Life’s a bitch… and so is Dick Cheney.

Margaret, I am here to tell you that Dick Cheney is a bitch – a big one too.  I mean I thought that Sarah Palin was a bitch, but even she can’t hold a candle to this guy.  Have you been listening to him recently?

I would say that it takes some pretty big balls to go on national television again and again to justify torture, but Dick was too much of a wimp to serve his country in the military so I’m pretty sure there ain’t much hanging between his legs.   But being a bitch myself,  I can assure you that you don’t need balls to be a bitch.  You just need to not give a damn what other people think of you… and Dick doesn’t even care what his family and friends think about him much less the rest of us.

I have to admit that I am more than a little perplexed by Dick’s rise to power.  He flunked out of Yale – something even George W. Bush didn’t do – and has at least two DWI’s on his record – one more than Georgie Boy.  So basically from 2001 to 2009 we had two dry-drunk idiots running the country.  But only one of them has had the good sense to shut the hell up since leaving office.

Cheney came into politics as part of the Nixon administration and ended his politcal career with George W. Bush.  Along the way he managed to skip the Reagan years opting instead to represent the least populous state in the Union.   In fact, of the past five Republican presidents  since Cheney got into politics, the only one that Dick didn’t work for was Ronald Reagan.  Talk about a guy who can’t pick a winning horse.   He works for Nixon, Ford, skips Reagan, and then comes back for the two Bushes.   Four  failed Presidencies and this guy still thinks his shit doesn’t stink.  Of course this is the guy who headed up the vice presidential search for George W. Bush only to decide to pick himself as the candidate.  I’d say he’s mastered the art of not smelling his own shit.

During his tenure as Secretary of Defense he actively worked to reduce the size of our military.  And when asked about the FIVE deferments that kept him from serving in the military he responded by saying, “I had other priorities in the sixties than military service.”    And yet today he wants us to listen to him pontificate on how best to protect our nation?  He shot his friend in the face for goodness sakes.  Too bad for his hunting buddies that he got those deferments because the military might have helped him with his aim.

And let’s not forget about his co-workers and family members.  When someone manges to pull Scooter Libby out from under the bus, be sure to ask him what he thinks about his former boss.   And then there’s his daughter, the lesbian.  His own daughter is in a same sex relationship but Dick won’t stand up against his party’s stance on gay marriage.   So in addition to shooting his friends in the face and pushing employees under the bus,  he also eats his young.  Now that, my friend, is one  hell of a big bitch.

Hey Dick.  Stick a cork in it you good for nothing jackass.   You and George were elected with the narrowest of margins and you never looked back.  Eight years later an overwhelming majority put Obama in office and as far as I am concerned, he has the green-light to put this country back on track.   If you don’t like it, you can kiss my ass, because if I had to choose between liberating Iraq from Saddam or liberating us from you, there would be one more Hussein in the world and one less Cheney.  Given the opportunity, I would have stuffed you down that hole in the ground with Saddam and sealed the door shut.

I mean it.  Really.

  3. HAHA! love this blog!What a total asshole cheney is.. While “dick” is saying how President Obama is making us less safe,.. will anyone forget that our country was attacked while cheney and bush were in office! Can anyone forget the look on that asshole bushie’s face in that school room while he was reading that stupid ass story when he heard that we had been attacked and then just sat there like a retarded deer in the headlights??? Thank God and Greyhound they’re GONE!!!! P.S. does anyone know where rummy and, the devil himself, carl rove, are?? those pricks ran for it. They should all be prosecuted.

  4. Helen: We are 100% together on our politics.You are a terrific writer. Just watch the name calling. You might end up sounding like that jackass Bill O’Reilly.

  5. I love this blog. I’d like to have it delivered to my reader or mailbox or something but I don’t see a way to do that. Would you educate me or consider adding that feature. But don’t ask me how to do it.

    Keep on blogging!

  6. There is a old saying, “Keep on Keeping on”. I enjoy reading your thoughts. Keep up the good work, and “God Bless America”.

  7. lol i absolutely love yours posts…you say things some of us dare not too…love you guys!!

  8. Werner,

    How do I contact you on your think positive blogsite? Do I need to join the tumblr (?) group first?

    Still no passport card in sight. It’s okay if we don’t visit Montreal, we can just relax and see the NH/Vermont/Maine area or head back to Boston sooner before our LOOONG flights back to Honolulu.

    Just love when we get back to our home. Nothing is better than one’s own bed and pillows. Just hope the daughter home from college doesn’t throw a party while we are gone…..

    Poolman, interesting posts with JWH III. Kind of reminds me of James – intelligence, experience, but with more anger. Glad he stopped the name calling and the discourses are now civil though in disagreement.

    His insistence on using “Bama” is okay. I’ll go with “Ush”, “Heney”, and “Alin”.

  9. flutter: Cause what goes around comes around. The pendulum WILL swing the other way. We need to stay vigilant.

    Besides, I don’t think cancer just goes away when you “pay it no attention.”

  10. Obama is in the White House, Democrats have the house and the senate….why are we even wasting time talking about Republicans?

    The best thing to do when you want something to go away is to pay it no attention.

    just sayin’

  11. It’s time that someone told Tricky Dick #2 that he is no longer the acting pResident of the U.S. I think you did the best job of telling him so far.

    I would like to correct one small item in your post. These worms were never elected. They were installed both times against the wishes of We The People. Election fraud, Katherine Harris, Jeb Bush and a corrupt U.S. Supreme Court installed those thugs the first time and bald faced election fraud kept them there.

    After 8 years of their reign of terror the main question that remains is who are they still blackmailing with the info they collected from their telephone tapping, email intercepting games.

    George Bush and Dick Cheney are two of the most disgusting excuses for human beings to ever occupy the oval office. Both should be arrested and turned over to the World Court for prosecution for war crimes and other crimes against humanity.

    The same might be said for those members of Congress who are too cowardly to bring these criminals to justice & who voted to allow these jerks to destroy this country from the inside out.

    It almost makes one wish for the days of the Old West where they would have been tried, convicted and hanged on the spot!

  12. Another wonderful blog!

    thanks

    ——
    A small point perhaps, but wouldn’t dick be a bastard, and Liz a …?

  13. Of course I’m not saying he gave them licenses, just illustrating his willingness to do so and his lack of vigilance when it comes to terror. I do respect the office of the President and I wish him all the luck in the world, which he will need. Bama is more out of antagonizing people here. You need to back up your facts Pool, I don’t give too much respect to people who are supported by terrorist regimes either. Muammar Qadaffi, leader of Libya (where terrorists have been funded and harbored for years) has spoken out about his support for BAMA. Why do you think that is, he knows Obama’s tough talk about terrorism and support for Isreal are nothing more than means to election. Why don’t the Marines you know agree with him? If war in Iraq is a result of profit minded officials, why then didn’t they do this in 90, when we had the support of the entire world and your boy, Vice President Mr. Honorable Richard Cheney was the secretary of defense?

  14. Beth, yes I have posted comments there also. It is just that John entered this room and slammed the door. I just came back in to upright the lamp.

  15. You two do know that Margaret and Helen have posted two other posts since this one, right??

    I’m just saying…
    :-)

  16. John, you are all over the map with these comments. Let’s try to keep focused and stick to the issues presented here.
    First, I think (yes, my opinon) Cheney has a guilty conscience and is trying to rewrite his legacy. I also think (again, my opinion) he fears prosecution. And yes, you can argue compensation packages from here to eternity. Bottom line – It makes him money.
    Second, I think Iraq was a war of opportunity and I feel civilians in charge abused our military for personal gain. They removed men in charge of the military who were not “on board”. “Yes men”, if you will. Those Generals who raised any objections were reassigned. Their opinions and expertise ignored. I should not have to remind you how many of our young and brave citizens have sacrificed their lives for our “crusade”. Our democracy building or nation building effort, if you will. I think it was a poorly planned war and we sent our best soldiers over there (again and again) with little and insufficient preparation and no true regard for their safety. And even before we finished what we started in Afganistan. A diversion of resources and focus. A bad idea by civilians in charge (my opinion).
    I am well aware of our ties and obligations to Israel. I am well aware of their enemies on all fronts that want them destroyed.
    I also know we put Saddam in power to begin with. I don’t have an issue with his demise, at all. He was not a good person. His regime, however, did keep Iran in it’s place. That balance has been destroyed.
    Jesse Ventura served as a navy SEAL and is a hero (my opinion). In your OPINION he’s nutbag. Please provide evidence of his nutbagginess.
    The topic of this post is Dick Cheney. We address other people in other posts. This one post is not to be a complete airing of the populace in politics. “We people” as you seem to want to categorize us, do post and discuss other topics. “Bama”, as you refer to our president, deserves to be given the respect of his position. This slur alone shows your disrespect. I guess you are no longer in service of this country to not address the commander in chief by his true name. If you are (or were) truly a marine, John, you know these things. All the marines I know may not agree with him, but they respect his authority. They also tell me “once a marine, always a marine.”
    And if you are going to quote “Bama”, please provide the reference and not just opinion and heresay. Are you insinuating that is was our president who issued driver’s licenses to the terrorists involved in 9/11? That is absurd.
    If you want to discuss Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and other cronies, that is not the topic of this post. Please consider the topic at hand and provide your evidence to support your convictions and rants.
    The balls in your court, sir.

  17. Am I going to die soon? Geez, I hope not.

  18. I like you Sara!

  19. Sara, engage please. Takes a lot of moxie to write something so clever, I imagine you are a great debater as well?

  20. Mr Hodge, I understand Susan Boyle is free next Thursday to sing at your funeral, sir. :-)

  21. In regard to those terrorists who have birth certificates like you and I Poolman. Bama says “its the right idea to give 12m illegal aliens a drivers license. Did you know that 13 of the 19 terrorists who attacked the trade centers initiated this operation by obtaining a Driver’s license?
    Also, to insuiate that the Vice President knew about 9/11 specifically and did nothing is absurd, he is not the only one sitting on those briefings which means others knew of the impending attack as well, where are they on this blog?

  22. Poolman, are you speculating on Mr. Cheney’s motivation now? Suspecting that he is trying to clear his conscience before he dies? Thats a good theory pal, but thats all it is, theory. Also you should take a look at executive compensation packages and options which you may not even understand. So he sent us to war to make money, is that what you truly believe? Yes, I agree that WMD was perhaps misguided and I also believe that we liberated Iraq because of a much larger picture than anyone on here may fathom. I will give some which I received from a more reliable source than any of these little links. That is we (US) took out a hostile regime that did in fact aid in terrorist organizations and provided a safe haven for them to operate. The US also took out a threat who was making Isreal very nervous, don’t ignore their political clout Poolman.
    Also, Generals have their motivations as well and there are plenty who don’t get air time who are proponents of our tactics. Ventura is a nutbag with his own agenda, please don’t disregard that.
    But on a larger note, is this what you people want to use time discussing, going round and round about former Vice President Cheney? Why don’t you use the same passion to address things like Bama saying that he voted against the war? Interesting claim since he was not yet in the Senate at the time of the vote on the Iraq war isn’t it?

  23. I love it!

  24. Mr. Hoge,

    These ladies have been very popular for almost a year now – featured in newspapers, magazines and TV shows along the way. They were even named to the Top 50 Women in Technology by Fast Company Magazine. Several like you have come and gone. We will survive your drive-by as well. In case you haven’t noticed, they have already posted twice since this one and most of the gang has moved on… maybe you can too… move on that is.

    Good luck to you.

    With Love,

    Another Proud “Liberal Scum”

    PS. As we say in Helen and Margaretville. Kiss my 67 year old ass!

  25. John, you stated: “Oh you mean like how he covered his tracks with all that Halliburton $? Don’t you think that if there were any truth to those allegations the liberal media would have crusified him? They didn’t because there was nothing to get.”

    Re: Cheney still profiting from Halliburton:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/09/26/politics/main575356.shtml

  26. Poolman, it’s on sir.

  27. Mr. Hogue III,

    Both sides can learn to use good etiquette when presenting their arguments. Even though the results at the end of the day will not be changed, it at least opens up the possibility of understanding instead of condemning.

    I thank you for your latest post. That was a class act post, especially compared to how you first came in blazing with both barrels firing insults.

    Thank you also for serving our country.

    Sally

  28. Jon Stewart always is on top of it:

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=228988&title=Dick-(Uncut)

  29. Pelosi will have to defend herself.
    Obama has stalled the closing of Guantanamo and hasn’t rescinded our new “rights” to use torture, it’s true. But I guess he now has more insight then he did prior to being president. But he is the man now, so we should give him our support. He got the vote.

