….

  85. Another quote from Helen:

I do know this – taxes piss everyone off. Nobody likes to be taxed. But we all kind of like our roads, schools, healthcare, national security, law enforcement, energy… Those things represent the majority of what our taxes go to. And speaking of majority, the majority of welfare recipients are children. You know, those precious little bundles of life that the Republican base likes to ignore once the cord is cut.

  88. Another quote from Helen:

The Morality Play happening within the Republican Party is just ridiculous. Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass who is the most Christian or whose wife loves him more, and I certainly don’t care how much you hate the sin but love the sinner. Your morals mean squat to me because they seem to go away once elected. At this point, the Republicans shouldn’t care if their candidate is a Neo-Paganist as long as he can articulate how to create jobs, reduce poverty, fix our education system and leave the world with one less war not one more.

  89. You are right Joe, rather than to teach your daughter responsibility it is better to impotently retreat into a hole and quote the works of others.

  90. Another quote from Helen:
Folks, let’s get serious. Since 2008 we’ve reduced our wars by 50%, avoided another Great Depression, advanced women’s rights in the workplace, ended Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and passed a law intended to provide healthcare for the sick and the poor. Not bad for a Muslim born in Kenya. Republicans not wanting to re-elect Obama isn’t exactly newsworthy. They like war and they hate gays, women and those damn government-cheese-sucking poor people. But wanting to put Rick Santorum in the White House? He thinks birth control should be outlawed. Without birth control you’re going to have more government-cheese-sucking poor people.

  91. Joe, why not just teach your daughter to take responsibility for her actions, rather than take the easy way out? Keep her legs closed. Otherwise if you wanna play you have to pay. That is how the rest of us out in the adult world get things done.

  92. To quote Helen:

Imagine how much more we could get done if politicians would just agree to disagree on gay marriage and abortion. Your church doesn’t want to marry two men… fine. My church is okay to marry two women… so be it. Your daughter doesn’t want to have an abortion… no problem. My daughter decides not to bring another child into the world… that’s between her and her doctor. When the hell did those two topics become of utmost importance in the political world?

  97. Great post as always. I am still wondering why noone out there is asking Mitt to clarify these supposed “safety nets” that the extremely poor are suppose to have. Is it an 8 year Section 8 waiting list if you’re suddenly homeless? Is it living in your car with your kids if you suddenly lose your job? Is it eating non-nutritious, dented canned food so many donate to soup kitchens or the lovely school breakfast/lunches that may be a child’s only meals? Is it trying to make $600 last an entire month for a family? Exactly how safe are these nets when they’ve had they’ve cut so many holes in them?

  98. alaskapi….
I never thought of you as SFB(shit for brains)….well not after a little bit anyway…..almost every week I get a phone(telemarketer) all or letter for someone wanting a donation…..My own daughter-in-law walked for Komen….it’s been 2 years 2 months 24days 5 hours and ………………………..48 minutes since my wife died………..when someone comes up with left-wing bullshit I respond……got that JJ and Zyxomma

Anyways , he filled it out & sent it in just to skew their polls. Had a nice letter with it about how they are going to save the country from the secular left. It was quit entertaining, unfortunately some people believe it….

  103. Because what is most important is that we support groups that share our political beliefs more than if what they do is important. Politics trumps breast cancer prevention every time?

  104. I am truly impressed with you letter. I too find it rather strange that more women are not smart enough to realize that men have made a Consitutional law about a women’s body, but there are no such laws for men’s bodies. When will they learn to get rid of these men who are from the stone age? When will women become smart enough to fight to get rid of this law all together. I am 75 and still waiting for change in this law. I to will send a check to PP!

  108. http://www.charitywatch.org/toprated.html#cancer

Check here UAW- there are other breast cancer research outfits which get rated higher than Komen and they don’t have the political fright Komen now does.

  109. Is there a better example of willful self-destruction of a cherished brand than what Susan G. Komen has done to itself? We think not. And by the way, we are not convinced that SGK has come to Jesus on this choice thing. So SGK will not ever, ever receive a dime from us. Sorry.

  110. Zyxomma
I actually get left wing nut job and shit for brains mixed up…..

  111. I like the point that susanwastate made….How much goes to research……”about $77 million each”……..that’s still a lot of research………should it be closer to 90/10 instead of 50/50….yes….but …it’s still $77 million to research……Who do you give to if not Komen……

  112. Helen, you are, as always, my hero.

Straight to the point “You know, those precious little bundles of life that the Republican base likes to ignore once the cord is cut.”

plus many other absolutely accurate comments. Thank you for being you.

