Speaking of nuts, that dumb ass son-in-law of mine really did give me Sarah Palin’s book to review just like he said he would. The very idea that somehow a gift to me actually put money in her pocket… well I just don’t know how I feel about that. The only way I can stomach it at all is knowing that maybe my reviewing it here might prevent a few of our visitors from deciding to buy it to read themselves.
I’ll start reading it this week after I get my holiday cards out. Surely it couldn’t be as bad as that Coulter crap I read a few months ago. After all, it has all the makings of a fine novel: a rags to riches story filled with heartwarming musings about drilling for oil, raising your children’s children, and getting even with the world. I even hear the main character is really a vampire. A page turner for sure…
Tell Howard not to bother buying a copy for himself. I’ll send him this one when I am done. Maybe your sister-in-law could use it to stuff her turkey at Christmas! I mean it. Really.

Tried to figure it was his way of showing what dirty deeds/deeder’s were out and a out ma ipulating the strings of power/powerful and hard to fight and let it play out in our faces for all to grasp –the surprise was that due to other , yes indeed , innate and racist factorings, the race was closer than most reasonable folks would imagine -ossible …In all the aftermathing, even realizing he is in a fierce struggle to hold onto his Senate seat , think it abominible and contemptible of Mac to have been so evidently reckless with the nations well being at stake. Imagine for a moment IF Mac and P HAD succeeded…, even imagine if Mac and Joe had…any who think things are not all THAT with Obama and his crew, think how truly wretched things would have become with the “others” helming at this juncture–give it serious thought for we are heading into another election for later this year and the tenuous balance the Dems have as a majority does indeed need BOLSTERING in order to get much of anything done –60 in the Senate is NOT sufficient. Think truly that if there was indeed a greater “majority” in Dem numbers, there would be debate as well as effort to reach more across the aisle with the those on that other side perhaps grasping it would wonk best for all to truly wonk together FOR THE GOOD OF THE NATION and benefit from such all the way around. The present situation SUCKS BIGTIME and thensome with the fracturous obstructionismaticals damaging to us all. That was the message from officials at the Mall of America shopping mall, who told reporters planning to cover the Minneapolis stop on Palin’s Going Rogue book tour they must address the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate by her former title.
The guidelines also banned foreign reporters, allowing “only English-speaking press”. Mall officials said it was a mistake and apologised today to Palin for the mix-up, which they called “an internal miscommunication”

545 PEOPLE

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don’t propose a federal budget.. The president does.
You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red ..
If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Creamed, I too, am a yankee. An ancestor left Ct in about 1700 to move up to NH and then to Canada, came back to US in 1919. I’ve been using nuts in my stuffing since 1972. Along with mushrooms, cranberries, sometimes chestnuts and other veges as well. New England Thrifties would always use up whatever was at hand, especially in stuffing or in red flannel hash. I would never put nuts in a corn bread stuffing, I think of cornbread stuffing as a southern thing and I’m a purist when it comes to that. Used to get it from Joe’s BBQ as a side, with gravy. He also made an awsome sweet potato pie and pretty decent collards. I put the nuts in the Bell’s “New England Style Stuffing” and added extra cranberries. Along with mucho butter. Makes for a moister stuffing. Don’t know what Helen’s issue with nuts is. Perhaps it’s all the nuts out there in TV land and in Texas. I spent 4 hours in Houston once. It changed me.

Buttons44, I agree and am glad you posted. It seems we used to do the 2 steps forward, 1 step back routine. Now I feel it is 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Most frustrating. Auntie J, beautifully articulated , many align . Tragically find too many similarities repeating ala Gibbons “Fall and RISE” account of the Roman Empire and what we seem in midst of here in the US. Am astounded by our own domestic “TALIBAN” forces that permeate this land and truly wonder was our principled nature of tolerence just but one of the myths we all clung too as find no recollection of such heights of hatefulfulness that seem all too prevelent in so much of the public discourse these days. Am one of those that was fortunate to have come up thru some of the “best” of times and no , never thought it was perfected, always figured we were still working on the perfection of it all and truly DID believe that we were indeed capable of achieving , even if it was slow going getting there. Am NOT so confident these days, almost find us in a seeming perpetual state of self destruction and the vociferous voices seem way too belligerent and find them obnoxiously contemptible for they are indeed impedeing all of our efforts to make some forward progress.
Think many of those that voice here represent a far saner portion of our naton and cling to the belief we ARE truly THE majority and that indeed, we ALL will indeed overcome those that prefer inserting obstacles to achive our greater common good. Tis a pleasure to visit , to read and take in the view points here. Best of the year ending holidays to you all, thanks for lifting spirts and ability to cling to hope filled desires that we WILL overcome and we WILL achive a far greater common good for all not just the few.