  30. John, Yes Mr. Cheney does have money, power, and influence, and certainly does not need anymore of that. But when you are closer to death than birth, which of those will matter? Which of those things will comfort him, as he’s lying awake at night? Which will benefit him in the after-life?
    If you think Mr. Cheney is truly concerned with our country’s well being, then he should apologize for not having kept 9/11 from happening during his watch. He should admit he dropped the ball. We (and yes I was one who voted Bush/Cheney in 2000) relied on them to protect us. They ignored the warnings that have been proven existed and were overlooked. Do you deny those as fact, also? Do you think they are all a “liberal conspiracy”? What about the fabricated WMDs in Iraq? Iraq was on the agenda before 9/11. Those are now known facts. Another “liberal fabrication”?
    All he is doing now is trying to justify his actions since 9/11. He is not trying to help our country when he speaks out. These are scare tactics. Intended to solicit fear and paranoia. Yes, terrorism is real and there are people out there whose only goal is to harm us. We have some of those on our own soil whose skin, religion, and birth certificates don’t differ much from you or I.
    And what about his Halliburton shares and profits? Weren’t they benefiting from the military machine all along? Even to this day? Doesn’t it benefit him still to keep our war machine going? Where did he amass his wealth, power, and influence?
    And how do you feel about those who have spoken out in contrast to Mr. Cheney? What do you think of Jesse Ventura’s comments? General Patraeus? Colin Powell?
    These men actually served our country. I don’t know if you have the ability to look at any of this objectively. But there it is.

  31. Look, I know I have come in here abruptly and harsh.
    I sincerely don’t want to create a menace on your blog and will be leaving soon. I just want to offer some real world experience that I have because I believe it to be very important. I am from the school of thought that our intelligence community is doing a fine job. I believe this because I have taken part in it and also understand that while some events took place outside the scope of good judgement, that does not mean that our operations should cease. I hear no talk on this blog about our current President obtaining the authority to continue the same techinques, House Speaker Pelosi’s involvement, and the haste in which a decision was made to close Gitmo with no thought of ramifications. Lets open it up a little.

  32. Frank, how are you sir?

  33. Honolulu Silly,

    You aren’t interested in understanding first hand what is the topic of debate? Why am I not surprised? My aim is not to “pound my chest”, but rather to enlighten those of you who think we can reason with terrorists. Let me assure you, we can’t, given the opportunity, men under my control would have rather cut your head off over even look at you.

  34. John…you don’t get out much, do you?

  35. And troll, sexual dysfunction, mentally ill, and lack of toilet training are not stupid and immature.
    Donna, you are a hypocrite. I believe my observations are of interest to you because you continue to respond and give in to my desire to joust on this post. Your class is showing. Also, I think you mean redacted, however, that was my experience and I just gave you a small slice of reality, scary huh? Go hug a tree you liberal slob.

  36. Namaste, wise Sally.

  37. Donna, if this big time honored military clandestine hero expert wants to vent, let him. If he wants to pound his chest and show his medals, let him.

    We don’t have to watch though, right?

    And I don’t believe I have to respond to his attacks.

    Namaste to all, I really mean it.

  38. well, thanks but I don’t care to provide personal information. But why don’t you go ahead and post an unredacted version of your letter?

    Actually, your responses aren’t “scathing.” They’re stupid and immature. Which is why they lack credibility. I don’t speak for anyone else but when someone posts things like “liberal scum” or
    “bleeding hearted pigs” or thinks it’s appropriate to reference someone’s weight, he/she has no credibility with me because he/she never progressed beyond a 6 year old making crank phone calls. There are many people who post here who have differing points of view but they manage to be courteous and respectful of others. Since you are unwilling to do so, I’m not sure why you believe your observations would be of any interest or value.

  39. Oh, in response to Donna. I would be more than happy to mail/email, whatever medium you prefer, a letter of commendation that I received down in Guantanamo Bay. Not only did I work in what is being described as a clandestine camp I was honored by the entire military body down there and would be happy to forward any documentation in order to lend credibility to my scathing responses.

  40. Hey Sandy, would you like to add something or just interject thoughtless responses?

  41. No Poolman, Mr. Cheney has no motivation, no race to win, no friends to make, he is just concerned about the direction of our nation. CYA?
    Oh you mean like how he covered his tracks with all that Halliburton $? Don’t you think that if there were any truth to those allegations the liberal media would have crusified him? They didn’t because there was nothing to get. I mean, what do you think his motivation really is here? $, power, influence, he has that already. He just wants to scare everyone huh? Until you understand the magnitude of hate from the Arab world you should keep your mouth shut.

  42. Poolman, eloquently put I must admit. I appreciate your response and am truly sorry for my strong words if I offended you. You seem to have an open mind. Who I don’t care if I offend are those on the left who spew their own brand of hatred and ignorance only to call the right hate mongers. I only ask that they understand facts, FACTS and not feelings before they disseminate diarrhea of the mouth.

  43. Donna, if you only knew what you speak. No, I was in Cuba, I witnessed a detainee drain his hemroid blood into a cup that he then threw on a young American Soldier which enteerd his mouth. That is just one instance of the violence I saw. Please don’t question my integrity. I am not a Marine who would dishonor others by lying about my service. Shame on you.

  44. Sandy–you’re right. And doubtless, the troll has as much experience with Cuba as my 8 year old niece does. What a complete buffoon (and fraud).

  45. All of Cheney’s speaking out is just because he is in CYA mode. He doesn’t give a damn about helping us or protecting us, its all about him…

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_cheney_interrogations

  46. I’m one who thinks the Cheney should have followed tradition and shut up, but since he is talking, heh, I like it! Go Dick!

    Funny I never thought I would say that…

    But I’m not the only one who thinks that:

    http://edition.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/21/cheney.poll/

    Maybe he should have talked more while in office.

  47. JWH III wrote: “You apathetic fools. Take it from someone who worked hand and hand with some of your little friends in Cuba. None of you have any clue what you discuss so passionately. You liberals will never get it. I pray for Red vs. Blue states so we can eradicate this liberal sickness from our race!”
    I pray for the United States of America, John. Red and Blue, White and Black, and all the shades and colors in between. The diversity is what makes this nation great. If you fought for this country, as you insinuate, then Thank You! We are truly greatful for your service! God Bless You, I pray. I thank God for those like you! You fought for OUR freedom, liberty, and right to be who we are. Diverse. And with the right to free speech. Don’t now take away from that great sacrifice that you have made by spewing hate and vile.
    I am moderate, not liberal, so you seem to have blinders on. We have some here that are definitely right wing and some definitely left wing. Others are moderates.
    I don’t walk in a room and spout insults and pound my chest, as you have here. There are plenty out there with your view and opinions. Many believe the answer is to shove your “expertise” and opinion down the throats of others. I don’t like to be force-fed. I am open to a REAL discussion and without insult. If you can’t control your anger or hate, then please don’t read anything that will antagonize you. Your health and well-being are more important. What was your motivation for coming into this parlor in the first place?

  48. Donna, to their own self they are true. Don’t waste your time.

  49. Why would he insist on retaining this authority?
    Because it’s necessary in certain applications!
    I was in Cuba with terrorist shitbirds, were any of you? The intelligence community has been on track since 9/11, thats why we have not had an attack people. Hello, no attacks, hello.

  50. Do any of you fools know that Bama still retains the power to initiate and continue water-boarding and/or other unconventional means of interrogation?

  51. Ditto.

  52. It’s so nice to be validated. The mentally ill can be so predictable.

  53. Donna, please respond with more specificity and we can go from there. And what are you blathering about anyway….trolls and toilets..yuck!

  54. Helen Philpot, you are the kind of Liberal Scum that makes me sick. You are probably on some kind of Government assistance too huh and fat and live in filth and have no class which is obvious from your post I might add. Cheney is gone, move on, focus on your golden boy. He is running a great admin so far, tax cheats, House speaker Pelosi can’t get her story right and how come I don’t see anything on these posts discussing her involvement in what you all think are such definitive war crimes? I hear transparency a lot from you bleeding hearted pigs, you mean like the 820b. stimulus package that was pushed through in the dead of night. You all cried when 700b was allocated under W but when 820 additional I hear nothing. You are all part of the unit and don’t even know it.

  55. While I do not believe in feeding trolls, I think it’s appropriate to talk about them. I really wonder at the psychological problems that would cause someone to go onto a blog and insult people? Now, I have absolutely no desire to go to, say, Conservatives4Palin and insult the people who post there. Certainly, I disagree with them on a number of issues but it wouldn’t occur to me to do so–any more than it would occur to me to call someone on the phone, say something obnoxious, and hang up. Certainly, trolls are emotionally the equivalent of a 6 year old. But it has to be more pathological than that. What say you–sexual dysfunction? Toilet trained too early or not at all? Mommy didn’t show any affection?

  56. Hey Auntie Jean, how come the Brits had to come show the A-Rabs how to obtain the abundant sources of oil from beneath their dirty feet if they are so great? Why can’t the Arab states exercise some civility in regard to one another? Why are we always babysitting them? Oh, and most of those accomplishments occured after the fall of the Western Roman Empire and lets not forget how much influence had already spread throughout that region due to Roman innovation.

  57. You apathetic fools. Take it from someone who worked hand and hand with some of your little friends in Cuba. None of you have any clue what you discuss so passionately. You liberals will never get it. I pray for Red vs. Blue states so we can eradicate this liberal sickness from our race!

  69. Hi gang,

    We are once again waiting for a new post from Helen. Since we are starting to get to the bickering stage, I thought it was time for another of my history lessons about Islam and the Moslem people. It could either mellow some of you out or lull the rest of you into a stupor. And of course, there is always the scroll option.

    While Medieval Europe was bogged down in the Middle Ages for 500 (that’s FIVE HUNDRED) YEARS in the grip of Roman Catholic Church control; between 628 and 1058 the Arab Moslems made enormous strides in all areas of their endeavors.

    After the Moslems invaded and conquered parts of peaceful Hindu India, along with the usual spoils of war they brought back orange trees and spread them throughout southern Europe, especially Spain. Cotton was introduced into Europe from India by the Arabs. Muslin cotton and damask linen from Damascus are two from their rich fabric heritage. To grow cotton, canals and extensive irrigation systems were devised to bring the usually arid desert lands into productivity.

    A fascinating bit of innovation was another import (stolen?) from India. The Vedic religion of the Hindus invented and then developed ‘fables’ as a means of teaching moral values. The Moslems brought this type of stories back from India and they eventually became incorporated into Western lore.

    The Caliph Harun al-Rashid (789-809), a contemporary of Charlemagne, proposed a Suez Canal. His idea simmered for a thousand years until the French, with some financial backing from the English, finally completed building it in 1869. The construction of that canal took ten years.

    The windmill was in use in Moslem countries long before it first appeared in Europe in the twelfth century. The Moslems beat Marco Polo to China by 425 years. The technique for making paper was brought from China, making possible the manufacture of books. Paper had been in use in China since 105. By 794, books were common in Baghdad. They did not appear in Germany until 1228 and in England until 1309.

    The technology of tempered steel was brought from India to Persia. The Arabs took it from Persia and made it into the celebrated ‘Damascus’ blades and later into Toledo steel. Other Moslem Arab incursions into China brought back gunpowder, the compass and playing cards, first to the Middle East and eventually, Europe. Another ingenious first was the use of carrier pigeons.

    From about 700 on, the Islamic world experienced a virtual Renaissance similar to that of the Italian during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries in Europe. They made astonishing advances in science and mathematics. ARABIC NUMERALS and zeros used in astronomy were brought from Hindu India in 662. The Arabic word,’safir’, meaning, ‘empty’ became the English word, ‘cipher’. In the hands of Latin scholars, ‘safir’ translated into ‘zephyrum’, in turn shortened into ‘zero’ by the Italians. The Moslems also imported the decimal system from India, which of course, ultimately spread to Europe.

    The Arabs are credited with developing algebra. (That is a strike against them right there when I think of the years of high school and college algebra I sat through. I did fine in those classes but whole days in my life since have gone by without having to solve a single quadratic equation!) As a matter of fact, algebra was literally OUTLAWED in Europe for over two hundred years. (Right on!)

    ‘Algebra’ is from the Arabic words, ‘al-jabr’, that translates ‘restitution, ‘completion’ or ‘adjustment’. They also came up with tables in trigonometry and other higher mathematics. During this time their astronomers automatically assumed from their calculations that the earth was round!!!

    The Moslems very nearly invented the science of chemistry. As was most of Medieval learning in this field, it was tied into alchemy and the occult. Jabir ibn Hayyan (702-765) well known in Europe as Gebir, was the most famous. Because of his work in alchemy he came up with the concept of the scientific experimental method five hundred years before Roger Bacon.

    Ali al-Masuda compiled a thirty-volume encyclopedia. As an historian, he compared favorably to Pliny and Herodotus. This native of Baghdad postulated a theory of evolution; mineral to plant to animal to man. Of course, this did not set well with fundamentalist Moslems and he spent the last ten years of his life in Cairo in exile where he died in 956.

    Because of Mohammed’s strict abhorrence of idolatry, no depiction of human or animal forms was allowed in art or sculpture. As a result, the Moslems developed beautifully intricate geometric designs. The Moors occupied Spain for 756 (that’s SEVEN HUNDRED-FIFTY-SIX) years and built the magnificent Alhambra in Granada (c.1248) and the Alcazar at Seville (c.1181). Both were constructed as fortresses as well as magnificent palaces.

    A Persian architect built the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Began in 1631, it took twenty-two years and twenty-two thousand workmen in forced labor to complete. The Mughal (Mogul) emperor, Shāh Jāhan, commissioned this exquisite example of Moslem architecture as a tribute to his beloved wife, Arjumand Banū Begum, also known as Mumtaz Mahal, (‘Chosen One of the Palace’.) She died in childbirth after giving her husband 14 children in 18 years!!!

    Most cultures and religions develop as a result of geography and climate. And as with most cultures and religions there are always a large number of smart and capable people along with a few fanatics.