  113. So, remind me … Is it right wing nut job, or white wing nut job? I always get them mixed up.

  114. Oh Helen! I like it when you get mad and all fired up! Your post is brilliant, as always, perhaps even better than usual.

Pierre Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister in the ’70’s said, ‘the State has no business in the bedrooms of the nation,’ or something close to that statement. Thank goodness there was a politican with some common sense.

  115. Even if Komen does reverse its decision on PP, I would recommend taking a close look at their financial statements before making further donations. They spend as much on administration and fund-raising as they do on research (about $77M each). If you want to support breast cancer research, I’m sure you can find an organization that will actually spend a much higher percent of your donation on research than Komen does.

  116. Actually they did not reverse themselves, they cleverly worded a statement that made it seem they reversed the decision
    ———————–
You are right NOP.Looking at the printed statement more carefully, PP gets whatever $s for a few things that were still in this year’s plan at Komen and then it’s all on the wind in that wording…

  117. So we are keeping the Department of Education around because……?

  118. Kind of funny to look at past threads…the sheeple are always the same. Best post ever..brilliant…funny. Nice to watch them be insincere even to each other.

  119. OK I’M OLD. WHY can’t I find friends like you two ???? :}

  120. [...] The Race for Respect – (Margaret and Helen – because everything they post on politics is brilliant and funny) [...]

  121. So tell me doc, when does a child start to feel pain? When is the child aware of its surroundings? I know my child would respond to my voice, to music while inside my wife. Same argument as before, geography should not be the determination of life. Nothing magical occurs in the last few seconds when the child is inside the mother, then suddenly outside. It is reasonable to assume the child is worthy of protection at some point while inside the mother. The matter then is drawing a line most can live with.

  122. You tell ‘em, Helen.

SGK has been off message for quite a while, and now they’ve tipped their hand in a way that made us sit up and take notice.

I’m glad they’ve reversed themselves on funding for PP, but I’m afraid they have done themselves irreparable harm.

Planned Parenthood has always been there for women and men, and their only agenda is keeping people healthy. My money goes directly to them from now on.

  123. Actually they did not reverse themselves, they cleverly worded a statement that made it seem they reversed the decision.

  124. Komen Foundation reverses funding decision of Planned Parenthood due to negative blowback.

    One person CAN make a difference…1 person + 1 person + 1 person + 1 person + 1 person…………………….

We may not be able to “right all the wrongs” but together we can make a difference!

    Peace.

  125. Susan G. Komen for the Cure to restore Planned Parenthood breast cancer screening funds, Sen. Frank Lautenberg says. – right from CNN

People sticking together can make a difference.

  126. Just a few moments ago, Komen announced that they are reversing their recent announcement that they would no longer be affiliated with PP. Talk about action – money really does talk loudly – I’d say that all the contributions to PP rather than Komen spoke volumes and because Komen wanted all that money to run through their hands and women to continue to walk in their walks, use pink as a symbol for them, etc. Yeah!

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57371169-503544/susan-g-komen-reverses-course-will-keep-funding-planned-parenthood/

  127. Yes Pfesser color metaphors are a great way to take up space in your post but contribute very little..You are calling a point of semantics a lie.

  128. Yup-today’s news is that this Komen outfit has spiffied up their definition of an investigation to mean that “disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair. ”

and restored some kind of relationship with PP.

I can’t tell what kind cuz it’s got some language which doesn’t say anything concrete for all the words it is comprised of- something like this year , ok and next year, who knows?

    Pffft.

No pinkie food or whatever for this old broad before and not now or in the future.
PP , here comes another lil donation!

  129. Komen has reversed the decision. I think it has harmed its brand beyond repair, but at least this particular travesty has been stopped.

  130. Have you considered running for president? I would vote for you in a heartbeat!

  131. I read your post yesterday and immediately went online and donated to Planned Parenthood. I usually don’t donate impulsively, but this story makes me really angry. Knowing a bit of the history of who Susan G. Komen was makes this all the more unfortunate. I’m sure that Nancy Brinker (her sister and the founder) never in a million years thought that she’d ever allow anything to taint her sister’s name and memory. Now she’s allowed some nut job to come in with an agenda and ruin all the good that SGK was doing.