Mooselini’s already been to my area. Without much local news to work with, it was painful to see the “news” saturated with coverage of the “event”. Live coverage started before dawn, where dozens stood in line waiting for the place to open so they could get a wrist band that would allow them to come back over 12 hours later for a glimpse of the woman and the chance to have their copy of the book signed. Over 12 hours of ‘breaking news’ of people standing in line. Yawn. Then the story ran for a few days after. It was painful, I tell ya!

Bacon/Cheddar Twists for Pups
1 cup all-purpose flour unbleached
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup finely shredded Cheddar Cheese (or 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese)
1/4 cup crumbled bacon (drain well, pat dry, then crumble)
1 T parsley
1 T rosemary, crushed
3 T canola or extra virgin olive oil
1/2 to 3/4 cup organic lo-sodium chicken broth or bottled water
1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
2. Combine the flours & baking powder in the bowl of a food processor and pulse to combine. Add any flavorings you like and pulse until chopped and blended in with the remaining ingredients. Add the oil and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal. (Alternatively, blend everything together in a bowl with a spatula or whisk.)
3. With the machine running, pour 1/2 cup of cold water, chicken stock or milk through the feed tube and pulse, adding extra if you need it, until the dough starts to come together. This will depend on your flour and what flavorings you added; I usually need 1/2 cup plus about 2 tbsp of liquid.
4. Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, gather it into a ball and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Roll the dough out about a quarter-inch thick, sprinkle it with salt (if you like), and roll lightly to help the salt adhere. Cut into quarter- to half-inch-wide strips as long or short as you like, then twist the strips and place them on an ungreased baking sheet, pressing the ends lightly onto the sheet if they start to unravel. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden.
Humans can eat these too – they’re crunchier than the twists typically found on your grocer’s shelf. If you don’t want to do twists, you can also just cut the batter into 1″x1″ squares (simply score dough with a pizza cutter, then bake. After baking, snap off the pieces)
I’m experimenting with other flours as I don’t like using the all-purpose.
Also note – if you have a dog with grain allergies, cornmeal & wheat flours will aggravate the allergy. Substitute the wheat/corn flours for medium grind rye flour. And use more liquid as needed. Just don’t over-do it on the liquids)

While I have been chasing my tail with holiday preparations, I have had a few days to think about Obama’s decision on Afghanistan. Obviously, he is privy to information that I don’t have. After all, he is the duly elected president and that is his job, not mine. This is pretty weighty stuff and he was wise to deliberate carefully before making such a far-reaching decision. There is no place in either domestic or international policy for knee-jerk judgment.
Basically I am a pacifist. I don’t see how wars have ever successfully solved problems. The Greeks had it pretty correctly when they talked about the seeds of the next war being planted by the previous one. War is and always has been about death and destruction.
Foreign armies have tramped back and forth across the lands of the indigenous people of the Afghanistan-Pakistan region for millennia; at least as far back as Alexander the Great, the Persians, the British and Ottoman Empires up to the Russians in more recent times.
There has been much talk about the national debt that has to be paid by our children and grandchildren, and probably great-grandchildren. There is also the even sadder price of the body bags for our young men and women as well as another generation of soldiers coming home with the lifelong disabilities of broken bodies and shattered spirits. In war, old men send young men off to die.
At this juncture, we can only hope and watch as yet another drama plays out. Over the long haul, it is up to the regional people to sort out their own affairs and rid themselves of the internal tyranny that continues to plague them. We Americans did, last November! I hope we can help them do that as well. We are certainly not perfect, not by a long shot, however I sincerely believe we are making slow but sure progress in our country.
No ones puppet, I was impressed by the link you gave us to The Central Asia Institute. In the final analysis, this organization and others like it are the best solution in helping a people get a leg up so they can stand on their own two feet. They deserve all the support we can give them.

Donna, thank you. If I were thinking about converting, I would certainly consider Judiasm. We have had and do have many Jewish friends that we especially enjoy because of our in-depth meaty conversations. I have great respect and admiration for the faith and those who live what they practice.
OceanGypsi, I can’t believe you braved walking into such hostile, alien territory. Good for you! You are one corageous gal!!! Maybe, just maybe, you gave some of them something to think about.