    I have said this before, but it bears repeating:
    The moral of this story is: If you find that you have an adversary, learn all you can about him. Get to know him. You may find that he has some admirable qualities that could be cultivated into a mutually advantageous friendship. If not, and he remains an antagonist, then you know better than to under or over-estimate his capabilities. And… if either you or your opponent throws down the gauntlet, neither should be surprised if and when it is picked up.

    Aloha!

  70. Oh Jean! Can I imagine Helen on Fox with O’Reilly or Hannity?

    YES! Of course, first question out of their mouths would be, “What kind of a person would call Sarah Palin a bitch?”

    One with eyes wide open and the sense of knowing right from wrong.

    I’d rather see her on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart!

  71. Sister Bernadette? Your appointment is here. Yes. His mother. She looks upset. Should I send her in or tell her you are busy?

  72. Hi Gang,

    Isn’t it great that the local TV has found Helen!!! I certainly hope that the national media will pick up on her. I would even break down and watch Fox! Can you just imagine Helen taking on O’Reilly, Hannity, et al? Not that they would invite her if they did their homework. They would know that she could make mince-meat outta ‘em.

    Aloha!

    Auntie Jean

  73. Just gobsmacking brilliant, Helen! I love your wit, and your spot-on perplexity. Whenever I see Cheney’s sneering, snarky, lip-curling evilness, I want to cry. Why are children dying in third world countries while his black heart keeps on ticking? And why are people listening to him?

    I cannot believe this man wields any sort of power, despite being so off in all the very special ways you mentioned. His utter lack of charisma, logic and world-view is staggering. I’m certain he smells of WD-40 and mothballs, he’s horrible. I can’t stand that his name is still being bandied about … go away Cheney … away …

  74. UAW:

    I agree with the concept of civil unions and marriages being on the same footing, marriages differing only in that they are performed in a religious context and civil unions not. But then we get into a tight spot with all those straight couples that opted for the justice of the peace (or the local equivalent) rather than the church wedding…. would this be a marriage because of mixed genders, or would they get to call it marriage because they are of mixed gender, but a couple of the same gender would not.

    This is the tricky thing about equality… it has to be applied without condition, without exception.

    Anyway, the cat’s out of the bag already. Many people don’t believe in mixed (race) marriages… so they don’t have to participate. If you don’t believe in same-sex marriage… marry someone of the opposite sex. It really is that simple. It’s as simple as ‘do unto others’ really.

    Keith in NM

  75. Frances, I hope Helen wanted to be “found”, otherwise …. Well think about it.

  76. Thanks, Greytdog… I love getting company over there!

  77. Ellen – love your comments about Morning pages – so right! A necessary but sometimes very annoying task. . .

  78. Isn’t Cheney that dirty old uncle who did something obscene to you – very quickly – then had a drink with your parents? He may be the Joseph Goebbels of our time. He definitely fills the air with propaganda.
    And exactly why do we listen to him? He should only be seen on tv during his trial for betraying the country.

  79. ImaginistaΔ Great Blog – love the pix! And the ones with the cats making jokes. . . ROFL!!!

  80. Francis – that is so cool! What station? Do you think there is a link to view the video for those of us in other parts of the country?

  81. CONGRATULATIONS HELEN!!!!!

    Just saw you on the News…They have FINALLY found you!!!! Local TV today….CNN tomorrow!!!

    Hello Oprah!!! :-) :-) :-)
    Go, Helen, Go!!!!!

  82. I think I love you!

  84. Paragraphs are your friend.

  85. An excerpt from an article online in re gay marriage (UAW avert your eyes, it’s from HuffPo)

    “I believe the fact that an atheist, who doesn’t believe in God at all, is allowed to enter into the holy land of marriage while a gay Christian is not, shows that this law is arbitrary. Are we to believe that anyone who doesn’t live their life according to the King James Bible isn’t protected by the same laws that protect those who do? Using the same argument that I’ve seen on the 700 Club, that would mean that Jewish, Hindu, or Muslim weddings are also null and void.
    I believe that to deny this right to the gay population is to say to them, “this god is not your god and he doesn’t love you.” There isn’t one person who is against gay marriage that can give me a reason why it shouldn’t be legal without bringing God or their religion into it.”

  86. Speaking of churches refusing to marry people. . .friends of mine (both lifelong church members but no longer members of an organized denomination) wanted to get married in a church – mostly for their parents’ sake. So they went and talked to a couple of places – the ministers were all for it – with provisions. My friends were well prepared for dealing with the provisions IF said provisions were reasonable. One church not only wanted them to be re-baptized but attend marriage counseling to make sure they were a “good fit” – this couple had been together for over 15 years, I think they were a good fit already – PLUS $1500 to rent the sanctuary. okay that’s a no-go. They ended up at an Episcopalian church where the rector was quite nice – and the only proviso was attendance at the church for a period of several weeks and two meetings with the rector to discuss the service which would be high church Anglican (to please the bride’s father) with some leeway for personalization. They could bring in their own musicians, etc. . . so they did that because they really liked the historical chapel. . . ONE week before the wedding, at the last meeting with the rector (and after paying deposits and coordinating everything) they were informed that they had “fulfilled” all the provisions and could now meet with the church’s wedding planner – at $250 an hour, 8 hours minimum charge. WTF??? They already had a wedding planner!!! but oh no. . .it was really all about the money for the church. . . so they ended up having the wedding at a local park overlooking a beautiful lake (and keeping their fingers crossed that the rain would stay away)and the wedding officiated by none other than my wundermom. . .the caterers and florist scrambled like crazy to adjust, the wedding planner had to rustle up tents and such. . .and the wedding invitations had to be redone and then HAND DELIVERED locally and all out of town guests rerouted. . . what a mess. . . It had nothing to do with conforming to faith or church membership or any value system and everything to do with money in the till for the churches… And the happy couple has remained a good fit for an additional 10 years now. . .

  87. I have said this before but it bears repeating. As it stands now my partner and I already can have a marriage or union recognized by a church – I have attended ceremonies at Unitarian, Unity, plus a couple of the more liberal protestant churches – but it is the “state” who refuses to recognize a legal contract between gay couples equal to that which is available to het people. Ironic, don’t you think, since the whole argument against gay marriage is because it supposedly offends God?

    And that tired old canard about how gay people will bug churches who won’t have anything to do with them to perform a marriage ceremony is beyond stupid. There is absolutely no basis for that straw man argument because churches already exercize the right to refuse to marry people who don’t conform to their faith – the Catholic and Mormon churches being the ones that immediately come to mind. So stop with that bogus talking point already, please.

  88. Sherri….
    “It’s an even sadder day when the Supreme Court votes to discriminate against a minority of citizens.

    Courts are supposed to protect all citizens and make sure all people are treated equally under the law.”

  91. Sherri….
    I’m glad that you(and Keith) admit that polygamy is illegal….overlooked in some areas(kind of like drug laws)……but still illegal…..
    A month ago or something you mentioned marriage giving kinship and civil unions not…
    question?????If two sisters get married and latter divorced are the two brother-in-laws still brother-in-laws?????? If there were children they would both still be uncles but that deals with offspring….not the marriage itself…..so where does kinship come from???
    Jessee V said he’s for gay marriage…I’ve said I’m for civil unions…make civil unions have the same legalities as marriage but do not require the churches to perform the ceremony….I still think that “fanatics” on the GLTV side would try to sue the churches if they refused to perform the ceremony(the same “fanatics” that went into a church and disrupted the service….

  92. At least run spell check on your posts!

  93. Werner,

    To quote Jimi Hendrix -

    Knowledge speaks
    But wisdom listens.

  94. One I like to share,
    a bit of wisdom never hurt anyone yet, did it?

    Wisdom vs. Knowledge

    Knowledge is, to know a Tomato is a fruit,
    Wisdom is, not putting it in a fruit salad……

    ….heard from a colleague.

  95. Actually, I think it is okay to refer to a ship as a boat. My Grandfather and my Father were both in the Navy and always called the ships they were on “boats”. So ease up, Greytdog.

  96. To THE troll, just remeber:
    You’re never alone with schizophrenia!

  97. Yikes….Troll droppings everywhere!

  98. Hi.everyone I am in okc not much luck with oldest sister. Friday I will be having lunch with my brother maybe I will try a new approach.

    They are a tough bunch.

    I am glad to see you are all well

    Take care

  99. Hi Gang, Raji and Greytdog,

    Raji, a while back I responded to a comment of yours but the computer ate it. It’s out there somewhere in cyberspace. I don’t remember now what all was in it, but I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you. If it should turn up one of these days, let me know! I have never claimed to be a computer whiz.

    We have been out and about all day today to the ‘Big Cities’ of Kapaa and Lihue. Up and down the main drag of Kapaa are, to name a few, a Seventh Day Adventist Church, the First Hawaiian Church, a Morman Church, an Episcopal Church, a Kapaa Missionary Church and a Buddhist Hongwanji Mission.

    Like most churches, the Hongwanji Mission has a bulletin board out in front with a different message every week.

    Greytdog, along the lines of your comment (5/27, 6:55P) the message on the Hongwanji Mission board today is this:

    “The Buddha says,’ The world is a reflection of one’s own mind.’”

    I like that.

    Aloha!

    You are the product of anal intercourse

    Ju Ju Ju Juuuulieeeeeeeeeee Julieeeeeee

  101. I don’t know, but if you push on it hard enough the channel changes on the TV.

  102. It’s not a poodle cut. It’s not. Now quit pulling my hair!!!!

  103. Will a $20 do or do I need to go to the bank?

  104. Mrs. Turk. the difference between a ship and a boat is about the size of the asshole named Greytdog.

    How is Sister Bernadette?

  105. And did I mention that Jesse thinks that EVERYONE should get civil unions, and churches would grant the sacred institution of marriage?

    Goddammit. I want Jesse Ventura back as Gov. BAD. Except he won’t take the job.

  106. Waaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! I want Jesse back as our governor. He got us light rail, called Norm Coleman a d-bag… we’d have two senators and EVERYTHING!!!!

  107. Ohhhhhhh SNAP, Helen! I think Dick just got told!

  108. Size.

  109. What is the difference between a boat and a ship?

  110. Sherri, in re to Sotomayor, read this –
    http://tinyurl.com/r4xx6v

    IMO, and only my opinion, any one who has to make a decision – be it legal, medical, etc – does so from several points of view, not a singular one. That Sotomayor readily acknowledges how personal experience does have impact on judicial decisions is a completely honest answer. Anyone who says otherwise is lying through their teeth. Anyone who claims total impartiality is either a total incompetent like Alberto Gonzales or a raving lunatic like Michelle Bachmann – and I never ever thought I’d say this, but given those two, I’ll take incompetence over insanity any day.

  111. It’s not a boat, it’s a ship. Probably the USS Texas docked at La Porte TX

  112. Can anyone tell me which boat the photo of Margaret & Helen was taken on??

  113. It’s interesting that Sotomayor was nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY by H. W. Bush in 1991 AND was considered as a SCOTUS nominee by George W. in ’05, but now the Republicans are unabashedly against her.

    Well, of course they are — she’s Palin’s polar opposite.

  114. Thank you Jean, Greytdog, Donna, Kristi, and all other supporters and activists for equality!

    Keith, I haven’t heard that NM is close to legalizing marriage for gay couples…that’s terrific news! NH and Washington DC are also on the cusp. Many say NY is, too, but I don’t think it will pass this year. I will celebrate with and for you and your marine when you’re finally able to marry!

    UAW, Keith provided a great response to your polygamy comments. Having been a resident of Colorado for many years, I have to chime in and say that although polygamy is illegal, it is in fact openly practiced in MANY states and both lawmakers and law enforcement turn a blind eye and a deaf ear.

    Evangelical and fundamental Christian churches also contributed millions of dollars and tens of thousands of votes to Prop 8 in California. Keith, you’re right…we may talk “separation of church and state” in this country, but we do NOT practice it!

  115. I too have been wondering why we didn’t hear a peep out of this idiot for 8 years and now we can’t shut him up!

  116. I could’t have said to better myself. I’m sending this to all my Republican friends :-)
    MORE PLEASE

  117. I don’t think Warren Buffet wants him in Omaha….. Ross Perot might like to have him in Dallas though!

    Keith in NM

  118. Why are people even putting a microphone in front of a man who (let’s face it) ran one of the worst, most dangerous administration in US history? Why should we want to hear his opinion on ANYTHING? Please, please, someone send him back to that bunker in Omaha.

  119. UAW:

    Yes there are laws against polygamy… but.

    Texas is home to one of the larger encampments of polygamists….. remember recent events when all the children were taken by the State? Southern Utah and Northern Arizona are full of towns that seem to cater to polygamists……. try a search for Colorado City, Arizona/Hildale, Utah. I’ve driven through Colorado City/Hildale (they stradle the state line) several times enroute to visit Mormon relatives in St. George, Utah….. beautiful country by the way.

    And for the record, my great-grandparents on my father’s side were Morman pioneers in southern Colorado. So I’m not entirely ignorant when it comes to Mormons. As for me, I was raised Southern Baptist, which explains my distaste for organized religion these days!

    Yes, there are laws against this, but most often heads are turned and they live their lives as if there were no law against polygamy. They suffer little ill-effect. And since they can’t legally marry all their wives, the father on many birth certificates is ‘unknown’ making state aid easily obtainable.