If this decision was politically motivated, shame on them. If it wasn’t, then the SGK board didn’t do due diligence when thinking of all of the consequences their decision would have. This makes me think that it was the former rather than the latter. These kinds of slash and burn decision are never motivated by the greater good or thoughts of good public relations because nut jobs usually just want what they want when they want it and screw everything else.

Kudos to Planned Parenthood! They are the ones who really reaped the benefits of this whole fiasco and now are on the verge of raising more money than they would have gotten from SGK to begin with. All they had to do is sit back and watch the fireworks. The president of NOW predicted that SGK may end up being on a quarter of what they are now in a couple of years because of the backlash. That’s the power of ordinary citizen walking their talk when an injustice is being done. I’m getting pretty sick of seeing the health of poor women and children being a political issue. Don’t people realize that it is cheaper to keep people well than it is to care for them when they are sick? Don’t get me started…..

Thanks, as always, for the wise perspective. Really. I mean it.

  132. OOOO…Anon was put in “time out” by Miss Helen herself!!!!!!
    You Go Helen!!!!!

    I love you!!!!! :-)

  133. Helen, will you adopt me?

  134. PFesser-
Also, too- there is the tendency to argue from the other extreme , the late term abortion, the general exception to the rule.
As 88% of all abortions occur in the 1st 12 weeks of the 38 week pregnancy time frame, why are we always talking about the exception- which is performed only to save the mother?
And really- as regards Komen- why is a witch hunt by a bully Congressman being elevated to the status of a real investigation of PP?

  135. Definition for sail cat:

A cat that’s been run over so many times, you can pick it up and sail it..

  136. anon Hydra –

Here is a pseudo-dup post from Rutherford’s blog. I think it sums up how the fetus-people frame the argument in their own terms and then attempt to debate from that point. Of course, it always leads to nothing, because they DON’T WANT TO TALK AND THEY DON’T WANT TO COMPROMISE. THEY WANT WHAT THEY WANT, AND TO HELL WITH EVERYBODY ELSE’S OPINION.

    ******************

Nice attempt to sneak in your own definition of fetus-as-innocent-child and then frame the whole argument around it.

That definition is really the core of the whole argument, isn’t it? I think most folks understand that a pregnancy is a work-in-progress that, as it goes along, starts with a couple of strips of DNA and develops eventually into a child, and they are willing to strive diligently and honestly to find a workable solution. (Actually, Roe v Wade is a fine, workable solution)

The fetus-people of course define all feti (like that word? made it up) as “children” and then go from there, and of course there is NO talking about it.
As long as that is your definition then there will be no compromise. You will either steamroll or be steamrolled. So far the anti-abortionists are the sail-cats. Doesn’t seem very productive to me.

  137. Ah, anon – so once we are caught in a lie, we say that wasn’t the point after all – we change the subject. In my part of the woods we call that “crawfishing.” Sorry – that dog doesn’t hunt. I’d say nice try but a nice try is one that is not as transparent as a windowpane.

Watch abortions? Are you kidding? I PARTICIPATED in MULTIPLE abortions during medical school – it was part of our training. Don’t try to kid a kidder – or impress people with knowledge that you don’t have. There are people out there who DO.

Learn something about your subject and then return for discussion. And the rantings of Randall Terry or Klondike Kardashian (Palin) are not valid reference, by the way.

  138. ….So…Pfesser
I thought this to be self evident. Ive my notions as to why your avoiding the obvious. If we really wanted to take it to task, we could say silent scream. Not such a far fetched concept.

Not that I am telling you anything you dont already know but the point was to denote a child in pain as it is being killed. If you have ever had the courage to watch a late perm abortion, you would understand this. Or maybe you do and are purposeful in taking your denial to the levels you have. Considering we are talking about the end of a life, and your entire argument is based on if the child does or does not make a noise is the part that makes your argument weak. I think the notion of a life ending more than slightly trumps if the child makes a noise or not eh?

  139. My Lord I agree with Sarah T — your best and that is saying a lot — I’ve been reading since you started this little blog but this is the first time I’ve ever commented — I actually spewed coffee over “Good ‘ole Senator Howell added an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication. I like how that lady thinks. Considering most of them have their head up their ass, a finger up the butt just might knock some sense into their brain.”

How so? What occurs? He said “scream,” n’cest pas? I said screaming was impossible, and why. That doesn’t seem all that weak to me; if fact to my eye it would seem that I caught him in a lie and shoved it up his ass – backward. How do you see it?