Hello, all!!
Today was the day of Sarah Palin’s book signing at Sam’s Club in Fayetteville, AR. I had an artist friend of mine create me a poster that said, “Palin, Shut up already!” Unfortunately, I could only create it to 8 1/2 by 11 because of the pixels. It got my point across, though.
Now, my reason for going today was NOT to get a book signed. I wanted to go to let this red state know that Sarah Palin is a negative representation of women in politics. There were two delightful older ladies who are mystery novelists that were there protesting as well. Once we got kicked off of the Sam’s parking lot (they have an anti-protesting policy), we settled to a place across the street where the book signing comers and goers could see us. There were numerous birds flown at us. The most comical was the little old lady who was hunched over her steering wheel that almost hit the parked car beside her while trying to set her bird to flight. Several un-original thinkers shouted that we needed to get a job. Funnily, all of us are employed. I shouted back, “Would that be so we could have health insurance?” One car load of “forward thinkers” told us to go home. This little scene was the one that the local news decided to broadcast. I began laughing when they shouted this. So, the camera got a fabulous shot of me with a huge smile. (I wouldn’t mind that one going viral!) There were also a few people who gave us the thumbs up.
One lady drove by three times with different comments. But, we threw her off. She wanted us to be combative and argumentative as she was. We were not there to argue or to misrepresent our goal. The goal was to simply let the Arkansans who crawled out of everywhere to get a book signed that there is a differing political opinion. We were polite and responded with intelligent and thought provoking comments. She finally gave up and drove away.
But the most profound comment was one that I witnessed on the news as I did not go inside where Palin was. They asked a man what he liked best about Palin. He said, “Her looks.”……… Now, I don’t know about anyone else. But, I am not interested in a optically-pleasing person who is unqualified, uninformed, and uneducated in global issues to be my president. We’ve already had one that needed a script and a teleprompter to converse with OUR nation and the world if they wanted to make any sense.
I had a blast today, you guys. Thanks for letting me share. Really. I mean it!!!

Hi gang and Grandma Katie,
Speaking of books, I’ve been reading a fascinating one and it made me think of you, Grandma Katie. By the way, your posts are coming through fine. I don’t think you make any more typos than the rest of us.
The book is ‘Musicophilia – Tales of Music and the Brain’ by Oliver Sacks. He is Professor of Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He has written nine books and is obviously an eminent authority.
Anyway, I am learning all kinds of interesting stuff about how music works in the brain that I never even imagined. He has a chapter on the benefits of music therapy for people who have had brain injuries or strokes. There are some interesting case studies on how anyone can improve, even on their own, by using simple music techniques. For instance, singing or humming music while you work.
This is the usual time of the year when I go into my annual panic about preparations for the holidays. Yikes!!!! Somehow, I always manage to get it all done though. I will this year too. I have one third of the Christmas candy for family and friends made already and most of the shopping finished.
One of our sons and his family are coming out for 10 days over Christmas and New Years. We are really looking forward to a great but busy time.

This is not, repeat Not, the bacon cookie recipe. It’s a pet treat recipe a client at my work made years ago. Real simple.
Preheat the oven to 350 and oil an 8X8 or 9X9 pan well. In a blender (or, I suppose, a food processor), grind a pound of raw beef liver and a cup of yellow cornmeal. This will look and smell ghastly. Don’t worry, it’s not for you.
Pour the ghastly mixture into the oiled pan and bake it til it tests ‘done’ with a toothpick (inserted, it comes out dry). Let it cool on a rack, cut it into squares or cubes and store in the refrigerator (or freezer, if you won’t use them quickly).
Dogs love ’em. And one of my cats was found standing in the middle of the not-yet-cooled pan, eating hot liver bars regardless of any physical consequences. Ouch. But he was quite happy, until I became unreasonable about it.

I have been reading this blog for some time now but finally summoned up the courage to comment. I too am in awe of the M&H talent and wisdom! I truly bow down to you!! You say it right and you say it so well!
I come from India and during the ’08 campaign and after, I was horrified and chilled to think that such mean-minded, hurtful people as Palin, Coulter, Cheney etc exist in the most liberal nation in the world! I felt I had made a mistake coming here.
I am relieved and inspired that Obama became president and I am encouraged by all you people that there are many more decent, broadminded people here than there are nutjobs! I just wish OUR voice was heard louder than theirs!
Greg Morteson said that the solution to bigotry and hatred was education and he was right in part about places in Pakistan, Afghanistan etc…but Cheney et al had an education too, didn’t they?! I have yet to understand this dichotomy!!