    However, until recent years there were laws on the books against homosexual activity. As such one could legally be barred from housing, jobs and such as being a criminal element. It’s not been that long since section 21.06 of the Texas State Penal Code was declared unconstitutional… September of 2006, actually.

    I’m now 52… a lot has changed in the last 35 years…. we move on as a country towards bigger and better futures, even given the debasement heaped upon us the last eight years.

    Keith in NM

  120. My sister is gay….big as a tank…God love her. :-)

  121. No, Kristi–it’s not nearly soon enough. But who would have thought even a few years ago that Iowa would recognize gay marriage? I choose to see the glass as half-full and hope/work for it to become truly full.

  122. My brother is gay…has been with his partner for almost 20 years…their marriage is better then mine…our lives are the same….we work hard…we pay taxes….but they don’t have the benefits that my husband and I do…how is that fair???? Let’s just make all of this RIGHT.

    I think we are headed in that direction…not soon enough.

  123. Sherri and Keith–Ted Olson (Bush’s solicitor general) has just announced that he will be working with David Boies to deal with the California Supreme Court’s decision via the federal court system. You will not find a higher powered pair of lawyers; in fact, they were on the opposite sides of Bush v. Gore. And NOBODY is more respected by conservatives than Olson (his wife was killed in one of the planes on 9/11). Mr. Olson’s public statements about it being time to end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation are phenomenal.

  124. James,

    My nephew’s orders have changed. He is now being deployed to Qandahar, Afghanistan. I’m so afraid for him and all of those who are there or are going. Please keep him in your thoughts. Please keep them ALL in your thoughts.

    My landlord is a Korean War vet. He built a flag pole and keeps the American flag flying proudly in the middle of our courtyard. I shared with him my nephew’s orders. He looked me straight in the eye and told me that this is a rich man’s war and a poor man’s fight. I’ve never heard it put so eloquently.

    I hope all is well with you and the rest of the M&H gang!

    Godspeed to those who are far from home!

    Oceangypsi

  125. I think Helen is a man…and UAW is a woman.

  126. UAW, please refer to Keith’s post on May 26th 5:40 as those were his words not mine. I’m aware of the law.

    I was expressing sympathy for his situation as I do for your’s. My thoughts are always with you and your wife.

  127. James…
    I was going through the posts and I know it’s late but Thanks

  128. Raji…
    It’s against the law to have more than one wife….being a Mormon doesn’t give them different rights…every state in the US has a law against polygamy…thought you should know

  129. Raji: Ever hear of Solomon? Methinks the California Supreme Court split the baby

    Good one, Maven !!!

  130. Whirled, now we know why Dick has come out of his closet. He knows what’s coming down the pike as more of this information becomes available. Talk about CYA.

    Bush: God Wants to “Erase” Mid-East Enemies “Before a New Age Begins”

    In 2003 while lobbying leaders to put together the Coalition of the Willing, President Bush spoke to France’s President Jacques Chirac. Bush wove a story about how the Biblical creatures Gog and Magog were at work in the Middle East and how they must be defeated.

    Suddenly this all makes sense.

    “Look, I’ve seen the video. You’ve shown the video. The sprinkling of the water. Big deal. They said what was your psychological state. I was laughing at it. I was willing to prove and ready to prove that this was a joke and I was wrong. It was horrific. It was instantaneous and look I felt the effects for two days. I had chest pains. I told my wife, look I have two little kids– we prayed. I said dear god help me. I had chest pains I was so stressed out by this.”

  133. Hi Maven,

    Here’s a great hammer for ya. Look up your local League of Women Voters and join! There were many women in it that I never knew their party affiliation or candidate preferences. We studied the ISSUES! The pros and cons of national AND local problems. I was a member in both Massachusetts and California. There is strength in numbers!!!!!

    Example:

    Some 40 years ago we tried like hell for YEARS to get mass transit going in the Los Angeles area. The engineering had been been done to put high speed trains in the median of the freeways, with stations and parking at the on/off ramps. Alleviate traffic and smog. But you know how people love to drive their cars to and from work, usually alone. Still do. This was way before environmental issues came up.

    Once, we couldn’t get anyone to research the ‘con’ of the mass transit issue since our consensus was ‘pro’, so I was drafted to do the ‘con’. Shit! I did too good a job and the ‘con’ was passed at the local and district levels. Fortunately, tho, it was defeated at the state level.

    But……..when it went to the voters in a proposition, it was voted down. Shit again.
    But you keep trying. Sooner or later the public wakes up. Usually, later.

    Aloha!

  134. God Bless you Helen for your insight.

    Dry Drunk is the perfect explanation for what “W” was. I wrote a piece on this back in January and someone posted a link to a great article written back in 2003.

    My question is WTF were we doing all those years, never seeing the signs and noticing that he was leading the country down a path to his own 12 Step Program.

    Δ

  136. Uh, Greytdog,

    Remember slavery? When it was written into the original CONSTITUTION that slaves were something like 4/5ths of a person? (This is off the top of my head.) Remember how long it took to get Women’s Suffrage and then much later, Civil Rights? Remember eight l – o – n – g,
    l – o – n – g years of Bush, Inc?

    I am an old broad and know what an upward struggle it is for decent reforms to actually take hold. I have been politically active for more years than I care to tell, especially in the League of Women Voters starting in 1962. (On the board, researching and writing up presentations.) When there are powerful forces in play, we have to be realistic and keep plodding along until eventually, yes, EVENTUALLY the message gets hammered home.

    But I’m not about to give up!!!

    Aloha!

  137. Note: Norm Coleman lost the MN senate election to Al Franken, but in a move more bold than the Bush SCOTUS grab, Coleman and the MN GOP and the RNC have managed to deny the voters of MN their right to representation – and plan to continue to hold the voters of MN hostage until such time the voters acquiesce to Coleman’s demands to be seated as their Senator.

  138. In case anyone missed this momentous press release:

    “Senator Norm Coleman today released the following statement in response to President Obama’s nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court:

    “When debating judges, I was firm that I would use the same standard to evaluate judges under a Democrat President as I would a Republican President. Are they intellectually competent, do they have a record of integrity, and most importantly, are they committed to following the Constitution rather than creating new law and policy. When I am re-elected, I intend to review Judge Sotomayor’s record using this process. Certainly, the nomination of a Hispanic woman to the nation’s highest court is something all American’s should applaud.”

  141. Late to the party – I was away for the holiday weekend. But wow! Helen bats the Dick right out of the park! All last week I kept muttering to myself that it was long past time for the Cheney monster to crawl back into his crypt and have a nice big cup of STFU. And then Helen goes and expands on the idea in her adorable and inimitable way. Damn, I love me some Helen!

  142. Keith, your words were well spoken. Best of luck to you and your partner.

    “The vote in California to pass this idiocy was bought and paid for by the Morman Church. Yes, they can have as many wives as they want, children on welfare, but I can’t have my Marine? In time I will. The good guys do win, eventually. That’s just the way the world works.”

    Jean and Greytdog, what I find even more confusing is that the CA Supreme Court upheld Prop 8 but allowed the previous (18,000) marriages to be legit???

  143. JuneauJoe: In a much earlier comment, I stated that I feared we wouldnot re-earn respect from the world if we did not investigate the former administration’s policies re torture. Despite Obama’s global reception so far, I still feel that way. I agree with you: A complete investigation is in order. I will only question the expense after we surpass three-times the blow-job cost.

  144. Helen, your post mirrors my sentiments toward Cheney. Thanks for the nervy words; I’d’ve been too chicken to say it quite the way you did.

    Cheney still believes that Americans are idiots (and, based on his elections, why wouldn’t he?).

    2. Liz is NOT cheney’s gay daughter……………she is married to a man & they have 3 or 4 kids. MAry is the lesbian and she also has had a kid ( artificial insemination I think) has a same sex partner…and steers clear of the family!
    Even tho Repubs don;t do facts………it is important to get them straight, should you be in a position to help push a moderate along the right path.

  146. Hi gang,

    Yep. Greytdog called it. “Let the games begin!” with the donnybrook over the Supreme Court Justice nominee.

    From what little I know and am learning about the lady, it seems to me that Sonia Sotomayor is eminently qualified for the job. Obama has once again demonstrated his wisdom and good judgment in this choice. I have faith is those qualities he has.

    In addition, he exhibited political brilliance by appealing to two HUGE demographics for the Democrats in the next election two years from now and again in four years.

    Naturally there are still a few male chauvanistic old fossils roaming around the halls of Congress that will dust off their tired old rhetoric. They are the ones who fervently believe that a woman’s place is in the home, barefoot and pregnant. Actually, their egos are very much intimidated by strong, intelligent women and have a compulsion to put them down whenever they can. If I remember correctly, in such cases Freud postulated something about early ‘improper potty training’.

    Ah well, I have a hunch that wiser heads will prevail and Sotomayor will be confirmed.

    Aloha!

    Jean

  147. Sherri & Keith – I’m just as confused as Jean – none of this makes sense to me – but then again, discrimination of any ilk makes no sense to me. I remain totally flabbergasted that people who claim to be American and claim to uphold so-called American values truly believe it is okay to discriminate against fellow humans. . . omigod! It makes my head reel (and no, despite some folks contention, I am not the runner up to Linda Blair in The Exorcist – she did a 360, I only can do a 180). But when a member of Congress puts forth the idea that a SCOTUS nominee may be unduly influenced by her gender and/or race (without equating anything similar to the white males on the court),and have that idea seen as legitimate, then I guess I am more sorrowed than shocked. But this day I have indeed written my representatives and senators in Congress, I have written the White House, I have written to that idiot Senator who spewed his fear-ridden racism, and I, for one, will not shut up and go quietly into the night. I don’t particularly like the word “eventually” – it smacks of “try” without having to do really accomplish anything. Eventually is a long time coming – and we’re out of time.

  148. Hi Sherrie and Keith,

    Let me gt this straight. The CA Supreme Court OK’d same sex marriage. Then along came Prop. 8 to ban it. Now the Supreme Court upholds Prop. 8????? Whose confused here, me or them?

    Hang in there. We are still working on it and will get equality – eventually.

    Aloha!

    Auntie Jean

  149. Jazzydee:

    Please don’t shoot Dick… there’s not enough toilet paper in North America to deal with the fallout!

    Sherri:

    I appreciate your sentiment and conviction….. I’m a gay American. What baffles me is that we’re supposed to have separation of church and state. It’s the CHURCH that has said marriage is between a man and a woman. In the eyes of the state it’s simply a contract between two (hopefully) informed individuals. It has nothing to do with the downfall of religion…. they’re doing fine on their own without our help!

    I’m not stressing over today’s ruling in California… the tide has already turned…. we’ve already won as far as I’m concerned. And once New Mexico follows suit (and we’ve become one of the more progressive states in the west) I hope to marry my life partner of five years…. who proudly served our country in the Marines durning the first Gulf War and is still dealing with the PTSD, but making great progress.

    The vote in California to pass this idiocy was bought and paid for by the Morman Church. Yes, they can have as many wives as they want, children on welfare, but I can’t have my Marine? In time I will. The good guys do win, eventually. That’s just the way the world works. But I do appreciate you!

    Keith in New Mexico

  150. Great blog post. Just started reading your blog but you got some great content and layout!

    Btw, I just stumbled and submitted your blog to Viralogy.com. Hope it brings you a lot of new readers!

  151. Thanks! My sentiments exactly.

  152. Here’s a banned video of an Ireland interview of Bush in 2006. He does the Coulter schtick about letting him finish talking. Rather funny.

    Although it is walk down memory lane and frustrating to hear, it is also an uplifting experience. For, through it all, just remember that he is no longer our President. He’s back in Texas and watching sports on tv.

  153. It’s a sad day in America when citizens are allowed to vote on whether or not the majority gets to discriminate against the minority.

    It’s an even sadder day when the Supreme Court votes to discriminate against a minority of citizens.

    Courts are supposed to protect all citizens and make sure all people are treated equally under the law. Today, the California State Supreme Court voted to uphold Prop 8, which means same-sex couples are banned from civil marriage in CA.

    We should be shocked, angered, and shamed. We should also be more determined than ever to stand fearlessly and actively for equality for all citizens.

    I hope everyone reading this will protest Prop 8 by taking action — just do one thing in the next 48 hours for marriage equality for same-sex couples. Write a letter to your editor, your Senator, your Assemblymember, a family member, a local news channel, make a donation to the Courage Campaign or to Freedom to Marry…..do something! Minorities have NEVER gained equality and civil rights without the help and support of the majority!

  154. Mageen: Excellent point about Rove. I’ve often thought that myself. The Dick may be evil and crazy — but Rove is the guy who tells him what to say, gives him the best PR strategy to accomplish his evil designs. Now if that ain’t the ultimate evil, I don’t know what is!

  155. Greytdog: your post about tenure for Cheney at Liberty U. just reminded me that this “school” evicted the campus Democratic Club on the grounds that the Democratic party et al. did not mesh with the standards, rules, theology of Liberty U. But, rejoice! The campus Republican Club remains because it does mesh with Liberty U.’s whatzits. Tells you all you ever wanted to know about that place! Some “Liberty”!