  142. Margaret, this is quite possibly your best yet – and that’s no small feat !

  143. I have a new hero – Thank you!

  144. LOL

  145. Helen, as always you rock!!!

  146. I understand that Planned Parenthood has raised via our donations almost as much money as their previous grant from Komen, let’s put them over the top, send more if you can and ask friends to donate to PP. We saved some lives today, we can go to bed tonight with a smile on our faces and our troll (Noah) can shove it.

  147. Helen, bravo! And thanks once more. I heard the news about the decision Komen made and thought it will not end well for that organization. How on earth can they not see that it reeks of politics to the observer? That was not a smart move at all.

As for Newt and Mitt, et al, i am really tired of the bunch. Wish it were November already.

  148. In 1969 Planned Parenthood was my first contraceptive provider. Now I am not old enough for Medicare and have no health insurance. I guess the fat hypocrites at Komen don’t care if I die of breast cancer. They will not get one penny of my money or one step in their events again.

  149. Preach it, sister! I don’t want them putting their small (-minded) government up my vagina either. Keep telling the truth!

  150. You tell him Helen. Anon is also Roger, Jose, Walden etc. Too scared to actually use his real indentity.

  151. Sent my donation to PP this morning. SGK has proven that the organization takes priority over women who need health care. Until the salaries of the top five officials at SGK are less than the amount given to PP for screening and pap smears, I will regard them as a scam.

  152. Once again Helen… God Bless you for the wisdom that you put forth to the world. You are one amazing lady…..

  153. Helen: This line is great!!!

Considering most of them have their head up their ass, a finger up the butt just might knock some sense into their brain.

  154. Damn! I forgot to cauterize that wound.

  155. Anonymous. Quit being an idiot. There is a difference between screenings and mammograms. You do screenings to determine if you need a mammogram. Planned Parenthood does over 800,000 screenings a year and then refers for mammograms if the screening indicates. Stop watching Fox News and pull your head out of your ass. Screenings are ground zero for early detection. Please educate yourself before writing here. ~ HP

  156. Planned Parenthood does not do scanning. If you actually did any research …nm I am sure it was purposeful oversight. PP did referrals to other places. PP has none of the machines to do the actual work.

  157. Thanks, Helen.

Things that CAN’T scan for breast cancer: pink water bottles, pink tee shirts, pink phone cases, pink ribbons, pink pins.

Things that CAN scan for breast cancer: doctors at Planned Parenthood.

  158. Actually jhintze by children I meant “any child from the age of zero to the age of 16″.

Because in the UK at least there are infants looking for adoptive parents in just the same way.

  159. dragon I would ask you to quote me where I said anything about Santorum, but I did not. This is just how Liberals formulate arguments. A false premised followed by a swell of emotional outbursts.

Just because I hold a regard for life does not make me a troll. Liberals are known all over the world for having an inability to take responsibility for anything, abortion is no exception. Their concern only for self is equally well known and abortion is no exception. This then explains the entire philosophy behind why Liberals believe in abortion.

  160. no worries poolman, I change names just to manipulate you into whining about it. Thanks for playin

  161. Nice job Helen!

Yep the Komen fondation has seen my last dollar!

It’s a shame. When are we women gonna learn we are all one tribe and need to come together for the common cause?

It never ceases to amaze me how conservative women continually “vote” against their own interst.

    Obama 2012

    SMH

    peace.

  162. *holds up sign*
    “please don’t feed the trolls”

    G

  163. Raymond, Raymond, Raymond, I have a cat named Raymond, he’s a little dense too.

Are you seriously trying to say that Rick Santorum and his wife took a ripped in half fetus home to show their little children? Santorum should check into a Sanitarium. His wife had a late term abortion. Why didn’t they just let their god do his thing?

Have you been over to their site to scold them? No? Why not? You seem to be the self appointed womb troller. Get on it!

  164. I’m sending off yet another contribution to Planned Parenthood before the day is over. The Rupugnants may think they have the upper hand for the moment, but hopefully my husband’s proctologist will have the upper fist in the end, God willing and should Senator Janet Howell’s amendment stick.

Helen, you rock my world each and every time you express yourself. I love you like you were my own dear mother. Thank you for being the woman I aspire to be!

  165. Well, Raymond, Hercules is tied up for the moment, so the Red Queen will have to do.

  166. At Kath M, you’re right about there being more children needing adoption than parents willing to adopt. I used the word “infant” for that very reason. There are always families looking to adopt infants. Children, sadly, are another story entirely.