Craig, if no one’s said it before, you just explained the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans and the Presidents they elect.
The Democrats expect to disagree with each other and with the President and Democrat Presidents expect their base to have differences of opinion. Consequently, we engage in debate, civil discourse and sometimes peacefully protest. We tolerate and have both liberals and “conservadems”, those who are both pro- and anti-public option, both pro- and anti-war, pro- and anti-choice, both pro- and anti-gay rights, all in the same party.
The Republicans of today and Republican Presidents (Bush, Nixon, Reagan) brook no opposition or dissent, bug our phones, read our emails, torture and imprison without trial and make enemy lists. The Republicans encourage opposition, sometimes violent, purely for its own sake, and characterize the lawfully elected President of the United States as a Nazi, a socialist (make up your minds, if you have any) and un-American. The Republicans insist on political purity (although considering Mark Sanford, John Ensign and the other R’s living at C Street, not personal purity). Consequently, thanks to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sarah “Quitter” Palin and ex-Vice President Cheney, just to name a few, there are no moderate Republicans any more. Just ask Senators Arlen Specter, Olympic Snow or even Lindsay Graham.
Which is healthier in a democracy?

My mother-in-law bought her book, and actually showed it around at Thanksgiving like it was an accomplishment to have a copy! And the whole family was excited about it! I usually refrain from talking politics with my in-laws, since they differ from me too much and are way too conservative for me (and my mother-in-law votes how her husband votes, how quaint). But I had to tell her that I would like to see that woman get a kid through college. I’m embarresed by them.

Have a Xmas Cherry recipe–adults only…Use to go cherry picking in season and use to use an old version but as the years went by, found a simpler way. I purchase a gallon jar of maraschino cherries (so nice and birght red for the season) , I then marinade them in Drambuie…in olden days use to use brandy but was in a pinch and a bottle of Drambuie was on the shelf was semi surprised these turned out fantastic , now a regular “expectation” at holdiay time .They can been easily accomplished even this close to holiday partying time. You can “jar them in mini canning jars, tie a ribbon and “wallah” , easy gifting (again, mark for ADULTS ONLY and so advise!! )When on the table, they disappear rapidimente and requests always come for more !!

I print and share with others not hooked up (both yours and the many of the comments) and all become enamored and beg for more shares–many at the SCenter send very HIGH FIVES (and for some , not so easy to do but you folks brings many a smile , many an acknowledgement of saying what many are thinking on the same marks !! LOL, this in OC CA, strong gop terratory at that !!! A bastion of RR supporter still around but many NOT aligning with the current incarnation of the GOP party or its headlners !!
As for Craig, did YOU have a problem with the time it took Bush/Cheney to dither regarding their snapped judgements and the time it DID take for them to get such activated with further bamaboozlementings ? You pick up the erroneous chant that Obama took too long to make such critical decisions as the present one to send more troops to Afghanistan…MOST of “us ordinaries” are grateful he does deliberate, thoughtfully and check out the various equations involved. BTW, Craig, ROver is out and about claiming that Bushie took less time to WIN against the Taliban when he sent our troops in….IF he WON, why after all these years are we still in the mucked up mire of Afghanistan….we’re still dealing with his administrations leftover garbage and there are no easy solutions besides, clean up is always harder and messier , ask ANY knowledgeable renovator !!!
Especially enjoyed the DEFINING of “ROGUE” and now think her book aptly titled for sure !!! (and laughing a bit cuz bets are she gave some thoughts to slipping “maverick” in, but was nixed for not only false, but would have been infringment as well as quite a false nomer !!!

Raji every year our family has given Heifer Intl gifts. my dad often would take us to villages and point out the Heifer animals, and a few time we got to be there when Heifer delivered the livestock. Very very exciting. And very much needed.

As an Alaskan, I don’t need to waste my money or line her pockets by buying her book. I know all I need to know about her from her record, and she’s both truth and ethics challenged. She should never again be elected to any office, and she should not be allowed to meddle in other people’s elections, either.
Craig, I may not agree with everything President Obama does, but I respect him, and we’re a darn sight better off with him in the White House than we would be with the quitter Twitter gov.

I have a product that I use after I read anything written by the Quittinator, its called brain bleach. Pour in your ear, swish, tip your head till it runs out, then repeat.