  156. Me, again! This posting is just toooo good!

    Point of interest: what about Karl Rove? He was not elected to office. He was a hired gunslinger and gets even higher readings on my vile-o-meter. Since he was a private citizen rather than an elected person, he has far less protection of law, procedure, policy, protocol and Presidential tradition. The deck of cards could start falling with him.

  157. Can we all give Helen a big HELL YEAH! I tell ya, if killing somebody wasn’t a moral issue or one of the Ten Commandments, I’d shoot Dick Cheney in the ass with a shotgun and watch him explode! What a piece of crap!

    Helen, I love ya! Keep on keeping on…

  158. You’ve done it again! You are saying what so many have been thinking and even saying for a long time!

    This guy is desparately trying to save himself from a court appearance in the Hague! Or Spain! I doubt that what he is doing is going to work.

    Now he gets his daughter on the hustings to defend him!

    My God!

    Keep on keeping on!

  159. Great description, Greytdog, but you might want hip waders as this muck is going to get deep. Sotomayer’s nomination by Clinton June 25,1997 had a secret hold put on it and it took over a year.
    This was give the MSM something besides Dick to play with.

  160. OMG Helen. I love, love, LOVE you….

    Can’t WAIT for your next post. I copy/paste each one to my family members (that are still on dial-up and don’t visit websites). You always speak the truth & you get three cheers from us in Oregon.

  161. Wishing all a good week. I am up to my arm pits in crap to do, so I will sign off until next weekend.

    v: Before Bush, I would have said your ideas were not possible. Cheney: He is evil and I could see him trying to pull off what you mention. (Daughter Liz would be a willing accomplice.) What a scary way to start a work week.

    Have a good week all.

  162. SCOTUS: Supreme Court of the United States

    “popcorn, rain slickers” – popcorn for munching through the B-grade movie theatrics (all that wailing, gnashing of teeth, swooning) and rain slickers to protect the viewing audience from the mud and muck. . . you might want to put on a pair of Wellies too. . . in case the muck gets too southern swampy. . .

    Werner, you should know that American politics is very similar to the Roman Gladiator contests – the more blood letting the better, the audience hope for a fatal but deserving wound, the roar of approval as the loser is vanquished, the double-dealing skulking through the tunnels, the whispers from the shadows. . . the plotting of a suitable demise for the one who ends up standing. . .twists & turns. . .who needs to pay to see Angels & Demons when it’s enacted in front of us courtesy of MSNBC, FOX, WaPo, WSJ, and let us not forget, the Sick Dick from Wyoming.

  163. Greytdog
    ?????
    pls translate for all non US posters here

  164. Obama nominates Sotomayor for SCOTUS. Get the popcorn, rain slickers, and let the games begin! The mudslinging starts in 1…2…3….

  165. Dick Cheney is old and he’s done a lot of things.
    W. asked him to find a vice president. Dick chose himself.
    He was/is a member of PNAC.
    His computers were monitering FAA and NORAD computers on 911. Everything went as planned. PTECH and PROMIS software.
    What really is bugging him now is that even with waterboarding he couldn’t get a connection confession IRAQ-911.
    So what is he planning now? Another pearl harbor/911 type event that will again shock the masses to obedience and he will be able to say, “I told you so!”

  166. A very interesting essay on torture & the recent “friendly” waterboarding of Mancow:

  167. [...] Life is a bitch and so is Dick Cheney Posted on May 25, 2009 by Val Helen and Margaret at it again:  Life is a bitch and so is Dick Cheney  [...]

  168. Hi Susan in CT, Grandma Katie and Greytdog,

    Susan, no, the stationary bike is at the PT facility. You gave me an idea tho. I always have a book or two in the works. Next time I’ll take one. Even ten minutes of reading would relieve the boredom.

    Grandma Katie and Greytdog, I don’t know much about either PT or deep tissue massage. No experience with them. I think I may be getting some deep tissue massage in conjunction with the PT. The young man is very sweet and gentle. But he does work on my left thigh and calf with massage. He finds knots of muscles where I didn’t know muscles existed!

    I’ll admit I do like the Ultra-sound and Electric Stimulation. Ummmmm, delicious! Very soothing and of course PASSIVE! I don’t have to do anything but just lay there and relax.

    I am adverse to plain old exercises. Always have been. But I am doing them faithfully twice a day at home. Snarl.

    In early June, I should be starting epidural steroid shots smack into my spine. Oh, yeah! That should be lots of fun. Still, it beats spinal surgery that even the surgeon admits is not always successful. As long as I can function – more or less – I’ll adjust accordingly.

    Aloha!

    Auntie Jean

  169. Oh…and let’s remember on Memorial Day that not only over 4,000 Americans have died and tens of thousands have been terribly wounded, but over 1 million Iraqis have died and over 5 million displaced because Cheney and Bush started a war we had no business starting.

  170. Cheney doesn’t give a rat’s ass about our country. He is all about having power, abusing power, and justifying power. He played Bush and everyone else in the Bush administration…constantly going around them so he could do whatever he damned well pleased. He had memos written to legally “justify” whatever he wanted to do. FINALLY people are waking up from the 9/11-induced coma we’ve been in and realizing how Cheney duped us all those years. It’s time for Dick to face the music. Prison, baby!

  171. i thought you were a bit too nice to dick. i can not think of anyone i am waiting to die more than him. he is evil. pure evil.

  172. Grandma Katie, you know that not all massage therapists are top notch, and that deep tissue massage is not always indicated – such is the same for physical therapists (and doctors, and veterinarians, etc)… that said, though, it might be a good idea Jean to see if you can get a prescription for massage therapy. . .especially if it follows a PT session. Adjunctive and complementary therapies like massage/PT often work better together than going solo. And Grandma katie, it’s always nice when you post – we get worried when you don’t!

    And to Gramma & Grampa Rock – hoping things are going well through the VA. Take care of OUR wounded warrior. . . lots of love!

  173. jean – loved y our post about exercise!! I think they all apply to me. Thanks for youiremarks about me and therapy. You might try – if you8r DR approves o- some deep tissue massage. It might help with the hip muscles.
    After the rehab hospital I was in, I have not much faith in physical theraperists. That was supposed to be one of the best rehab hospitals in the area. Have a roommate n ow who spppent time in same place and she has same comments that I do/
    Hope you all have had a good weekend.

  174. Wonder what Cheney does for Memorial Day? Think he’s verbally bashing any more real veterans? Here’s a good read.

    “A week ago Cheney – whose idea of a foxhole is Fox News…”

    Read more: “GOP led by toy soldiers – Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh – insulting heroes like Powell” – http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/05/25/2009-05-25_gop_led_by_2_toy_soldiers_insulting_powell.html#ixzz0GYjcb1Gn&A

  175. Jean, I imagine the stationary bike isn’t at home. I got one, and bribe myself into riding it by watching movie-DVDs. It works!

  176. MJM (5/24/09 at 8:13pm), that was a good link to Col. Lawrence Wilderson’s interview. The Colonel was Colin Powell’s Chief of Staff during the Bush years, but resigned. The man had a conscience and a soul.

    Hurray Susan Boyle! Britain has a LOT of talent, and a great sense of humor. Not as “screwball-y” as Werner’s – but I think (fear) I am catching on Werner!

    Cheney really really scares me. He is a mastermind in manipulation and deception. And he is still out there…..

    Rupert Murdoch is another one that really scares me. His Fox News and media empire are immense. He is another mastermind.

    Two lightning bolts zapped in unison at the black hearts of both of these men would be true justice. The stench of sulphur will hopefully be blown away quickly.

  177. Hmm Cheney as college professor – let’s see, he’d probably have tenure by now at Liberty University

  178. Poolman
    ….or become a college prof, we’d be much better off today…..

    SORRY TO CONTRADICT, BUT THAT IS THE ONE THING THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN WORSE….. ;-)

    uups sorry caps

  179. Ankle biter (uups meant Greytdog)

    Have to share this story from my Bavarian homeland.

    In Bavaria a famous dog is the Dackel (Teckel, hotdog dog) So one of our more famous Comedians (Karl Valentine, turn of the last Century) told this story:

    One day I go for a walk with my Dackel, along comes a “Preiss” (Prussian, anyone from Germany, north of Bavaria) and my Dackel bites him in the ankle, well, what you guess, the Preiss starts screaming and shouting about being bitten by my Dackel in the ankle…..

    So I said to him: What the heck are you complainging about being bitten in the ankle?

    You can’t resonably expect from such a small dog that it byts you in the neck?

    That’s Bavarian humor from the homeland, now you know where some of my stranger moments originate from……..

  180. UAW if Cheney did go to Canada or become a college prof, we’d be much better off today. As it is I think we can pin a lot of the deaths of our brave military men and women on his power plays and self-promoting agenda.

  181. And to put this day in another perspective:

  182. ‘Sides – he’s a cute little troll, and he’s OURS! :)

  183. Okay being the ankle biter that I am (woof), I just wanted to say that I actually respect UAW – I don’t agree with 99.9% of his postings, but I do respect his willingness to “put it out there” knowing we’re all gonna jump his s**t. But then again, while I do believe UAW is very sincere in his statements, I also think (this is an opinion because I have no verifiable proof) that he’s a bit of a contrarian too. . . if we say white, he’ll call out black. . .just cuz. And that’s fine too – keeps us on our toes and IMO, keeps us from sinking too much into that muck called “group-think”. I would rather deal with a contrarian than with a zombie.

  184. UWA
    don’t you get tired to blant out any and all stupid articles you find without checking?

    You get blasted again and again with facts for 80% of the BS you post, so why not check yourself and save yourself some humiliation?

    I thought even you might have soem selfrespect?

    Won’t get too much respect from us if you don’t finally change your ways! And I don’t mean your convictions, their are all yours, just stopp posting Bull and use facts, same as James and the Poolman do, they are both on your side, but they manage to post 80 / 90 % facts, that we have to accept and respect, even if we don’t like the thrist…..

  185. UAW: The anit-Kerry stuff is much like Waterboarding is not torture crap! A person can say, it is not torture or Kerry is a coward until they do it.

    The real story of Kerry was when he was in the water, shielding an injured soldier from sniper fire and then getting the fellow on the boat, while everyone is trying to duck the bullets.

    Kerry, the biggest guy, was the last one out of the water.

    UAW: Is waterboarding torture?

    Rush likes to make things up and it seems that you do too, UAW!

  186. UAW: 1. Are you a veteran? Just wondering.

    2. Kerry was a hero. I happened to talk to a fellow who was saved by Kerry. He had fallen into the river as the boat they were in was getting away from hostile fire. The fellow was injured. Kerry jumped in the water to save him.

    3. Kerry got shot by the enemy. The same fellow that he saved had information about his getting shot in the behind and it was enemy fire. Big fellow, Kerry, crawling through the grasses and he got an enemy hit.

    It is memorial day and we need to respect that which our military has done.

    Yes, I am a vet.

  187. UAW, and all, here’s a read for the day

    http://tinyurl.com/reatkx

    UAW probably will throw up in his mouth as the article is from HuffPo the bastion of liberal evil online. Here’s the concluding paragraph prior to the roll call of the war dead of the current war(s):
    “But scroll through the names below, the Americans killed in Iraq alone. Read their names and ask yourself if Cheney’s two sentences, if our Memorial Day sales, if our cookouts, if our three-day weekends show sufficient respect to our war dead and to the families who have lost loved ones forever. Read their names and ask if we can really congratulate ourselves for “policies that have kept our people safe since 9/11.”

  188. Helen… I still think your a college student working for a grade and not 80+…
    you sure give Dick hell for his deferments but…

    It was 1959 when Dick Cheney, then a student at Yale University, turned 18 and became eligible for the draft.

    “Eventually, like 16 million other young men of that era, Mr. Cheney sought deferments. By the time he turned 26 in January 1967 and was no longer eligible for the draft, he had asked for and received five deferments, four because he was a student and one for being a new father.” ……”The numbers for US troops deployed to Viet Nam during the same period were quite different; 2,000 in 1961, rising rapidly to 16,500 in 1964.”……

    so if he’d of gone to Canada or became a college prof like Bill Ayers it would be OK…

    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/01/us/2004-campaign-military-service-cheney-s-five-draft-deferments-during-vietnam-era.html%3Fn%3DTop/News/World/Countries%20and%20Territories/Vietnam

    you don’t like bush either but as for him being better….Bush learned to fly and Kerry forgot to duck after throwing a grenade….and got a purple metal for a self-inflicted wound….along with his ticket punched…so I voted for the lesser of two evils….

    the last time I voted for a Dem it was for Carter(the ball-less wonder) and I do have an excuse …I was to young to know better……I did vote for Perot and Anderson though..

    and as for stealing the vote…yea,yea,yea….and the twin towers were really blown up by Israeli commandos and the tooth fairy is going to make everything better….

    and to remind some who the protesters were yelling at………Hey, hey, LBJ! How many boys did you kill today?”

  189. Hi Werner and all,

    I will be quiet again soon. Two more weeks of school and have tons to do, so little time.

    Spain: I believe they have a judge that is taking on the torture issue of a Spanish Citizen. Cheney visiting Spain would make sense.

    I have been checking out the positive site and very impressed.

    I am just lacking in time and then I move back to the lower 48 and living out of backpacks and suitcases. I will soon be a nomad – homeless, but lots of places to go, do and see.

    National Parks of the Wast this summer, that is the plan.