I don’t frequent this blog and I doubt I’ll ever read it again, honestly. But I did stumble upon this post and wanted to comment. I’m sure the authors of this blog can handle varying opinions or they wouldn’t bother writing at all. In fact, I daresay, based on their writing style, that they invite some controversy. What’s the fun in only reading commentary that you could have written yourself or hanging out with people who share your same beliefs? Perhaps exposing ourselves to other points of view is a good thing. And my point of view is that abortion is the killing of an innocent life, not the private business of the woman who’s carrying that life.

  167. What Chris8 is trying to say he is to ignorant to rebut any meaningful, logical objection to what he/she/it believes in and that you make him feel uncomfortable when you respond, so could you please not post so he/she/it never has to actually think about what they believe in. Thanks for your consideration.

  168. Pfesser, rather a weak retort. I think it is clear when watching a video of a late term abortion what occurs. Even were we to take your point’s obvious truth it does not negate the argument.

Anon 3:11. Care to substantiate that comment with proof? We both know you are talking out the side of your Liberal ass, just thought we would make it official. Since it is the Republicans who give considerably more to charity than you could ever hope to accomplish.

I do like the hypocrisy of how you will force sterilize a person who has to many pregnancies, You will force them for one act but protect them for another. Liberal values at their finest.

  169. ChrisB – your comment is the most sensible and beautifully written I’ve ever read.

  170. Jenny Hintze –

If this post is so highly offensive to you don’t read the blog. After all, no one forces you to visit this website, it is your choice (!!!) to come here and read. You will never be able to convince someone who does not see things the same way you do that your view is the correct one, and vice versa. But know this: just because I am pro choice does not mean I am pro abortion. What I am for is keeping my nose out of another woman’s most personal and private business. That includes yours!

  171. I actually come from the UK but one of the communities I’m on posted up this link:

    http://whatever.scalzi.com/2012/02/01/ebooks-for-breast-cancer-screening-and-education/

I read the comments there and here with a sinking feeling. How can people not understand that access to decent healthcare including abortion and contraception saves so many lives? If you ban abortions you’ll just push them underground and women will die as a result.

And to the lady who said “there’s always people willing to adopt.” I don’t know about the USA; but in the UK there are more children needing adoption than parents willing to adopt. Your arguement needs stats to back it up.

  172. Love this post, donated $5 to PP, and happy to do it. Couldn’t figure out how to send the thank you note to Karen Handel or I would have done that too. Too many people who have an opinion on what a woman should and should not do with her body. Key words there being “HER BODY”.

  173. Shamefully, the Republican attifude is to protect life of unborn, then ignore them the rest of their lives, once born.

  174. i want to receive or let my facebook friends see my helen and margaret stories is it possible todo that?

  175. Helen, you are the best! Thanks so much for another great post and please keep them coming because they brighten my days. Everything you write is right on the money – PP money of course.

PFesser, Tine, Victoria and poolman, love anything you also have to say because just like Helen, you say it all so well. It’s a treat reading such smart comments.

For the right wingers who love to moan and groan, why do you come here if you know you’re not going to like or agree with anything posted? Why put yourselves in that position? Wouldn’t you prefer to be with your own kind so that you can enjoy and agree with everything they discuss?

  176. Thank you, Poolman, for pointing out the hydra in the pool! Maybe if we don’t feed it it’ll go away, though that would just be passing it along to someone else.

More to the point: Up with PP, crown Helen the Queen of Everything, down with Komen, and if you don’t want an abortion don’t have one.

  177. To Janna: Surely you’re not suggesting that this woman be FORCED to be on birth control or have her tubes tied or do anything with HER body that she doesn’t want to, right? Isn’t that what this is all about? We are not adopting #4 actually, but some family friends of ours are. :-)

And what does this…”I am sorry you lost your babies, which explains why you think everyone should.” even mean? I think everyone should what? If you’re going to try to make a point, then please make a valid one.

  178. This might be the best post yet. Love you ladies. Keep it up!!!!!

  179. erbacon –

Scream? Your science fails you. Fetal lungs are full of water.

Back to the schoolroom with ye. See if one of your relatives whom you have denied birth control will take you with her when she has HER abortion; you might learn something. This time don’t stand behind the door.