I glad you took the time to look at the site vgman, I hope others will also take the time to visit the site. I am impressed that CAI involves the local community before their school is built and that the school is primarily built by the locals from local materials. Rather than giving my children and grandchildren things they don’t need, might not even want, this year for Christmas, I am taking a new slant and donating in their name to various charities. Another one for everyone to consider donating to this year is Toys for Tots, I hope all of America’s children have something special under their tree this year.

thanks for putting in the link to Greg Mortenson’s Central Asia Institute (10:24 am today).
I read his book Three Cups of Tea. He has the right idea. Education shines a light on ignorance and can spread the feeling of goodwill among people of the world like nothing else!
There are stories from his book of village elders who recognized the pride of having schools for their children and the pride they felt because they helped build them!
The Taliban does not want schools run by independent villagers. They want control of where schools are located and who attends them.
If we can support Central Asia Institute’s mission, I know we can make a difference. They have a Pennies for Peace program that our school has looked into.
Safety and security means that anyone living in the region will look most at where the aid comes from–a manipulating, dictating power like the Taliban’s or a caring, sharing, empathetic, encouraging support from a foundation like Greg Mortenson’s. Our foreign policy should take note.

And I always liked the term “moonbat.” I can’t imagine why anyone would think of the term as derogatory. I think bats are among the most wonderful animals in the world. They have such cute, scrunched up faces. I’ve saved several over the years by moving them from inside spaces to outside spaces. I envision a moon bat flying across the face of a full moon like the one I saw this morning at 5:30am, over the mountain, setting. What could be more wonderful. (I figure anything that eats bugs that want to bite me is GOOD) Sadly, a lot of the bats in my area are dying from something that gives them a white nose, and I’m almost totally certain it is not cocaine.

On another note . . . one of my favorite pages from my new SP coloring book: “Sarah got her lipstick mixed up with her bullets! Just happy that we had a president that made the right decision rather than to cut and run alla Jimmy Carter and Clinton.
If you saw most of the troops saw it as a good sign and some parents of soldiers at least wanted to see their children go off to a war that was at least supported by the President.
He didn’t really have any good choices but I think he made the right one.
He was smart first for keeping Gates as Sec War.
Then he is also smart to listen to his Generals in the field.
The mission was spelled out..but the mission has to always be subject to change. You don’t think the Taliban were watching Lucy re-runs do ya?
So they will have contribute their fly in the ointment as well.
And all you whinies keep harping on the cost of the war.. yet you don’t mind mortgaging the future for some Trillion dollar pie in the sky 1500 page Health Care bill, that you Chloe can’t even describe.
And jsri, The Appalachian Trail is beautiful.

O for taking time to make a decision, a decision that will affect the lives of thousands of our military personnel, thousands of lives of Afghan citizens plus continue to cost billions of dollars that we don’t have, yet you would also criticize him had he made a quick decision based on his gut feelings like Shrub did (that always worked out so great)! I appreciate a Pres. that considers all of the ramifications of his decisions whether I agree with his final decision or not. Good lord, I’ve taken longer time deciding on which vehicle to purchase because I do my homework first! It has been interesting to watch, from Alaska, what folks think ( I’m stretching the think thingy for some folks’ reactions ) about whatzername’s so-called memoir.

It makes me sad people get behind the idea she’s a maverick and all that… she’s a walking, talking poster gal for far too many same-old,same-old ideas with a dash of rapture-days-are-upon-us thrown in. Period.
It also makes me sad that folks who disagree with her fall off into worrying about hair dos and makeup and all..

As for Obama’s speech last night I applaud that fact that the troops will be focusing on Kandahar rather than just rotating in and out of Kabul. Kandahar is the epicenter of activity – and needs to be stabilized. We had it almost stabilized when Bush/Cheney went on their revenge rampage in Iraq. . . I’d like to see more work on the humanitarian end – schools, clinics, clean water, medical care, etc. . .but in order to accomplish that the people first must be guaranteed their safety and security. This will probably bonkers up my progressive cred, but I would prefer to use small assassin/sniper squads who can blend in, move swiftly & with greater stealth and just get the job done. And I would have no problem teaming up with Mossad to do it.

It is at moments like these that I am truly mystified by my country, that so many people there who have access to so many resources have so little intellectual curiosity and such low standards of leadership that they would actually believe one word this patent failure says or consider her as a legitimate candidate for higher office.