  190. Hi Gang
    FYI Susan Boyle made it into the Finals!

  191. uuups forgot to say:
    I had several “Vikings” in my ancestors!

    And In Bavaria, where I was born, we quarter people for far less than what thye Dick did……

  192. Cheney blood eagled?
    enticing thought…………

  193. On the other hand, perhaps we should all be thankful that Cheney & Co. only emulated Jack Bauer and not the Vikings. . . otherwise we’d have Blood Eagles rather than waterboards

  194. Werner, the museum would have to be about “Liberation Techniques from the Romans Thru the Americans” aka “To Tell the Truth” . . . that would catch Cheney’s fancy. . .

  195. Gretytdog, jsri

    Spain is no longer extreme right, (they DID get rid of Frnaco already in 1975) and while they do prosecute I think Den Haag is a better option (and saver, no hidden facism there), we would need some left wing Europe activists (I do still have some contacts there……..) to put up a fake Museum sign in Front of the courts and than invite the Dick for a free tour……..

    Hmmmm, I think that could just about work…..

  196. The only way we can take care of the Cheney problem is to 1) ensure they don’t breed, 2) perform a Vulcan mindmeld and turn them into happy shining people. Other than those two, the general populace just doesn’t have the interest or inclination to do much else – and besides, what would all those Sunday talking heads do if Cheney suddenly shut up and disappeared?

  197. Greytdog Δ

    Either place could work.
    But it might help to salvage our reputation in the world community if we could take care the Cheney problem ourselves.

  198. I rather like jsri’s idea – although I think the American people have paid a high enough price already for the dick in charge. I suggest that dick and lynn dip into their Halliburton monies and fund their own damn trip. They could even do the grand tour of Europe – I understand that Den Hague, the Netherlands, is quite beautiful this time of year too. . .

  199. I wish him a stroke .. one that paralyzes his vocal chords and hands … death is too good for him

  200. Ladies: – and contributors
    Your blog is right on target but slightly harsh.
    Instead of pillorying Mr. Cheney. I think he has been working very hard lately and deserves a vacation. You might be better served by taking up a collection and sending him on a well earned vacation.
    I would recommend Spain. The weather is nice this time of year and I know they would welcome him with open arms.

  201. I think dick cheney needs to shut the hell up. He had 8 years to talk, but he hid in undisclosed locations when he wasn’t shooting people in the face.

  202. Once again, right on target! Thank you! :)

    And, I agree with the others, who said that those who are claiming waterboarding is NOT torture, let them step up and be waterboarded!

  206. Hi Gang and Helen
    excellent post as ever and it gives me an idea…..and I know it won’t do much, but if we’d plug the action in the right places (Daily show , etc.),(?) well here it comes:

    Send Helens comment:
    “Hey Dick. Stick a cork in it you good for nothing jackass.” Amen to that!
    and add a cork (we all DO drink wine? Or Cidre?)
    and send it to the Dick’s office (maybe include directions on how to recycle corks propperly, I guess he even wouldn’t know THAT! ;-) ), make it a puiblic campaign…..? What ya think?

  207. On this Memorial Day, we need to consider why we went to war. Some wars can be justified some can’t.

    Iraq cannot be justified! As we get more information, we find out that the torture was needed to make a connection between terrorists and Saddam. Bush started office looking for a reason to take out Saddam. I, personally, think it was for oil.

    I just read where Bush and friends had a plan for giving the oil reserves to friends and allies before 9/11.

    When 9/11 happened, war was inevitable to make their pre-existing war desires come true.

    Afghanistan: What a mess today! The war there could have been started and finished had we not gone into Iraq.

    5000 Needless American Deaths: The war in Iraq has caused 5000 soldiers to die. Cheney and Bush should hang their heads for pushing this needless war. (Iraq has lost a lot of people too.)

    War is serious business which results in death and we should not make up facts (or torture) to force an unwarranted war.

    I think we need an Independent Investigation.