And you wonder why the left considers you people Neanderthals…tsk…tsk…tsk

  180. I love you both. Can I nominate you two for Queen and Vice Queen of the world?
To all of you anti women people, you may not not know this, but is does take two. So they can ban abortions when I get to perform castrations and decide who gets them. What’s that? Never happen?

Stop telling everyone else what to do. Keep your face out of my bedroom and my body. I, not you, will decide what is right for ME, got it? You worry about your own little selves.

  181. AGREED! Thankyou

  182. egznbaccon/Roger/anonymous/Jose/noah…

I dub thee Hydra. That would be the best name for you with all those nasty heads that keep popping up. Where’s Hercules when we need him?

  183. Great post! You’ve got lots of men in your corner!

  184. So…
I like what I see here. Democrats are fair weather friends, and this post proves it. Cross a Democrat, and you, in an instant, despite years of friendship, are the enemy and subject to all kinds of attacks.Action like this will ensure that Planned Parenthood never gets this money for their barbaric causes.

If you ladies want to carve up a child like a thanksgiving turkey, you should have no problem watching and hearing a child that has been late term aborted scream as its body is being torn in half. Since you find no moral objection to the action you should not have any objection to watching the death occur. If you have a problem watching it, when how can you support the deed?

  185. Helen:
Been a fan of yours for almost five years now and you never fail to hit the nail on the head. And I look forward to seeing some of the old tried and true contributors who show whenever you post
Sorry I can’t say the same for the barstool cowboys who have taken over this blog and driven the sane people away.
Good job. Keep up the good work. This is one male who is with you 110% on this one

  186. Helen, how can you be so RIGHT all the time? I love the way you think!

Maybe Mitt and Newt will wind up drunk and naked in the Bellagio fountain some night during their stay in Nevada and we won’t have to worry about them any more; but until then, keep after them! And no more pink ribbons and races for me–my money is going straight to Planned Parenthood.

Thanks for continuing to tell it like it is.

  187. Hell-to-the-YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  188. should keep any pregnancy and give birth.

  189. The January-February 2012 issue of Mother Jones magazine on page 10 has an article about how the Susan G. Komen foundation dismisses over 20 scientific studies linking BPA exposure to increased breast cancer risk. “Yet Komen has repeatedly dismissed possible links between breast cancer and the common chemical bisphenol A (BPA), even as it accepts millions of dollars in donations from companies that use the compound in their products.”

Just another example of how the rich and powerful think nothing of preying on sick people, the American way….. GREEDHEADS!

To Jhintze: one unwanted child I can understand, but three????? Get that woman on birth control or help her tie her tubes, or you will be adopting #4 &5 in the next year or two. I am sorry you lost your babies, which explains why you think everyone should.

  190. How nice to read comments I can agree with wholeheartedly rather than those written by neadrathal far right nut jobs.

  191. Helen, love you even more today if that is possible. Did my donation to PP Online this morning and I am definitely up to walk in “The Race for Respect.”
werneroderwer I for one have missed your voice here.

  192. omg I just found this blog – I LOVE YOU GUYS! <3<3<3

  193. Keep the posts coming, ladies. Nobody says it better than you. xoxo x infinity

  194. I think that my childrens’ birth mother has done and is still doing many things that are irresponsible, but giving birth to these children is not one of them. I believe giving birth to them was noble and good, one of the few right choices that she’s made. I did use the word “choice” because right now it is a legal choice, whether I think that it should be or not. There are always parents ready to adopt infants when their biological parents cannot care for them.

And I have given birth. You’re right, it’s is brutal! I’ve also had two D&Cs at about 13 weeks because my babies hearts stopped beating. The procedures were invasive and very painful. I’ve also held in my hands my 21 weeker as he died. He was 8.2 ounces, 9 inches long and perfect in every way, just too small.

I won’t convince you to feel how I feel. I know that. But my personal experiences have show me that human life is to be valued and protected. Nothing anyone says can change my stance on that.

  195. jhintze–abortion brutal? Try childbirth!

  196. Give ‘em Hell, Helen!
Girlfriend, you ROCK! and take the words right out of my mouth and plunk them in the blogosphere… damn straight!
Susan G has seen the last of me!
    Love ya girl!

  197. Thank you Helen. I’m a 6 year survivor of breast cancer. Why shouldn’t everyone have the same opportunity to get the same care! I was sent to Komen for biopsies and mammograms and breast MRI’s. I was fortunate to have insurance to cover it. What about those that don’t have insurance? Shouldn’t they be able to be covered too? My daughter-in-law has run the race in my name for several years now….but would rather she gives her money to PP now so everyone gets the opportunity to get woman’s care, not just the wealthy.