Helen, I’m glad your Thanksgiving was enjoyable and hope Margaret’s was as well (not counting the turkey).
I’m not sure if I’m more looking forward to the book review or horrified that you’re going dumpster diving for us again. I’m sure your take on it will be hilarious, but if it gets too bad, just back off and out. We won’t mind a bit. Better that than to find you in the hospital bed next to the bad roommate.
I won’t read it myself, but the few excerpts I’ve found seem to be in her unique style. I find this quite confusing, since she had a ghostwriter and, presumably, an editor. I don’t believe the book was a collaboration of equals, since she’s known for the work ethic of a particularly spoiled Pomeranian (Dog, I mean; I don’t know any humans from Pomerania, but I’m sure they’re quite nice and hard-working). One would expect that the professionals that did the work from whatever interview she granted would do better.
I’m always insulted by the assumption that “Real Amurrcins don’t speak English good. The peepul iz dumb. Play to that and they’ll think you’re one of them.” No, we’re not dumb. We speak English very well indeed. And we know Sarah’s not one of us.
I said it first and I’m sticking with it. Two. Bit. Grifter.

Now, now, Helen, you really don’t have to read La Palin’s book and review it for us. We don’t want you to wind up in Harold’s old bed in the hospital with Fox News blarring in the other one.
I’ll take for granted all the other reviews we are subjected to on various TV shows. Gawd! It’s playing right into her hand and need for attention for her to get so much time and print.
Instead, please go read the funny papers in the newspaper. There is considerably more wisdom there!

She was in town last week. My son was driving me to work and there, by the Omni Hotel, was a huge bus with her idiotically smiling face all over it and something about “rogue”. My son asked me “how badly do we need this truck?” because he had a wild desire to smash it into the bus.
Later I found out she was at a book store at one of the malls, hawking her book. You had to buy the book in advance and you got a bracelet. Then the first 500 with bracelets got to come in and meet her. I understand people waited outside all night. Incomprehensible.
She was also here during the campaign. In fact, she was speaking just across the street from my office, which I felt gave new meaning to the phrase “I wouldn’t walk across the street to see that.”
The main thing I noticed though…and Obama has been here twice within a year, and I’ve seen him drive by too. But when Queen Sarah left her speechifying to go to the Stadium Club for a luncheon, they had to close down one of the main downtown streets, because it’s one-way and Sarah wanted to go the wrong way on it. Many cars, almost a parade, going the wrong way down the street.
Both times I saw Obama, he was in one vehicle with a caution light on top, obeyed traffic laws, went the right way down the street, and was unobtrusive and polite. On one visit he was just a candidate, but the second time he was President.
I guess “rogue” means “doesn’t have to pay attention to laws.”

Glad your Thanksgiving went reasonably well, and thank you so much for offering to give us your review of Palin’s book . . . I just couldn’t bear to do it myself. I did, however, get my copy of Going Rouge, and was excited today to come home and find my 2 copies of the Going Rouge coloring and activity book in the mail. I got two so that when my sister from Alaska is back in March, we can have some fun coloring in silly Sarah in countless colors of the rainbow, you betcha.
I look forward to reading your review as much as I did reading AKM’s version over on Mudflats. Hope Harold continues to improve! Love to you and Margaret!!

While I would much rather Helen read Going Rouge – An American Nightmare – the comforting thing is knowing that Palin’s book is so insubstantial that Helen will be done in one sitting.
Glad to hear you & your family had a great Thanksgiving. I almost spewed out my coffee though when I read “I have never understood her insistence on cornbread stuffing with nuts in it. That combination would suck the moisture out of a Kleenex.” SO loves cornbread stuffing with pecans in it. UGH. But I make it for him so he can drown it in gravy. Makes no sense to me either.

Now about the birth of Sarah’s baby….the trek from TX to Alaska. Could it be that Sarah’s healthcare provider would have been revealed. Todd is part Alaska Native Indian and receives free healthcare….you get the picture. The tribes have a deal with the US government re healthcare…not hard for anyone to google.

Can you imagine what he would do with a 4:00am phone call on the red phone…?
Of course now we will have the same people who got him elected out on the street corners honking their horns and pushin their babies strollers while crying for Peace.
You guys brought him to the table..a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER from Chicago where anything can be purchased for a price and a Nobel Peace Prize winner..second week into his term…what a farce!
How unfortunate the Cadets have to listen to him
mouth off about what “HE” will do for our country while THEY will have to make it come true.

Hello Helen! I am glad your Thanksgiving went better than expected. Too bad about the Palin book. I hope he got it at the 4.98 discounted price. I was going to wait until it was less than TP and maybe save my family some money, but it would probably just chafe our butts and clog the toilet. Please take to reading it in small doses with much ventilation and use rubber gloves. Otherwise it could cause permanent damage. 😀