  208. I enjoy a daily blog written by a Vietnam veteran about the full-timing RV life he shares with his wife. Today, he wrote a great Memorial Day post that I’d like to share with you. I don’t think he’ll mind if I copy it verbatim, nor do I believe that Helen minds me taking up her space here. You can visit Nick’s blog at http://gypsyjournal.net/blog/ if you’d like.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Memorial Day
    By Nick Russell
    http://gypsyjournal.net/blog/2009/05/25/memorial-day/#comments
    I hope you take a moment today to remember what this holiday is for. To me, it is one of the most sacred days of the year, because I have seen what it is about first hand.
    Memorial Day is not about automobile races, or cooking hotdogs on the grill, or getting a three day weekend, or the inconvenience of the post office being closed when you want to mail a letter.
    It is a day to remember the men and women who have given us the most precious gift of all, our very freedom, and who paid for it with their lives. We forget that too easily in this country. And we need to remember.
    We need to remember that all of those headstones decorated with little American flags in all of those cemeteries across this great land of ours represent somebody’s son, somebody’s brother, somebody’s father. Somebody who put on a uniform for you and for me, and never came home.
    Men like my uncle Charles Saxton, my mother’s younger brother. I never knew him, because he was killed in action on August 7, 1943 while serving with the 9th Infantry Division in North Africa. My uncle was just 25 years old when he died.
    Men like my high school friend Larry Greene. Larry was an absolute goofball who I could always depend on to get me into trouble with some nonsense or other. He died in 1972 when his helicopter was shot out of the sky over Vietnam.
    Men like my buddy Brad Pettit, who slogged through miles of rice paddies and jungle trails with me until we got in a firefight one day and a bullet hit him as he was laying beside me returning fire.
    Men like a new kid who stepped on a mine on his very first day in the field with us. I held his hand and looked in his eyes and tried to tell him it was going to be okay, because I couldn’t look at what was left of his body below the waist. I hope I gave him some comfort in his last minutes, but I can still see his eyes as they went blank, and I am haunted to this day because I never knew his name. That is what this day is about.
    Please remember that right now, as you are reading this with your morning coffee, or during a commercial break in your favorite television show, somebody’s son or daughter, somebody’s brother or sister, somebody’s husband or wife, is in the enemy’s gunsights. Somewhere today or tomorrow or next week, some mother or father or wife will answer a knock on their door and find solemn men in uniform there to deliver the very worst news of all. That is what this day is about.
    Thought for the Day
    “A veteran – whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve – is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to the ‘United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’” (Author unknown)
  209. Perfect symmetry in your summation of Cheney…best I’ve read yet!
  210. Just wondering, on this Memorial Day, since DODT is still military policy, how many of those lying in graves under white markers throughout this country and the world, sacrificed their lives for freedom despite the fact our country hates them, fears them, devalues them, and marginalizes them still? Frank Rich’s article in the NYTimes is a much-needed read
  215. Jean, I like #3 on your list :)
  216. These guys are pretty awesome too!! And fun!
  217. The GOOD news
    Susan Boyle does it again; inspiration just like Margaret and Helen.
  218. Hi gang, Grandma Katie and Whirled Peas,
    I guess we pretty well settled the question of how everyone here feels about Cheney, not that he would care if he knew. But word does get around. Maybe he has heard. Would any of it penetrate? Naw.
    Those of you who know my story understand that for me Memorial Day is a quiet, private time of remembrance and reflection.
    I thought I would give you an update on my adventures in Physical Therapy. Grandma Katie, maybe you can relate. I don’t know if I am getting any better because of all the time and effort I am putting into it, but at least I’m not getting any worse. Is that progress????? I’m an aesthete, not an athlete! One thing I have learned is to REALLY, REALLY, REALLY loathe that damn stationary bike. That’s the longest 10 minutes in the history of mankind.
    A dear sympathetic friend sent me this e mail so I’m sharing it with you. Look, Brudda Whirled Peas!!! I squeezed an e mail into M&H’s teensy-weensy comment box all by myself. Whoopee!!!
    Importance of Walking.
    1. Walking 20 minutes can add to your life. This enables you at 90 years of age to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.
    2. My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he’s 97 years old and we haven’t a clue where the hell he is.
    3. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
    4. The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.
    5. I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I’m doing.
    6. I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven’t lost a pound…apparently you have to actually go there.
    7. Every time I hear the dirty word ‘exercise’, I wash my mouth out with chocolate.
    8. I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.
    9. The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they’ll say, “Well, she looks good doesn’t she.”
    10. If you are going to try cross-countryskiing, start with a small country.
    11. I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years. Just getting over the hill was enough.
    12. We all get heavier as we get older, because there’s a lot more information in our skulls.
    AND 13. Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a Happy Hour.
    By the time I leave, I look just fine.
    You could run this over to your friends……But just e-mail it to them!
    Aloha!
    Auntie Jean
  219. Somewhere in a parallel universe, Dick Cheney is in prison getting waterboarded. And don’t think about what else is happening to him in prison because you know, it’s really icky! Yep, I know – I thought about it for one second and my lips made a smile in spite of the gross thought.
  220. Helen,
    I love you, you old bitch.
  221. WATERBOARDING IS NOT TORTURE! The next idiot that says that should be made to have waterboarding done to them so they can prove it to the world.
    Mancow tried it and says it is torture! Ventura had it done to him and he says it is torture. I like the idea of Cheney and friends getting waterboarded.
    Hanitty promised that he would be waterboarded then chicken shitted out! They are a bunch of cowards. WATERBOARDING IS TORTURE and if you say differently – HAVE IT DONE TO YOU!
    An Independent Investigation needs to take place.
  222. If God were going to give the world an enema he would instruct Cheney to open his mouth. I am 88 and I admire you for doing this. What foul language, you tell it like it is.
  223. It’s painfully obvious, but it bears mentioning to ALL commentators…
    You don’t know “Dick” about anything.
    You’re welcome.
  224. This absolutely rocks! You hit it out of the park once again. Hilarious too.
  225. great link Juneaujoe A Can we send Dick to jail now. If I remember correctly Bush didn’t pardon
    him right.
    Maybe it is about time we see if hannity is up for that water boarding?
    Now that would be some good fox t.v.
  226. A-MEN!! Thank you – you said it way better than I could. One less Cheney, one more Hussein… Amen.
  228. Helen, you are profound. And a profound example of clear thinking and direct speaking. Thanks for being you.
  229. Helen, thanks for a great article and a great blog. I don’t read many blogs, but I am definitely coming back to read this one again. I don’t think I’ve found anything on the web I’ve liked this much since John Cole’s Balloon Juice.
  230. You go girlz!
    Cheney’s going to have to have your feet surgically removed from his rectal cavity!
  231. >>Margaret and Helen, put down the Vodka bottle. It’s messing up your brain.
    Typical winger response. The ladies insult Cheney, this guy responds by insulting the ladies. Can’t argue the point, can you, buddy?
    More power to you, ladies. May you have 60 more years of wonderful friendship and balls-to-the-wall blogging.
  232. I have to say I wuv you. That was wonderful and dead on balls accurate as usual. No pun intended. And I mean it. Really.
  233. For Memorial Day 05/25/2009:
    Haddock of Mass Destruction
    Brain bored and arse numb
    Finally the blades spun and we lifted
    Skimmed the palm trees and popped flares above the Euphrates
    We swooped low over the target truck
    Then landed in its path
    We charged in our Storm Trooper costumes
    Blinding faceless shapes through dirty glass
    With rifle mounted lasers
    We were jumpy
    We were ready
    I dragged the driver from his seat
    Slammed his face into hot tarmac
    Held it there with my suede boot
    Steadied my hands long enough to cuff his
    We searched his packed pick-up
    Boxes stacked four deep five wide
    Emptied in the dust on the roadside
    The first box revealed ice and fish, and the next
    And the next, and the last
    Intelligence had said he was armed and dangerous
    Armed with melting ice and defrosting cod
    No match for our guns, our bombs,
    Our good intentions, our morals
    Our God
    We cut his cuffs, and his wife’s
    And left them to their ruined stock
    I should demand commission
    From the Taliban
    For every recruit I’ve converted to their flock.
  234. AMEN and AMEN!
    You said it!
    The man is pure evil. I wish he would just sit down and shut the hell up. Along with his big mouth daughter who has also been yelling on the TV this week.
    At least Bush has had the sense to keep quiet. Do you think Mama Bar threatened to whip his butt?
    I absolutely DETEST Dick Cheney.
    I also believe that Dick#### Cheney and Rumsfeld plotted this Iraq fiasco years ago and all they had to do was find the right puppet to act as president. Bingo. Enter one GWB. One naive, slightly clueless frat boy who never really succeeded at anything.
    May Cheney rot in hell.
  235. As much as I can’t stand DICK, I think it’s hilarious watching him make the media route blathering at the mouth, and would like to see him keep doing it and keep pissing off people like Colin Powell, so that (a) maybe some of the moderates in the Republican party will grow some balls like Colin and Meghan McCain and stand up to this a-hole, and (b) so that he’ll say SO much that he’ll slip up and say somethign that will come back to haunt him later in a court of law and we can get him convicted of condoning torture. Not “enhanced interrogation techniques,” — TORTURE.
    Here’s what Colin Powell had to say about Cheney this weekend: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/25/us/25talkshows.html?_r=1&ref=politics
    (Take that, DICK, and suck it!)
    And Meghan McCain is just tickling me pink with how hard she is trying to keep the Republican party from becoming the Rush-publican party. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-04-29/arlen-you-let-me-down/
    Great link from Keith Olbermann re Sean Hannity: You, sir, are now unnecessary.
    Can someone please tell Dick Cheney the same?
  238. Mr. Hannity……
    you are now unnecessary.
  239. You would think that Dick-head would just whole up on his ranch in Wyoming but nooooooo!!! I never thought that Bush was the Pres, it was Cheney all along pulling all the strings. The media has to stop giving him a forum and the GOP has to tell him to shut the bleep up.
    Even Bush has the sense to fade into obscurity, one hopes anyway.
    Helen as usual thank you!!!!
  240. Helen, I love you more with every post!
  241. I wish I had that bitch Cheney’s email address because I would definitely email this to him. Cheney has done more harm to this nation over the past fifty years than, quite possibly, any human being ever — dead or alive. His punk ass got deferred FIVE TIMES yet he had NO problem sending other peoples’ kids off to war — and always while managing to make a tidy profit for himself. It’s time for Cheney’s comeuppance and I sincerely hope President Obama comes to his senses and backs a full investigation of the entire Cheney administration — because we all know now that junior wasn’t running anything. If Saddam was fit to be hung for his crimes then Cheney should certainly swing from a rope too. That’s one cell phone video I’d love to see.
    What…No Palin? ;)
    Δ
  246. FYI Cheney has two daughters. The gay one is mostly in hiding these days. Her name is Mary. The one on TV is Liz, a lawyer and bureaucrat. I feel sorry for her–what is the daughter of such a prick to do? The combination of arrogance, cowardice, paranoia, and self-righteousness is amazing.
  247. Greytdog: Cheney taking the fifth: I think he would but hope he is forced into doing it.
    Whirled Peas: Thanks for the videos. It is looking more and more like GW just would sit around twiddling his thumbs, saying ‘get Saddam’ while The Dick and Rummy got to play war games to do his bidding.
    How much time and energy as well as 100 Milion dollars was wasted on Clinton and Lewinsky? This is real and it needs an official forum.
    Independent Investigation I say.
  248. Uncommonsense, we can debate torture all we want over the airwaves – but we can’t show the pictures (a picture says a thousand words. . . ) and our “constitution” is so very fragile that until just recently we couldn’t show returning bodies from the war. . . but now that our focus is on the economy & the stimulus & who won American Idol and who gets to keep her pageant title. . .all’s Right with the world again. . .we can debate, but we will not ever admit to engaging in torture nor will we ever prosecute anyone for their hand in eviscerating the Constitution as well as the moral foundation of this country.
  249. But…
    but…
    but…
    ‘they’ hate US for our freedoms…
    …or maybe not.
  250. I’ve just been musing this morning while the hum of talking heads on hubby’s television debate torture, isn’t it strange, after the fact, the FCC moved to protect our delicate sensibilities from Janet Jackson’s boob. Long established Anglo-Saxon words for body functions and parts, horror of horrors, if any of these vulgarisms sully our public airways, but torture, a crime against humanity, can be debated?
  251. Operation Iraqi Liberation.
    Bush Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neil reveals the clear fact that the Bush White House was determined to invade Iraq long before 9/11.
    Δ
  252. Is it possible that Cheney’s plan all along was to sell America a mercenary army?
  253. I would be very interested in taking the issue of torture, the Cheneys, the role of the CIA, etc., out of the hands of the politicians and enforce the wishes of the American people on this issue and on healthcare, alternative energy, cap and trade, global warming, etc. possibly by organizing a million person + march on Washington this summer. Any suggestions?
    Helen,
    As usual, a superb job!
  254. I believe the money was stolen from the cash register in a bookstore in college station???
  255. Helen- Just when I think I can’t love you anymore than I already do, you give me even more joy. The lastest dick article about a dick brings another huge laugh, smile and sadly a moment to realize yet again how horribly sad but true all this is. I am so grateful to read the truth in print. On this Memorial Day may we all remember the power of our vote and the need to never let down our guard as the right wing criminals are barking at the gates and can’t wait to get back in. Thank you Helen for helping hold them in check!
  256. YOu are so on the target! Someone should shut Cheney’s dirty piehole. Someone please do us all a favor and put him out of his misery.
  257. JuneauJoe – all you’d hear would be “I take the 5th” while outside the courtroom, rotten apple Liz would be expounding and pontificating on her daddy’s innocence and patriotism. . .
  258. Here is an excellent article on single payer health insurance which The Dick also opposes.
    http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/05/23-4
    The travesty of our current ‘for profit’ health system is a disgrace, but Dick sees no problem because he has top of the line care.
    I would like to see Cheney talking to a judge under oath.
  259. As usual, a great laugh in the morning! I just wish I understood why Cheney is doing this….
    Three cheers for Mancow taking the challenge Hannity’s too chicken to take (even after he said he would) and admitting, even if he didn’t want to, it was torture. It’s refreshing to see someone on the other side of the fence telling the truth!
  260. I really think ex vice presidents and presidents should write books and give public university graduation speeches. They should be available if the current administration seeks their help. This is regardless of the political party they represent or their approval rating when they left office. I never thought I would say this, but ex president Bush is doing a real fine job.
  261. Ventura About Dick
  262. We know who took the microscope, Sister. Should I send for them or just call their parents?
  263. Good one Helen! I really think you are Jesse Ventura’s coach – no holds barred and zings galore!
    What is making Dick Cheney come out so much? He must have the ego of a really BIG appendage, or he is taking Viagra by the handful.
    Brings to mind Jon Stewart’s segment “Excuse me, Your Dick is out”. Bwaahaahaaa!
    Does Dick think he can start a revolution? The “us” versus “them”, the ones who still buy the crap from Bush, Cheney, and Co. that Iraq was responsible for 9/11. I wonder how many of them are out there. Poor sheep. Poor undereducated unenlightened sheep.
  264. I just saw this thread posted over at Democratic Underground. Check it out for some truly wonderful political cartoons of the Dicktater.
    http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389×5707724
    It is truly heartening to see that at least some in the print media do not have the wool pulled over their eyes.
  265. Thank you, Helen, for once again calling a spade a spade. Most of the TV toadies seem disinclined to do so, trying to create a “debate” where there is none. A war criminal versus the first fairly-elected US President in eight years … there is simply no comparison.
    Thanks also to Keith upthread for the Conason link. Of course, the fearmonger-in-chief is speaking out. He is trying desperately to distract. From the Conason article:
    [...] Aside from distorting Obama’s rhetoric to fit a false liberal stereotype, the former vice president simply lied about the aims and conduct of the abusive interrogations he approved. “From the beginning of the program,” he claimed, “there was only one focused and all-important purpose. We sought, and we in fact obtained, specific information on terrorist plans.” But we now know that there was certainly at least one other purpose that was of great importance to Cheney: namely, the effort to find (or coerce confessions about) the mythical connection between al-Qaida and the Saddam Hussein dictatorship. Mindful of that damning fact, he barely dared to mention the war in Iraq.[...]
    The fact remains that this zealot was in charge when 9-11 occurred, although the administration had clearly been warned about exactly such an event in advance and deliberately ignored the warnings of Sandy Berger as far back as Dec 2000 in addition to those of the very knowledgeable and able Richard Clarke.
    If I did support “enhanced interrogation techniques” (torture by any other name is still torture) … which I do not under any circumstances … I could consider favoring their use to find out exactly what Cheney knew about 9-11 before it happened … and why. But as most realize (chickenhawk cowards like Cheney and his ilk excepted), torture doesn’t elicit the truth … it just elicits something, anything … to make the torturers stop.
    We would not even be having this manufactured “debate” if those imprisoned and tortured had been of Western European nationalities or of a different religion. Those facts are glaringly evident. If we ourselves do not bring the wrongdoers to account, and so far, this President seems disinclined to do so (I’m giving him a pass so far because he inherited nothing but disaster from Bush-Cheney, but …), there will be other mechanisms that do. And, if we do leave the “dirty work” to others, that will simply put the seal on our national shame and expose forever that while we preach the rule of law, we do not practice it.
  266. Yeah, you go girl! Dick Cheney is a sad, scary old man. I like to see you face to face with him anytime. My bets are on you. I have a feeling he will get his due.
  267. Bravo Helen!! I too would like to stick Dick in a hole where the sun don’t shine.