  198. Jhintze –

Do you think it is irresponsible for your children’s biological mother to bring three children into the world, knowing that she could not care for them? It’s good that you have the resources to do her job for her; that’s not always the case.

And you will note that you said she made the choice to have them. How about allowing other people the same choice?

  199. Hi all
long time no hear, but I din’t loose my byte, need proof:
I am pretty sure Mrs Komen got a brain enlargement, and they used silicon too, she went from pea sized brain to xxx large without any impact on her IQ!!!!

  201. Is there any cause that politics does not corrupt??? I am bored with Newt and Romney too, Helen. This entire political circus process and the constant campaigning is SO counterproductive. The money spent wasted on it alone could fund cancer research AND provide low cost or no cost health care to women in need. Obviously that isn’t the intent of those that champion this cause. If “the cure” was found, what would happen to the foundation?

We are SO messed up and WAY too proud to repent.

  202. Walking for Respect on every aspect of life, Helen! Respect my decisions, Respect my thoughts, Respect my being. Thank you for writing and thank you for your humor.

  203. “Women should be allowed to make medical decisions with their doctors and not with their politicians.” Amen!

    Peace.

  204. I’ve raised tens of thousands of dollars for the SGK Foundation back in the early 2000s, but then learned that they are absolutely not politically non-neutral, and I dropped them like a hot rock. My support for Planned Parenthood, who supported me with low-cost exams and birth control in my younger years, has continued with interest. I stand with Planned Parenthood and will be actively working to convince people to NOT participate in the Race for the Cure or any other (fill in the blank) for the Cure events to come.

  205. We need to boycott Susan G Kormen products as well as not walking or donating to the organization. I support Planned Parenthood 100 %.
    PLT

  207. awesome chica!
    i meant it! really!

  208. Victoria –

You’re my kind of woman. Also straight from the horse’s mouth. And I like horses.

  209. Hooray for Janet Howell.

  210. Thanks for the video link, DJ Stuart! Proof positive that Republicans can’t separate church and state. Straight from the horse’ mouth…

  211. Simply wonderful read. Thank you for your words.

  212. Honey, well behaved women rarely make history. And using the term “classy” usually means you have none. I support your choice not to have an abortion. That’s the pro-woman side of me. Too bad you can’t support my decision to not bring an unwanted child (male or female) into this world. Keep those legs crossed honey and you’ll never have to worry about it.

  213. Not only is Karen Handel anti-choice, she’s also anti-gay. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid34619011001?bckey=AQ%7E%7E%2CAAAAB_0PyCk%7E%2C_pBlGqvGs04Tc8UUwQF4CFKPQB-OCvyg&bctid=114804829001

  214. Bravo!! I have been angry about the Komen betrayal since I heard about it… Now I’ll just put my money where my passion is & send a donation to PP. Respect – Exactly.

  215. if being tactless and brutal in our responses to each other worked for the good of all I’d be all for it. Since it accomplishes nothing more than increasing the anger level in our discourse, my take is, let’s be civil. I think the Ladies of The Blog might agree. What do you think?
    Carolyn

  216. Margaret,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am disgusted by these women who would choose to put politics and Religion ahead of helping other women when they need it the most. What happened to separation of church and state? Why are we letting them shove their religous beliefs down our throat and up our vagina?
Don’t like abortion, Don’t have one!! Lets take care of the children that are here and in need. Hungry, homeless, abused, there are so many children in need of help.
We must stand together or we are lost. My check for P.P. is on it’s way. I will no longer walk for, work for, or donate to Komen.

  217. Victoria, I can tell that you’re a seriously classy lady. Congratulations on that.

  218. Tine: The idea came from JuanitaJean http://juanitajean.com/2012/02/01/just-in-case-you-missed-it-3/

hokgardner: Great Idea: The WALK FOR RESPECT could collect money for Planned Parenthood!!! I like the way you think hok

  219. Hey Jenny. How about we take care of existing women before we go worrying about “potential women”. Keep your religious dogma out of my non-religous pussy.

Victooria, your trampesk nature aside, why don’t we just take care of them all? Shame there is so little room in your withered heart that you think we cant do both. Or more to the point, rob you of your chance to butcher another helpless life.

  220. JuneauJoe, I like the way you think! And Helen too, of course. :)

  221. I love it. Let’s get together a walk for respect.

  222. “Most people would be shocked to find that the Komen Foundation helped block a meaningful Patients Bill of Rights for the women it has purported to serve since the group began in 1982.”

  223. p.s. that Alternet article mentioned above is from 2002!!!

  224. Thank you ladies, for speaking out so quickly about the Komen Foundation. I’ve done some reading about them this morning and found this Alternet story “The Marketing of Breast Cancer
The Komen Foundation, creator of the 110-city Race for the Cure, is tied up in private interests that run counter to its charity-driven mission. ”

    http://www.alternet.org/story/14014/

Most comments I find about today’s news suggest that people will transfer their donations to Planned Parenthood directly.

Now I know the Komen Foundation’s pink was really just bleached out red.

  225. Well said as usual! Petition against komen decision and for planned parenthood can be signed at http://www.care2.com

  226. Sorry. Click on that god awful long link and it will take you to a PP donation page on-line.

  227. https://secure.ppaction.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=pp_ppol_Directed_DonationFormOneTimeGift&__utma=1.134640909.1328194201.1328194201.1328194201.1&__utmb=1.9.10.1328194201&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1328194201.1.1.utmcsr=bing|utmccn=(organic)|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=Planned%20Parenthood%20North%20Texas&__utmv=-&__utmk=124475786

  228. You tell them Helen! And I admire and respect that boot of yours!

  229. Jenny if you were a guy I would have just rolled my eyes. But the fact that your a woman means I will double the amount of my donation to Planned Parenthood to make up for your anti-woman attitude.

  230. I am sending in a check to Planned Parenthood! Thank You Helen!!
    You are my hero!!!

You can donate as little as $5. to Planned Parenthood and they will send a thank you note to the person you wish to honor with your donation.

That’s pretty cool, because you can chose to honor:

    Karen Handel
    Senior VP of Fail
    c/o Susan G. Komen Foundation
    P.O. Box 650309
    Dallas, TX 75265-0309

Come on, you’ve got $5. to make a large point, don’t you?

  231. Hey Jenny. How about we take care of existing women before we go worrying about “potential women”. Keep your religious dogma out of my non-religous pussy.

  232. I find this post highly offensive. I’m pretty sure nobody wants to crawl up your vagina. How many potential women have to be killed every year to protect “women’s rights?” Whatever. Takes all kinds to make this world go ’round.

  233. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46209349/ns/health-womens_health/?ocid=ansmsnbc11

Susan G. Komen Foundation decided to fund organizations that actually performed mammograms, rather than Planned Parenthood that just reefers services to those organizations. Smart move in my opinion.

  234. Love you ladies. How sad that Komen decided to make this political. Now women will be torn on which organization to support. THat seems very defeating to me. We women need to stick together. I hope Komen changes their mind. Planned Parenthood is a great organization. I kept going to them even after I had insurance because I was so comfortable with them.

  235. I can count on you to give us the straight skinny. Such perception!

  236. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am doing the same-sending a check to Planned Parenthood. I saw the woman who runs the organization on MSNBC last night and she said that there is a specific location on their website to send donations that will go to make up for the funds that Komen will no longer donate.
The head of Komen is a conservative Republican woman who, when she tried to run for governor of GA, vowed to end funding to PP, and I guess she has succeeded. I’m wondering if there is collusion between her and the legislator from Virginia. Wouldn’t surprise me.

  237. I used to walk for Komen. Now I will STAND FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD because they were there for me when I couldn’t afford to go anywhere else. Had my annual check-ups there including a pap smear and annual breast cancer screening. Thank god they never had to refer me on for further tests but they did detect a lump in my college roommate’s breast. Thanks to the early detection, she is today almost 13 years cancer free.

  238. Where have you been on my life? Wow. Just wow.

  239. Lady, you’ve got my vote and my wife just went on line and made a donation to PP. Love ya!

  240. As always right on!! I am sending this to President Obama ( as I always do.) I have sent your blog to white wing republicans (lol) they were not happy ! YAÁ

  241. Oh lord, Helen. If only I could wake up with you every day. LMFAO!!!!

  242. Beautiful! Thank You.

  243. As usual, you have hit the nail on the head, Helen….actually, many nails on many heads.
    Thank you.

  244. Amen, Helen.
Check going out in today’s mail to Planned Parenthood!