  268. Please read and listen…
    iamthewitness.com
  269. The Dick has been saying that we are now less safe than when he was running the country. If that’s true, shouldn’t he be at his ‘undisclosed location’, cowering under the bed and wetting his pants?
  270. Nailed it again Helen, unfortunately there is little to laugh about this time. Cheney continues on his “FEAR” marathon aided by the media. What the …., he must think his only hope is to pollute the potential jury pool. That can’t be good for his heart, I hope he doesn’t cheat justice.
  271. no shit!….
  272. GOD!! I love you. You missed one Cheney spawn, however. Mary, the one who walks around behind him and squawks to everybody who’ll give her a microphone to spout how right and wonderful and wronged by Obama he is. Neither one of them wants to see the veep’s legacy besmirched, as if we could do any better what Cheney’s already done himself so well. Can’t rewrite history, Cheneys. No matter how smug and uppity you are in front of the cameras.
  273. Again you hit the proverbial nail on the head. Shame it wasn’t a hammer on Cheney’s head–both of them.
    That stupid chicken shit is trying to talk his way out of being indicted. Dumb ass doesn’t realize he’s just shoveling dirt on his own grave. We should be so fortunate that the whole lot of ‘em get prosecuted, jailed and faced with their own EIT (TORTURE).
  274. I smell gas…..is the heat on??
  275. Helen, Cheney certainly wasn’t a dry drunk when he shot his friend, I’m willing to bet he isn’t dry now. They had to sober him up before they let the sheriff in after the supposed accident. Just sayin’.
  276. Helen,
    I just found this article on salon.com and wanted to share it….. and coincidentally you had posted this latest entry and they fit together like George and Dick!
    Another round for democracy
    Cheney’s hostile speech only highlighted President Obama’s commitment to American standards of liberty
    By Joe Conason
    and here’s the link to Mr. Conason’s article on salon.com:
    I think you, as well as the rest of your loyal readers will really like this article….. and salon.com too for that matter.
    Again, you rock girl!
    Keith in New Mexico
  277. One of the best.
    You know it’s good when you can’t wait to finish reading it so you can read it again!
  278. I know a couple of honorable men who refused to fight in Viet Nam — one went to prison, and one went to Canada because they opposed that war. Draft-dodgers? I guess some would call them that. But they didn’t stay around in their previously-comfortable lives, enriching themselves while their contemporaries were shipped off to die.
  279. Thank you Helen, LOL. You hit the ugly nail right on it’s ugly head yet again! Your perfect record continues.
    Only one sentiment I don’t share. Wouldn’t want Cheney’s crooked lips anywhere near my ass! I would like to see him kiss his own shit though.
  280. Melissa said “What we need is for responsible media outlets (hahaha) to stop giving him coverage.”
    I think you’re dead-on here. Everybody was treating the two speeches as if they were two sides to an official debate (“…and just moments later, former Vice President Cheney said…..”).
    Someone posted this to another blog: “I sort of wish that Bill Clinton and Al Gore had taken every opportunity available to point out that their successors were running a criminal enterprise out of the White House.” But they didn’t.
  281. “I’d say he’s mastered the art of not smelling his own shit.”
    Now that’s a great line. Charles Manson takes every opportunity to appear on television too…
  282. Helen you are TOO funny!!!!
    Cheney can KISS MY 47 YEAR OLD ASS!!!!! :-)
  283. The GOP lost, but he just can’t give up the control! Let him keep talking…he’ll dig his own grave. I just can’t believe the arrogance, the disregard for the constitution and almost disgust for the American people! I guess we showed him what we can do!
  284. you rock, sister. i really wish cheney would just go the hell away.
  285. Hi bruddah Whirled Peas,
    ‘Mahalo’ (thank you) again for your ‘kokua’ (help) yesterday with the Scientific American link. You are indeedy a ‘kahuna’ (magician).. I am always amazed how you pull off your ‘ho’okalakupua’ (magic) on a regular basis.
    Aloha!
    Sistah Jean
  286. Hi Helen,
    We can always count on you to once again come up with a post that drives home the points with your usual succinct wit. I do disagree about one of them however.
    Let Cheney go ahead and spout off to anyone he can get to listen to him. (Not me!) Hopefully, he will talk himself and some of his buddies right into The Hague. Besides that, he continues to sink the GOP. That should make Obama a shoe-in for four more years in the next election. It is going to take at least eight years to clean up the messes left.
    It is becoming more and more clear who the OTHER unelected president was under Bush, Inc., since Bush himself is remaining ever so quiet. Bush was way to dumb to be the ‘decider’.
    Aloha!
    Jean
  287. Yeah, I can’t believe how much Dick I’m seeing in the media these days. I’ve never liked him, but I liked him much more when he stayed in his bunker at an “undisclosed location.”
    W claimed he was so dedicated to counter terrorism that he gave that responsibility to the number 2 guy, but as usual, W made a lousy decision. Dick had no experience and less interest. He never even had a counter terrorism meeting until after we were attacked.
    And everyone I’ve heard who was waterboarded (voluntarily) says yes, it’s torture. Ventura did it in SERE School as part of his training (to prepare him to endure torture–duh!) The guy who ran the SERE school, been on the doing and receiving end, says it’s torture. Conservatives Hitchens and Mancow didn’t think it was torture so they tried it to “prove” it was no big deal, and they both said, yes, it’s torture. Dick, not a soldier, (but he does play with guns to shoot animals in enclosed places and hits his friend instead), says it’s not torture and advocates its use, even tho all his military advisers say that using it almost guarantees that torture will be used against OUR soldiers. But Dick doesn’t care about them. He only cares about his own “legacy.”
    Never heard of a man more aptly named. What a DICK.
  288. Before, he had power. Now, he has…no power. Ugh. Now he has to promote himself to stay relevant. He won’t ever go away, he’s basically Darth Cheney.
  289. I don’t understand why Cheney keeps saying he and W kept us safe. From my point of view, they were the only administration who allowed us to be attacked.
  290. Isn’t it funny how the same chickenshits who yapped and yapped about Clinton’s reasons for not serving in the military, are nowadays suckers for Dick?
    Keith Olbermann is often an impossible windbag, but he nailed Cheney to the outhouse door with his commentary on Thursday. Everyone should watch it, especially the Dick suckers.
  291. Why is it Cheney Cheney everywhere, a Dick constantly on the air? Gee, think it could be because he’s shopping for a $2M advance on a book deal? Seems he’s been yakking it up with $imon & $chuster where Mary Matalin has an imprint ~ and where Karl Rove got his book deal. . . this has nothing to do with deep seated convictions or concern for the nation, and everything to do to bump up public interest in Cheney in order to gain $$
  292. Do we know they were “dry”?
  293. …make that wish and whim
  294. From what I can tell, Dick Cheney was the most powerful and influential man ever to hold the office of VP. How he used his power & influence is nothing short of shameful. But I don’t understand how it is he is so powerful in the first place? He doesn’t have a stellar career. He must know a lot of dirt on a lot of people who are afraid he’ll write a tell-all if they don’t cow to his his every wish and shim.
    If you listen to the soundbites playing on every news channel, all the Rep. talking heads – Limbaugh, Tom Ridge, McCain, Liz Cheney, etc. – keep calling him the VP. They don’t say the “former VP” — I think the Republicans just can’t face the fact that they are no longer in the White House or in the Senate majority. They think if they just keep talking as if they are in charge, they can still control policies and actions. It’s going to be a l–o–n–g eight years for them!
  295. Ah Helen, you always say it better than myself! I just blogged about the importance of water-boarding Cheney yesterday ( http://www.democraddicts.com). I called him an ass face but bitch is much more fitting.
    Fingers crossed that his next heart attack actually does him in!
    Lots of love ladies, keep it up!
  296. Whwwww! Girl, you need to learn how to say what you really mean!
    You got really close, though:-)
  297. Hey,
    Dick should volunteer to be waterboarded. He should try his own Enhanced Interrogation Techniques on himself, Gonzales, Rove and I would pay to see it. Colter should try waterboarding too
    They would have fun and show the world that it really is no big deal. I think they should do it at least 5 times in 24 hours to prove to the world that it is not torture.
    Rich: Like your idea of Cheney talking. Just keep the cameras rolling whenever he talks. Liz Cheney – She would like a little waterboarding too I bet. She sure talks brave.
    Cheney’s IRAQ WAR has cost 5000 American lives. Cheney’s ideas killed Americans.
    Special Prosecutor – Dick keeps talking and he and friends need to be investigated.
  298. “Too bad for his hunting buddies that he got those deferments because the military might have helped him with his aim.”
    LOL
  299. Helen, I love your blunt truth. The Dick proved he had no gonads of his own with his cowardice during the 60s. He denigrated the service of our military when he was avoiding that service, but now, he claims have been an avid supporter (easy now, since he can’t be called up!). I’d love for him and his fellow chicken-hawks to be required to serve before they can make any more comments about the war – can’t you just imagine him and the Rush in uniform, squealing like pigs when placed in harm’s way?
    I still admire John McCain and his real tradition of service – did you see that his grandson just graduated from Annapolis – the fourth John McCain to do so? But I stand by my disdain for his sell-out prior to elections.
    The Dick should be quiet or be water-boarded. He shouldn’t object, as he says it isn’t torture.
  300. Good Post Helen. I can’t believe we keep giving this guy all this press. He is saying the same things everywhere he goes on this campaign to justify his actions. I guess he believes if you say the same thing over and over and over to enough people, it somehow becomes credible. But alas, I’m sure some are indeed persuaded.
    All his irresponsible accusations asserting that we are less safe now with this new administration and their policies. He keeps referring to 9/11 like it was an unavoidable act of God that put us in the position of “anything goes” to protect ourselves from others. 9/11 was on his watch after all. He won’t admit to that.
    He doesn’t see his failings or actions (or inactions) as having assisted in bringing that act of terror upon us. George was the new kid on the block – Cheney wasn’t. Too busy with his agenda to pay attention, I’m sure. What other explanation can there be for his recent all-out campaign? Fear of prosecution – or guilt, maybe?
    What a terrible human being. I say let him cut his own throat. Let him keep talking, like Rich said: “Give him ‘nuff rope.” Maybe God will smite him on the podium. Now that would be something to see…
  301. J. Nitzel, the lesbian daughter is Mary not Liz who has been on TV recently. Mary has been notably absent!
  302. YOU.GO.GIRL!!!!!!
  303. Love your blog and what you say and how you say it
    Linda
  304. Thanks again Helen for putting into words what I think. Cheney crawled out of his slimey cave to say all of this. More slime. The repugs are saying the same old lines of hate and fear. They are critizing Obama for w hat he is doing. Theycreated the nost of this mess, and are giving absolutely nothing positive for a solution.
    Thanks again for bringing light ontoo this slimey person. BRight light will go a long was towards making slime dry up.
  305. Wonderful Post. But I gotta say, let the SOB keep talking. Obama and the Dems were gonna wuss out and give them two idiots a Nixonian Pass on the krap they foisted on the country. Now that Dick’s stirring the sh!t and keeping it in the national consciousness, somebody somehwere’s gonna finally grow a pair and investigate all this. So i don’t say “shut up dick” but instead, “keep talking, buddy!” Give him ’nuff rope. I wanna see him hang!
  306. Hey Dick, Waterboarding is TORTURE!
    Right wing wingnut Mancow did it for fun and then admited that it is torture and drowning.
  307. I have to go back and read your post again. My mind is still reeling from seeing “Bush” and “good sense” in the same paragraph.
    As always, though, you’re spot on. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that the networks were giving equal billing to the POTUS and Dick the other day.
  308. I would be laughing so!!!!!!If this were not serious stuff. Helen, hats off. You are spot on, as usual. I was wondering when you were going to jum in this debate and well, I am not disappointed. Thanks for your insight.
  309. Helen, you echo my thoughts on Cheney. I wrote a post on my blog about the Cheney’s. If you are interested in reading it, here is the link:
  310. Excellent post and I agree with everything you said!
  311. It’s amazing that Cheney has had more air-time in the last week, than in eight years in the White House. What a frightening, chicken-shit, non-law abiding moron. He, Bush, Palin, Limbaugh, Coulter, et al are fear and hate mongers. Thankfully, most of the American public – including present and former members of the GOP – are starting to see the light.
    “Hey Dick. Stick a cork in it you good for nothing jackass.” Amen to that, sista!
  313. On Cheney’s military deferment(s), this is a pretty good overview.
    Note to the dick: We all had something better to do in the 60s – except politicians you’ve so aptly mimicked decided it would be better for a generation to die for nothing.
  314. Thank goodness age give us a pass to say what we really think. I am 68. Dick C. is one of those old men who say my way is the only way. What I say is gospel. Do not contradict me.
    Our political system is corrupt. How else would these two actually be allowed to spend 8 years in the white house.
    Things have changed. I hope our country sees many changes in the next four years. I predict Obama will be reelected. But my republican friends say he will only be in office 4 years. I hope I am still alive in 4 years to vote again for my President. I voted for Clinton too.
    Love this site. Wish it were mandatory reading for everyone.
  315. From Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America:
    OFFICIAL DoD COUNT OF:
    Troops Killed in Iraq: 4299
    Troops Killed in Afghanistan: 686
    Wounded in Action: 33815
    http://iava.org/
  316. “If you don’t like it, you can kiss my ass, because if I had to choose between liberating Iraq from Saddam or liberating us from you, there would be one more Hussein in the world and one less Cheney.”
    LOL
  317. This op ed is so right on. You have put a lot of my thoughts in writing. I am getting more scared and sick with each day that passes and Cheney continues to spew forth his lies and hatred. Please continue to write for us. And say hello to Margaret in Maine. I love your blog.
  318. You two are my absolute HEROES!!! you make my day every time you post something.
  319. Follows is a link to an article dissecting Cheney’s televised speech this past week, in which he justified his actions after 9/11.
    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/226/story/68643.html
    Sometimes we know we hate what a public person stands for, but it is hard to articulate exactly why. Read this article for help along that line. It is very specific.
    I see today that Cheney is actively pursuing a book deal. Others in punditry have floated the notion that Cheny is scared of future prosecution here and abroad for war crimes. In other words his current spate of TV appearances are not (perhaps) because of convictions as much as because of fear.
    I have read recently a pretty good review and analysis of Cheney’s actions post 9/11 (which link I cannot recover, sorry) which maintains that he was mortified by his failure to prevent that attack and fearful of being killed. Apparently he carried a hazmat suit with him for awhile.
    At any rate his actions are probably pathological and therefore, he won’t shut up as long as he remains afraid. “I think part of this dance is to stay in front of the hangman.” I think Jacqui is right on this. I don’t think he is fronting for Bush, though. I think he is worried about himself.
  320. I just knew you’d have something to say about THE DICK………in 2000 they were APPOINTED by the conservative Supreme Court of Fla where W’s little brother was gov at the time. then they allowed us to be hit on 911 by ignoring the intelligence briefing of Aug 6, 2001 and spent the next 4 years fear, war and hate mongering to get elected in 2004 by the smallest margin in history. The leopards do not change their spots. Cheney and the Republicans are the same fear, war and hate mongers they have always been.
    And, that lesbian daughter, whose sexual persuesion THE DICK hates, is now out on all the TV and radio networks who are stupid enough to have her , saying that the factual papers and the people who wrote them are trying to re-write history. WTF !!!! The Cheney’s are desperately trying to rewrite history to keep THE DICK from sitting in a cell for the rest of his life.
    Same ole, same ole with those people. If you tell the same lies enough times then the ignorant people will believe them…….fortunately we are down to 21% ignorant. Poor foolish, pathetic DICK !!!!!
    As for the fool senator from South Dakota and his fear that the detainees will be dropped off on the corner by his house……..JGA!!! There sure is a lot of stupid going on with the elected official from the Repub party. Maybe they should let the idiot Texas gov ( sorry Helen, you’ll have to move to Maine) secede and then drop the detainees off on his corner. Or when Cheney moves to his house in Dubai to escape a trial and take over the reins of Halliburton, again, we can drop the detainees off with THE DICK.
    Colorado’s Super Max is housing foreign and domestic terrorists……….newsflash: they are still there, no one is afraid of them and they are not opening up ice cream stands on every corner.
    Keep on talking Rush, FAUX news,Palin, Gindal, Gnewtie, Cheney. The more you talk the more ignorant you look. We love it !!!
  321. Well said and funny. Thanks. Dick is talking total nonsense to convince somebody that torture makes sense. Conservative “leaders” are lining up to try their hand at this and it’s turning out to be a real circus. Pass the popcorn.
    The sad thing is that President Obama could end all this horse shit by just letting the Justice Department go through their normal criminal investigations to see if it leads anywhere.
  322. You speak my thoughts – thank you!
    Cheney – the real decider on war policies for Bush. The truth is coming out. Cheney is on scary person.
    I think he needs to talk under oath.
  323. I think he is running it up the flagpole for Bush’s return to the limelight frankly. And I think he decided to be vice-president so he could hold the puppy’s leash.
    As to DWI’s Georgie got 4 that we know of and Daddy bought three of them off. There are internet rumors of a 5th. But basically he is a drunk and I wonder how sober he is since leaving office.
    I watched the movie Frost/Nixon recently and Ron Howard’s interview where he says he did it to remind everyone of Nixon’s abuses of power and that Georgie is doing the same thing.
    They both use that line that if the president does it it is not illegal and you can hear that theme in Cheney’s dance. I think part of this dance is to stay in front of the hangman.
  324. Amen!
    What we need is for responsible media outlets (hahaha) to stop giving him coverage. I read that the BBC covered Obama’s speech this week in full and then cut away from Dick’s speech when they realized he had nothing new to contribute. THAT is the way to deny him continued power.
  325. I just adore your blog and articles. Keep it up. Gives me lots of hope.
  326. God Bless you Helen! I love it that you tell it like it is! Dick Cheney is a good for nothing and a piss poor imitation of a human being, and you nailed him… I’ve been following your blog for quite a while now, and it’s always great. Please keep it and yourself going for a long time, we need more like you!
  327. Good for nothing.
    That says it all.
    This weekend is for remembrance of those who died serving our country. It disgusts me that The Dick doesn’t have the common decency to shut the F up while over 4,000 families are suffering because of his bullying, cowardly actions.
    There’s not an ounce of “human” in that turd.
